This is the most sensible, balanced discussion of Finasteride that I've ever seen. If I'd seen this 10 years ago maybe I'd have gotten over my fear of the drug and started taking it when I had more hair to save!
@Naveed Ahmed I took my first pill 3 hours ago, I’m nervous as hell haha. 25 with minimal hair loss but starting to recede, using rogaine 2x a day, and 3mg of finasteride a week. I swear to god if my dick breaks 😂😂
@Naveed Ahmed haha well everything seems normal except I did not wake up “happy” like I usually do. But it hasn’t been 24 hours, and that’s the only “negative” thing I can note, and I can’t even say that’s attributed to finasteride. Hope it all works out, within 3 months you’ll see some growth im sure of it!!
@Naveed Ahmed Well, I took my second dose, and everything has been normal, I don’t notice any side effects so far, but it’s still very early. Are you using topical minoxidil or oral?
Been using 3mg a week (taking 1 mg Monday Wednesday and Friday) for the last 6 months with no noticeable side effects and thrilled with the results. I have been contemplating taking finasteride for the last 10 years but would never have started this drug if it wasn't for your channel and professional advice with scientific evidence backing up what you were saying. Many many thanks. I'm sure there are millions of guys like me out there who haven't found you yet but would follow suit upon hearing this video. Keep up the outstanding work. Anyone else out there taking the same dose? Write you results below.......
@@simpslayer4793 hey It's been more than 3 months I took my first pill on 19th Jan 2021 First I was taking just 1mg/ every other day but when I got confident about that I'm not having any kind of side effects and all so from mid Feb I started to take 1mg/everyday No side effects luckily 🙏 No hair fall Volume and density of my hair increased significantly My meat is working better than ever 😂 Overall I'm happy 🔥
@@TheHairLossShow I'm confused. You guys kinda contradict yourself You said no need to take 7 mg a week and 3 mg a fine but then say it's probably not doing anything. Is taking 2 mg a week worth it or not? Bc that's the most my body can handle.
This channel is invaluable. Honestly I used to panic over potential sides after taking just 0.5mg everyday but 3mg a week is actually working really well for me. We need professionals like these guys in our lives. I had a consultation once and was given terrible advice. I was advised against finesteride and was recommended to start laser therapy and then a transplant in future, with no realistic explanation as to how to maintain existing hair. I’ve really learn a lot from these videos :) so thanks for your hard work!
i got recommended the same thing. Lazer and minoxidial and eventually pressured into a FUE transplant. I don't think Finasteride was even offered to me
I got recommended PRP. Its just greedy derma people trying to line their own pockets. Actual treatment for male pattern baldness are cheap. Min + Fin + ketoconazcole. That's it
Kevin Mann's is one of the best and he's certainly the most knowledgable who does a lot of in depth research and tests out a lot of the newer treatments himself. He's obviously not a Doctor though.
This is the best channel on TH-cam IMO for advice on finasteride usage - two professionals covering all kinds of information about finasteride. Here at 10:10 they're even talking about the cost-saving finasteride dosing practise of splitting a 5mg proscar pill into quarters - Clearly these guys aren't affiliated with Merck if they're showing us how to dose finasteride on a budget (As well as the MWF weekly dosing routine they have previously recommended, which goes against the excessive daily Merck dosing recommendation) 🙂 So much knowledge freely shared. Thank you! (I just wish I had started this medication half a decade earlier!)
@@kevinwilson3337 No. Different cause and mechanism of action. AA generally resolves on its own. You can inject steroids into the lesion which has shown to be beneficial.
I can't give you guys credit enough and praise you enough for your shared knowledge. As a 32 year old male (starting to bald), who is about to start to taking the medicine, this information is worth so much. Thank you guys, alot
This is exactly what the Companies don't want the public to know. Otherwise their sales would be cut by half. They want you to take a finasteride pill every day for the rest of your life, and now we know that that is not really necessary.
I wish your TH-cam channel was around 10 years ago. I would have a lot more hair because I was hesitant to take Finasteride because of the side effects. When I started Finasteride 3 months ago, I experienced brain fog but no sexual side effects. Now, I have reduced from 7 days a week to 3 times a week. It seems my brain fog has gone away, and I haven't noticed any more or less desire for sex. Thank you for your recommendation!
I started taking finasteride yesterday and I am skeptical and worried about dosage, frequency, and side effects. Not anymore! You guys are the best. You made it easy for me to just cut the pill into quarters and take it 3x per week. I really appreciate your effort in making these super helpful videos. Wish you the best! and KEEP IT UP... WE NEED YOU!
I'm a woman with post-menopausal overall hair density thinning and miniaturization that occurred over a 3 year period. So gradual that it took me awhile to even notice what was happening until the volume loss began to seriously impact hair styling. I've been using minoxidil for 6 months and so far, so good. I recently added finasteride. My doctor prescribed 1mg per day. So far, no side effects. I got a second opinion on the dose from another doctor and was told that anything less than 5mg is not an effective dose for a woman. Both doctors are board certified dermatologists who specialize in hair loss. If 1mg per day truly is insufficient for a woman, I may be wasting valuable time. What has your experience been in your practice with respect to effective finasteride dosing for women?
Are u still taking finasteride? I'm post meno. Doc wants me to start on 1 mg. I'm so scared. Worried it will build up in my liver and I don't have a gallbladder.
I think that women need more finasteride than men. A study talked about 5 mg a day for women but it has to be confirmed. Spironolactone is more prescribed for women.
I really like these guys. Both very knowledgeable, likeable and are not trying to sell us anything (the opposite really ) I've been on 1mg Fin for 2 years, started aged 48 and can honestly say my 2" crown bald patch is now only slightly noticeable and the over all density it thicker. No side effects for me but I reduced to 1mg every other day a few months ago and all seem good! Great channel!
@@Olyrous Hi, Everything is going well. I have been on Fin now for just over 5 years.. I must say that I only used 1mg every other day for around 4 months and then I started cutting my tablets in half, 0.5 mg everyday the effect is still the same. If I hadn't taken action even as an older guy I am convinced I would have much less hair. My Finasterade are just generic
