For someone in their field saying that they have never, in 20 years had someone not recover from the side effects is enough for me to try it. Thank you for the videos.
@@brandon-cz4nl obv youve never had bad depression. It is the worst. Why you think people commit suicide? That might be an indicator of how bad it is, don't you think? But, hey, you're a tough guy.
Saw Dr Knudsen a few years back in Canberra. Recommended that I don't get a hair transplant and to reduce my does of Finasteride to three times a week. A lot of respect for him.
@@leftspeaker2000 ok cool. I ordered 1 Mg from Keeps. And 5% topical minoxidil. If the fin gives me issues I will drop it to 3 days a week. Are you happy with your results ?
Started taking it back in march, 3mg a week (keeps), was good until about September and I noticed some side effects, slight ED, lower sperm volume that stuff. Got off of it just to be safe, we were planning on trying to conceive again. Side effects were gone within like three weeks of getting off of it and wife is pregnant now. But just throwing my story out there for anyone who might find it useful
I'm 34, just started following prescribed directions- I took 1mg Monday through Thursday and already noticed less wood in the shed and 50% reduction from previous super soaker abilities. I'm going to downgrade to 3mg a week instead of their reccomended 7mg a week regimen and hopefully that nixes the side effects.
I took it for about two years, and it was bad stuff. I started in my late 30's. I had some erection problems, but the worst was not being able to finish sex. After I stopped taking it, the side effects lingered, and may linger a bit today (almost 50) I would have gotten in on a class action lawsuit, but I took the generic. I have been told that I was in a small group, but when it hits you, it sucks.
Me too as I am just starting my journey on Propecia (Finasteride) today and will follow these professionals advice and take 1mg three times a week. Tues, Thurs, Sat. Too many fear mongering on the net. My GP was so ill informed and only concentrated on the negatives. I know she was only a GP not really her field. But after telling her I have been looking into this for some time she insisted on making sure I do know of these side effects. Glad I got the prescription though.
I’ve been taking finasteride for close to 25 years… Started at age 20 when my hair was falling out way more rapidly than a single guy ever wanted it to. Anyway, I have had zero side effects. In fact, if you ask my wife, she would say I should take some more considering the loss of libido being one of them. By the way, I was originally given the 5 mg dosage because the doctors were still fairly new at understanding what I can do but a few years later the 1 mg dosage became a thing. So basically, I’ve been taking 1 mg for over two decades, and have for the most part kept the same head of hair in that time.

