So happy to see you are doing these 30 minute webinars. They are extremely helpful. And I really enjoy being able to focus on just one presenter. Yes, but my organs suffered. If you are able to, figure out what is right/feels right for you. In 2022 i started experiencing severe body inflammation, reacting to foods, pains at kidney area but labs and scans couldn't find the cause, after research i started adopting low carb, Protein diet which seems to improve my symptoms... Current labs show WBC, HAEMOGLOBIN are constantly low, low magnessiym, Hba1C 5.4%, Bp 99/50 and EGFR constantly dropiping from >100 now 86. 2024 But still Doctors can't figure out what's wrong with me... Sleep issues, Weight and muscle loss, reacting to food etc Any suggestions? Could it be CKD? Autoimmune Disease?
Hi doctor, thank you as always for your advice. Question, assuming im already on a healthy plant based diet, as a 25 year old with ckd stage 3, should I be going to the gym to either lift weights or work on building muscle at all as I believe it raises creatinine, and if not, how about cardio and resistance training? Im open to doing whats most optimal for my health. Thank you!
This is very interesting Dr. Hashmi. However. What would you suggest to a person whom has. IBD( inflammatory bowel disease) with an Ileostomy who can not eat seeds and nuts and fresh fruits and veggies but who has stage 4 ckd
I am on a very low protein diet...high carb (60-70%) but lower fat...I do eat a few "white carbs" offset, however, by whole grains, esp. limited processed grains like oats and Wasa rye crispbread. I actually walked around my kitchen and computed the ratio of cars:fiber and marked all packages of grains! But, I need calories, so I do use bean threads every day...with the greens I grow in my garden. Overall, stable since 2009, lost weight, BMI 18, no CRP (so low not in range)...I eat NO meat, fish, eggs, nuts, dairy, and very limited legumes...string beans OK, and can deal with some chickpeas/hummus as amino acid compostion is lower than kidney beans, for example. I use pharm grade amino acids and my kidney doctor finally gets what I am doing and am telling people to eat less meat. It's a step in the right direction, I guess! The Walser book got me started and I have since worked out my own eating pattern and use Cronometer to track everything I ingest. (since 2009...can compare my blood tests to various eating periods!)
Thanks Dr Hashmi for such an excellent information. I’ve always enjoyed your lectures. Nuts increase protein load , I’m CKD 4. Please advice which are best nuts to eat. Thank you
I never knew there was such a thin as an unhealthy plant based diet! All I ever hear is plant based is fresh foods and veggies only. Great information! I wonder if Crystal Light is bad?
Hello Dr. Hashmi. I came upon your webinars by chance. After this evening's session, a 4 yr old lecture on plant based diet started playing and I watched it through. Within the lecture, you were talking about how everyone is obsessed about protein and you talked about the secretion of albumin as a result of eating protein, emphasizing that protein is not as important as people think. In another webinar, you spoke about muscle and bone density loss resulting from weight loss (especially fast weight loss). My question is, what nutrients are important to recover muscle not only during weight loss not during weight training? I'm confused about that. Even my doctor thinks it's all about protein. Thanks.
Anytime youd add a sweetener to foods that aren’t unprocessed fruit will make ur health worse because no matter how healthy u believe them to be, theres no fiber to slow the glucose absorption
From the National Kidney Foundation: "Ask your health care professional if there are any special instructions to follow. You may need to avoid eating or drinking anything (except water) for several hours before the test. You may also be asked not to eat any cooked meat the night before the test. It can increase the level of creatinine in your blood and affect your eGFR results."
What is the best tea that I can drink WITHOUT have anything in it that will speed up my heart? I would like the benefits but don’t want anything that energizes my heart.
Hi Doc...I have been diagnosed with depression and anxiety long before. and it think it has worsened this time because my lab results showed that my BUN is 50, Crea is 1.016...no proteinuria, no swelling, normal bp, 4 hba1c. the physician who interpreted my results said i have stage 1 kidney disease. it worries me a lot, i hope i can get response from you. i have tried seeking answers to experts on their youtube accounts but did not get any response. by the way, I used to be on keto diet. but i stopped it when i had learnt about my health issue. although i still eat peanuts because i thought plant based proteins are safe. I am 39 y/o weighing 58.5 kgs. should i be very worried about my condition? any advice you could give me? thank you very very much ❤
Love you Dr you saved me from going to dialysis I told the doctors dialysis is not for me I do believe deep inside that with your advice i can make it through....Im starting the whole food plant base diet...nuts legumes vegetables fruits and whole grain...no salt and exercise....Do you advise I eat all kinds of nuts legumes vegetables fruits and whole grains I mean the real ones not the fake ones?
I believe you said drinking water before a kidney test will increase eGFR. I did a google search and could only find doctors saying NO to that question. I tried posting a link but the entire comment disappeared!
@@SELFPrinciple Well, if that's the case, then not drinking enough water before the test would give a false lower eGFR. You could wake up in a warm room, perhaps perspired a bit, urinate, and maybe your body has lost some water and needs more water! Also, how come the National Kidney Foundation doesn't say not to drink too much water before the test? From the National Kidney Foundation: "Ask your health care professional if there are any special instructions to follow. You may need to avoid eating or drinking anything (except water) for several hours before the test. You may also be asked not to eat any cooked meat the night before the test. It can increase the level of creatinine in your blood and affect your eGFR results."
@@SELFPrinciple Aside from my earlier reply, a vague answer like too much is not very helpful. Be specific, how much is too much? 2 glasses, 3 glasses, 4 glasses? I should hope it is more than one glass! Anyway, one may also have to take into account how much water is lost via perspiration, stress, and urination. signed, ambizytl M.D. (retired mystical detective).