This is a good informative hair loss channel. There is a lot of TH-cam hair loss channels hosted by mouth breathers who have no idea what they are talking about.
Finasteride has such a flat dose response curve that if someone says they got side effects at 1mg per day and none at .25mg per day than the side effects they were experiencing were all psychosomatic.
I got sides within a week starting at ~0.625mg (split the 5mg into 8 lol). I wasn't even expecting it, I was feeling confident in my body's ability to overcome it but alas...my sides got a bit better overtime though but still persist.
@@astwas What were the sides? And I don't know if I would risk it. I came across a doctor saying that in all honesty he couldn't prescribe fin to people because we just don't have the data behind the side effects, especially in the long term. It might induce dementia in longterm users for all we know.
@@LordJagd All the things to do with the your noodle lol. Watery mayonnaise, went straight to 0 morning noodles but few months later it came back but is rare, sometimes shooting pain in the lemons, and just reduced "hunger" overall
I have read that not taking it daily will affect your hormones. There will be spikes in the bloodstream of introducing, stopping and then re-introducing the pill into your system every couple of days. Remember, the half life of finasteride in your bloodstream is short, so by taking it every other day, your hormones will go up and down constantly, as opposed to taking it daily, and thus regulating your hormone profile.
I'm impressed with the approach both the doctors have taken (based on scientific evidence). I've started 1mg Finasteride every alternate day (Mon, Wed, Friday) since a month along with Minoxidil 2ml per day (since 2017), Ketoconazole shampoo hair wash 3 times a week and dermarolling (0.5mm) twice a week (8-10mins/ session) done by myself. I Did see a good improvement in my hair thickness after I started Finasteride including new hair near my temple area which was completely barren. I also noticed my existing hair has thickened up. I did encounter shedding of hair while taking hair wash but I believe that was a positive sign to make way for stronger hair. I have absolutely no side effects!
@@alwaleed5190 yes you can begin with EOD, as I've seen a decent amount of thickness on my existing hair and slight regrowth near the temple areas on both sides.
This is hands down the best information on hair loss I have ever seen. Thank you so much. There is so much trash out there and so hard to gauge what is correct and what is misinformation. Love this.
Thank you Dr's. I am 54 and just started taking the medicine. On the 6th day, depression really kicked in. I completely stopped using the drug. I'm thinking I was overdosing. After listening to your great advice, I may try 1mg per week to see if the side effects stop.
@@SonyCamry yes the depression stopped. After listening to Dr Vik and Dr Russell saying only a trace of finasteride is needed to control DHT in the scalp, I'm now taking .5 mg twice a week. I'm hoping this will do the trick.
I'm 57 yrs old. Been balding since 19. Started rogaine in 1989. Had success slowed hair loss and some growth. After 20years was losing the battle. On Fin for 2 months 1 pill every other day. Starting to see and feel the hair is more healthy. So far no side effects. I wish I started early but was scare of the side effects, If you are young and losing your hair. Try it to buy as much time you can. Hopeful in a few years something new can work.
I agree! I was also afraid to start it because of all the talks about sexual side effects. Dr Vikram and Dr Russell have helped me to understand that it's VERY rare and it will stop when you stop taking it. I got hung up on those "people" online who said that their side effects continued long after stopping treatment. After educating myself by watching the videos on this channel, I feel confident in taking it now, knowing that the doctors have never actually seen proof that the post-finasteride syndrome actually exists. They talk about it here th-cam.com/video/QxTtGsj1nWk/w-d-xo.html
You guys are great. Genuine and always looking to help others with specific information and logical opinions. I cant wait to recommend this channel to my future son when he is losing his hair. :)
I had huge problems using 1mg a day of finasteride, maybe its too much at the same time so I will follow this advice of times a week, it will be my final attempt with this medication
@Alejandro Santa It absolutely destroyed my libido, my workouts weren't progressing anymore, I had some bad depression and anxiety episodes I tried the 1mg twice a week but was still terrible I stop completely a month ago and i'm still recovering, my libido is still very low and Im having no erections at all
@@Filipe6090 No, you cannot be 100% sure it was caused by finasteride unless you did a controlled experiment ruling out ALL other factors and variables (external and internal).
Just a litle comment on the logic of the response curve ("DHT inhibition curve"): In order to make sense, the dose [mg] has to be on the "x- axis". Only then the graph indicates, that an increase of the dose over 1 mg/ day results in no further effect of DHT inhibition. Nonetheless, amazing , unbiased explanations. You bring a lot of value to the lifes of many.
This is very helpful and informative. I've been taking 1.25mg everyday for years. Excellent result. Now,, I would like to take it every other day due to the fact that the drug has been in my system for a longer period of time. No side effects. Also. I use hair serum from The Ordinary to rejuvenate my scalp. It has low strength of minoxidil. It doesn't dry my scalp as opposed to using Minoxidil.
10:31 In many countries, insurance covers 5mg tablets but not 1mg tablets. My 30 5mg tablets costs me $2 total, where as if I was taking 1mg tablets, it would cost me over $30.
Thank you for the infromation! i have one question remaining. Youre saying that the dose doesn't matter because at a certain point u will reach peak levels either way. Im already on 0.5MG of finasteride for about more than 2 years. it seems my baldness progression has stopped. however would there be any point for me to up the dose to 1MG after already being on it for such al long time? would it benefit my hairloss and would it effect any sides? or do you think its not gone make a difference at all?
Hi guys. Quick question on Dutasteride dosing. Since your general recommendation is three 1mg Finasteride pills per week, and since Dutasteride is said to be a few times stronger, would just one 0.5mg Dutasteride pill per week be the equivalent to the three Finasteride per week? If not, what would be the equivalent dose in your opinion? Thanks!
Please no NOT attempt to dose dutasteride by yourself! The dose for BPH is 0.5mg (which is 12 times higher for finasteride), making it roughly 24 times as potent. Dutaseride is not licensed for hair loss for this reason, and a major side effect is breast cancer in men.
I was scared from watching all these youtube videos of side of affects. This video helped me be more at ease, Thank You. My pills should be arriving this Monday.