I've been on finasteride for 7 years I'm 34 years old and I've had zero side effects.. I've heard of the side effects too before using them, guess everyone is different, I stick to the 1mg a day and my hair loss has pretty much stalled completely
@@Tyler-dm2ul How am I just seeing this? I wear my hair so long now that it's hard to tell. I would guess some but the main thing was stall.. I wonder how my hair would look like if I didn't get on it ASAP
My bro used to have very thin hair on top of his head, but he yet had a hairline, just quite thin. He lowered his stress, enhanced diet, and began using liiitleextra cooconion nourishing shampoo and hair oil. This helped decrease his hair fall in just 4 to 5 months.
I take Finnastride and haven’t noticed any sexual problems. But I also do take very good care of myself. I don’t drink any alcohol at all, I don’t smoke or take any drugs, I exercise hard at least 5 times a week and I eat very healthy too. I started losing my hair at age 19 and once I started taking Finnastride, my hair loss stopped. Now I also did have my hair restored, but the surgeon told me that I should still keep taking Finnastride and that I don’t need to use rogaine anymore. My hair looks great and even though I straighten my hair, I do take good care of my hair and I use coconut oil which helps a lot. I think the side effects happen for men who don’t take care of themselves, who are overweight, unhealthy, consume lots of alcohol, smoke, don’t exercise, and eat junk food consistently. If you eat healthy, workout hard, drink lots of water, who don’t masturbate anymore like I do, I’m on day 80 now of Semen Retention, you should be just fine.
@@franksindoneii5410 there’s different types of coconut oil but it is good for your hair and your skin. It’s even used for cooking and in some cases it does help burn fat too. So it is helpful.
Started losing my hair in my early 20s. It became noticeable at 22. Hopped onto finasteride, and then had a small transplant to thicken up the thinned section (thank God for cheap Estonian cosmetic surgery). Very satisfied with the result. The transplant did most of the heavy lifting visually. But I'm hoping the finasteride will prevent further progression.
@Doni99 After a hair transplant you definitely do want to treat the alopecia somehow, or the new hair will just fall out eventually too. Finasteride has a very low risk of side effects at the dosages used for hair loss (1mg 3-7x per week) You can definitely get them, but some 97% of people don't. A lot of the horror stories for side effects come from prostate hyperplasia treatment, which is at a 5-14x higher dosage. And none of the side effects are permanent. So if you do get them, you can just stop taking finasteride. If you do get side effects, another option would be platelet rich plasma therapy. Which has shown to be as effective as finasteride. With virtually no side effects. Though is more expensive and a pain in the ass.
@@Erowens98 new (transplanted) hairs don’t just fall out .. they are permanent. They come from the donor area for a reason because it’s not susceptible to MPB.
Great show guys. I think it’s brilliant that you two just stick to the facts and we don’t have to wait to wade through banal comments like other shows by non medical podcasters. Please keep them coming. Much love from the USA!
More like choosing which facts to share, and which ones NOT to share. Nothing but an insidious sales pitch brought to you by Merck. Try taking it Shawn
I just want to say thank you so much for providing this information. I'd been on finasteride 1mg/day for 5 months and started to experience frequent testicular pain and ED. I'm going to give it a break for a few months to see whether those side effects disappear and then I'll reassess dosing or permanent stoppage. It's nice to know that this won't last forever.
The company that patented Finasteride and did the research for prostate enlargement must have gotten a HUGE payday after discovering the benefits for the hair.
Best video on fin Ive seen. Interesting how Russell speaks confidently to the camera yet Vikram speaks to Russell as if to make sure Russell approves of what he's saying
Excellent video Docs. I'm a hair stylist who works with hair replacement systems, but having medical knowledge is always great to talk to my clients. Thank you
I've been taking Finasteride for 15 months now and NO side affects. My only regret is I didn't start taking it earlier due to all the bullshit fear mongering about Finasteride.
It's not bullshit fear mongering though. Some peoples' lives HAVE drastically changed as a result of taking it, even though there is a slim chance of experiencing it.
I took it for 8 years, 1 ml a day. I got severe panic attacks, brain fogs, palpitations, a total nightmare. It took me years to realize that finasteride was the problem. After I stooped it took a while ( years) to get rid of the side effects, since is so difficult to pin point the exact side effects. Maybe getting the dose right would make a difference, but I would not want to go through it again.
Since January I have been taking Minoxidil for my MPB. It wasn't until this channel that I was being brave and decided to start taking Finasteride. The option to do it 3 times a week just made so much sense, and the results for me personally have been amazing! I did a whole 6 month video about the treatment and the before and after just made me realise how much it all grew back! I haven't really noticed any side affects other than a bit of brain fog, but I imagine it to be much of a placebo affect anyway, (If you think you will get side affects, you probably will!) Thanks again Vikram and Russell!
Hey. I've been taking Minoxidil for 5 months now and I want to get on fin. My only concern is, if I start using fin, will I go through the shedding phase again?
