  • Golden Surprises! | JEWELRY & VINTAGE FINDS | ANTIQUE RESELLING
It's like Christmas all over again today! A morning call from a senior organizer in Saint Petersburg, Florida results in the sudden appearance of a dozen boxes of anything she thought was old and cool, plucked by her from the home of a client who suddenly moved to assisted living. We're relying on her eye, so let's unpack this freshly found antique and vintage stuff that we weren't expecting, and haven't seen until now!
What will be in there? We start with the heaviest, densest little box, which proves to be bags from the jewelry chest! Is there gold in them there bags? How about vintage costume jewelry? Let's look!
Another heavy box is filled with lots of fun little random vintage items from the desk drawers. Some of the best little stuff is crammed in the back of a desk...will we hit on something good?
Then it's Happy Unboxing Day! We discover it all together...how did our organizer do as erstwhile picker? There's lots of surprises in these boxes of antique and vintage gear...this cool old stuff is new to us, and will be fun to take to our upcoming Florida antique show season!

George, those blue things wrapped around the ceramics are not diapers. They are either mattress liners to protect the bedding or they are EXTRA large pet pee-pee pads. Either way, save them. They are great for wrapping breakables and they are expensive. A box of 100 regular size pet pads will run you around $18, if you're willing to shop around. And I can't imagine what a box of 100 mattress pads cost. Probably at least double. And they are twice the size of pet pads.
Just a little tidbit for you George.
Great things for your upcoming shows.
    XO 🐢

@@TheAntiqueNomad there's a few aesthetic differences I've noticed, also just what is considered vintage, collectable or antique, but I think it also depends on the budget people are willing to spend, seems pressed glass can get alot more money in USA than here and there are big collectors who will pay more for it . I see things that are cheaper here and actually technically antiques in UK selling very low but that would fetch several times more in the USA. I'm less knowledgeable on American ceramics, glass and jewelry makers. I'm on Instagram as myself or Aerial Antiques.

I have a few suggestions before you go! Please look with a magnifying glass and make sure of marks (makers marks on costume jewelry and numbers or K marks on gold). If you pre-sort a little, they will likely be more inclined to think you have some awareness of what you have, and you'll likely get a better deal. If you're concerned at all, I do appraisal work too.

Good evening, George! I hope you had a fantastic Christmas! All the best for your New Year! The Three Graces cameo necklace and the late Victorian pin/brooch are really nice. Hello and I hope you and yours had a great Christmas as well! I look forward to more fun together this new year. The cameo necklace was a big hit, I’m glad I showed it so I could gauge the reaction! I really like Victorian and revival jewelry too. The black on black has a mourning jewelry look, but the construction was definitely circa 1970. This was a fun video to record and fun to have you watch along, thanks!

    • @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS
      @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@TheAntiqueNomadLive
Does the time period a piece of black-on-black jewelry was made determine whether it would be considered mourning jewelry? Is it determined by the attitudes of the time period it was made? Queen Victoria had an incredible influence on views and culture, especially after Prince Albert died, when it came to mourning, so did mourning jewelry just become "fashion pieces" after her death? I'm curious about that. Fashion is definitely fickle -- torn/ripped jeans would've been thrown out or used as rags in the 1950s but can now be bought, new in the stores, ripped and torn. If a piece of jewelry from the 19C was actually sold and used as a mourning piece, is it still considered a mourning piece today? I know this is being nit-picky, but I'm really curious as to how a distinction is made.

Sterling Silver, when it is tarnished, it is the metal that is degrading and turning black. You can lose weight as well as the surface integrety. After cleaning, dry well and seal in a zip lock so it is not exposed to sea salt air or smog. You can also buy little strips of "Anti-Tarnish" Silver Tabs. Just slip one into each bag, it will absorb oxygen, gases and other hazardous chemicals. Most will insure a tarnish free use straight from your bag for up to 6 months.

Those blue things aren’t “diapers”, they’re Chux pads. Though often placed under a patient to collect leaking fluids, they work great as oil drip pads. I’ve used one under my antique sock knitting machine to catch oil drips. My husband has used them on the table when cleaning his hunting guns. They could even be placed under a small water leak. They are quite absorbent…..and clean-up is a snap.
I have that McCoy window box! I found it at Goodwill for $2.99. It was my lucky day!

Boxes and bags and Oh my. Jewelry wonk alert! Check those candlesticks, just in case. 07:00 1. sapphire ring, 2. GF and low-grade jade, looks like. 3. 1948 New York ring... should have a premium based on the design. Some New Yorker will want that. THe Gucci watch..iffy at best. 11:04 Mexican for sure. Classic design. Sounds like a pre-1948 mark, so it's older than you'd think. I forget who did the two-fisted bracelets. The carnelian bracelet - the shorter the older., generally. The New York pin is probably JJ (with one J reversed) It's their style - never have figured out who they were. (NOT Johnette) 17:07 NOT applejuice. Apple juice looks like apple juice. Rootbeer swirl probably. I generally use baking soda on a damp q-tip (and NEVER use a hot pin. Not ever). The q-tip turns yellow-brown and if you rub hard while holding the piece next to your nose and it stinks to high heaven, it's bakelite. You're smelling the formaldehyde It even works on the red, which simichrome doesn't reliably. Not much of anything works on the black. Other than a dremel.

I’m always appreciative of your knowledge when it comes to things like this! I plan to list the New York ring in my level two member bonus video, I agree it should do well. Someone else agreed the Mexican cuff is 1940s, I always equate the hollow pieces with 1980s so that was news to me. You are right that I said Apple juice when I should’ve said root beer, hopefully our viewers will see this comment! I’ve generally had good luck with someone but knowing there’s an alternative test for red pieces is great info. And no, black does not test unless you do it the harsh way!