The kidneys need to produce at least approximately 1 litre of urine per day to excrete the urea generated by the body during the day. If you do not drink enough to replace this 1 litre plus any other losses (from skin, gut), you will become dehydrated and the kidneys will reduce GFR and urine output to conserve water. If your GFR is low due to kidney disease and you are not dehydrated, you cannot increase your GFR by drinking more water."

1. Red bell peppers · 2. Cabbage · 3. Cauliflower · 4. Garlic · 5. Onions · 6. Apples. Which vegetables are good for chronic kidney disease? Fruits: berries, grapes, cherries, apples, plums. Veggies: cauliflower, onions, eggplant, turnips. Proteins: lean meats (poultry, fish), eggs, unsalted seafood. Carbs: white bread, bagels, sandwich buns, unsalted crackers, pasta. Make sure the bread has no phosphates , Anything that says PHOS is not good .
I don't eat any plants or plant oils, only meat and animal fats. The proof that animal fats are healthier and chemically different to plant oils is that they get the heart logo because they lower cholesterol which is not a good thing if my body is making it. There is a reason why my body makes a certain amount of cholesterol and I don't think ingesting bad things to alter it is wise.
Avoid things high in sodium such as the plant based meat alternatives and chips, oreos ect. Eat whole foods plant based, rice, beans, legumes, fresh fruits and veggies. Avoid highly processed foods. And everything in moderation.
One of the hardest parts of healthy food is bread. If you bake your own , look for organic wholemeal flour. There are also white stone ground bread flours that still contain the wheat germ and some of the fibre but it is difficult to find. There are 5 problems with a lot of commercial bread. 1 lack of fibre ( even brown bread often has no wheat germ and only a small amount of fibre has been added back in) 2 very finely milled down to tiny starch grains so the starch is released as sugar very quickly in the gut when you eat the bread 3 inorganic flour may contain glyphosate from grain conditioning prior to harvest. 4 very short cooking times, often by steaming and then browning the outside rather than proper baking 5 added chemical emulsifiers to make the bread very soft. You can buy inorganic good quality bread flour that is just as good as organically certified flour, it is often from smaller flour mills. Good quality flour has not been pre harvest conditioned, or treated with insecticide while the grain is in long storage, but there is no way of finding out this information for commercial bread.
Last year I had stage 3 kidney disease and in three months my kidneys went back to normal. Thanks to God and changing my diet it happened. I mainly ate vegetables, fruit in moderation and fish. I must admit that I still had homemade mayo made with two eggs but it was only a tsp or two. I still followed a low carb diet. I sometimes had some brown rice not much. For years I had tumors in my kidneys and that went too, by going on the keto diet and prayers. Now I have chicken some days and now and then red meat. I keep my portion in control. I drink decaf coffee and tea. I eat nuts again keeping the portion in control. I have keto chocolate fudge sometimes but it's so good the way I make it that I am thinking of making it often. I went off chocolate when I had problems last year with the kidneys and tea and coffee and eggs. Hope this helps
Doe this man believe that with this video he will convince ANYONE , that vegetarian ( plant based)nutrition style is BAD.? Then he needs to step back and do an extensive survey.n I did a ten days fresh green juices - some years ago - celery, spinach @ carrots - 3 juices a day - no hard food . THE BEST THIN I EVER DID FOR MYSELF. I HAD SO MUCH ENERGY - I thought I gre wings…. Then I quit meat, quit dairy and all of gluten/ wheat products, never looked back - 20 years ago.
Yes ,you are right , for some people it will not only kill your kidneys but your joints, eyes and other organs , but for other people don't, why? , we don't know and doctors don't care, since there is no money involve in knowing or treating it.
Not convinced by this, as many plants are rich in oxalates, which are the basis of kidney stones and rheumatoid arthritis. Animal proteins are superior to plant proteins, as they are more immediately available to the body.
You need to break down long chains into individual amino acids so no, not quickly available. Also the body recycles amino acids up to 200 grams per day, so no worries about plant proteins being inferior. But the old theories are still quite popular, especially amongst carnivore enthusiasts.