I have been taking 2 mg/ week , then moved to 3mg / week and still having hairfall in crown area. I believe the drug is not having any effect on me as its been close to a year now!
Can you comment on the Drake et al. (1999) study that concluded that taking 0.2 mg per day is almost the same as taking 1 mg a day. Also, to achieve that steady state, can we take 0.5 mg 3 times a week?
I was taking 1mg a day for 9 months. I had no libido, and felt a bit weak constantly. I switched to 0.5mg/day a few days a go and I feel very good. Probably around 90% of how I was feeling before jumping on fin.
Hi Dr. Vikram and Dr. Russell, recently I started to consider buying the 5mg Finasteride pills and cut them into quarters to take them 3 times a week as per your advice, I do have one concern about this practice though, do the pills get oxidized after they're cut and left untouched for a few days? This one really bothers me. Thanks so much!
I got really bad brainfog from fin 1mg from the first dose, which goes away after 3 days. So i started taking 1mg every 14 days, because i can't work with the fin induced brainfog. I haven't lost any ground yet, no shedding. Because of the 30day halflife in the tissue, i'm confident that this is at least better than not taking it at all. I'll update you guys
I'm still doing it. It definetely works better than nothing, because my scalp does not itch anymore, and it starts to itch again like crazy when 20ish days has passed, and my shedding continues. I wouldn't reccomend it though. Even though i continue with this dosage frequency, i will probably lose ground in the future. But my experience is that it definetely is better than nothing
Great video! I totally agree with your approach and think a lot of people (specifically those experiencing side effects) needed to hear your fact based opinions on this. Thank you!
From my understanding, 1mg every 2 to 3 days is fine (Mon/Wed/Fri or Tues/Thurs/Sat). If you are experiencing certain symptoms, try reducing the dose and see if that helps.
@@jackjaskowiak Going from 1mg everyday to 1mg Mon/Wed/Fri is cutting the dose. You are going from 7mg a week to 3mg a week. However, if you experience side effects at 3mg a week, you can use a pill cutter and cut the 1mg finasteride pill in half (.5mg). You can try taking half 4 days a week (Mon/Tues/Wed/Thurs). Now you'll be taking 2mg a week instead of 3mg. That said, I am no doctor. This is my understanding of the video.
@@jackjaskowiak I believe so since you are taking less mg a week. However, there is no guarantee. Some people are more sensitive to certain prescriptions while others are not. The good thing is odds are in your favor. I believe this channel has a video that discusses how less than 2% of participants experienced serious side effects. You should check it out 🤙🏼
I took 1mg a day for 3 days and it gave me side effects now I am off the drug and will be back soon after these side effects wear off and will soon give you guys update of micro dosing.
Can you make a video about the various treating method considering different ages and the aggressiveness of hair loss. I think by doing this a lot of people would be really satisfied and not longer comment your videos. (Keep up the good work, great Chanel)
Did anyone else sense the doctor on the right get nervous at the nine minute 30 second mark? That's when the doctor on the left said that even tiny amounts will build up in the tissue overtime, which kind of contradicts the one MG every other day scheduling
Gentlemen, if the goal is to stop the DHT conversion at the site/hair follicle, then topical Finasteride should work if absorbed deep enough into the scalp/follicle. I am looking at limiting the journey via the liver and whole body, thus lessening side effects? With this update, I am thinking of taking 1mg 2X /week after the first month.
If I was to play devil's advocate, aren't the side effects of finasteride caused by the lowering of DHT in the first place? So regardless of which dosage you use, if the drug is working then by definition it is enough to cause the side effects?
@Locs Talks lo ideal es mantenerla equilibrada no? Que puedas mantener erecciones y que tu cabello no se adelgace. Sencillo. Mide tu nivel de DHT y determina si eres propenso a sufrir aga. @@Fizzy332 At about the 6-month mark now. Crown area seems to have thickened up slightly. Can't see any significant difference to my hairline, could have slightly receded more but not by much. Feel like I definitely experienced some shedding through the first 2-4 months to where my hair was slightly thinner than baseline. When I took a closer look, it seems that a lot of the thinner hairs themselves have fallen out leaving the thicker stronger ones. Hoping that over the next 6 months the thinner hairs that I lost get replaced by stronger/thicker ones. Absolutely zero negative side effects. If anything, I've experienced unhair related positive side effects, feel more mentally sharp, more motivated, stronger during workouts/body seems leaner (but this could be due to other changes in my life, no real way of knowing) - Also feels great to be doing something to prevent hair loss in general, huge mental boost in itself