I am at the second week and have a question, did you feel any lack of libido, it says in the package that your body will get used to it because since 3 days ago I don't feel any sexual interest
Thanks guys. I bit the bullet, went to my doctor and got a prescription for finasteride thanks to your videos. Taking 1mg three times a week along with 5% minoxidil twice a day and micro needling with 1.5mm derma roller once a week. I’ve been a long time user of minoxidil and had great results, but as I’m getting older (33 years old) my hair wasn’t progressing anymore.
I was prescribed 5mg the doctor gave me that because it’s cheaper and I was told to split into into 4 peace’s the pill is so tiny so I asked the pharmacist for a pill splitter and i split the pills at home. I take the smallest peace 3x a week so that’s 12x a month. I’m perfectly fine no side effects. I think people are taking way too much.
Been taking it for over 20 years. In the last 2 years I've been only taking 1mg 3 times a week instead of everyday. No side effects and all seems the same . Im 60 years old.
It’s good to hear that having a break from finasteride shouldn’t cause any dramatic hair loss. As I know I’ll probably need to take a break if I plan to have children with my partner at some point.
Blame our body’s the things are body makes hurts us lol. Too much testosterone which is good for the body but destroys hair you think it grow more hair. Too much purines make to much uric acid that the kidneys can’t filter out which leads to gout. Too much electricity in the brain leads to seizures. I could go on but our body’s are doing this it’s kinda not fare.
We just need to wait another meteor that would be so astonishing to crumble this moldy ball entirely, and we will get our manumit as bio-robots from this simulation.🫸🫷Or we should wait self-replicating-nano-machines and this will be gone unto next convergence.
After 2 years Finasteride destroyed my libido. I stopped and it’s mostly returned. It did nothing for my hair loss. I will never use Finasteride again. I rather be bald.
Question to the public: i have been taking 1 mg every day for about 3 - 4 years now. I for sure notice decreases in libido and some ED. My hair has not gotten any worse in that time , and possibly has gotten better. But i personally feel it can cause a bit of depression considering you have little drive to seek out a partner then if you do you have the paranoia of not everything working when the time comes. Has anyone else experienced the same feelings? I dont necessarily want to stop taking it because im single and would like to keep my hair but the double edge sword to this is really a problem. Wondering if i should take a few months off and or change my dosing/schedule.
I tried taking it on 2 separate occasions. My doctor warned me but I insisted and she prescribed it for me. I immediately lost my sexual function but kept taking it because the guidelines are to keep taking it and you will eventually regain sexual function. This didnt happen for me. When I came off the drug though I swung the other way and became a sex crazed maniac. A year or two later I tried it again only taking a quarter of a pill every other day. Even with that dosage I had significant and immediate hair regrowth, and much less severe sexual side effects. However the sexual side effects were still not worth it. Losing your confidence in the bedroom in exchange for a better hairline is just not a worthwhile trade off. And again when I quit the drug my hormones went berzerk and I became an absolute carnivore. I suspect many men who do not report sexual side effects are so desperate to keep their hair that they are in denial. Many of you reading this may actually be in that situation. This denial is compounded by the denial commonly associated with the shame of experiencing sexual dysfunction in the first place. I also suspect that doctors in the hair restoration industry are highly biased, since the success of their treatments relies on tolerance of the drug. It is a cruel irony to have to choose between having hair or having a boner, but I’ve never been exceptional in any other way so I doubt that I’m the only one or even in the minority. On the other hand I’m not going to tell you that women find bald men attractive either or that people perceive us to be dominant. It sucks not having hair. But if God had made me tall, confident, intelligent, talented, compassionate, with a great body and a huge rock hard cock, and a full head of hair, it just wouldn't be fair to everyone else. So I’m willing to trade my hairline for some humility and character.
@@DeanMorrissey-fu1yf Last month I was on a date with a young Mexican doctor in Monterrey and she said the side effects are very common and agreed with me that most men are too ashamed to admit it.
I was considering stopping finasteride due to worries of side effects, especially after reading lots of fear mongering on Reddit. After desperately searching the internet for answers I found nothing, but after watching this video I feel a SO much better. Such a great video, very underrated! Definitely recommend to anyone with doubts about taking finasteride.
I started taking 1 pill a day and then went down to 3 per week and for the last 5+ years I take 1.25mg once a week (I cut the 5mg pills in quarters) and I've lost no hair. I've been using it probably 20 years now.
I was taking 1mg a day for a month straight and noticed the ED/low libido side effects. No 30 year old man should wake up with no morning wood. I'll try 3x a week, hopefully the side effects subside. Thanks guys!
I’m so happy I found this video. I have been taking finasteride for about 3 years at 1mg daily. I never missed one day and I have noticed I’ve gained significant amount of weight in the past 3 years. I will start taking it 3 times per week from now on. If you perhaps see my comment, I would love to know if I should take a break and then start the new schedule or if I should just lower the dose and not take a break

