If someone were born in this generation and claimed to be god, you'd all think he was mentally ill, including religious people. Why should we think any different about what happened in the past?

I never understood why God would get pissed off if people didn't praise him.
Let's say I make an ant farm. The ants seem happy and are running around doing ant stuff. If they don't praise me, I am going to pour a bit of boiling water in to teach them a lesson. That makes me an asshole of epic proportion.

He doesn't get "pissed off" at people because they don't praise him implying that he does it because he is self-centered. At least the Christian God isn't that way. He gets "pissed off" because the people that don't praise him in most cases think they are better than him and want to tell others what to do which leads to people living a life that is not even close to reaching the full potential each person is brought into existence for. I would have never praised a God like the one you describe. God receives praise from people because they are grateful and acknowledge his wisdom in conducting their lives. This obviously involves also understanding the greater purpose he has for us and not all the garbage that most of us have been taught in our homes and society. I am no better than anyone, nor am I the beholder of truth, I just happened to do my research and receive answers. I recommend reading The Bible if you truly want to know the truth. Don't take my words if you don't want to.

the thing betwean your relationship with god and your relationship with the ants is that you come from god and the ants dont come from you. very difficult to understand, absurd logic. now imagine that some cells in you stop working for your whole being, what do you call that? i think cancer.

    • @HakeemKazak
      @HakeemKazak 8 ปีที่แล้ว +292

+rayocks +coconut bliss holy cow so much delusion..you just answered the question and logic yourself..I guess your "god" was so bored in his own little world that after he couldn't figure out whether he was in a simulation himself or if some other greater "god" is watching him play out his godly life, that he decided to create our universe so he could manage beings to follow his rule book.
I'm just going to leave it at that, if you still can't muster the amount of logic required then I invite you to Antarctica as I heard the dwindling populations of religious folk are planning a new colony over there :)

Despite the superficial appearance of wit this remark does not deserve 'top' billing.
Two more points. Firstly, any religion (or irreligion) is just fine with Satan
so long as it doesn't lead to Christ and to salvation. Satan wants humans to be damned just as he is, likewise many evil people want others to be wicked
just as they are, and preferably in like manner (being cliquish as well as
      malicious).
Secondly, one does indeed need God in order to become a believer.
One can't do it by means of tradition, effort, even logic and reason.
No wonder Dawkins can't find Him; besides which he apparently doesn't
want to. (Standing beside and in close comparison with Jesus, every
thought and motive exposed, nobody is going to come off very well.)
Jesus said, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot
see the kingdom of God...........Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born
of water and the Spirit.' And later, 'That which is born of the flesh is flesh,
and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be amazed that I said
to you, "You must be born again" '.
But there certainly is no reason to rejoice for those who have not been born
again. Think of what you are missing and what Christians have (Psalm 16:11):
      'You will make known to me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy;
in Your right hand are pleasures forever'.

Eventually, I will lose it entirely and all that will be left is its affect on others who are still around. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance to use such a gift properly while I still can, in order to leave an impact on those who will still be around once I'm not.

@@magdy_01 I wouldn't say that I have spiritual beliefs; I don't believe in any higher power, objective purpose, destiny, superstition, or anything beyond what there is sufficient evidence for. However, everyone has their own life purpose and moral philosophy that they decide on, no matter their beliefs, and that was how I came to mine. My initial comment was primarily meant as a defense of the ability of individual atheists to find their own sense of purpose within a reality in which there is not one that is universally correct, using a personal example. Personally, I want to make enough of a positive impact on the world, even if just for a few people, that my legacy continues somewhat beyond my death, as the finality of death bothers me. It may not bother others to the same extent, however, and they have their own purposes, such as living a long and/or full life, having fun, etc. I wholly agree that my qualms about death are a result of my former belief system in which death is not final, but I assure you, it is this factor that has lead me to my personal conclusions, rather than a spiritual belief of some intrinsic duty. As I have mentioned in an earlier reply, that initial comment came across differently than I meant it to, as it made it sound as though I was prescribing my own purpose to others. Your interpretation of the conversation is valid, especially given my failure to explain myself properly, but I hope this clears up where I really stand on the matter.

