Two years before at the World Swimming Championships, Then Tanya Bogomolovia , not sure if last spelled correctly, almost beat Horner in the 200m Breast. Two years later, now Tanya Dangalakova beat Horner here in the Olympic Final. Not really a surprise in this final. Her emotions spilled over after her victory, and she was one of the 3 Women who denied the East Germans total dominance in terms of Gold Medals
She did though defeat the GDR girls the year before the race you mention- the 86 Worlds in Madrid. The year before Madrid, her home country hosted the European Championships in Sofia and her upset over the East Germans in the 200 breast, IMHO, may actually have been an even greater upset than this 100 race in Seoul. Based on two thoughts: first by winning thr race it prevented the GDR from attempting to win every female swim race that year.. also earlier that year, one of those 2 GDR girls she beat in the 85 Championship's 200 breast race and actually the same she beats here Silke Hoerner, swam the ONLY women's world record for '85, dipping under by just several hundredths the 5 yr old former WR set by Lina Kachushite of the Soviet Union in 4/1979.
what a moment for Bulgaria...both gold and silver..Tanya had it tough against the East Germans but she managed together with teammate Frenkeva...also because in breaststroke technique is paramount over strength
@@Parker528 she didn’t marry her coach, his husband is the man with the glasses. After the olympics games, my dad came with Tania in France and he started to coach young people and my mother was one of his swimmer. That’s in south of France that he met my mother, they fell in love and they had me...
Bulgaria hasn't won many Swimming medals... But when they do... It's emotional!
1st and 2nd place - incredible swimmers, killer sprints at the end. Wow!

@@mich7029 thank you 🙏
I remember that race, I was 14yo and thought (among other more swimming-related things) that she was very pretty.
Dangalakova annihilated the questionably successful East Germans. She coached me for a few months when I was in year Five at school. Well done, girl!
8:16 Was that the right moment for asking questions? It looks so embarrassing. Either way, big moment for Bulgaria!
LIVE BULGARIA!!!
She was my love... 😍
Von den Namen her her origin is from Eire.
Велико❤
Pelo Amor De Deus...Até A Bulgaria JÁ GANHOU MEDALHA DE OURO NA NATAÇÃO FEMININA...E AS BRASILEIRAS ? QUANDO IRÃO GANHAR MEDALHAS NUMA OLIMPÍADA ?
Where are you forgetting Cesar Cielo Filho? He's won some quite a lot of gold medals. :)
Watching the race on TV, I picked Dangalakova to win.
That senator must have felt bummed.
This s when the swimsuits started looking really sexy
