A co-worker learned I was an atheist and told me I need to read the bible. I had to explain I'm an Atheist because I have read the bible, not because I haven't. I remember being 5 or 6 years old pointing out contradictions and things that didn't make sense in bible study. I was basically asked to keep my mouth shut or not comeback. This seems to be very common with religious people, you aren't allowed to question anything in the bible no matter how well meaning.

Mark Nagel A coworker who has known me for years overheard me say, I’m an Atheist. She came straight away to me and said, Paul! Did you say, you’re an Atheist? I replied, Yes, of course. How’s that possible? You’re such a generous and kind person, you can’t be an ATHEIST!!! I assured her Atheists are no different than theists. She said, well I don’t know anything about those theists, but Atheists are Devil worshippers. I let out a laugh and as I walked away I said I don’t believe in the devil either Cathy. We’ve gone from a kind smile and good morning to her avoiding eye contact. It is what it is.

I was raised Catholic and went to church Christmas Eve once a year. We had a bible which collected dust and God forbid writing it that's sacrilegious! On August 1st 1985, after a series of events led to my salvation, I asked God in my room if he was real and that certain scriptures to be saved were almost to good to be true. August 9th I went to a Baptist church and was baptized August 9th and radically changed. I have since then heard God audibly once and it was right on, had a vision or saw something before it came to pass. Anyway, you believe evolution made us?

I had a very similar experience at the age of 8, when I asked a question in Sunday school (which was never answered), and immediately after that class, a big, red-faced deacon took me into an empty room and pushed me against the wall, leaned down to get in my face and said, "You believe what we TELL you to believe, and stop asking stupid questions!" I was, of course, intimidated at the time, but I never forgot it, and it was what began my journey away from christianity.

We were all indoctrinated as soon as we were born, but then you grow up, and study and learn, and some of us even go to college and are taught how to think critically. (Why the American public education system waits until college to teach student about logic and critical thinking is beyond me.). Its like when. you were a child and you believed in Santa Clause, but then you slowly figure it out... that that was all bullshit, but for fun. Those of us that have the aptitude, capacity and integrity to be honest with ourselves and not want to be deluded by myth, finally realize end up at deprogramming. where you realize everything you were ever told was a big fat lie, and that the truth is wayyyyy more wondrous and weird. Congrats on breaking thru the indoctrination, life is way more sweeter on this side.

if the Christian God is an invention then the 'inventors' aren't really smart, creating a God that says we are not worthy, we are to die for ourselves and that no human can save himself, lol. The Bible states the truth, not some ideology created by humans, otherwise humanity would be differently portrayed and other expectations from humanity would be stated. The people would be rather in the centre, as in other religions, and it would be said that we can safe ourselves by being good. Yeah, that sounds like something a human being makes up. But the Bible says we're totally deprived and we should receive God's grace by abandoning our own, egocentric lives. That is not convenient or somehow helpful so that a man could have written it...
Bible 'contradictions' come up mainly due to poor Bible reading or skipping the context.
      Be blessed

My former pastor claims that there are no contradictions in the bible.
When I challenged him on the subject he became irritated and wanted to end the conversation. Of course he denounced me for tempting god. He told me to repent because "without faith it is impossible to please him (god)." Hebrews 11:6
Fundamentalist Christians are afraid of intellectual honesty because they believe that they might open themselves up to Satan. They are closed-minded as a way of insulating themselves from temptation. Doubt is a sure way to hell in their world. Questioning authority is rebellion and rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft (1Samuel 15:23) and witches go to hell.
The fear of Hell is a motivating factor in not considering opposing views. Its amazing that I was able to break free from such mental bondage. Religious indoctrination is powerful.
I'm glad there is a growing atheist community on TH-cam who are fighting the good fight of unbelief.

Firstable I want to say how grateful I'm for people like you.
I'm a Guatemalan 47 years old, born in a catholic poor family, all my childhood was surrounded by religious materials, I went to church very often, I was hearing the words God, Jesus, Jesus Christ, Holy Spirit , Mary mother of God, Glory, heaven, Hell, Angels etc. many times every day, I was baptized when I was 4 years old, I confessed my supposedly sins many times intended to get internal peace.
In my adulthood I also preached to a group on young people.
I felt goosebumps as many of you, I experienced all those feelings believers feel, but later on during my adulthood I started questioning if what I was doing was right?.
Because like most of you, when I prayed also crying suffering because my own problems, my own need of spiritual wisdom to deal with my insecurities, because others pain, others poverty, others illness, others being abused, others being humiliated, others sadness because they lost a healthy young child and me willing to do any on their favor, etc. etc. I didn't get any answer from the god I trusted, the god I was taught was good enough better than any terrestrial good father.
It is not easy to get rid off those traumas when you were born in a religious home.
Because I went through an internal war .
The war my brain was fighting itself.
Even though I had on all my scope the truth, the trauma fought my brain and made me suffer even more than the long time I was praying asking for answers.
During my sleeping time I went true such nightmares, but after a period of years of pain finally peace came.
    And now I'm free.
I want to tell to anyone willing to be free, that we don't need such literate atheists instruct us about the matter.
    No we don't need it.
Enought we have with our daily basis, observe what happens in the scope in front of us..
Also read the bible, because the same bible will say, that it is fooling us.
It is sad to see, how millions are deceived by their own thought.

Thank you! Like the Sodom and Gomorrah story that has been used for centuries to subconsciously justify contempt and hatred of homosexuals through subjective ( and therefore, unfair and invalid) comparison. The fact that the " righteous daughters" in the story effectually raped their own father in order to procreate is not considered any type of perversion? Or that this " righteous man" offered his own daughters to a mob of men to be raped was not considered immoral.

