Never Shopped This State Before! New Found Thrifting & Antiquing

- It's all old--and all new to me! We're just down the block from the South Carolina state capitol, once the center of the Confederacy but now the center of a modern city with some antique and thrift stores full of not-so-modern goodies for us to discover!
West Columbia is today's destination, where a thrift store next to a big antique mall catches our eye! We start with a thrifting bargain hunt, where a Shawnee Corn cookie jar and a limited edition cat print demonstrate that there's vintage to be found cheaply here...we pick a pretty 1970s Franciscan flower power plate, then head next door to the main attraction.
"763 Meeting Street" is the name and address of the huge antique mall next door, filling four large chambers, former office spaces and the foyer of a 1940s warehouse/showroom with antiques and vintage from the past two centuries! An antebellum plantation bin and a handsome oak barley twist table contrast with displays of Russel Wright Melmac and Red Wing pottery, while a basalt glaze owl figure and a stunning 1920s Carlton Ware luster vase give us pause to consider.
This very stuffed antique mall has bargains for us too, as we pay special attention to spaces having half-off sales! A luscious piece of color-changing Alexandrite glass, a Rivoli rhinestone pin, the cutest 1970s piggy bank and a charming hand painted on black Italian ceramic bowl are all headed to the west coast with us for our shows and shops!
Then it's off to our last stop, a surprising National Park with some rather old specimens of its own! We love getting to see so many amazing sights as we travel the country to bring our collectors our very best, and the chance to share it all with you here.

Happy Birthday George!
Happy belated birthday 🎂
Happy Birthday tomorrow, George!
Thank you! Cheers!
Happy Birthday George!!!!! 🎉
Thank you!
Watched this to the end as always! Intriguing and educational! When one is 80, it’s amazing that there’s anything left to be educated by. 😂🤣😂
I'm so happy for that! I want people of all ages to realize how many great areas there still are for collecting exploration
There is always something to be learned no matter our age.I will never know everything and that is the wonderful thing about life!
My local antique malls are having "Christmas in July" sales.
elvis was from tupelo mississippi not missouri
🎂🎁🎈Happy Birthday @George The Antique Nomad 🎂🎁🎈
The Christmas sale could be for "Christmas in July"
🥂🥳Happy🎂 Birthday to u George!🥳Enjoy your special day!🎈🎉🎈🎂
I just love you. You have so much knowledge about so many things and it's fascinating. Everything you know should be put in some kind of book form. I have been watching you for the last two years and luckily today you are in the state I live which is South Carolina. Thank you for stopping at the park and sharing info about the swamp. Keep up the great work!
Thumbs up folks 👍👍👍👍
Christmas in July is a popular thing. I love Christmas no matter what time of year! I really like Russell Wright Melamine.
It just amazes me what a wealth of knowledge you have in your head. Good for us out here. Always makes me feel smarter when I’m at the thrift store or antique booth. Thanks for all you do! Me and a friend decided we should start an estate sale company. Your lucky I don’t have your phone number or I’d be asking you way to many questions. Hee hee!! You also have my fave laugh. 😂
Happy Birthday George May you be blessed with many many more 🎂🎉
I really like your shopping excursions and I love the travel logs, too. I’ll probably never see a swamp like this. Thank you for sharing with us. 💚💚💚
I loved the hike at the end! Thanks George!
I enjoy learning about good items to flip from your videos. The walk on the swamp trail was a fun bonus.
37:31 That turn signal is going much too fast! There must be a bulb burned out somewhere to make it tick so fast ...
Love going to the Congaree National Park!! You are literally a walking encyclopedia!! What a life you’ve created for yourself!! So happy you take us along!! PS… my granddaughter lives in that area…
Sliding in late Good evening everyone 🦩🌴🌞
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGE 🦩🌴🌞❤️🌻😘
We played whose got the button for hours in the street. We’d find a shiny one, and throw it…then look for it in the light of the street lamp. It seems simplistic, but it was fun, and kept us playing for long periods of time…just not in the day, the street lamp and dusk was essential to the game.🖤🇨🇦
Happy Birthday! Hope it's a fun filled one!
I hope so too!
I loved the hike! Very intetesting
Hello everyone 🖐🏾
JP Morgan on the gong show. Ya gotta be of a certain age to get that. And I am. 🤣
Lol yes that's right! I just saw her in a rerun recently so she was in my head
Thanks for showing us the park!