My hair have thinned out as compared to juvenile days. Got myself diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis induced hairloss 10 years ago. Seborrheic is gone. In order to thicken my hair, I have started taking prp session. Done with 1. Doc suggested to use 1mg / day finasteride. Thanks very much. You have made me rethink Finasteride. I took it 13 years ago and experienced sides (panic attacks, anxiety... no issues sexually)... I was on 1.25mg per day. I have never considered that dosage may have been the problem. I am naturally pretty sensitive, so a reduced dosage could hopefully work. I’m considering trying the 3mg/wk approach as suggested. Thanks
How long did you stay on the Fin before you discontinued it? I was experiencing some sexual sides and they resolved after about 3 weeks(could be months) because the body adjusts. I think thats a key problem for many people. As soon as they experience the scary side, they immediately discontinue without realizing that in the majority of cases, the body normalizes the change in dht resulting in less or no sides. The only consistant side ive experienced is a decreased volume of ejaculation. Which is of no concern to me in the slightest lol
Cody Bell Glad that your sides stopped. I kept taking it for 18 months (because I was unaware that fin was causing the issue - this was 14 years ago, when there was less info readily available). My body didn’t adjust quickly after stopping either...
@@nicholasgeorge82 yeah thats known to happen in many people unfortunately. Small percentage of symtoms are persistent. But perhaps lessening the dose can help you lessen or eliminate side effects.
Same here. 2 years of panic attacks just from nowere (but finasteride). It's a very scary drug. Anxiety, blood pressure, fear of dying everyday, all day... Fucked my life for some years. I fear this medicine... At that point, I just didn't care about any sides. I was 20 years old. Lot's of T... Strong as hell...lifting weights and fuckin everyday. My lady is my witness of what I came through. Still with me 13 years after these horrible years of panic. I guess I will try topical instead. When I checked with a doctor, he asked if I had any contact with female hormones. My estradiol levels were higher than a woman in menopause. Remember that DHT blocks estrogen. So you block DHT and it won't block estrogen anymore. You're female hormones will start raising at this point. We're fighting a false "war"...baldness isn't a disease. We have to be very careful about blocking this hormone, that came naturally with all men. If its there, there's a point, right?
I had a terrible time in my life a year into taking 1 mg of finasteride daily. There where mental sides throughout the year, but I fought through the brain fog and other issues. But after exactly a year, my decision was to stop the drug. Starting feeling better after getting back on anti depressants. Lost my hair though, and was miserable. Starting back using topical fin' at a dose of 0.2, or what equates to 0.02 percent. It does appear that this seems to work. My sides are either very low, or not there at all. I just know that I do not feel as bad as when taking the drug orally.
Thanks for all the videos guys, I'm on finasteride now, after 8 months of palmetto and rogaine with ok but inadequate results, trying 1mg every other day
You say level of DHT in blood doesn't matter, only at the hair follicle, but in the topical finasteride video you make the point that testosterone gets converted into DHT at the liver, as well, and that DHT is gonna get to the follicle through the blood stream.

