When you put the two side by side at the very end of the video, you could really see the differences with them closed. This part, along with everything else, was very helpful! Thank you for the video!
Only if MT 44 was a bit higher, it would've been the first choice, definitely. However, it still deserves more attention than MT 54. Thank you for such an informative comparison video.
As real estate photographer i was looking for a very light and small tripod to pack into my bagpack. As i shoot with a Fuji X-H2 and a Fuji 10-24 i see a big problem with the weight.
I received my Ulanzi MT 44 Upgrade today. It is better than the older shorter model, doesn't sink as easily & slightly more sturdier. I just don't like the head on that MT 54 if adding a ball head on top it almost as heavy as my Sirui 5 C traveller & it's much better tripod bit like your SK 04! This MT 44 I only use on mobile phones for city walks, they are so wobbly when fully extended! Some camera Apps like Even Longer you need a tripod to use it! Fantastic App by the way!!
Thank you for sharing your experience. Hearing it being sturdier makes me want to buy it even more as i already love the old model and the only reason i am not using it more is because of its limited height so these improvements are a huge deal!
@@Jameses I just placed OM 5 camera with 12- 45 Pro lens on top of it on five extensions(there are two more extensions) & it does not sink at all but on older model it was just too much! So it is much stiffer on new taller model!! On five extensions it is slightly taller than old model!
Just found your channel, you give a good review with concise and straight to the point. 👍👍👍 I’m on the comparison of SK-04 vs MT-54 vs MT-44. My Manfrotto is now too heavy to carry around and lately I’m more on my iPhone than my DSLR. Question: with iPhone at around 70% height and wind breeze, do the MT give the stability enough? Thx
Thank you, I try to provide videos that i personally would like to see. Yes, it definitely is. With a mobile phone, there is no issue at all. Go for it!
Thanks for your honest reviews. I actually thinking of buying MT54 because I’m a taller person. HAHAHA! I’m kinda confused because there’s no headball on it :( so I need to buy another item for it.
Another great video. Just a pity Ulanzi didn't give the modified MT-44 a new name. Of course, if buying directly from Ulanzi that wouldn't be a problem, but many folk will buy from 3rd party sellers, like Amazon, so it would be easy to end up with an 'old MT-44' rather than the newer model. Retailers will be vague, wanting to get rid of their old stock. Regards from the UK
I totally agree, seller got upset on eBay because I sent a message to make sure getting the new model ! Funnily enough I also paid less for the new model, original shorter one was more expensive?! New model is really better built but looks exactly same & have few more sections, slightly more heavier!
@@AureoMartelli Yes, retailers are going to try to get rid of their old stock and having the same name, this will be easy, especially as many buyers won't know there is a new version. A simple name change by Ulanzi would have prevented this confusion.
True! It is really tricky, so best i would say is go straight to ulanzi official page or check the shop's description to make sure it reflects the new length and not the older one.
hey james thanks for the review does the telescopic pole of the mt-44 retract if the camera weight load is too heavy, like if I have a full frame camera with mics etc ? I hear you mentioned that there's a twist lock at the bottom but from what I can gather it only locks the tripod feet in place is that right? Thanks
Thanks James. Great review as always. I should be getting the MT-44 new version which is longer. Saw on Shopee for $29.90. ⭐️ Next question is regarding those flexible mounts that you can wrap/hang around something when you can’t place the camera on a flat surface. I think it’s called octopus or gorilla or something. What do you recommend?
Glad to help! I would recommend the Ulanzi MT-11, Joby is good and reliable but it is twice as expensive. But do really consider if you need it. For me i use it for the first 3 months, now I hardly find the use for it.
Hi James. At minute 8:12, you placed the phone horizontally on the MT44. I would like to ask, if i were to place my phone vertically, will this tripod sink? Or will I be able to lock my phone vertically at a good 90 degree angle throughout the time I shoot a video? Meaning....as i shoot long videos, will the vertical angle begin to drop from 90 degrees to smaller degree angles? Thanks!
Hi, the MT-44 will not sink unless it has a heavy load on it which a phone isn't. Unless you plan to attach a huge light or microphone on it, it will be fine.
SmallRig is more expensive and doesn't seem to be more superior in materials, unless you are getting something only SR has, Ulanzi will always be my prefered.

@Jameses , Thank you for your time and a good idea too. It looks robust for an MT-79. Because the rod that I used can extend 1.5m, I am afraid if I mount together with MT-54, it can reach to the height of a coconut tree 🌴 😃 😀. I just kidding, buddy. Be happy and tqvm.
