A Costly Mistake! | Last Chance Bargain Shopping for Antiques & Vintage

  • Have fun with us at the last huge outdoor show of the season! Mount Dora, Florida's antique extravaganza draws vintage fans from all over the country to buy, sell, swap and show off their favorite finds...including a few surprise guests.
    I'm here to sell and buy, so we start with a look at some really cool things under my tent that won't last long at this sale! We show what's selling and for how much, find a couple of great jewelry bargains at the neighbors' booths, and show a bit of the town as we head out for dinner and a show.
    Then it's the last morning of the show, when I get to go shopping for vintage bargains, too! Even on the last day, this show is so huge, it's easy to find things we can flip back at our booth for a profit. Everything from a copper fire extinguisher to Murano bead necklaces come to light, at prices that let us make them affordable for our collectors!
    We also get to show the fun behind the scenes, when Jeffrey from‪@RealNiftyVintage‬, Kat ‪@TheNurseFlipper‬ and Jocelyn ‪@CrazyLampLady‬ make surprise appearances! We didn't expect any of them before the show, so getting to show and tell the eye-popping items (and eye-popping deals) they've been finding at this show is a great sendoff. Antiquing in the real world is great fun, and sharing with my online friends makes it just that much more!

    Hi George! I grew up with several big crocks in our cellar packed with salt and pork. As any good Maine family would back then we had salt pork beans every Saturday night, with red hot dogs and my Moms angel biscuits. Which if you had room, could be crumbled and topped with molasses for dessert. My grandparents used to come either Saturday night or Sunday after church and whichever meal they missed was delivered by my older brothers.
    Mom sold almost everything out there at one time or another but she had significant success with Park Lane Jewelry. I think the sales level earners got various Lantern pins. So if you see those that was their ladder to success.
    I hope I don't annoy with my stories. But the memories just come rushing in. I think we must be about the same age, I'll be 59 this year.

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a wonderful story! It sets things in their place in time, in a way that takes me back there with you. Park Lane was another home party jewelry maker, but of what is now considered a little better quality by today's collectors. The Lantern pins sound very interesting and I'll look one up!
      I think the Park Lane territory was more in the Northeast. I am in my 50s as well, but I only recall Judy Lee and Avon on the West Coast.

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow! That was rather fortunate but that happens in the business, you deserve every one of those you get because you'll get a few lemons as well. Match safes are generally most valuable when they have scenes in enamel, and Sampson-Mordan generally did those on sterling, so they are popular

    • @TheAntiqueNomad

      They were utilitarian and had just a little ornament usually, not meant to be things of great beauty; but they’re also some of the earliest things made in America, and for a farmhouse decorator they’re a specific look to create a homey atmosphere.