Thank you so much for your dedication and service, it has been very helpful. Is there any study about the duration of the effect of finasteride in the hair follicle?
Thank you for this great video! Can you please do an updated video that takes into consideration the topical finasteride option. I am thinking about starting a combined minoxidil + finasteride topical treatment and I'd love to hear your insight on the topic.
Question: yes, the tissue half life is 30 days but don’t we also want 5-alpha Reductase to be blocked in the liver? If that’s the case, we have to consider the half-life of the drug in the blood as well. Furthermore, if we were only concerned about tissue half-life then topical finasteride must be as effective, if not, more effective than oral finasteride. Just curious. Would love to hear your input. Thanks
Hey, just wondering what your opinions are on the oft-reported cognitive side effects of finasteride? Some claim it made them more dumb, or have brain fog, memory issues, etc. Really worried about that myself. Thanks.
Well it affects neurosteroids and that's a fact. Whether it will affect you mentally is another story but if you're already predisposed to mental issues like depression I'd be very careful with it.
Great video! I do disagree with your approach on pre-treatment bloodwork. Serum free and total DHT is important to measure prior to starting therapy, as interpretation of these results can help indicate likelihood of developing common side effects with use. This would be important for the patient to know prior to onset of therapy.
Hello, First of all, I want to thank you very much for the interesting and effective content! I have been taking finasteride 1 mg for 10 months every other day and I want the results to improve. I am 30 years old. I feel great and probably no side effects. My questions: 1. Is it worth trying to switch to 1 mg per day? Could it improve the results? 2. Is there a risk involved in returning to the current dose? 3. At a later age, should the dose be reduced regardless? Many thanks in advance!!!
Thank you for the great content. Any ways I can keep my DHT level in bloodstream relatively high while having DHT level low enough in the follicles to reduce hair loss? Is this the concept that makes 3x/week having fewer side effects than 7x/week?
Have had to mess around with doses for a bit due to gyno issues but 0.5 mg MWF hasn't seemed to impact growth and gyno symptoms gone most days with occasional tenderness.
Yes that actually happens quite frequently. It's more likely to happen if you start on a lower dose and slowly scale up. Your body, which may early on experience headaches, fuzziness, testicular ache, will often adjust as it gets used to a slightly different amount of DHT.
I'm taking 1.25 mg 3 times a week. Hope I'll be aight. Any experiences with this dosing? This is my first week, I can keep you guys updated if anyone is interested.