Happy birthday. I enjoyed the swamp walk. Sure wish there was some green Wedgewood at those inexpensive prices.
I like the nomadic tours. Thanks, George.
Thanks for the very interesting trip to the swamp , you make an amazing guide. ❤
🎉 Happy Birthday George! I hope you had a fantastic day! ❤️☺️
Good evening, George! That Kaiser vase was really nice! I really liked that. Those jars of buttons were interesting. I couldn't see if they were old ones or not, though. I like old buttons. I really liked that plantation storage box. That ornate corner shelf was fantastic! Too bad it had that damage. I could actually use that 1890s lap desk. I liked that oil lamp base, with the black base, that was above the purple ball vase. Loved the ball and claw lamp table. I loved that swamp! I'd like to have photos from the swamp to do watercolour paintings. Fun premier! Thanks for taking us along!
Happy Birthday, George!!!
Thank you, Mark! I did like the Kaiser piece a lot, and the plantation box seemed like a steal to me. I need a lap desk myself, hadn't thought about getting an older one to fit my laptop but that's a great idea. The ball and claw lamp table is what I imagine collecting if I did Victorian. If you want to take stills from the video to use as painting inspiration, be my guest!
Happy Birthday 🎉Hope you have a super fantastic day 🎉
Per Xeno, Happy birthday tomorrow George! You can have my piece of cake.
Hi George, i have never stopped in South Carolina. North Carolina is beautiful with such varied terrain and Georgia too.
I enjoy your videos
Love when you show where you are.
A fun video as always, George. Thanks for the national park tour during your hike, really enjoyed that too! 😊
“Disarming” 🤣🤣🤣
My stupid humor huh huh
LOVED the sunflower pitcher by Portmeirion and the walk over the swamp! THANK YOU, GEORGE!
I loved the walk through the swamp! Thanks!!
Very nice idea.
Honestly, how the dickens do you know so much right off the top of your head? It’s just a constant flow of makers, years, artists, regions, and miscellaneous facts about almost every single thing! It’s awesome and very impressive
Happy birthday, George! Thank you for brightening my day and illuminating the corners of my mind with fresh knowledge. You are aces.
Happy belated birthday!
Happy birthday George
Aww thanks! You're the first to mention it!
Love your channel and your extensive knowledge!
Not picking on you. Love all your work!!
Happy. Birthday.. another great show..thanks
Thank you too!
Your brain and vast knowledge is intriguing! I love learning from you!
great to get to see these different places and take these little side trips. thank you for sharing.
🎉🎉🎉
Thank you George. I always learn so much. I would bet the vendors sift through that thrift store pretty carefully. Buy junk and sell antiques. 😂
I’m not usually drawn to Fenton but that butterscotch piece is terrific! Thanks George.
Love your videos, George!❤❤❤
Happy Birthday George! Love your videos. Very Informative and fun!
❤❤ Happiest Birthday Wishes George 🥰🥰
Thanks Yvon! That's so sweet of you. I am terrible about remembering them, I actually didn't really think about my own or make any plans until viewers started wishing me so lol
Interesting tour. I appreciate all the information you shared. The history of the area is much appreciated. Thank you. 😀😀😀
Ahhh! The purse from Lansing !!! That is where I’m from!
Oh cool!
Pleasant video, George. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Oh it’s still nice to see you in my state !! So excited to see the places in Columbia I haven’t been there
Still waiting on the "George the Antique Nomad" hat calendar. Maybe 2024? 😊
Great idea! I would buy a few !
The LEAF dishes!!!
yes!
Happy Birthday George! You're my age now.
A great age to be!
Fun video George! Thanks for sharing!
That tour at the end was amazing. Thank you so much. Very interesting
Thanks George, enjoyed the tour and found the information interesting.
Thanks for sharing the swamp. Very different from the swamps in the Northeast! I love your videos, so informative!
Hey Xeno & George!👋🏻😁
This SC Tier 2 subscriber thanks you for coming to my beautiful state!
I was so glad to finally get there, if only briefly! Really enjoyed the park too
Having recently discovered you, I must say that my appreciation of you goes far beyond your videos. I've learned so much about new categories (outside my interests) but more importantly, the heart and integrity you bring to your industry. I just watched the piece you did about your mentor's collections, and I can only guess that it was a bittersweet experience for you. I'm sorry that you have lost your mother, but you left her a beautiful tribute.
