Dan Barker says that he used to be a firm believer in the gospel. He was evangelical. He tells of parables and fables whose story is meant to be fictional but the moral tale is what matters. He goes on to highlight that modern day Christians understand the use of metaphors in the Bible that everything should not be taken as pure gospel, but says where do we draw the line between what is real and what is myth?
Following this he states there is no hard evidence for god, that some tales in the bible can be questioned with simple logic. Also religions become secular over time, disagreeing on minor aspects within the larger body of the religion itself.

Dan is an example of how an atheist effectively communicates. He doesn't insult anyone and he seems to speak with empathy to believers. He seems to have a real grasp on how to communicate in a great way.

I am not a theist, but there is one thing, one problem that I refuse to throw out of the windows unsolved, the infinite time regression, there are two possibilities, one, the universe extends infinitely on the past, two, the universe does not exist infinitely on the past, if it's the first one that implicates that there are events infinitely on the past, therefore that means essentially that the universe had to cover in infinite time interval in order to be at our current state, if it's the second, it would mean that the axis of time have an initial discontinuity which represents the moment of it's creation according to our reference frame, as the first one seems to be problematic this implies that there exist a atemporal entity responsible for the origin, now, I'm not saying that this is thing is a god, it could simply be some weird new kind of phycisal structure or object which exists ouside of time

Infinity is not a quantity, it is specifically a lack of quantifiability. You are misusing the term to mean something akin to "perpetual." In reality, there can be no infinities. To be quantifiable is to have a boundary.

What does "on the past" mean?
In other words, guy, the whole physical universe is not static or a finished product but is in constant state of vibration and evolution besides the visible movements

God could end this debate by simply saying "Hello. I am here" to the world. But something that does not exist cannot do that.

If I showed you a cake right now, right in front of you, and you said "I demand an explanation, let the baker appear right now! Otherwise he or she doesn't exist." Maybe the baker does not appear because he or she thinks you are intelligent enough as to "believe" someone made that cake. If, however, you refuse to believe, you are left with a ludicrous feeling of cleverness that says more of your ignorance and arrogance than of any intelligence at all.

Assuming that you are presented with a cake one could assume that because most cakes are made by a baker, which we know based the off of the numerous years of human studies in culinary arts. One who assumes otherwise is objectively incorrect because others can prove to him that it was made by a baker through visual evidence. Not only could one prove that it was made by human hands but I can show him the process and ingredients required to make the cake. Biblical and other religious texts can only prove that the cake exists and not that there was a baker, ingredients to be used by the baker , and a process in which a baker could use to create said cake. The Bible only mentions that there is a physical world being controlled by a God and that the only proof of this are references from people whom interacted with this God. Now let’s equivocate this to science. If a scientist were to claim that aliens were real we would demand evidence as such a circumstance is highly unlikely. It would be rather silly if the scientist told us that the aliens expected us to know about their existence because they expected us to be intelligent enough to figure it out. The burden of proof is on the scientists whom at this point keeps claiming that aliens exist based only off of his visual references. In order to prove the existence of an alien race we would have to base this claim on knowledge we already know, which is what the human mind depends on to come to logical conclusions. I am a non believer mostly because of the fact that out of the numerous religions that have existed in the past and are know considered myths we are expected to believe in a single religion younger than all of them. I generally believe that religion has done more good than harm as it has given some people a purpose in life and has given others a set of morals. Religion has also inspired great architectural and artistic achievements that have transformed human history. However, for how much longer are you willing to believe in the existence of a god despite numerous advances in human knowledge. Will believers reach a point where all biblical stories are simply metaphors that we should be expected to understand.

What could possibly give you the impression that there is an intent behind the universe? Very close to 100% of it seems to be deadly to life of any kind (and is certainly unreachable by our standards)… if the universe was intended for anything, it was probably intended for black holes to exist (I think that was a joke by Stephen Hawking if I’m not mistaken). Also, what would a “coincidental” universe look like to you by comparison? If you’re going to assume that this universe is not a coincidence, surely you have some point of reference (or at least a concept of one).

bro i’m struggling with my faith rn and idk what path i’ll take in my life,my fear is ill go my whole life following these rules and there not even real ,
If you continuously watch videos like this it will of course effect your faith. Also if you want to go down the path of “what if I follow these rules my whole life but it turns out it was for nothing” what if it’s the opposite? What if you become an unbeliever and it turns out to be true? Wouldn’t that be worse? I am a Christian, I’m not sure what your personal beliefs are but whatever you believe in I would recommend you read the Bible/continue to read it, and even use the internet to understand things that at this moment you cannot (be weary of false teachings). Also give a small prayer to God (as sincerely as you can) to reveal himself/show you he’s there/give you a sign in Jesus name. I'm so glad I was raised in Atheist society so I don't have to struggle with something like this in my life. Be smart. Look for evidence. Question everything. Try to go out of your comfort zone. Don't listen to people who claim to be superiors to you and you will find the truth. It's super hard to go let go off something that you believed in your whole life. But truth usually hurts. A lot. But it's the truth. And that's a good thing.

It's really annoying how people can't just accept that some people have their faith and others don't. Do we really need a battlefield? No. We don't.

I can. While its sad, and I don't agree with those ideas, if there is one thing I learned about spreading Christianity is that people don't like to be forced onto your ideas. However, not every religious person is a "fanatic" and even if no participants will change their mind on the pertinent question, there is still room for interesting discussion. There can be beneficial results from intellectual debate other than convincing someone they are wrong and "winning". I also think that there is some chance, however small, that a person might be swayed or adjust their thinking. But that change would rarely be admitted in the middle of heated debate. There is pride at stake, of course. When insults are traded or the discussion becomes derogatory in some way, there is even less chance of either side conceding ground.

I believe that science can't prove God, because God created science and you wouldn't find a creator inside of his own creation. Science explains how the universe works and the reason why it works like that but science wasn't made to explain something that isn't inside of the universe.
God is omnipotent and if not he could be killed.
If God is affected by science like matter, space and time then it would mean that God can be separated into tiny bits because of the law of matter, there would be a time where God doesn't exist according to the law of time, and God wouldn't exist without a space for him to occupy according to the law of space. All this pointing out that he could be killed by his own creations, and would lack to fit the definition of "omnipotent". This isn't true because he is the one that created time space, and matter and these 3 are what makes up science. And that is one of the reasons why I believe in God.

Unrelated scriptures from other rulers have been found speaking of what they construe as jesus. There are even atheists that say jesus existed. They just dont believe he was divine. So that already puts christianity at the top. No other religion has that. Most people in other religions are myths and never existed, according to scholars.