I am 52, started losing hair at about 40, got a bald patch on my crown, and general thinning of hair on top, still have a hairline and enough hair to style though, I have noticed over the past year that my overall hair seems finer, at my age is it beneficial to take finasteride. I have considered the option of an FUE for the bald patch and general hair loss but would like to start with this and see how this goes first.
so you are assuming that the BUILDUP of fin in the hair is the same speed as in the blood, but the conversion speed is LOWER in the hair than in the blood. what is your source for this?1 possible experiment to prove this would be giving 1 group fin for a week, another group for 1 day and then measuring levels in the follicle 30 days after the last dose. if the levels are almost the same after 30 days, then the hypothesis holds up. but without the comparison group you cant really hypothesise that.
Monster Jaguar that happened to me I got ED after two months of 1.25 mg per day stopped for a few weeks and then went on .625 daily and no sides so far
Thank you guys. I have been taking 1mg a day for about two years and within the last 8 months have experienced a bunch of side effects.. I quite for 3 weeks and took 1mg again yesterday and had a headache within an hour and felt very lethargic.. I think I will now try .5 a day to get the 3mg a week target.. I just don’t want to take 1mg doses because I have a response with it
Like you I have been on finasteride for 2 years (1.25mg a day) and I've had side effects. My once thick beard has become thin, sparse and patchy and my morning erections completely stopped, as well as my sperm becoming very watery. I have considered stopping altogether, but am obviously fearful of losing all the hair I have maintained while being on finasteride, so what I have done instead is cut the 5mg into 8 pieces and am taking 0.625mg a day as opposed to 1.25mg a day. My question is, should I stop taking the pill entirely for 30 days and then start again as some doctors recommend?
@@Danimal77 I also have been on it for roughly 2 years. I started taking 1mg daily for the first year with fluctuating results. Morning erections also occurred less but it was very inconsistent which was odd. After doing some research on DHT, dosage rang, case studies and taking my health profile into consideration I decided to start taking 1.5 mg daily. Because I do have an aggressive rate of hair loss I felt that this would work better for me and it has been so far. What’s even more strange is that orgasms are more intense oddly enough and I can’t find any answer on that topic with finasteride. It wasn’t like that on just 1mg but now it is after starting with 1.5mg. No Erectile dysfunction, no decrease in libido, nothing. In fact my libido is slightly higher then before as well. I have read about finasteride increasing the levels of free testosterone in the body but those levels are so low it shouldn’t be a problem, a possible increase of testosterone is the only thing I can think of that could contribute to what I’m experiencing. Have you had experienced this?
Been on fin 2.5 months now (1mg/day), noticed it started to give me gyno. Stopped now. You think reducing is a good alternative to fully stopping? Or even switching to topical fin?
@Gabe Gibson bro great news then, I'm not an aggressive balder, I'm 41 going on 42 but I'm definitely thinning, my crown is slowly growing a hole. Should I do. .5 3 days a week? You think I'll be able to build up enough to actually get results? I don't care if it takes longer, also I'm 6'1 240 pounds.
@Gabe Gibson i think that 0,5 mg every day and 1 mg every other day is the same thing. I will try every other day because i use fin 5 mg split in 4..i have tried to split in 8 but is better split only in 4 pieces..
This channel is a gift to the fight against hair loss.