One question: I’m a physician myself and reading studies on pubmed I encountered the possibility of lasting side effects even after discontinuing of the drug. What can you tell about that?
I am a pharmacist and it happened to me. It is absolutely real, it's called PFS. I still have horrendous side effects and i have been off of it for 2 years. Most recent research is showing the likely cause is epigenetic changes via methylation and acetylation of the genes that encode for 5-alpha reductase (SRD5A2) as well as modifications in those that regulate the Androgen receptor behavior and expression. Cascades occur from the androgen deprivation and the direct and extensive disruption to steroidogenesis (namely allopregnanolone, and 3α-androstanediol) which also causes changes to GABA-a receptor function and therefore dysregulate dopamine signaling and function as well. The androgen receptor becomes massively overexpressed in genital tissues and in prefrontal cortex. Studies have also seen major differences in the length between CAG repeats on the AR gene in PFS patients as well.
I know were talking about finasteride, but I just started minoxidil and after less than 2 weeks, got a nasty rash on both my scalp and forehead and swollen lymph nodes behind my ears, and this was with Kirkland foam product. I’m all done with minoxidil.
Was on fin for almost 2 years. Rx was 1mg / day. Never took that much (experimented with various dosing protocols). Near the end I was taking 0.5mg / 3x / wk and was still having ED issues (43yo, never had issues prior). I talked to a "pelvic health" colleague about it and she recommended I stop taking it immediately. So, I stopped taking it and about a week or 2 later, my "better" erections came back as well as being able to fully urinate more easily. 🤷🏼♂️
Do you suggest taking zinc with finasteride to decrease the risk of side effects? and does using zinc with finasteride makes the finasteride less effective or it doesnt have any role in the decreasing or increasing the finasteride effect ?
Well blocking 5-alpha reductase also reduces the conversation of progesterone into allopregninolone (as they both use the same enzyme). You could certainly explain some possible side effect this way.
I've been using Fin for around 3 weeks at your recommended dosage of every second day. I've noticed eye floaters in the last 2 weeks. Do you think this is a side effect or a placebo/coincidence? Don't want to halt immediately but also don't want to allow it to worsen/become permanent? Anyone got any thoughts?
I had to stop after 7 years due to dry eyes. I had started struggling with eyes so dry that my eyelids were sticking to my eyes and it was incredibly painful. After damaging my cornea and going to 2 doctors who were both stumped and just tried to give me eye drops I did some personal research and found that testosterone affects eye tearing. I stopped taking fin and my dry eye issues stopped. A year later i thought I was crazy and stared fun again. Within a week I started having dry eyes again. This is just a heads up that this is one of the lesser known side effects.
Ive been taking it for almost 4 months now. There has definetly been noticeable improvement in my hair which I started losing when I was 15. Thankfully, I have zero signs of any major side effects except for one side effect which has only been reported 5 times. It's uncontrollable eye twitching specifically in my left eye. It happens quite frequently, maybe twice every day for atleast 5 mins. It's annoying but barely anything to worry about.
Going to be honest. This was keeping me from taking it. I've ben taking it for 1.5 - 2 months now, 1mg a day. Haven't noticed any growth yet (don't expect to for at least 6-8 months) but I have noticed some side effects. Definitely have a reduced (not gone) libido and reduced by about half volume. I'm sticking with it, but sometime in the future (6 months+)I will be reducing my dosage to every other day as suggested here.
I'm 8 months in, and still taking it (and rogaine as well) "almost" every day. I do admittedly miss a day occasionally. I haven't reduced dosage to every other day yet, I've set my target for that at the one year mark. So far, I haven't really noticed any new growth. It's not much if any that is. Let me quantify this by saying I'm 46 yrs old as I guess that makes a difference too. But I will say I don't think my hair is getting any thinner at this point. No noticeable visible difference or hair in the shower drain. Side effects are still there... reduced but not gone libido and a reduced by at least half volume. Guess I'm one of the unlucky 1%? I'm going to keep going and see how this plays out. Also I'm a little afraid to stop taking it at this point. Since I'm not losing what I currently have at this point I'm afraid if I stop it will start falling out.
Here's a side effect no one seems to be talking about. You can't donate blood while you're on finasteride. I've donated blood heaps of times, but not in a few months. I recently got on fin, went in to donate blood and found out that it's a total no go for blood donors (because it can't go to pregnant women). I'd rather keep getting thinner hair and still be able to give blood consistently again, than keep the hair and not be able to donate blood. Pretty easy choice. Hopefully some stem cell treatement options get better/more accessible soon.
You two need to seriously consider international conferences teaching this to doctors prescribing this drug. Just started this week and my doctor recommended 1mg a day. Will be employing 3x a week.
@@eatthedots Did you watch the video above or just start typing? They recommended three days a week, because the half life for Finasteride is 30 hours. Don’t know what a half life is, look it up.
lowest dose necessary to achieve desired results should be the mantra of all doctors! Start small, work up to what's needed. I've known far too many people who were given way too much of something based on BS generalizations of what a "normal" dose supposedly is.
I just heard about these side effects recently. As my son is using the product, I have concerns. Your video seems well informed and has eased my worries a bit.
I've read that it increases depression/anxiety and increases risk of diabetes by 30% and yet the only thing everyone ever talks about is the libido thing.
That's what makes me worries as someone who has always been on and off depression/anxiety phases so it's kinda scary for me.. it might mess things further
Great and true tips in this video. I started at 48. It worked so well that my kids compare my photos after a year and I look so different. . Combined it with rogaine/minox. Now I take 0.5 mg only just to maintain the gains. Skipping for a few days every 2 months to clear out residue from the body. Skipping few days doesn't kill the hair. Hair takes months to die out. Exercise and tone up also helped to negate any hormonal side effects. Trust me - the joy of seeing the hair line and thickness is sooo exhilarating. Not many things exites people after 45 - but regaining my looks made me feel like a don...
@@VK-no5kj thanks a lot! But tell me, what should I do since i only can get 5 mg!? If I cut into 4, I get 1.25m. Though they can't be equal w but the most important thing is that after 10 days, will be having the same amount of fin in my body? Does it sound logical?
Taking oral finasteride 3x a weel sounds really good. Will applying Topical Finasteride 3x a week also be effective in terms of hair regrowth and limiting side effects profile?
I don't know, I know someone in real life that got impotent with a following severe depression that he still hasn't recovered from fully. Also, I'm at the age where I actively want to have my own children... I just don't see the point of risking my sexual health for a better hairline.
@reza green At the point I wrote this, he was suicidal and had gone to psychiatric care a few times. Now he's in a program where he gets to do daily activities and slowly rebuilding his life. So the worst is over at least, but this is almost 2 years since it started. Mental health is no joke. I think the sexual side effects are not permanent so it's probably ok now.
@@rumble1925 The sexual side effects are absolutely permanent. It's the mental ones where treatment can sometimes help. Every single man who has mental sides, says they'd do anything for a mental recovery, and they're okay with being impotent, because it's something that you can live with.

