While I'm grinding to the F-14 I was already interested in getting to the crusaders and now that it's been moved down it should be wonderful to fly during the grind!
Aside from the aforementioned “wing-falling-off syndrome” it’s a beautiful plane. Back when I used it, the go-to strat was to climb high and then snipe with aim-9Ds. Always netted about 3kills with just the missiles, then it’d be about how I flew and if I ripped.
@@normallymute0131 tip: disable the new boosters modification and use combat flaps over 750kph, they will reduce your turn rate and make your wings stay where they should
@@fenix2-222 also another tip from a crusader enjoyer try not to roll while also using yaw, and like joob said dont pull as hard as you can at high speeds
Saw this thing was getting moved to 10.0 and knew exactly what to do. Got a buddy and flew a 2-man in it. We had a thing going where we would climb to super high altitude in close formation, and once we saw contrails coming towards us trying to contest altitude, we'd split right and left to get to a separation of around 4km. The poor dude pushing us would be forced to pick one of us if they didn't want to be purely defensive. Whichever one of us they were going for would bait while the other one would immediately start jockeying for a missile shot once the aspect got closer to side-on. They were too close to dive away. Damned if you do, and damned if you don't.
Its a long way to paradise. The F8U-2 is really good, once I saw it at 10.0 during the event I went ahead and aced the crew for that plane after learning to play it safe to not rip my wings and I say the danger of ripping your wings will teach you to conserve your energy when in a high energy state. If anyone is wondering how you bleed speed so you don't rip your wings, pull up when its safe to do so or when turning to engage an enemy aircraft. And if you have trouble with your guns try using the combat flaps below 540mph, it will raise the angle of your nose and give you a better shot.
my only issue with the F8U is i have a terrible habit of ejecting my wings because i'm used to every other plane/jet i fly being able to full pull and the worst issue is locking up.
I've been having a lot of fun making people remember why the f8 is the mig master. Migs are so overconfident from having to face overtiered and underperforming jets. So clapping their cheeks is a good feeling
Dropping from above to below wing critical mach during a turn does do strange things to flight performance in many planes - didn't know it was so profound in the F-8.
Every other match I get an ace with this thing. Also about the performance difference between this and the f8e, the f8e is faster in a straight line, has a bit stronger wings and is heavier by consequence. The F8u2 is lighter, climbs faster and turns better+ better energy retention / rate, also lower fuel consumption. The acceleration in a straight line is similar between them. Don't jump to conclusions that because the F-8e has more thrust that it means it is better, it also is 1000kg heavier

You solved a problem that shouldn’t be a problem. War Thunder players just want to go full throttle full speed and turn at 15 Gs all the time. That’s not how ANY aircraft works. It’s super easy, barely an inconvenience. Just manage your speed!!!

First manufactured in March 1955, The F-8 Crusader was the last carrier-based American fighter with guns as the primary weapon. The RF-8 Crusader was a photo-reconnaissance aircraft that played a crucial role in the Cuban Missile Crisis, providing essential low-level photographs impossible to acquire by other means. Naval Reserve units continued to operate the RF-8 until 1987. Coming from a previous generation, the Crusader was the best American fighter for dog fighting with Vietnamese MiGs. The Crusader would be credited with the best kill ratio of any American aircraft in the war, 19:3. A unique feature of the Crusader was its variable-incidence wing, capable of being raised at the front. Additionally, the entire leading edge was slatted, and the ailerons drooped with the flaps. This allowed for better low-speed performance and visibility, by permitting both a nose-low fuselage and a high angle of attack, during carrier landings. Nevertheless, the Crusader's low speed yaw behavior was always dangerous, in spite of the vertical fin increase, installation of skegs and strong dihedral built into its horizontal tail, among other modifications of the original project. Several modified F-8s were used by NASA in the early 1970s, proving the viability of both digital fly-by-wire and supercritical wings.
Also why are the Aim9Ds better than the Aim9Es?… your missiles are going like Mach 3, burning longer, and tracking better. My 9Es also ALWAYS go for flares, even a single flare and even when they are on burner. The 9Bs seem to ignore flares unless they spam 4-5 a second and aren’t burning. I think Gaijin just screwed up the programming of missiles somehow, or don’t full understand how to make them work as intended. One last note. I’ve had a guy 10,000 feet below me shoot an R3R straight up at me and had it hit me, even after I spiral climbed to evade it. That is not how Cold War era missiles worked, other than the Aim54(and I doubt even that missile would make the same shot). 9km range doesn’t mean vertical, and Mach 1.7 is not all that fast for a missile. it should not have been possible for that thing to travel straight up over 3km while also trying to lead me as I maneuvered.