Im 57 and have been taking Finasteride daily for 18mths. Still losing hair and my temples it hasnt stopped my hair loss.
Same here, still losing hair. Very disappointing.
1mg for a woman is just insane. Please change doctors. 0.25mg every reduces DHT about 80% of 1mg does even for males
I think that women need more finasteride than men. A study talked about 5 mg a day for women but it has to be confirmed. Spironolactone is more prescribed for women.

Finasteride has such a flat dose response curve that if someone says they got side effects at 1mg per day and
none at .25mg per day than the side effects they were experiencing were all psychosomatic.
Yeah that’s what I’m wondering. If taking a lower dose isn’t much different for the positive effects why would they get rid of the negative effects?
I got sides within a week starting at ~0.625mg (split the 5mg into 8 lol).
I wasn't even expecting it, I was feeling confident in my body's ability to overcome it but alas...my sides got a bit better overtime though but still persist.
@@astwas What were the sides? And I don't know if I would risk it.

26yrs old. Been thinning for about 4 years. Mild thinning through the crown and slight receding. Started on the advised dosage from the video (3mg a week). Been on it for 3 weeks so far. The only possible notable side effect is increased libido (surprising). Will update in a few months time
Same. i thought my libido will decrease, but i feel its a bit higher then normal

update?
@@Fizzy332 Also bumped it up to 1.25mg everyday at about the 5 month mark. Just felt if I'm doing this I may go all out (seeing as I experienced no negative side effects on 3mg weekly)
I got very elevated liver enzymes from finasteride after taking 1,25 mg/day, so I would recommend taking a blood test after using for a while. The dosage was probably way too high for me. This is useful information.
Did you continue on a lower dose?
@@thebest5productsforyou No, I couldn't get my doctor to prescribe it again to me because of the blood test. I'd like to try again but at a lower dose, and follow up with blood test to see if I could find a sweet spot.
Hi Dr Knudsen & Dr Vikram, what are your thoughts on a dosage of 0.5mg, two to three times a week?
My hair have thinned out as compared to juvenile days. Got myself diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis induced hairloss 10 years ago. Seborrheic is gone. In order to thicken my hair, I have started taking prp session. Done with 1. Doc suggested to use 1mg / day finasteride. And, cause of this video + my mother being a nurse and from her experience on modifying pain killer's dosage for pain relief according to own calculations , I am not going to listen to the doc and will take 3 times a week. Cause the hair is important but the manhood is even more.
Thanks
Good luck.
Perhaps a video on the combination of Fin and Dut would be helpful too?
We have addressed this in our previous episodes.

I'm a med student and I can affirm whatever these respected people are saying is 100% legit.
You say level of DHT in blood doesn't matter, only at the hair follicle, but in the topical finasteride video you make the point that testosterone gets converted into DHT at the liver, as well, and that DHT is gonna get to the follicle through the blood stream.
Hi doctor, I am 18 years old and experiencing hairloss on the temple aggressively this year, how much mg of finesteride should I start taking to avoid side effects? Thankyou
0.05mg
@@respectfulyoungmen2141 will I regrow my my hairline too or make it better?
@@namikazeomar8001 it won’t completely regrow most likely, but it will thicken up existing hair and prevent further loss.
@@respectfulyoungmen2141 OK thankyou very much, I've tried saw palmetto for 4 months but my hair continues to receding + becomes thinner. I am planning to stop saw palmetto and switch to finesteride or can I take both?
@@namikazeomar8001 I took saw palmetto until u turned 18 and then switched over to fin. Fin definitely works 100000 times better. It’s pointless to take both considering the % of DHT inhibition is only as high as the strongest DHT blocker your taking so any other DHT blockers in combination are useless.
I take my 3 day at 1mm. I also take Rogaine as well and I use a derma rollers every week. I am probably over extending with my treatment but I am really conscious about my hair and don't want to lose it. Luckily my hair loss isn't that bad only happening in my hairline.
The video is basically the answer to the question I had yesterday, brilliant.