      ----------------------------------------------
      HIDDEN ATHEIST #3
      Again,
      the kingdom of heaven
      is like unto treasure hid in a field (2 in the field);
the which when a man hath found,
      he hideth,
and for joy thereof goeth and
-selleth ALL that he hath-(the 1 is taken)
      and buyeth that field.
      ---------------------------------
      HIDDEN ATHEIST #4
      Again,
the kingdom of heaven (universe; NOT God)
is like unto a merchant man,
      seeking goodly pearls:
      Who,
when he had found one pearl of great price (2 in the field Motion Law),
      went and
      -sold ALL that he had-
      and bought it.
      ----------------------
      HIDDEN ATHEIST #5
      NOW LEARN
a parable of the fig tree
      (A) when his branch is yet tender
      and
      (B) putteth forth leaves
      ye know
      (C) that summer is nigh
      So likewise ye,
when ye shall see all these things,
      know that it is near,
      even at the doors.
      Verily I say unto you,
This (2 in the field) generation shall not pass,
till all these things be fulfilled.
Heaven and earth shall pass away,
but my words (the 1 shall be taken) shall not pass away.
      -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's lonely being the only smart atheist besides Jesus. 2 in the field is motion law that precludes the unequalled force of God. And-A and B; ye know C-is Aristotle syllogism that makes knowledge without God by a material sufficiency of 2. The atheist Revelation calls this "a sharp 2-edged sword."

Of course going to the details would be a little uncalled for in a TH-cam comment section but the very basis of existance as defined by science is that matter exists I.e. the tiniest particles called quarks and other accompanying particles. Essentially in the universe there is a very very very large number of said particles. It is approximatted that there are a 100 billion stars in a single galaxy. just within that galaxy the quarks count would be a astronomical large number. Now let's expand to the observable universe. How many particles exist there? Let's now take the entire universe, how many particles exists there? Short answer an uncountable number. Now let's just say that each particles has a unique interaction with another particle. From chemistry we know that said interceptions can create chemical reactions. Now expanding on that idea, consider the infinite number of interactions and reactions possible. That alone serves as more of a plausible proof of an intervention giving birth to consiousness than saying Simone created it.

      @L.Ron_Dow 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

*+zaftra* A-theism is the lack of a 'belief' in gods until there is sufficient, convincing evidence for their existence. Atheists simply say *_"We do not believe that any gods exist."_* The idea you seem to have, that we say _"There are no gods,"_ comes from a malformed deconstruction of the word in 17th Century France.
Huxley, who invented the word 'agnostic' just over a century ago, did so as to describe himself as the opposite of all those people who say "I *know* God exist" and refers to 'knowledge' only - not 'belief'. His point being that you have no business saying that you 'know' something unless you can prove it.
In reality Dawkins (in common with most non-believers) is an *agnostic-atheist*. He doesn't know and he doesn't believe.
Except for Jocelyn Bell, none of the great scientific minds you mentioned knew what we know today - had they done so, then there is a good chance they, too, would be among the 94% of today's elite scientists who do not believe in a personal god (as, in fact, Einstein didn't.)

According to science the universe is still expanding, but at one point in the infinite time of the universe every star in the sky will burn out or explode. Galaxies will collide or drift away from each other. And all that’ll be left will be dark holes and Star dust. Every person in this planet will be dead by then. There will be no record of humanity or that even life itself existed. All advancements in technology, scientific discoveries, Superbowls, fame, and all the beautiful man made creations will be forgotten. All our work and effort for nothing. So aren’t we all wasting our lives? There is no purpose in this universe and we weren’t even meant to exist.. and so in return the universe will erase its “mistake” eventually and there will be no recollection of any of it. Just Darkness. It’s all vanity

