      Hey man love your channel but I have a question , I know that Finasteride takes at least 3 months to show results but should the hairloss get stabilised after first taking it ? Or is it possible to continue to thin at first and then stabilise ? Because I had been taking Finasteride for 2 months and the thinning isn't particularly stopping it might be slowing it down though I'm not sure , or is it just not strong enough for me ?

    • @letsgethair

      @@Castromany it is possible to thin at first (especially by guys who get initial shock loss). Some guys don´t get it though. You´ll know better after 9-12 months.

      I'm 53yrs old. I started shedding hair when I was 21. It shook my world. I'm very thin on top. I've kept baby vellis hairs throughout my scalp for years due to on and off treatment over the year's. Now I'm using a dr pen micro needle set at 1.5mm. I bought loticane and apply to my scalp to numb as much as possible. I needle entire scalp til it's slightly bleeding. First I use alcohol on cotton pads to clean scalp of oils then needle. I wipe treated scalp again afterwards with alcohol again. 10-15 minutes later I apply minoxidil on scalp. About 4-5 hours later I apply coconut cooking grease. It's in a plastic container bought from Sam's. Just a finger dipped in and rubbed on scalp for moisturizer. Coconut organic oils are great on dry scalp from using alcohol to cleanse scalp. I have a laser comb and laser devise to help regenerate regrowth 3-4 times weekly. I also use a high frequency wand that emits a mild stimulating shock to scalp. Google high frequency scalp stimulation. I started finasteride a couple days ago. 3 months supply using goodrx pharmacy card cost me 89.00. 3 months!! I take saw palmetto and biotin also daily. Yes I'm hitting male pattern baldness hard. I see alot of white vellus hairs coming through. Being I've been balding for over 35yrs. I don't expect a miracle. I'm confident in who I am. I look at all the cripple people in the world. Children born with no limbs. Cancer patients. I'm blessed beyond blessed. But, if I can get half of what I lost. I'd be thrilled. If I can be of help. Email me.

    I've been applying a 0.5% topical finasteride and 3% minoxidil solution to my scalp twice a day for 4 months and mirconeedling for 1 and a half . I was shedding about 20+ hairs when shampooing ( I take a shower every morning) and many throughout the day before using it. Most of these hairs were small hairs (3cm or less) even though the hair on the top of my head is quite long. I also have some recession of my temples, my hairline itself has not gone back so much but the temples are miniaturised. (In general my hairloss is not that bad I'd say I'm a Norwood 2). Now after 4 months I have seen no improvement and I'm shedding the same amount of hairs if not more. (This morning I counted 30 more or less.) I have now started oral finasteride (1.25 mg per day). I'm 20 years old and I started noticing my hair loss at 18. I have a good bunch of before and after pictures I've taken over this time. And id say my hairline has receded about 1cm over this time period. Any thoughts on this?

    • @RegensDominor
      @RegensDominor 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@pod7062 It's false to say that oral finasteride is flat out better than topical. Topical finasteride is at least as effective as the oral version which studies have shown. It's all about lowering the level of DHT present in the scalp. By applying finasteride directly to the treatment area more DHT is suppressed compared to systemic suppression. Topical finasteride can also be combined with minoxidil which is an added bonus.

    • @pod7062
      @pod7062 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RegensDominor Hey. Agree, oral fin is not “flat out better” - if you read my comment I did not say that, although understand is could be taken this way. Do you happen to have the references to the studies you mention? Would be interesting to see as I’ve not seen any that state topicals are better. However, I do believe oral fin is superior at moment but willing to change my mind. Application of topical is an issue in my opinion, consistency of placement on the same areas, incongruent absorption to the skin and less convenient hence more often missing days etc. Plus most people’s hair loss will to some extent effect all hair on the head, I.e the sides and back will decrease in density with miniaturisation occurring which, unless you are covering your entire head with topical will not prevent. Pills are easy to pop. I understand both lower DHT. I agree minoxidil can be combined for greater efficacy. I’ve updated my meds since my original reply. 1mg oral fin, 0.65mg oral minox both daily and 0.25 mg dutasteride once weekly. What’s your protocol?

I will advise that you should try finasteride for a year first to see if it works, if it works then no need to use dutasteride. If the finasteride isn’t as affective then you can switch in a year time to dutasteride. Don’t use it every day though. Use the dutasteride 3x a week for the first 5months then if you don’t have side effects you can then use it every day. Dutasteride blocks 90% of your DHT while finasteride blocks 70%. I wouldn't trust any of these pics. I'm not saying they're not true, but I think it's important to have realistic expectations. If Fin stops stabilises your condition, I would take that as a win. Anything on top of that is a bonus.
    These pics are used for marketing and sales purposes...assuming that they are genuine and haven't been photoshopped or manipulated with lighting, they will have chosen the best candidates...some may be 'super responders'.

      The only generic version of Fin I would bet on is PROSCAR. It´s like Propecia for prostate. I have talked to many docs about it who also use it with their patients, and even for themselves. It´s cheaper and has the same efficacy. Maybe you have also noticed that in this before and after section of Dr Bernstein. Some of his patients were taking 1.25mg (obviously they were cutting Proscar in 4 pieces). I heard about the low quality of generic Finasteride but these were mainly the 1mg version pills.

    Great series of videos about hair loss meds Matt. The high resolution photos are a great resource to evaluate the results. I wish the styling & length of before & after hair was identical in every photo but I realize in the real world that's not always easy to capture and a some of the photos do show that apples to apples type of comparison. I'm tempted to get back on Finasteride but I have had a lot of body hair transplanted to my scalp. I'm concerned the Finasteride will limit the growth of that because I heard body hair actually benefits from DHT. Anyone noticed Finasteride reducing your body hair? I am also taking oral minoxidil 5 mg daily so that might counteract that effect if any.

    It is pretty evident that the more hair you have when your start, the better the results. I am not sure why anyone would take more than 1 milligram a day as the data shows that that is the max for optimum results, especially for safety for long term use.
