My best friend age 76 has stage 3a kidney disease so I watch podcasts on kidney disease. I'm happy to hear the protein you eat has no impact on the protein in your urine. For two years I lived on 8,000 calories and 300 grams of protein a day at 135 lbs. Last time I was at a doctor's office was in 1969 so I feel better now.
I think it depends on each individual patient. Your friend should consult his doctor and know his blood test scores. But age-wise he is in the lower risk group for those with EFR above 45.
i am 57 had a kidney transplant 17 years ago and has now failed so i am now on dialysis and my daughter is being tested my creatin was 5 and my gfr was 7 i was having a lot of fluid retenion and sob. and i am diabetic.

Hi James and thank you ❤️ I am stage 3, no protein in my urine, bun 25, cr 1.28, GFR 46, 67 yrs old. I am just starting on low protein diet, my question is do you eat the plant based frozen foods like chicken and hamburger or do you eat tofu you cook yourself?
Seems like too many people here are asking for a diagnosis instead of general tips. I say ask you doctor for the specifics that pertain to you, but watch all your blood test scores and monitor what works.. eating habits, exercise etc. The Kidney foundation has a website with food dos and don'ts to help you avoid potassium and phosphorus. Watch sodium, sugar, pop and prossessed foods. All very important.
My doctor told me I was 3B, but when I started seeing him I was 3A.. it scared me how fast it changed in a month. I stopped seeing him and went with a good CKD diet and exercise and was being monitored for BP by my primary. I am 3A again.
@@ItsMarlies Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a substance that helps convert food into energy. CoQ10 is found in almost every cell in the body, and it is a powerful antioxidant. Hi I have your book, but My situation is unique in that I have hardening of the arteries . I had a stint in my right kidney for several years, but due to a brain bleed, I was taken off my blood thinner for awhile. Meanwhile, 2 Weeks after getting off the blood thinner, I got a blood clot that took out my kidney with the stint. I am left with the left kidney which performs at about 35%. My vascular surgeon contemplated putting a stint in the left kidney, but finally decided to just leave it alone. He said the blood flow seemed ok for now. However,😊my kidney doctor asked the surgeon to reconsider the stint. Which brings me to an important question. Kidney Dr requested CT scan of my kidneys with contrast? I was told, when I was first Diagnosed with stage 3 kidney failure, to never let any Dr use contrast during testing? So,?what do you advise? Please asap answer!!!!! Thank You Janice Martin-Peers

I use a LOT of olive oil and avocado oil - it is in nearly everything I make and is packed with calories . I also eat a lot of carbs (I will bake a large potato as a side with most meals, top it with steamed veggies, olive oil, real cheese). I love nuts that have some olive oil and spices on them, another high calorie snack. My caloric intake is far too high, even though I’m eating based on my labs. I have to work on lowering my calories and increasing exercise. For those looking to gain weight, healthy oils are easy to add extra calories quickly.

Hi James, Hi Doctor, I am on stage 3 and have taken ACE for half year. But lately I felt dizzy and fainted from low blood pressure. Should I stop the ACE ?
This is a question for your doctor. I recommend checking your blood pressure at home and keeping a log of the results to share with your doctor. Your doctor may reduce the frequency, dose, or type of medication you are on.
Your doctor can run the blood work to check your kidney function (eGFR) and key levels, along with a urine analysis to check for protein in your urine. Together you'll have information to help adjust your diet and treatment strategy.
Hello James, does creatinine elevate with phos and calcium medicines? My mom's creatine was elevated from 1.92 to 2.21 then 2.21 to 3.26 in just 4 months. is this happening because of medicines?? she does not have any symptoms not even swelling. please answer please
Some medications can cause elevated creatinine, but the list is fairly small of those that cause that. Creatinine is natural and comes from muscle - she may be loosing muscle mass which could be the cause, or it could be that her kidney function is declining. Only her doctor can tell the real cause, allowing you to help her take measures to address it.
i’m out recent kidney. Tell your patient. I’ve changed my diet now. I’m vegan. I’ve changed my diabetic status to normal. I’m at A1c 5.3. What is the stats or statistics? what levels am I looking for on my blood work to indicate my CK level to get off dialysis?

51 with egfr 16% but trace protein. What is your advice regarding dialysis? Seems like one should still delay it as long as trace protein. Am I right ?
You need to know the protein in your urine, then visit kidneyfailurerisk.com/ to find your risk of needing dialysis in the future. I have a chapter in my first book (Conquering Kidney Disease) that talks about this - the rates of needing dialysis are pretty low. :-)
Yes that is possible - and it is preferable. Urine protein is a strong indicator that your kidney function will decline, so no having any puts the odds in your favor of not needing dialysis in the future.
Visit kidneyfailurerisk.com/ to get your risk factor based on a few of your labs. Knowing how much protein you are leaking (if any) is key to this formula.
