  • Episode 218: Low Protein Diet For Kidney Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease Stage 3. The topic of low-protein diets and their effect on kidney function has been a hotly debated topic among kidney specialists since the first randomized controlled trial on the issue was published in 1994. When all the published studies are put together, there seems to be some benefit to low-protein diets to slow the decline of kidney function for nondiabetics. Dr. Rosansky, the author of Learn The Facts About Kidney Disease, helps shed light on this in this discussion about a low protein diet for kidney patients with a focus on CKD Stage 3.
    📚 Purchase Learn The Facts About Kidney Disease by Steven Rosansky at go.dadvicetv.co...
    Learn The Facts About Kidney Disease by Steven Rosansky written for the average reader, offers useful information for patients with very mild Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) to those patients who need to plan for dialysis or kidney transplant. It offers scientifically proven ways to slow progression of Chronic Kidney Disease, including a chapter on a Smart Diet for all Chronic Kidney Disease patients. This diet not only can slow Chronic Kidney Disease progression but can also help patients to live longer and better. It offers the best treatments for the medical problems that can come with a diagnosis of Chronic Kidney Disease. For most patients this book will alleviate concerns about having Chronic Kidney Disease and for some patients with advanced Chronic Kidney Disease it offers an approach that can delay the start of dialysis for many months or even years in some cases. It explains why low and very low protein diets, promoted by many kidney books for patients, is usually not beneficial and may even be harmful. It provides the latest recommendations for treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease that comes from international kidney doctor organizations. The book is organized in a way that provides information for all patients with Chronic Kidney Disease in the first part of the book and has information in later chapters for patients whose Chronic Kidney Disease has progressed.

    I had kidney failure in 2016 due to puj obstruction. My right kidney failed and left kidney at 3%. I had a nephrostomy in my left kidney and 11 nephlologists got together to discuss my treatment. They all wanted me to go on dialysis except one. The one who disagreed came to my hospital bedside and explained why, he said 3% is still a chance and due to my age and the reason for my ckd he truly believed my kidneys will do better without dialysis. I agreed not to go on dialysis, within a week it went up to 9 then went up every 3 months. In 2018 i had a pyeloplasty surgery. The year 2020 my gfr was 46 and still at 46 in 2021. I do not have high blood pressure, diabetes or protein in urine but from last year i have been suffering with severe muscle and joint pain. Walking is hard and i can't just stand up and walk, my muscle and joints have become stiff and painful. I also have severe eczema, asthma, insomnia, anxiety and depression. I'm trying my best to hold it together but it has become very hard. I always pray for the nephlologist who disagreed with the other nephlologists.

    When Dr. R talked about 1+, 2+ and 3+ protein in urine, was he referring to just Albumin, or the Albumin/Creatinine Ratio? And I'm assuming 1+ means 100+, 2+ means 200+ and 3+ means 300+? Thanks for ANOTHER great show!

    • @thomashall2753
      @thomashall2753 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most dipsticks don’t tell you the type of protein only that it’s protein. I believe 1+ and 2+ aren’t that accurate only that it shows you have SOME protein and more than is normal (negative or trace). 3+ is I believe over 3g-5g but again it’s not an exact amount

      Depending on what you see on your next lab, you may actually be stable, fluctuating between 45 and 55 or so. Your eGFR will change a little throughout the day and you may have just got it on a higher reading, then a lowering reading. Your next labs will show if it really is trending down or just holding. As far as how serious this is, you need to take your age into account - this is something your doctor can discuss with you. In the meantime, focus on cutting any bad habits, staying active, managing your blood pressure, and eating heart healthy.

I am stable and am in stage 3 . But my question is . You said that our count of proteins is important in the urine . And I went to look at mine. In my urine I am in the normal count. Except I the 24 hour count then I go over. I am in another country so the figures are different, but does this mean I don’t need any medication to prolong life to eliminate any proteins...? In my blood I have over the normal limits proteins in my blood ..... ? So does this mean I don’t need those medications the Doc, mentioned...? Pls advice..if it’s possible .