Was Stage III for 8 or so years. Stable with gfr of 45-49gfr. Diagnosed diabetic with a1c at 6.5 after being pre-diabetic for 30 years. Went low-carb and did intermittent and quarterly 3 day fasting. Lost 120 lbs. A1c is now 5.4 (non-diabetic) and latest gfr was 88 (fairly normally for an 83 year old). Other benefits: no longer get sunburns, no more plucking hairs from my ears, sleep like a baby 6&1/4 hours nightly, feeling 30 years younger. I'll stick with what I'm doing.

McDougall and Peter Rogers definitely don't support nut consumption. They're also against all oils, salt and junky type carbs along with a lot of other stuff. Not sure if they should just be considered "Whole Foods Plant Based" though. Their diets are pretty extreme (not saying they are wrong or right here).

@@Braisin-Raisin If you are 80 years old and have never been sick, you are batting 100 at the baseball game. I will be 70 this November and just started to have some worrisome health challenges. I've been on keto 3 times and it gave me high cholesterol and protein in the urine all 3 times. Be careful people with your large consumption of MEAT!! Did I lose weight on keto? Yes, but my organs suffered. If you are able to, figure out what is right/feels right for you. Since I never liked eating meat - I stopped and went plant based and didn't listen to every rule in the book, I did ME, I've got 5 more pounds to go for my 40 pound weight loss, but I want to lose an additional 5 pounds. I don't eat meat, fish, dairy and limit sodium, phosphorous and potassium and sugar intake. This will help your kidneys if you are being challenged with this as I am with stage 2. I've changed everything up and I am doing great and want ALL of you to do great also! Sometimes you have to let your beloved habits go if you want to get better.
Sleep issues, Weight and muscle loss, reacting to food etc
Any suggestions? Could it be CKD? Autoimmune Disease?

Hi doctor, thank you as always for your advice. Question, assuming im already on a healthy plant based diet, as a 25 year old with ckd stage 3, should I be going to the gym to either lift weights or work on building muscle at all as I believe it raises creatinine, and if not, how about cardio and resistance training? Im open to doing whats most optimal for my health. Thank you!
What about plant based(primarily) keto diet?
This is very interesting Dr. Hashmi. However. What would you suggest to a person whom has. IBD( inflammatory bowel disease) with an Ileostomy who can not eat seeds and nuts and fresh fruits and veggies but who has stage 4 ckd