Belief is not a choice! You either believe or you don't. And the reason people don't believe in gods is that none of the evidence presented for their existence is anywhere near convincing.
*Could you believe in Thor is you wanted-to?* I mean be convinced that he exists and causes thunder with his hammer, not just say you believe?
Even Jesus knew that some people will feign faith _"Not everyone who says to me 'Lord, Lord' will enter the kingdom of heaven"_ Matthew 7:21 KJV. You have to *truly* believe - and belief informs your actions.
Now, you having accepted that gods exist, have *_chosen_* to follow the god of the Israelites (I don't know why, are you one?) in preference to one of the others like Baal, El or Asherah.
Yes, if Yahweh exists then so do they. Even the Ten Commandments underscore that.
_"I Am The Lord _*_Thy_*_ God"_ - the other nations have their own gods.
_"Thou Shalt Have No _*_Other Gods_*_ Before Me"_ - not "I'm the only god" but "I am the only god you will worship".
The Hebrews were not monotheistic, they were henotheistic. The 'One True God' idea comes from the exclusivity deemed necessary to prevent another disaster like the Babylonian exhile and is meant in the same way as saying: 'Bing Crosby is the Only Crooner', 'Frank Sinatra is the Only Jazz singer' or 'Manchester United is the Only UK soccer team'.
So, *you have chosen* your god - the one who orders the genocides of the Amalekites, Midianites & more, who drowns almost the entire human race, who permits possession of people as property, who orders countless abortions, who allows 9 million babies and toddlers to die each year (a 2004 tsunami death toll *every 10 days,* just for under-fives), through no fault of their own - I hope you're happy with him.
Personally, I think I would choose Thor.

Getting rid of religion wont get rid of ignorance and fear. If we didn't have religion, then I strongly suspect that someone else would come along to fill that void of control and demand worship, subservience, obedience, and LOYALTY from the fearful masses... and the masses would probably fall for it, and empower said person, and give them enormous power over life and death...

At the time of Yeshua, whatever happened within the Jewish community, was really of no importance to their oppression of the Jews by the Roman Empire and of its military.

I have found this out, but of which reference I do not now have at hand; I am sure I can find it if I try, as you could if you tried!

I personally believe that what people refer to as God has been mistaken and that scientists actually understand it's real meaning. "God" is just the adjective for the process in which the universe, through natural laws, becomes able to experience and observe itself. Consciousness.

      @efrainsaune139 8 ปีที่แล้ว

there is not such thing as multiverse, but universe. i would like to ask you, Lacerations what universe means to you, and is it finite or infinite?
when you say that God is just the adjective for the process in which the universe, through natural laws becomes able to experience and observe itself. we have a misconception of God, we think we could fit God in this 3pounds of brain, fit in a little box or we just talk from a different god. Once again if i would think that God was only an adjective of the process.... i would be an animistic guy and therefore i would be contradicting my own thought or belief. Consciousness is one of the brilliant facts that God is the REAL

    • @SelcraigClimbs
      @SelcraigClimbs 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You can not state that as an objective fact. I would answer your question with a completely honest "I don't know". Because the truth of the matter my friend is that no-one knows. It is illogical to claim to know the truth of the universe. BUT there exists probabilities. A multiverse is one such probability.
You misunderstand. "God" in my definition has nothing to do with the individual brain, but the sum total of conscious existence. All of the processes that come together that allow the universe to observe itself. For you can not deny we are made from the universe's materials, and all beliefs acknowledge this. Being made from the universe we are an extension of said universe. I almost agree with your last point, but you're narrowing your own vision there. EVERYTHING is the 'real'. God/consciousness and all existence is the 'real' and all of it is completely natural and by definition cannot be supernatural (outside of nature)

And your belief would be an infinity loop of creation. There is no start and there is no end. Which, ofcourse is rather illogical. It does not make sense at all.

If you believe in god, please answer me here:
What is the objective of god? For us to be happy? Then, why does he want us to be happy? If your answer is “it’s because he loves us”, then, if he loves us, he has a human instinct, so he has a brain, so he has a body and he’s somewhere, and how does he interact with us makes me think in this. Imagine for a second god didn’t exist, how would the world be right now? That’s right, exactly the same. I think people believe in god because it’s a comfortable lie, instead of believing the uncomfortable truth that if you die, it all goes black forever, and that life is unfair, no matter of your acts.
Why do we pray? If he can hear us, he has to have an way to sense the waves in the air in the form of sound, and he has to understand our lenguage. There’s a way that you can answer this question, one being “it’s because he can know what are we thinking in” so he has to have a way to sense and process the synapses in our brain cells and interpret them, which is illogical. What does he get from this anyway?