Dave
That is just wonderful and such a thoughtful comment! I think she would be pleased that people are appreciating her collecting ethos
You are so funny George, and a walking encyclopedia. I really like the Cameo ware. You showed us a piece of that recently, I believe. Also liked the colorful bowl and piggy, but not the bottled shark so much. Do understand why you purchased, though. Great to have you here in my residing state of SC. The prices seem so reasonable in this particular shop for collectors. Happy Birthday to a fellow Leo. Hope yours was as great as mine! Cat
Rockin’ that hat, handsome!!
Lol thanks
I’d have said the horse brasses are from the 1800s as they were used to ‘decorate’ shire horses bridles when the horse was king for so many companies and of course used on farms
Correct you are about their origins, in fact I think they date back centuries. However, the castings on those were not good in the same way I would have expected of a truly antique issue, lots of flashing and not crisp
George you are always traveling everywhere and I enjoy seeing different places and different things. I know you should know that Elvis was born in Mississippi. I know it was a slip of the tongue to say he was born in another state but it was in the town of Tupelo. Just happened to catch this because my mother-n-law was born there too.
😁👍
Yep, I caught that also. He said Missouri. 😅
Enjoyed your hike ❤
Nice items to look through ! !
As always the tourist tour appreciated
Very interesting about the Australian copyright angle
Great prices on the Wedgwood
I thought the Australian story was of interest! I bought the Wedgwood ornament, the prices were just too low to resist
Thanks for nature HIKE ... I HV never bn in swamp land ... Neato jet👌
I just bought those RCA dog salt and pepper shakers in front of the corn - about an hour ago! And I would so wear that brown hat
Nice trip. thanks!
Happy Birthday George! I so appreciate you❤
I've learned more than a bit of what I know about American pottery from this channel. That said...wonk alert: 19:58 The clock was OK, but what about the vases next to it? Arts and Crafts /art nouveau trumpets. Probably chrome, but whatever. 30:30 My late dad's collection of those Barclay and Manoil soldiers were one of the first things I sold on eBay, back when you could still take checks and money orders. They sold for a LOT more than you can get now. 31:50 IIRC Royal Adderly made a ton of the porcelain flower jewelry, none of which sells now for any money. If you can sell it at all.
I remember the Cypress trees from FLA all the brackish water and the gators too. We used to go fishing near alligator alley but the gators would try to take our fish before we could get it up. lol Great trip and thanks for sharing and letting me tag along. You have a great day and safe travels.
And I thought my grandma and parents had all the Metlox patterns. What a joy to see soooo many more now ❤️
There were just a bunch, they were very prolific!
This will be fun
Great video George! Loved the hike. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, George! I'm glad you enjoyed that part too!
Very interesting show! Thanks for showing those trees!
You are amazing...have always wanted to visit here...thank you.
Enjoy all your videos. I learn so much from you in each one. Thank you!
What a great trip into Columbia, SC. I live just a "few" miles from Redwing. Every time I hear of the pottery I'm glad something good came out of MN. The swamp trip was very informative. The trees were no tall tails.
I noticed from other comments that it’s your birthday sometime in the last day or two! I wonder what is your age unless it’s too “nosy” for your tender ears! Hahaha! I’m asking only because I have a son who was born in 1964 on the 25th of July. I’m the viewer/subscriber that owned up to being 80 in an above comment. Here’s a HAPPY BIRTHDAY GREETING! 🍾🎂🥂🎂🍾
I'm 58 now! He's a year ahead of me. Thank you so much!
Venus didn’t think your dad joke was very hilarious,
It was bad, she had the right expression
Such neat information about the forest. This nemophilist approves. Thank you for sharing!!
I do really love the forest too! I didn't realize I was being a nemophilist about it...I never got to take Forestry in college
@@TheAntiqueNomad I’d say there’s always today, but you’re too busy for college. Nemophilist=One who is fond of forests or forest scenery; a haunter of the woods. So you probably are one. I know my health problems decrease when I’m out in nature, and forests “call” to me. I dream of an old cottage in the woods-filled with antiques, kitsch, owl lamps, and real kitties!
Really enjoyed this one. ❤
Thanks for all your videos. Enjoyed the state park also. 😊
This was really informative. Thanks.
Love that you shared the swamp!
Loved the tid bits at the se I always learn something new when watching you!😊🩷
Thank you! I like to share
Happy birthday!
Love learning from you! Oh, my Dad was stationed in Antarctica as well and ended up collecting penguins!
My favorite item was the Mrs Humpty Dumpty head vase. Thanks for a very informative video.