After using all of them for over a period of continuous 1 and 1/2 years, I would say do not go for any finas or Dutas. They have bad side effects example low libido, it does decreases stamina and personality disorders. You will feel like you are trapped in cage of medicines and in hope of getting new hair. So I have ditched all now and conclusion is that dont go for any harmful medicine , No medicine can regrow your hair if it is male pattern baldness, All medicine companies are marketing you a hope a hope of 1 year of continuous usage of these toxic medicines and in the end your dermatologist will suggest you for hair transplant or he/she will say that you must have gaped the medicines & minoxidil. There are many bloggers and you tube videos but everyone is just selling them, the biggest truth is that once your hair is gone, it is gone. So have confidence within yourself have a good diet and nutritious food fish etc., almonds and fruits, massage your hair with a good organic oil weekly and do nothing dont go for these trap of medicines which can harm your body adversely.
it's a treatment not a cure. YES! you need to be on it for life to keep the hair.. it blocks your balls from giving your head too much dht. You are balding because your hair is sensitive to DHT. All it does is block it.. once you stop blocking it.. guess what.. you start receeding again. And finasteride does not work wonders for your temples (the front) it works best on your crown and thickening existing hair a bit.
Rambling Ramul so my hairline is basically fucked? If it does nothing for my hairline then I don’t think I’m going to take it. I don’t have any hair loss in my crown area just the temples
Rambling Ramul finasteride does not discriminate the area of scalp that it helps... it depends on how much the follicles at the front have miniaturised...
This show is so good, i really love the way you think about the numbers in science, im a student of kinesiology so very often i think in terms of dose-response relationships... Very sophisticated information here, thank you so much for sharing :D
1mg finasteride per day with Minoxidil spray 5% gave me satisfying results and took out my depression about being bald. Been taking it for 2.5 years. I did not have any bad side effects since the initial period I'm taking it which lasted 2 weeks. Side effects include random ball ache and watery sperm. But it all went away after a month and now I got no side effects at all.
This is the holy gail for people who wanted to take finasteride, it was very informative and busted many misconceptions. Hope more people would watch this vid. Thanks a lot, keep up the quality content!
If the drug stays in skin tissue for 30 days, then why is there a need to take it so often? Surely taking 1mg once every 10 days would be more than enough? If a single 1mg dose stays in the skin even for 20 days, and you keep adding a new dose every few days, then if you take 1mg even twice a week, that cumulative sum of days keeps adding, so if you follow that for a year and stop, you would be left with over 1700 days accumulated (almost 5 years), for the drug to then completely wear off. Maybe I'm missing something in my logic but that could also explain PFS. Also where is there any link to any study that proves that the drug stays in skin tissue for any length of time?
I think your onto to something. I think 1 mg might be to much and to often . I believe maybe 5 days fin leaves the body. I had swelling of right testicular. Thinking of the worst. Than I realize can it be fin. So I stop for 5 days and now I see testicular back to normal size. Can this be a side effect. I will see by going back on fin to see if I get same side effect.
@@nicolesworld6751 it is the finasteride doing that.. I had same expeerience and so had many others. Testicle pain will go away after days to weeks of taking it often. If that is the only side effect you got then you should be good. I got small headaches and a sudden depression after few days on the pill. The headache was the first day I took it, same with the testicle pain. Testicle pain went away on the 3 time taking it. But headache continued / brain fog.. so I stopped.
Hi Ahmed, I think to answer your question we really should be reminded of the concept of therapeutic range. The level of a drug that has entered our circulatory system will decline over time, and just because it "exists" in the blood for 30 days does not mean it will exist enough to exert any therapeutic benefit, because the levels will decrease over time (hence you need to keep topping it up). What Dr Russell is trying to say is that in his experience, patients taking 1mg finasteride 3x a week will have a similar level of benefit as compared to those taking it every day, and this physiological 30 day availability in the blood is likely a contributory factor in this finding. Hope this helps.
Nicole's World This isn’t new information. Look at what South Korea does in terms of dosing. They literally microdose a fraction of what the minimum is in the West.
