Actually, quite a lot of those supposedly expensive tickets were sold at a steep discount to put it into an affordable range. This marketing trick was used to pull in as many suckers as possible, making them think that they somehow bought a luxurious vacation package for a cheap price.
Alot of them weren't rich. Most paid like $2500, which if you looked at the package they bought, was actually a really good deal. That's about how much someone would spend on a vacation.
Imagine paying 1000's of dollars to sit in a lawn chair next to a fold out table with plates of crafts singles sandwiched between 2 slices of dry wonder bread.

That dude probably could’ve brought Elvis back to life to perform if had had enough time.

It's funny, because the Fyre Festival scam actually worked for the When We Were Young festival. A show that was announced without any of the artists actually committing to it. But it worked, each artist saw who was supposedly going and committed to going themselves at that point. While the first date last year had to be canceled due to the weather, the next date went off without a hitch and now this year is bigger than last year with both blink-182 and Green Day genuinely headlining. We only know this started as BS because Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio (and briefly, blink-182 there) confirmed as much. Definitely helps that they didn't try to put the When We Were Young festival on some "private" island. Keeping it somewhere like Vegas that already has venues setup was definitely the smart way to approach this kind of scam. Which I guess ceased being a scam in that case. This however, this will never have any major acts show up. He burned all his bridges in that regard.

The issue inevitably arises when the promises don't equal the result, and whether it turns out to be a scam or not depends on what the organizer(s) do at that end time. It just turns out that the average person willing to actually go that far with these project ideas realize that they can't actually afford what they promised, and they choose to dip with the revenue instead of going into debt themselves actually refunding people. When the options become "go into insane impossible to pay personal debt doing the right thing" and "just walk away and pretend it never happened(and that you didn't effectively just scam/defraud people)", most of these idiots choose the latter.

I feel like this is who it’s truly aimed at. An extroverted person/someone that has a decent amount of friends would look at this and understand that it’s not something they need. But a lonely, introverted, depressed person would buy into the hype hook, line and sinker. Being someone who used to be the latter, I would’ve felt tempted only by the fact that it would’ve given me the possibility to meet people I could connect with and to feel like I’m “living” my life for once. But that IS how he did it last time, the average price people paid for tickets was around $1200. Part of the reason the whole thing was a clusterfuck was bc there wasn't enough money to pay for what was promised.

The music festival business is really tough. We used to have this big festival in Australia New Zealand called the Big Day Out. Huge bands would come from overseas and it would sell out quickly every year. Despite that, it still ended in 2014. Even if you are doing it properly, music festivals are really difficult to make financially viable. I think the odds are sadly stacked against Fyre Festival 2.

I showed a documentary on the festival for my sociology class and students wrote reactions. The best was from a student who was learning English, who simply said people with a lot of money, will do dumb stuff to impress other people with a lot of money.
I don't have a doctorate in sequels, but I'm fairly certain you have to make the first one actually HAPPEN in order to make/hold a second one. At least, traditionally. Scammers are just not even trying any more, but this shit is somehow still working.

Honestly, I would not be surprised if they are lying about those 100 tickets being sold. They might have said that just to try and drum up urgency, sort of like those "130 people are viewing this item" things on online stores, "Limited Time Only," "Limited quantities available!" etc. Or maybe its them scalping their own tickets. Maybe both.
What about the local people actually working on the first one though? The ones shown in the documentary who lost money? Like I loved the memes and obviously I had a good chuckle at the original mess myself, but I'd rather not have anyone else (besides ticket buyers) scammed.

I had friends at fyre. They owned a drone company and they were going to scan the island. They got to go for free and it was pr for them. I got to hear first hand what a collasal shit show it was. It's funny, because the Fyre Festival scam actually worked for the When We Were Young festival. A show that was announced without any of the artists actually committing to it. But it worked, each artist saw who was supposedly going and committed to going themselves at that point. While the first date last year had to be canceled due to the weather, the next date went off without a hitch and now this year is bigger than last year with both blink-182 and Green Day genuinely headlining. We only know this started as BS because Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio (and briefly, blink-182 there) confirmed as much.
Definitely helps that they didn't try to put the When We Were Young festival on some "private" island. Keeping it somewhere like Vegas that already has venues setup was definitely the smart way to approach this kind of scam. Which I guess ceased being a scam in that case.
This however, this will never have any major acts show up. He burned all his bridges in that regard.
Making up a festival so absurd that you somehow manage to make it real is one hell of a power move, I honestly respect whoever organised it at this point, if it starts as a scam but becomes real and you stick with it then nobody lost anything

The issue inevitably arises when the promises don't equal the result, and whether it turns out to be a scam or not depends on what the organizer(s) do at that end time. It just turns out that the average person willing to actually go that far with these project ideas realize that they can't actually afford what they promised, and they choose to dip with the revenue instead of going into debt themselves actually refunding people. When the options become "go into insane impossible to pay personal debt doing the right thing" and "just walk away and pretend it never happened(and that you didn't effectively just scam/defraud people)", most of these idiots choose the latter.

I feel like this is who it’s truly aimed at. An extroverted person/someone that has a decent amount of friends would look at this and understand that it’s not something they need. But a lonely, introverted, depressed person would buy into the hype hook, line and sinker. Being someone who used to be the latter, I would’ve felt tempted only by the fact that it would’ve given me the possibility to meet people I could connect with and to feel like I’m “living” my life for once.

The music festival business is really tough. We used to have this big festival in Australia New Zealand called the Big Day Out. Huge bands would come from overseas and it would sell out quickly every year. Despite that, it still ended in 2014.
Even if you are doing it properly, music festivals are really difficult to make financially viable. I think the odds are sadly stacked against Fyre Festival 2.

I had friends at fyre. They owned a drone company and they were going to scan the island. They got to go for free and it was pr for them. I got to hear first hand what a collasal shit show it was.
