    Before I even start watching the video - I have to share that I travelled across Japan for almost 3 weeks with only Ulanzi MT-79 and it was absolutely AMAZING. I used it as a tripod, selfie stick, extended it to record video from height in crowds... served me so great! I've used it for iPhone 14 pro in Smallrig cage, which was always easy to attach and remove.
    Would definitely recommend this product to everyone who is looking for something light to travel with!

    DUDE! I've been looking for a tripod like that for years! Long time Digital Nomad here... Been living the DN lifestyle since 2018 so congrats on being a new Nomad!
    I've been traveling the world with a huge Manfrotto tripod but 99% of the time, the product you just reviewed would have met my needs and I'm sure it's easier to pack and lighter! (2 big pluses for digital nomads!)
    Thanks for making this video... I'm glad TH-cam recommended it to me. I too have the DJI Pocket 3 and am planning on using it with the tripod as well.

    I use the ULANZI MT-34 which is 1/4 the price and even more compact & lightweight, albeit at a lesser max height.
    I only use my iPhone to take trave photos these days, though, no professional jobs. Since this is plastic, I'm allowed to carry it on board as part of my one-bagging kit.

    Excellent find! I've ordered one now too! I've been using an Amazon Basics tripod for the last year but it takes up a lot of space when i'm recording and it makes positioning camera to record my handheld gaming footage a real chore. I'll be able to use this not only for my mobile phone recording but also my new Insta 360 X4 recording and its a really long selfie stick too.

  • @barrylavallee
    @barrylavallee 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

    I have the ULANZI MT-44, very similar to what you are demonstrating here, except it has a ball-head too, which is very practical for reasons such as you explained. I needed something lightweight because I travel around with my gear by bike. I have more than six months of practical experience with it and in general I'm happy with the product. However there is one con that should be explained.
    The point of stabilization is at the base of the mast compared to most traditional tripods where it's at the base of the head. As a result a camera mounted to it, in my case the DJI Action 4, sways in the wind when using it outdoors, my main need. To compensate I often do not extend the last section near the top end, or sometimes last two sections if it's quite windy. If one needs full height then that becomes a factor in potentially having blurring media as it sways.
    I used it as a selfie stick for the first time about a week ago and it was great, easy to hold, and the light weight of it didn't cause my arm to get tired during a 5 minute video walk-and-talk recording.
    I suspect the sway effect would be even greater with a heavier device mounted to the head, something heavier than my DJI Action 4.

    • @DTSquared
      @DTSquared 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was about to say the same. The biggest issue on uneven ground is that this could fall over if extended more than a foot or so. Definitely only useful indoors or in level paved areas.

    • @eduardfastovski
      @eduardfastovski  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yep the MT-44 is great but it is too short in my opinion - only 109cm means it can never be at eye level if I'm standing up. If Ulanzi made a longer version it would be perfect.
      Good point regarding wind - I just got mine so haven't tested this. I did notice a difference in stability depending on which sections you extend, as you mentioned. I always try to use the thicker bottom sections and leave the thin top ones for last. That's the great thing about the MT-79 - I'm almost never using the full length so I can leave the thin sections closed and it's more solid. Thanks for your comment!

    Loved this video! I have a similar one but it was way cheaper. The material is not great but it does its purpose and it's lightweight. It is my travel go-to "tripod" and I highly recommend it. Never had any trouble getting it through museum's security. As long as it's inside the bag they don't care. Great video!

  • @TarrelScot
    @TarrelScot 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    That does look like a great travel solution. Not a substitute for a full-blown tripod for, say, landscape photography, but for travel / vlogging I think it looks great. Handy for occasional urban long exposures, such as light-trails, and time-lapses. 600g, which is a lot lighter than my Slik travel tripod and I love the compactness. Spec on the website says it has a load capacity of 1 kg. Really good point as well about the small footprint when used in the home studio.

    I have both the mt-79 is nice for something like a action cam and if you put a bag on the bottom stable to maybe 1.5meters of the 2meters but with a base of 30cm vs 100cm of the peakdesign it should not even be compared how stable things are. A nice $29 product but anyone who would use it as a replacement tripod for a real cameras is asking for trouble. Now its a nice solution for some edge cases, table top, small actioncams on max 1.5meter height. small lights and indeed kind of a monopod/selfie stick it can find its place next to your real travel tripod.

    That was a good video, informative, and a product that I might be interested in trying.
    You asked for feedback, so here goes…
    I’ve been a so-called ‘digital nomad’ for over 7 years now. When I see a review of an interesting product like this I want to know if it’s going to fit into my essentialist ‘carry-on only’ mode of transport - especially what length it folds down to (36.5cm) and how much it weighs (550g). I also want to know how much weight it can bear (1kg recommended) so I can determine if it can hold my camera. And finally, something about the stability when at full length with a camera mounted on top. I understand that it’s a lighting stand, which means stability is less important, but if we’re going to re-purpose it as a camera stand it would be good to know how it deals with a bit of wind when a camera is mounted on top, and whether I should even contemplate using it outdoors. Mounting it between the desk and the wall was a convincing solution to a common problem; in that application I’d like to know how long it would take for the wobble to settle after pressing a button on my camera, or whether I should be controlling the camera remotely. And finally, always talk to the lens not the display!
    Good luck with your digital nomad ventures. Aim for carry-on travel, you’ll never go back after that…

      On Ulanzis site it says the capacity is 1kg (2.2lbs), which isn't much compared to more serious tripods. It handles my Sony ZV-e10 easily and I still have to push down with some force to shorten it. So it's ok for most DSLRs and mirrorless cameras. Of course, if you want to use those huge telescopic lenses for nature photography and various add-ons you will need a more serious tripod like the peak design or Ulanzi F38 which handles up to 18kg! www.ulanzi.com/collections/travel-tripods/products/ulanzi-f38-quick-release-travel-tripod-3131?aff=1553

    Excellent. When you extend it, can you lock the length you want and it will keep. I'm getting a Pocket 3 too. Thank you.

    Have you tried using it with the Dji-Gimbal in the meantime? I just bought the insta 360 flow and am looking for something like that to film myself when I busk on the street. I am a bit worried it cannot carry the weight because it's just 30 dollars. What do you think? Thank for your review!

    I got the MT-44 because of the integral mobile holder.