I believe in God. His objective is for us to be happy because that is what we were made for. He does love us, but this in no way signifies that he has a human instinct or brain. If God didn't exist, the world would not exist because God created the world and exists outside of time, so the world would never have been created in the first place. Also, there would be no right, no wrong; therefore, send Mother Theresa to jail and give Stalin a Nobel Peace Prize because without God, morality, justice, and objective right and wrong cease to exist.
As a Christian, believing in God is not comfortable. Christ asks us to take up our cross and unite our suffering with his. He doesn't tell us we will be comfortable and that everything will be alright in this life. Unless we are willing to die for Christ, we will not rise again. A completely comfortable life is not a Christian life, at least insofar as Christ willed his followers to live - in self-sacrificial love. If we fail to live as Christ willed us to live, we will go to hell - even if we are self-proclaimed Christians. The early Christian martyrs provide a good historical example regarding what I'm talking about.
God is all powerful and all-knowing, so nothing can prevent him from knowing our thoughts. If he could not understand our thoughts, then he wouldn't be God in the first place. God created the material world out of nothing, so it is illogical to presuppose that he cannot interpret between his own, material creation and his own, non-material self.

Theists hold that God is the center of the universe. If life had no meaning, we would never be able to argue that it has no meaning, so that statement is an absurdity. We are insignificant and small, but life's meaning is found in relation to God, the true center of the universe, from which the universe and all in it derive its meaning and purpose.
Moreover, I am providing rational arguments for my beliefs, whereas you are simply throwing yours out as "fact" without justification or addressing the points I raised.

Xorem Good question! God isn’t someone else... God is you, at least the ‘ground of all being’, ie. the ground of your and my and the cat next doors being. What does God want? What do we thrive on? Meaning, purpose, love, relationships - the highest good (summum bonum) etc. Why do we pray? To connect (etymology of “re-ligion” means - to reconnect) with our deeper selves, and ultimately with all Nature and all sentient beings. Dawkins is an inspiring writer and biologist, but I don’t think he understands religion. A religious person may limit himself to the statement, " There is a God", but there's usually much more to it than that. A Christian may believe, not only that there is a God who is the omnipotent creator of the universe, but he sent a hurricane to destroy New Orleans, that he cured Aunt Bee's breast cancer, and sent his son into the world 2,000 years ago to die for the salvation of all mankind. I would say that the existence of God, or at least the "personal god" that believers have more variables than the Powerball.
You may be correct in saying that there is a God. That could very well be true, but that doesn't mean he convinced Noah to build an ark.

@Troy: *Maybe but it's not a 'Who' it's a 'What'* - and even that is not an entity.
Richard Dawkins speaks British English - the interviewer is British. In British colloquial English the word 'gift' can apply to anything that you haven't had to pay for:
      *Gifts with an identifiable giver:*
The sun *gives* us light and warmth.
Our clothes *give* us protection from the elements.
A falling apple *gave* Newton the idea about gravity.
A dog will *give* its owner, love & obedience.
Hemorrhoids don't *give* you a pain in the neck.
      *Gifts with a 'non-thing', 'non-what' or 'non-who' giver:*
The lack of hard evidence for abiogenesis is a *gift* to creationists and priests alike.
The conditions near to deep-sea hydrothermal vents *give* minerals an opportunity to begin a series of chemical reactions that we call 'biology'. Probably, one such reaction, that started billions of years ago, *gave* us 'life'.
An accidental duplication of the SRGAP2 gene 2.4mya *gifted* us with intelligence.
Belief in gods *gives* you an impediment to clear, rational thinking.
Boromir about the 'One Ring': _"It is a _*_gift. A gift_*_ to the foes of Mordor. Why not use this ring?"_ The *gift* Boromir talked of was *not given* by Sauron but by the *series of happenstances* that took the 'One Ring' from Sauron's hand and brought it, via Elendil, Deagol, Smeagol, Bilbo & Frodo, to the Council of Elrond at Imladris.
The point is, *a giver is not necessary to acquire gifts and even when one is, there is no requirement for it to have intelligence or intent.*
In this case the 'giver' is *'Happenstance.'*