Great channel! I am about a year into finasteride. It took a couple months to notice side-effects. Since then I have had multiple side-effects, but I also recognize that I have approached this process with anxiety and likely am suffering from the nocebo effect. I have taken breaks from usage, and the side-effects have reversed. Still in the process of finding the right dosage.
if you don't mind me asking. how quick did the side effects subside when you stopped the dosage. because recently ive been getting those side effects pretty annoyingly and might just stop outright
you should just stop taking it altogether if your side effects are still reversible, seriously dont play with fire. take it from someone who stopped once it was far too late. keeping your sexual health and sanity is far far greater than keeping your hair.
I've been taking Fin 1mg/day for a week, so far no side effects whatsoever. I hope it stays that way! No ED, it actually got much better over the last week (probably because I don't worry anymore about hair loss).
Initially you’ll have a spike in test, increased libido. I wouldn’t do one a day. That’s what I did for 6 months. Had sexual sides. I’d try 3x a week. It’s gonna happen.... just warning you.
@Myron Gaines You don’t understand how the studies on the drug work. If side effects started five years after someone started the drug, then it wasn’t from the drug. They were part of the overall population who does NOT take the drug and sees those same side effects to a larger degree than those who are actively taking the drug. Furthermore, they cannot prove it was the drug that chased it years after stopping just because they got side egg sh don’t the road years later because, once again, people who don’t use the drug suffer from the same common health issues. Large sample sizes on patients taken the drug shows it’s only a few percent at best who get side effects while being in the drug. If side effects were common it’s impossible for it not to show up in the studies AND HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of patients who take it under their doctors supervision. Doctors would know right away but they all say only 1% or so see some effects which is in line with the studies. Finastride doesn’t block all DHT. It leaves enough for the small functions like sexual function in men, which only uses a small amount of DHT. Most DHT is not needed after puberty and too much causes balding and prostate cancer.
@Myron Gaines I have. There are no randomized controlled studies proving brain problems due to Finasteride in humans. There are animal studies which use 100x the dosage, which have not been replicated in humans. Secondly, it’s mainly Dutasteride that blocks 5AR 1 and 2 enzymes. Finasteride blocks just mostly 5AR2 and still leaves 30-40% DHT left over, which is more than enough for the very small limited demands it’s needed for in mail adults after puberty. Thirdly, the body actually has backdoor pathways that do not use 5AR to produce neurosteroids. So even when 5AR is blocked, the body has other backdoor pathways and compensatory enzymes to fulfill that need. So you’ll still get progesterone and allopregnenolone.
@Myron Gaines I already explained it well. Read what I said. 1) All those side effects are seen as health issues among the population. 2) The burden of the proof is on you and those who claim to have post Finasteride syndrome to prove that it was the drug that caused it and not other factors because men who don’t take the drug suffer those those side effects due to health issues regardless. A certain percentage of the population will suffer from them REGARDLESS of whether they use the drug or not. So you have to prove that those people are not part of that population and that the drug caused it. Simply having health issues and having taken the drug is not evidence that the drug caused it. Shark bites are correlated to ice cream stand sales but that doesn’t mean ice cream stand sales cause shark bikes. Some people do get side effects, but the evidence clearly shows that it’s only a very small percent who do and that issues go away after stopping the drug. I been on the drug for 10 year and not a single issue. Still waiting.
I came back to find this video, which I watched in August 2022. I started 1mg/Mon/Wed/Fri, on Sep 21st, and after 3 months I see 20% thickening of hair. I will continue and report findings.
I've watched probably 10 various youtube videos on the topic and this one is by far the most helpful and educational! Keeps thought they sold me a 3 month supply for $170 and turns out it's actually a 7.5 month supply now that I realize I can stretch it out even further💁🏻♂️👌🏼 Having taken 4 doses in my first week I've already noticed lower libido. When I pet my snake he doesn't wake up like he used to as well as an ejac volume reduction of about 50%😑 I'm single but my vigor and manhood is not defined by how much hair is on my head so if side effects continue after I've downgraded weekly dosage I definitely won't renew the script.
Hey doctors, and everyone! Can we take Finasteride (1mg) and PreP (Truvda/Ricovir/Tenof em etc) at the same time? Does it have any effect on each other?