If I was a Christian I’d be putting homosexuals to the sword, burning witches, killing anyone who worked on the sabbath or disrespected and/or preached something that didn’t line up with what my priest taught.
The “Christians” that do live by some of the clothing and dietary laws of Leviticus and then ignore the parts about killing homosexuals, witches, and all the others too many list baffle me even more. And those stories were a lot of times exact replicas of what happened. Such as the resurrection of Jesus that has happened probably 5 to 8 times in other god stories.

Proverbs 26:4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him

I wasn't getting honest answers in fact there was one minister who would start shouting _"mark them that cause division, mark them that cause division!"_ I didn't intend to cause division. So I think I understand why the Lord said he brought a sword of devision. However, that doesn't explain away the semi trailer load of inconsistencies and contradictions in the Bible, let alone church.

I can't debunk Jesus, since the burden of proof is on Christianity to back up itself. But hey, I understand the feeling. I felt like that for awhile after deconverting. Look at it this way. Christians tell you about the hell they believe in, but they also happen to not believe in the thousands of other hells of other religions. They just happen to have been convinced of one. I just came to realize, that they all are on equal footing. None of theme make logical sense, or have any evidence to back their existence.
If someone says that to you again, ask them if they worry about all the other hells. I'm sure they don't believe in other hells. So there you go, you just happen to not believe in theirs too.

You already aren’t scared of and don’t believe in numerous hells, you just need to go one further. And remember you aren’t the one making the claim that Jesus came back to life, you don’t need to prove he didn’t come back until it’s proven that he did. Right now I don’t know if Jesus came back or not, I don’t think he did because it goes against what we know, and I haven’t seen any reliable evidence presented to support he did resurrect, so until I’m given a reason to believe I’m not going to and I’m not going to waste time being scared of consequences for not believing that same thing.

It was a deliberate and systematic institution condone by all the Christian's bishops and popes. If you ever wonder why you should never follow christianity and any other fairytale religions. You should look what the slave master used against you. They use the "Black codes of 1724" to put slave into a indoctrination and subservient mindset. I appreciate the points being made. I am a Christian and believe the major points of the Bible. God did not dictate word for word the Bible. He used people to document and record events. It should not be surprising that minor errors occur. Two people seeing the same event will have different perspectives and notice different details and even elaborate some details, but the fact that the event happened is still true. The major theme of the Bible is that humanity is corrupt and needs to be saved. God provided that salvation through Jesus. All you have to do is trust Jesus for the salvation God has provided. I do not think any sane person can look at the world we live in and the people who live in it (including yourself) and not admit that there is something fundamentally wrong with our nature.

Except we have no idea who wrote the gospels. They weren't written by witnesses. They have been translated over and over after being told by word of mouth for years.
You can find people alive today who will tell you about their having been abducted by aliens. Will you believe them? That is not as fantastic a claim as the resurrection.

I like the song “freedom from religion”. I realized in my deepest being that there was no such thing as a god.I had a profound experience at 10 years old that nature was all there is in the material world. There is no deep mystery filled with control of thinking nor judgements. In nature there is no judgement, simple and pure in it’s make up.There is no journey for everything is complete and thus we are also complete. We have just forgotten that we have all knowledge ,but religions do no want us to know to maintain power over us.I was aware of the game decades ago, and don’t buy into the retoric.

The trouble I have is that the Israelites must have believed in the existence of other gods because they so frequently ended up worshipping them too. God therefore must have failed to explain to them that these other gods didn’t actually exist? The Bible just calls them foreign and not fake. And God talks about attacking foreign gods and making them ‘ashamed’, etc. How can a made-up god feel shame? If the Israelites didn’t know that the other gods weren’t real then it seems to be because their god didn’t know they weren’t real. Which would suggest ....

And those stories were a lot of times exact replicas of what happened. Such as the resurrection of Jesus that has happened probably 5 to 8 times in other god stories.

Hey there! If you are still searching I recommend "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible" by Steve Wells. You can also find the 558 marked contradictions listed on their website www.skepticsannotatedbible.com/contra/number.html
Each item on the list links to a short article on the contradiction, which is very handy. This online list, however, is not divided in OT and NT, but you can look up the chapters, which are divided in old and new T, on the homepage www.skepticsannotatedbible.com/index.htm
The book and website also list ridiculous and horrendous things in the bible and explain things very well. I've used it several times now.

even though this video is old, it's timely for me. i'm currently watching 'colonial house' on youtube - essentially a 'reality' show about a bunch of 21st century people who pretend to be from 1628... it's basically more a social experiment wrapped around horrible camping trip. but the 'leader' of this thing is a preacher from texas - his reason for being there was to understand the people that came to america to 'escape religious persecution'... then spends all his efforts trying to force non-believes to show up at his sermons every sunday. he does finally 'see the light' though, so credit to him. i get that 400 years ago, or 1000 years ago or pick a time, the church was a huge part of everyone's life... people were ignorant, science was the 'bad guy' because it disproved most of what the church said, and waving eternal damnation and threat of getting burned at the stake is a great way to control people... much like today - keep them stupid and scared and you OWN them. don't get me wrong, i'm happy for people that have this 'thing' that seems to make them happy - but it's a choice, not a necessity... if having a pet is still considered a luxury, even with it's proven positive benefits, then religion should be considered a luxury - and taxed appropriately. simply because something has been around for a long time, and lots of people do it (like slavery), doesn't make it 'right'.

Easy answer. Look at how long they lived before they died. Hundreds of years. Plenty of time to have tons of kids. Pay particular attention to what Cain says in Genesis 4:14 he says every one who finds me will slay me. If no one knew who he was then why would he be worried about people slaying him. If no one knew who he was he has nothing to fear. If they were All related to him he would have everything to fear.
