  • CHEAP FINDS AT COLLECTOR ESTATE | VINTAGE BARGAINS | ANTIQUING
    Winding lost in the north Atlanta suburbs, we stumble across a true collector estate sale in the woods! From the moment we see the concrete deer and a great iron patio set, we know this 1960s house will be a good one! But behind its MCM exterior is a bevy of clocks, primitive and country furniture, glass and china, true antiques and vintage goods that include some real surprises!
    It's 25% off day at this sale, and that's a good thing! We see a sold sign on a great rococo mirror, but there's lots left to buy. While much in this antique-laden home is priced for its true value, we still manage ferret out the overlooked, underpriced and unpriced to create our bundle deal. Gentle eavesdropping on other people's purchases tells us that there's a nice bargain to be had if we choose carefully!
    We enjoy a lot of fun things, some elegant vintage and a few really unusual antique and country items that make this house a really fun look-see. Then it's up to the counter, where a nice list of good items is ours for under $40! From glee club canes to a truly unique piece of black Americana, we end up with a fun assortment to take from this collection to our own serious collector customers. Estate sales are fun!
    Here's a little more of what we see along the way in this video:
    Viking Epic flower frog, vintage books, Fostoria American, general store coffee bin, churns, Devon Cider jug, Florentine II yellow depression glass, Vernon Kilns Birmingham plate, shaker sets, fly cover, tin top kitchen queen, English cheese keeper, tulip carnival glass bowl, castor set, Johnson Bros. Autumn's Delight, Fenton compote, Victorian fast stand silver plate water pitcher, Weller variegated glaze vase, German shoe ad ashtray, balloon back chairs, cigar mold, Hall China for Sears fridge dishes, wood churn, porcelain quill pen inkwell/stand, Humpty-Dumpty child's lamp, Currier & Ives music box, water cooler lamp, console radios, marble mantel clock, cuckoo clocks, 1950s table top radios, American Eastlake bellows holder, circa 1900 hotel sink, Atari 800 complete set, mens ties, mens canes, brass/copper/iron hearth items, vintage fashion (including a sombrero!), 19th century tall case clock, Pan Am map, 1959 Ford record, pie safe, afghan shawl or runner, roll top desk/chair, signed Lenny Wilkens basketball, typewriter, sad irons, brass wood box, hanging scale, iron juicer, etc.

      It is hard on the families a lot of time. The thing is most sales get 98% resellers 2% collectors. If the prices aren't for resellers unfortunately most won't sell.

    Came and watched after the fact, still enjoyed it very much. I really appreciate your commentary and learn so much from it. Pendleton woolen products are interesting to me, since it’s close enough to where I grew up to feel loyalty to it. I toured the factory in the early 70’s with my FHA group. ( very loud working conditions, but fascinating)

You got good prices for the few things you picked up, but even half off my take is still too much money. Just by looking around it seems as though their kids who must be in their late 60's didn't want much. The tools alone would be a huge job to go through. I must not leave that much behind!

    I went to an estate sale today well after it opened. I'm all but out of business so I'm not really hunting unless I can re-sell to another dealer. Spent $20 including a roll of aluminum foil I had to buy anyway. Other folks did better. They had a pile of Beleek, priced not badly, that didn't budge. A pretty Art Nouveau vase in the ad was gone though. That's what's known as a clue.

    The way house sales work usually, is that the company gets a set amount by percentage 20% to 35% of what is sold. Then what is left is sold to a clean-out company. Many times they work with a company and get kickbacks on the bulk purchase, Many companies do not work for their ckients. It's sad,

      I went to a sale last weekend in an expensive neighborhood. There was a set of 4 heavy plastic bowls with the original HomeGoods sticker for 7.99. Guess what the estate sale price was? $12. They thought that just by sitting in someone's house for a couple years these plastic bowls increased in value by 50%. Or they assume their buyers are monumentally stupid.

    Hi George! I didn't make it to the premier, so I'm playing catch-up. Even when I lived in Atlanta, back in the 80's, there was constant construction going on there...I guess it will never end. There were a lot of items in that kitchen that really interested me, but the prices...as it is for Atlanta...were a bit out of a comfortable range. Loved the cheese keeper...except the price. That "Tulip" Carnival Glass ICS bowl was likely Dugan. The Dugan "Tulip" pieces can be difficult to find, so that price might be a good one...for a collector. I have several pieces of Dugan "Tulip" in Goofus Glass, and even those can be priced a bit more than just the "run-of-the-mill" Goofus. I wouldn't mind having the cigar mold. For me, I would've likely paid $50.00 for it, since I'm not a reseller. The bellows holder interested me, too. I spotted a cast iron kettle on that hearth. I've been wanting another one, after I sold the one I had. A ton of interesting things there. There were several items I might have actually attempted a negotiation with them. Thanks for the take-along!!!

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there! I'm playing catchup too, I missed a few of your comments but will try to get to them now. I agree with you that Atlanta prices can be steep, even though there are also bargains...it's a strange market in a boom town. Dugan made really good patterns, I need to see if there's an old reference book that elaborates on them. $50 is a good price for a collector on a cigar mold! I have two cast iron kettles in stock btw, email me if you'd like pictures

    No good belly warmer ties? That "butter mold" (mislabeled) is for separating the butter from the buttermilk. The buttermilk runs down to the lower part where the funnel like end is and pours into a bucket below. I might have that wrong because it might be to wash the butter (after the butter has separated from the buttermilk) until the water runs clear. I am into self sufficiency so have done a lot of research and have read about it.

    I don’t understand why estate sale companies price things so high; isn’t the point to get rid of the items for the owner? Wouldn’t it make more sense to price things lower or moderate and make sales all three days instead on the very last day at half off? Sometimes I think these companies over-price so they can buy it all in bulk for next to nothing for their own purposes at the end-scam.