Well, since nobody responded, I'll give my experience: I'm no medic neither I found a study about it, but I took them simultaneously for a year, nothing happened. I did have some stomachaches, but don't know if it was related. I used to take them both at 8pm, so I started taking finasteride earlier with lunch. Also I questioned my doctor who prescribed me prep and he said it was no big deal. But you gotta do the prep exams to keep watching how's your body doing.
Medical literature supports 5mg for women, as opposed to the dose of 1mg that is customary for men. For some reason, women don't seem to respond as well to 1mg. Which is interesting, as Dr. Knudsen mentioned that the response/dose curve flattens at around 1mg.
I do 2.5 mg a week for past few years. When I was taking higher doses, I was losing sensitivity and becoming numb in very specific important places where you don’t want that to happen. I had to stop the medication for a few months and thankfully I got some sensation back.
I was about to ask that I just got my medication today but I'm afraid that it might permanently effect my sex life with my gf sorry for faul language I'm just worried
I never got my sensation back. And it's not just sensation, there's all sorts of consequences for your relationship if you have a meh sex drive / interest in your partner.
I'm 26 and over the last two years my hair loss has been considerable, every time I see my friends and family, a recurring comment pops up " Gosh, you're going bald " and so, not having a actual completely bald spot yet, I decided to start as of today to take Finasteride, I find the three days a week schedule very interesting, and will apply it if i see secondary effects, even very slight ones. I guess I'll keep this thread going as to what goes from taking Generic Finasteride. (personally I was prescribed 5mg tablets, split into 4 (less expensive). So really my dosage is 1.25 mg /day so 3 times/week would make a LOT of sense with this kind of dosage, especially if the half-life is as long as Dr. Russel says)
Well, first update, it's been slightly more than one week. Here's what I've experienced. 1.25 mg of Finasteride / day was WAY too much for my system to handle. Within three days I had a noticeable loss of libido / erections / rogue erections daily, also had a little trouble getting it up at the end of day 3. It could be a nocebo effect, but I feel like this wasn't. So I halved the dosage down to 1.25mg every other day. I'm doing a lot better in terms of libido. Less rogue erections as without Finasteride, but pretty much the same Libido. So I think I struck a good balance. Also, I already noticed that very slowly, I seem to already be losing less hair. I would just pass my hand in my hair before and 10 hairs would fall away. These past few days I haven't seen more than 4 at once. It's a imprecise measurement. But still I've noticed a slight decline in hair loss from my biased point of view. Which Is weird, because for some it seems to be the opposite in the beginning of the treatment. Who knows maybe it'll do it to me on week 3 or 4. Either way, I'm prepared to have a increased loss over a few weeks if it happens. The important part would be not to stop the dosages. If any other symptoms such as lowered libido start being noticeable I will once again lower the dosage to half the current dosage every other day.
@@pedroffline As of now, I'm keeping the dosage at 1.25mg every other day. Hair-wise, not much change, some days I seem to still lose a bunch of hair and others I don't. Knowing this takes about 4 months to actually have any kind of visible effect, I'm conscient I have to be patient. Secondary effects seem negligible since I halved the dosage.
@@N.C.M. Im wainting a apoitment with a docter before I start. I usually hear about ppl taking 1mg daily, but the idea of taking a little less souds good for me. Thanks and good luck for us
As personal feedback, I tried the Finasteride and I had to stop. I did notice a good improvement, solid har, more strands, but at the price of fogginess slowdown productivity, insecurity and sexual drive went extremely down. Once I stop I did notice a substantial loss of hair daily. it seems like this medication holds the hair and as soon as you stop it just releases it... very strange. I am not sure if I will jump back. I hope my feedback helps.
Interesting. I’ve used finastride 1mg every day for 5 years and haven’t experienced any of these symptoms what so ever. Guess it effects different people in opposing ways.
@@Jay-eo3wl hmm my hairloss was pretty gradual, and I was not exactly too consistent with the use at times. That's why I said "i think". The hairloss really did get worse after stopping for good though. I obviously can't be sure, but maybe one could build a resistence to the substance especially with higher doses, and the effectiveness won't drop as quickly with the every 48 hr dose? Another thing one can't overlook is how the majority of the people taking these pills are in their 30~40's. We get less testosterone, we get depressed, we see bunch of assholes getting ahead in life around us, AND we are taking these pills, reminding us every time that there is something wrong with our body. Not exactly a great environment for libido. Oh and we're probably with a long term partner as well, which is, you know how things get... I mean, sure. Maybe the pills lower libido, strictly from the chemical effects of the substance in them. But I don't think it's so bad as to completely wipe away an average amount of sex drive a man would have, if he was content with his life. Oh, not assuming anything about your life here, of course. Just in general.
@@Jay-eo3wl Yeah I do think transplants are worthless as it doesn't address the root of the problem at all, and you are carving up your skin to "pour water in a cup with a hole in it." To be honest, I've half given up on my hairloss until they really come up with some crazy stemcell shit that will really change the game. I'm not into spending money and time to postpone the inevitable, while dumping a bunch of chemicals that I'll never know how they are made. They often put some real sketchy stuff in when they isolate chems and what not...
@@burger1113 Congrats, you scared yourself out of finasteride and lost your hair forever. Bravo. No future treatment will help you, if you don't have any hair to work with. No stem cell can regrow a dead hair follicle. Cheers!
I've been taking it for four years 1mg/day (maybe I skipped just 10days in this period), and I can clearly say that it gave me brain fog which I wasn't quite sure that I had this for all this time, now I think it's been a month that I stopped taking it and already I can feel the difference, my concentration is much better and I can focus on things with ease, and also I had difficulty remembering stuff which it is also recovering, I'm not going to take it anymore since can see that I was sensitive to this drug.