is Alkaline water good for kidneys?
My Dr wants me to drink one of biotin powder with hot water every day for osteoporosis. I have stage 3b kidney disease. Should I be taking this
I am on a very low protein diet...high carb (60-70%) but lower fat...I do eat a few "white carbs" offset, however, by whole grains, esp. limited processed grains like oats and Wasa rye crispbread.
How to define unhealthy plant based diet? What kinds of food are in this diet?
Thanks Dr Hashmi for such an excellent information. I’ve always enjoyed your lectures.
Nuts increase protein load , I’m CKD 4.
Please advice which are best nuts to eat.
Thank you
pecans and macadamia nuts
Thank you doctor 👍
You are very welcome
Thanks.
Correction: resulting from weight loss but also during weight training...
Great question, let me do a lecture on this to help folks understand. No, its not all about the protein :)
Dr. is it good to sweeten food with honey?
Anytime youd add a sweetener to foods that aren’t unprocessed fruit will make ur health worse because no matter how healthy u believe them to be, theres no fiber to slow the glucose absorption
From the National Kidney Foundation: "Ask your health care professional if there are any special instructions to follow. You may need to avoid eating or drinking anything (except water) for several hours before the test. You may also be asked not to eat any cooked meat the night before the test. It can increase the level of creatinine in your blood and affect your eGFR results."
Thank you.

Would legumes/lentils/black beans cause hyperkalemia in elderly women on ARBs with 4.3 potassium levels before taking the arbs?
Difficult to say, need a blood test to see for sure.
I believe you said drinking water before a kidney test will increase eGFR. I did a google search and could only find doctors saying NO to that question. I tried posting a link but the entire comment disappeared!
Yes, if you drink a lot of water before the test, it will dilute the blood test and make it seem like eGFR is better than it actually is
@@SELFPrinciple Well, if that's the case, then not drinking enough water before the test would give a false lower eGFR.

"If GFR is low due to dehydration, drinking more water would increase the GFR.

Protein 8.3
Potassium 4.8
A1C is 7.5
Creatinine is 1.56

Protein Creatine is normal.
Why did my Nephrologist told me that 3 to 4 years now before I get into dialysis. And he also said that I should be thankful that on my urine test, no protein is found.
But when listening to you, as long as there is no protein found in urine, it’ll be more than 10 years before it’ll be really bad. I’m 58 going 59 female and diabetic for 12 years. Please let me know. Thanks

As long as the juice is UNSWEETENED.... sometimes I use one sweet and low and dilute it all 50% with water… It's just too tart !
No but cranberries are better :)
What would u call unhealthy plant base diet
Avoid things high in sodium such as the plant based meat alternatives and chips, oreos ect. Eat whole foods plant based, rice, beans, legumes, fresh fruits and veggies. Avoid highly processed foods. And everything in moderation.
Eat food the way God created it and that's it. Not messed around with. Have a balance

I take 2 egg whites daily , is that harmful to kidneys
No, but yolks have phosphorus which I only have sometimes
Thank you 🙏
Last year I had stage 3 kidney disease and in three months my kidneys went back to normal.

Dr. Fuhrman recomends a small handful of nuts every day. I put nuts on my salad or on top steamed vegetables.
Oxalates ... Spinach will kill your kidneys ..
Rubbish
Yes ,you are right , for some people it will not only kill your kidneys but your joints, eyes and other organs , but for other people don't, why? , we don't know and doctors don't care, since there is no money involve in knowing or treating it.
Not convinced by this, as many plants are rich in oxalates, which are the basis of kidney stones and rheumatoid arthritis. Animal proteins are superior to plant proteins, as they are more immediately available to the body.
One needs to study all foods they eat, reduce those with oxalates..
You need to break down long chains into individual amino acids so no, not quickly available. Also the body recycles amino acids up to 200 grams per day, so no worries about plant proteins being inferior. But the old theories are still quite popular, especially amongst carnivore enthusiasts.

Nobody in the plant based community says you shouldn't eat nuts, they all support them in a diet.
Not true, many in the plant based community say stay away from nuts and fat.
@@lw6323this is true. For example, coconuts they stay away from because they are generally harvested by slave monkeys.thats why you might see them listed as "vegan coconuts"
Dr. Esselstyn and Dr. Ornish have people not consume any nuts or seeds as well as oil.
