Thrifting an Antique Shop Filled to the Rafters with Vintage Treasures!

  • Lost in Afghan-istan?
A friend said I had to see this place, and he was right! Come with me as I discover Pedigo’s Antiques, an antique shop in Clarksville, Tennessee where you have to walk sideways through to see it all. They’ve been buying and selling vintage and antique wares since 1979, and this 40 year accumulation fills their two buildings to the rafters. There’s just not many like this left anymore!
This is not a place for the claustrophobic. Showcases teeming with European porcelain, Fisher-Price toys and elegant glass crowd together with piles of books, photos and even casserole dishes! I get lost in a room full of vintage linens, and climb the Afghan mountains.
A creaky door to the backroom reveals a wall of Pyrex, more records than most vinyl shops and a bin of orphan glasses that turns up $60 in value for a $6 investment. Since we narrowly avoided getting stuck in this massively stuffed room, I got to leave with them!
In the main room, a Victorian piano lamp vies for attention with true antiques, vintage glass and graceful dinnerware. A last minute find is a set of barware bottle stoppers that might just have to come live with me.
I hope my tour of this amazingly overstocked antique shop helps you learn more about antique and vintage items, and share my encounters with them in the real world. I love sharing our passion and this community, and how we help each other with our antique education.
Here’s some more of what I find:
1950s Dragonware lamp, Limoges dinnerware, Blue Ridge Pottery, vintage fashion and hats, vintage tablecloths, vintage embroidery, Peking glass, Glidden and Royal Copley Pottery, Bristol glass, Cranberry glass, Virginia Rose by Homer-Laughlin, Western knife, Fostoria American, custard glass toothpick holders, Fenton art glass, pie birds and so very much more!

You are the content missing on You Tube. Actually teaching and not focusing entirely on what I payed and what I can sell it for. There are too many crappy resellers picking up “vintage-80-90s labeled junk” and “so cute” decor with the promise of paying $.50-$1.00 per item and selling for $39.99 + free shipping. That is just getting old! When people find you, the channel should just skyrocket. Hang in there and persevere, I know you will make it! I have a very good feeling.

The crocheted afghans like the purple floral one you picked up, has way more than $20 worth of yarn in it. I crochet and people don’t realize how much yarn cost and the time it takes to make them. That was a beautiful afghan.

I am in Bardstown, Kentucky. The antique stores/malls are gone, leaving one mall left and up for sale. The online platforms, aging and dying collectors, have lead to the demise of brick and mortar stores here. I have a 40 year collection of flamingos (200+) Maddux of California, Brad Keeler, and yes- Will George. Amazing!

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  4 ปีที่แล้ว

I just was in Bardstown last month, and I noticed the new vendor Mall had better collectible stuff than I expected, I guess because the old malls are gone. I'm surpised a place with such historic significance can't support antiques and vintage collectives, but it's a commitment off time. I'm glad there's still malls around so I can do the Nomad thing!

Well...I missed the premier...too much going on today.
WOW!, that shop was seriously packed! I did spot one piece of Orange Tree - a blue mug, at 13:33...I'm still looking for those three pieces, and was pausing the video every time Carnival Glass appeared :-) I don't like the pattern in blue/amethyst, but the pattern did catch my attention.
I think Bristol is a sleeper, too. I really like Bristol, whether it was made in England or the U. S. I have a Bristol epergne, and a couple other pieces of it.
I liked the items you bought. Those bottle toppers would be a good start to a collection of them.
Maybe I can catch the next premier :-| If you ever do one live, you know I'll be screaming "Slow Down" a lot ;-) Looking forward to the haul video.

It was very last minute, I didn’t think I (or anyone else) would be free on Christmas to chat but our gathering wrapped up early, had a few viewers and it was fun! I’ll try to plan one where I can give more notice.
That shop was crazy full! I guess 40 years accumulation will do that. I didn’t see much Carnival though. I’m glad you see something in Bristol glass, it was kind of astounding to me that a filthy Swanky Swig was more valuable than a handpainted art glass urn, but I’m seeing younger collectors liking traditional again so maybe that will change. Meanwhile, I do like those quirky bottle toppers!

@@TheAntiqueNomad As for me, I'm always happy when the hols are over...worn out, but happy.
I wonder if they actually know what all they have in that shop. There could be an original copy of the Declaration of Independence in there, and they would never know it -- WOW!, that place was full! I have always liked Bristol glass. It almost has a "misty" look to it, and I've always liked that. That is really great that you're noticing the younger collectors are going for the traditional items again...as long as they don't paint the furniture pieces. Putting paint over all that fantastic wood grain is like putting Mother Nature in a gaudy body bag.
A person could get a collection of those bottle toppers going, and it wouldn't take up a lot of real estate...nothing like all the water, etc., sets I have... :-|
