My grandparents had a gambling addiction when they were young. They said that the hotel would give them free rooms and food just so they would come back and spend more money. This addiction is hard to get rid of because unlike alcohol and drugs, gambling is strongly encouraged by the media. I agree. Especially if we compare this to say Logan Paul’s recent apology for Cryptozoo, Logan Paul blames everybody but himself where as this guy only blames himself. Logan Paul doesn’t take any accountability for his own actions that led to the scam because even though he didn’t make any money he is the one that orchestrated the whole situation that allowed this scam to happen in the first place. Where as this guy admits his own actions specifically and his own faults. Obviously not a great dude but I have hope he can redeem himself based on just this apology since it is a pretty good one.

My dad had a horrible gambling addiction. Like so horrible he would steal money from his job and leave me (around 2 or 3 at the time) and my brother (probably from 0-1) in the car and gamble for hours on end.
After a lot of messy stuff it ended up in a huge fight that I witnessed and we now have a broken family. Dad finally got the help he needed but honestly it was too late. He can only see us (me, my brother and sister) every second weekend and Nanna (his mother) hates and blames him for everything.

I bet there were many crypto skeptics who invested in his projects since he seemed like a safe bet if that's something you were interested in getting involved in, glad i wasn't one of them. I hope he get's the chance to indemnify all the investors he screwed over before being tossed in jail but there needs to be more oversight with these types of projects, just the fact that one single person would have access to these funds and be able to literally gamble it all away is absolutely insane

Making amends to the people I hurt made my recovery stronger. Idk how he will be able to do that for all the people he hurt but it would make everyone feel better.
Edit : When I said I'm not responsible for my addiction I mean I didn't choose to become addicted to alcohol. Nobody chooses to become an addict/alcoholic. We may have to chose to pick up the first drink but we didn't have a choice after a while. I never meant to say that addicts shouldn't be held accountable for their actions. Sadly, people likely wont get their money back, but what you said is correct: its sad he has this problem but it doesn't wipe accountability. Holding compulsive gamblers accountable is part of their recovery, actually.
Odds are the group he mentioned is GA (Gamblers Annonynous) and they are...usually pretty good at helping with that.
But, sadly, many cases like this also end in relapse. Something bad happens and they want help in the moment, but after a few days or weeks they fall right back into their old habit once the heat settles down...

This is insane. This is the same to me if Charlie was to be outed as a scammer. Wtf... I used to join CSGO twitter giveaways, and then I ran into DNP3 about 3 or so years ago. He was on top of the giveaway game. He is like a programmer/coder, a really capable fella. Used to call out scammers, ban them... used to have fun streams, he was giving away money, PCs... And all of it was legit... he even coded some sites for giveaways to make it automatic and it all worked and was legit. Really was professional and seemed genuine, not like the Paul vibes where you can see in his eyes that he is a scammer... never in a million years would I have thought... he gave away well over $200,000

@@linkly9272 yeah but from what i remember he was a retired programmer, who had multiple businesses... Then he made those giveaway sites, which you would buy, lets say you want a $50 twitter giveaway it would cost you $75 dollars, so the 25 would go to him for service... He used to follow trends then, with crypto and nfts after. Thats when i stopped following giveaway twitter... Thats why he probably did genuinely got addicted and spent someone elses money, which i dont really see as a scam rather than just stealing... As if it wasnt premaditated... We have a saying here "opportunity makes a thief" so it got the better of him... Im not defending him in the slightest, im just saying it all didnt start with an idea to steal or scam, it just got out of hand.... He is around 40 i think

I think the fact that virtual casinos usually treat your money as "just numbers" intentionally makes people a bit numb to the fact they are loosing a lot of money, shrugging it off telling you that you might've lost some money but that you can make more if you stay in.
Meanwhile some physical casinos handle the chip system or actual cash making people a bit more careful about what they are loosing since it's right there