I perceive and see that "personal" morality is today as anyone wants to see it as more "superior" morality that according to their own insight is better and if not met of what they have made to "respect" while constantly lying, misleading, throwing tantrums, manipulating, twisting, become uncontrolled, let their personal demons speak instead and are not aware of them which they are possessed with, then these so called personal moralities are then nil and void because the evidence learns they will move their goal posts whatever that suits them. Regardless the Bible. What they call it then is "freedom" but are not aware they are not themselves as they should be. It belongs to the same level of rebellion, witchcraft and self righteousness and it destroys anything in their path to ruin things because of their point of view as better. Hence such many times have to resort to medication that need to control their way of thinking and personal behaviours. Which then also results into cormorbid aggressive behaviour that is now unfolding all over everywhere in groups and individuals which then easily can be put as evil.
Selfrighteous and selfimposed morality is a terrible bar to line up to and to say this their so called selfinvented "moral" compass. Shifting to what gratifies your own liking results in doing more evil because you yourself or anyone else's is the standard of it all. As it stands today a lot just keep stretching it for their own gratification and rather listens to their own self and causes more evil to thrive everywhere. BTW what do you know what evil and not evil is and by which standards ? Your own ? Somebody else's ? Your personal "guru", "idol", someone stuffed with high "intellectual, manipulative, selfimposed" information ?

Third-century Africanus is talking about Thallus talking about a possible eclipse - not Jesus. Africanus is connecting it to Luke. Nothing of Thallus's work has survived - all we know is what christian apologists said about his work - we don't even know when the guy lived.
Can you please quote the lines where Mara Bar-Serapion mentions the name 'Jesus' or 'Christ' in his letter?
Twelve early Christian writers do not refer to Josephus's mention of "Jesus, who was called Christ", in fact Origen specifically said that Josephus did not believe Jesus was the Christ (even though he mentions other people with variants of that name). Once Eusebius gets his hands on the document - then the words suddenly appear in commentaries. Hmm. Even more suspicious is that some of the words found use Greek meanings - and as I understand it Josephus himself said that he couldn't write Greek and could only just about understand it when spoken (he says, as a Jew, learning Greek was actively discouraged). Even some post-Eusebius writers have commented on manuscripts of Josephus in which Jesus is not mentioned and one that popped-up in the 1970s lacks Christian references too.
IIRC the reference in the Talmud (which is the strongest) - it only mentions the 'brother of James'
In fact none of your 'sources' were alive when Jesus is supposed to have been alive.
However, here's one where 'Christ' was mentioned very early one: The Emperor Hadrian (ruled 117-138 CE himself is thought to have written: "...my dear Servianus, ... There those who worship Serapis are, in fact, Christians, and those who call themselves bishops of Christ are, in fact, devotees of Serapis. There is no chief of the Jewish synagogue, no Samaritan, no Christian presbyter, who is not an astrologer, a soothsayer, or an anointer. Even the Patriarch himself, when he comes to Egypt, is forced by some to worship Serapis, by others to worship Christ".
One of the earliest mentions of Christianity is by Tacitus - and what does he call it *_'a pernicious superstition"._* I love it.
Now, Serapis was an Egyptian god *invented* before the *Third Century BCE* - so why the confusion - or was it not confusion at all - just a recognition that Jesus was an invention based on Serapis?
Years ago, I went to a Star Trek convention where there were loads of Trekkies - does that mean James T Kirk is/was/will be a real start-ship captain? Or that he even existed?
Because people are prepared to die for what they believe to be true *doesn't make it true*. Heard of 'Heaven's Gate'? Do I have to list the number of cults that have resulted in suicide?

The law of noncontradiction is taken by rationalists as faith even if it works. Improves lives? yes. But true? idk. Rationalists will always win in a debate because they play by their own rules. you want to tell me it exists? prove it, show it to me. They made a mechanism so narrow-minded it restricts them from contemplating what's outside of "thinking"-----from a post-rationalist.