@@chucktaylor9494 took it for 11 months and had pretty mild sides but nothing to scare me off the pill. hair looked 10x better by the 3-month mark. sides got really bad around 10ish months in and i stopped taking it for 1.5 weeks and the sides went away. might hop back on it again now that its flushed out of my system after building it up for so long
Does taking zinc while on Finasteride lower the risk of side effects related to estrogen like Gyno and if I took it with Fin , will it lower the efficiancy of Fin and wont give the Fin the best results?!
It cant hurt, but I think its more likely to help maintain libido, then stop Gyno

10-20 is normal hair fall don't worry if u worry about this small number u will lose moree because of stress
Would there be a difference in taking 0.5mg 6 times a week, instead of 1mg 3 times a week?
It's the same thing mate, you're getting the same amount in your system
Have u found the answer?
No. 1 mg and 0.5mg inhibit different levels of DHT. The point is the duration for which the DHT is kept low in your body.
@@maxmartins9102 I have stuck to 1mg 3 times a week. Seems easier than having to cut those in halves aswell.
From the info I have gathered, it seems you could even take 3mg on one day, and then nothing for a whole week. Differences would be small.

case by case-- as he says.. im 62, good health, good hair all around. but I noticed an ever so slight thinning mid scalp.. no biggie, jumped all over fin and min.
month 1- I did the 1 mg per day of fin... experienced obvious lower libido levels, more tired, groggy a bit, so....
month 2- im taking 1 mg every 2nd day[ skipping a day]....because it stays in your system long enough to do its thing before the next pill.
and I get a break from it.
going to keep this cycle up for a while to see concrete results.
like he said case by case.. because I have good hair and want to maintain--- peace brothers
now at 5.5 months- I've backed off to .5 mg per week and all well. still experiencing bloatedness and lower libido. still doing its job tho. thx brothers
Thank you so much, truly generous from both of you Doc

I took it for 4 days and I had brain fog. My memory is always sharp and I never felt like this, so its finasteride related 100%.
@@The-Esoteric-One It doesn’t affect neurosteroids. The brain contains type 1 5 alpha reductase enzymes, not type 2 which is what finasteride affects.
Great video! I do disagree with your approach on pre-treatment bloodwork. Serum free and total DHT is important to measure prior to starting therapy, as interpretation of these results can help indicate likelihood of developing common side effects with use. This would be important for the patient to know prior to onset of therapy.
I am on finasteride from last 6 Month, can I take creatine and other suppliment, Whey Protein?

Hello,
First of all, I want to thank you very much for the interesting and effective content!
I have been taking finasteride 1 mg for 10 months every other day and I want the results to improve.
I am 30 years old. I feel great and probably no side effects.
My questions:
Is this the concept that makes 3x/week having fewer side effects than 7x/week?
yes
it is to either minimise or eliminate potential side effect.
Just arrived 84t of Finasteride, I will do it 3 days/week and give you update in 3 and 6 months 👍

@@chucktaylor9494 Taking it 7x week you get no hair loss, 3x time some may fall out but still better than when not taking at all

It would just be a meme of DwayneThe Rock Johnson yelling at people.
Have had to mess around with doses for a bit due to gyno issues but 0.5 mg MWF hasn't seemed to impact growth and gyno symptoms gone most days with occasional tenderness.
If mild side effects are experienced in the beginning, could they be expected to subside as your body adjusts to the new medicine?
Yes that actually happens quite frequently. It's more likely to happen if you start on a lower dose and slowly scale up. Your body, which may early on experience headaches, fuzziness, testicular ache, will often adjust as it gets used to a slightly different amount of DHT.
Gabe Landy *less likely

I am 52, started losing hair at about 40, got a bald patch on my crown, and general thinning of hair on top, still have a hairline and enough hair to style though, I have noticed over the past year that my overall hair seems finer, at my age is it beneficial to take finasteride. I have considered the option of an FUE for the bald patch and general hair loss but would like to start with this and see how this goes first.
Can I take 0.5 of finasteride 3x a week if I feel the 1mg was giving headache or brain fog side effects?
i'm wondering about 0.25 mg lmao
@@KalvinPatel did you do it? Sides?
How did it go with 0.5?
so you are assuming that the BUILDUP of fin in the hair is the same speed as in the blood, but the conversion speed is LOWER in the hair than in the blood. what is your source for this?1 possible experiment to prove this would be giving 1 group fin for a week, another group for 1 day and then measuring levels in the follicle 30 days after the last dose. if the levels are almost the same after 30 days, then the hypothesis holds up. but without the comparison group you cant really hypothesise that.
If you have side effects from 1.25 mg per day, do you recommend taking a month off and then going back on 3 timer per week?

@Gabe Gibson did you lose any gains on the lower dosage? How are you feeling now? How's your hair?