Try 3x a week, take a month off. Get tadalafil 2.5 generic everyday, you will be better off. Good luck
But if God had made me tall, confident, intelligent, talented, compassionate,
with a great body and a huge rock hard cock, and a full head of hair, it just wouldn't be fair to everyone else. So I’m willing to trade my hairline for some humility and character.

One question: I’m a physician myself and reading studies on pubmed I encountered the possibility of lasting side effects even after discontinuing of the drug. What can you tell about that?
Reference ?
🤷🏼♂️
If only the pharma companies would write on the bottle to not take 1mg everyday there would be a lot less reports of side effects.
Do you suggest taking zinc with finasteride to decrease the risk of side effects? and does using zinc with finasteride makes the finasteride less effective or it doesnt have any role in the decreasing or increasing the finasteride effect ?
helw el soal da
Hy my doctor recommended with zinc tablets, did it work for you. Pls reply
I also developed eye floaters while taking finasteride. They have never went away

@10:00 Delta of 0.5% is a 38% increase, so nothing to sneeze at. But, 5mg/day vs 3mg/week would see different numbers

Any update bro
How did it go?
@Foxtrot_Woof Thanks for your response. It is much appreciated.

@@eatthedots Did you watch the video above or just start typing? They recommended three days a week, because the half life for Finasteride is 30 hours. Don’t know what a half life is, look it up.

Not many things exites people after 45 - but regaining my looks made me feel like a don...

it's a treatment not a cure. YES! you need to be on it for life to keep the hair.. it blocks your balls from giving your head too much dht.
You are balding because your hair is sensitive to DHT. All it does is block it.. once you stop blocking it.. guess what.. you start receeding again.
And finasteride does not work wonders for your temples (the front) it works best on your crown and thickening existing hair a bit.

You think if I take two pills a week it still would get results with less side effects?

Initially you’ll have a spike in test, increased libido. I wouldn’t do one a day. That’s what I did for 6 months. Had sexual sides. I’d try 3x a week. It’s gonna happen.... just warning you.
@Myron Gaines
You don’t understand how the studies on the drug work.
@Myron Gaines
I have.
@Myron Gaines
I already explained it well.

Keep us posted. I've just started 0.5mg every 2 days so quite similar.
@@N.C.M. hey, 4 weeks later, please tell me if something changed =D
@@multiyumz did it grew again?
same!
@@ritoquesurf yes results have been very good.
@@multiyumz mate, does it cause beard thinning?
Finasteride response test? What does it reveal? Is it needed? Could you please make a video on it.
You make very informative videos.. Thanks a lot
Hmm okay very informative! I think I've been convinced to take it. Thank you!!
@@Jay-eo3wl nope. And it defo did stop the hairloss for the duration of me taking it, I think. Every 2 days like they said
@@Jay-eo3wl hmm my hairloss was pretty gradual, and I was not exactly too consistent with the use at times.
@@Jay-eo3wl Yeah I do think transplants are worthless as it doesn't address the root of the problem at all, and you are carving up your skin to "pour water in a cup with a hole in it."
To be honest, I've half given up on my hairloss until they really come up with some crazy stemcell shit that will really change the game.
Cheers!
@@milenavidmar2733what's your f** problem
I've been taking it for four years 1mg/day (maybe I skipped just 10days in this period),
and I can clearly say that it gave me brain fog which I wasn't quite sure that I had this for all this time, now I think it's been a month that I stopped taking it and already I can feel the difference, my concentration is much better and I can focus on things with ease, and also I had difficulty remembering stuff which it is also recovering, I'm not going to take it anymore since can see that I was sensitive to this drug.
Would be great if you could give some monthly updates on your journey in the future :)

@@theSup3rNerd hey sir, almost 8 months, and I've recovered 99% and I will say that most of the side effects didn't go away until 6 months in. it's crazy, to those people quitting finasteride just don't lose hope and the results will come eventually.
Could be placebo.
Any update brother ? Salam
I took finasteride for more than a year (with very good results) until I knew my wife was pregnant. My "baby" is now 13 yo with a tremendous genetics and super healthy. Side effects (sexual drive, semen viscosity and volume) were gone after stopping the drug.
Did you gain sexual desire and semen percentage back after stopping???
@@jonahdriedger9047 Yes, I wrote that at the end of my comment ;)
everyone's different, I'm 63 and began thinning at 60 .
i started a 1 mg per day a year a go, way too much--- bloated, low libido levels, depressed, foggy headed.
down to 4 mg per month. lower side effects, and enjoying a stable hairline
what if i want to have kids? How long will i have to wait?
I took finasteride in 2013 and developed hormonal side effects about a week later but was not married nor did I have girlfriend so I just kept taking it as I had no idea it can have long term side effects. Now I have been suffering from post finasteride syndrome for past 5 years which has had devastating impact on my life
What happened?
@@generalaspergers4205 multiple persistent sexual side effects, muscle atrophy, inability to gain any muscle despite lifting weights, fatigue, insomnia
