Agree. It's the reason the F-5E will never truly be a truly competitive aircraft since it's too slow to dictate fights. If someone doesn't want to play your game there's no way to really force them to.

I'm saying that, objectively, it will never be one of the all around strongest aircraft at its tier because it's too slow to dictate the terms of engagement. It's a beast in bfm, but have fun forcing a smart player to get in a bfm situation.

And that's exactly what it was designed for. It's not an interceptor like many people claim, it was designed as a pure day fighter.
Kelly Johnson interviewed Korean War pilots, and they said what they needed the most was speed, so they could pick their fights.
So what did he do? He built a jet for pure speed by wrapping a tiny airframe around the most powerful engine available at the time, and optimizing it for low drag at high speeds.

The difference is that the starfighter can regain its energy, the 262 will struggle to do it
One of the things that you didn't mention is that the F104 has an absurdly high flap takeoff speed. Its around 450 knots or 800kph. You can abuse this especially at higher altitudes to significantly increase your turn performance. Another thing is that you can max performance turn (13G pull) if you only pull horizontally. Cornering speed is around mach 1.1. You can use this to surprise people
700 mph IAS is about where you can pull 14g entirely horizontal

Gaijin should really implement a mechanic that gives the kill to the guy that did the most amount of damage to someone, because it's really frustrating when you set someone one fire or put someone on a flat spin and then someone comes in an finish him off and you are left with just an assist.
Kills were split eaven in quarters during WW2 for example

Doing a lot of damage to someone, but him still killing a team mate doesn't do the team good😅. I agree with what you're saying, but it is a complicated thing to implement.
@@martijn9568 yes, in that case is not a kill steal if he is still a threat despite being cripple, but still I think that the guy who did the most amount of damage should get the kill.
I think it should be how controllable their aircraft is. If they’re on fire then the credit gets frozen on who set it until the fire goes out or kills him. If they’re in a flat spin that should automatically count you as dead, especially if you have critical damage
You can also use this things flaps all the way up to like Mach 0.8 and can deploy them for a couple seconds even at max speed for a crazy AOA boost - have to turn them off quickly though but if you get the timing right your turn time is absolutely insane

Some of the tips you said for flying this aircraft have actually helped me play the f-104, when I got it, I didn’t know how to fly it, I usually got 0 score for every game, but recently I’ve been getting 2-4 kill games, same with some assists, it helped me grind out my a-10 today. Thank you for the tips 👍

Thank you from the bottom of my potato heart for making this vid. I am suffering HARD in the F-104J and just don't know how to fly it to even survive, never mind earn RP in. I'll be rewatching this a few times to try bashing it into my brain. o7

As a pencil plane enjoyer try this:
1) climb to 5000m and don’t get too far in front
2) five once you see 3 or 2 people spotted and clean at least one up.
3) don’t turn back in, disengage, repeat
Tbh this video doesnt really apply to the F-104J. Its almost the same plane but at a different BR. Im sorry to tell you this but that thing is the worst F-104 variant in the game and it's not gonna get easier from here. Trust me, Ive been there.
@@theRealests The f104G is one of my most played planes and it has a 68% win rate for a reason. Its stupid strong due to constant downtiers but you have to rat it out with speed and decently long range missiles
@@jacobdoolan4978 104G, not the J. The G has flares which helps A TON in these 104s especially at 10.7. The 104G was even at 10.3 too at one point with the CMs. The 104J is outright worse just cause of no CMs.

I found it really sustainable and effective to take the F-104C with 2 firebombs for destroying 1 base. Once you drop, you can turn around and pick off enemy attackers.

You uploaded this the night after I revisited thus jet. I hadn't touched it ever since it unlocked it a few years ago, and frankly it's so much fun to bully with the speed then die horribly
This is one of those planes that if you understand what you’re doing, on anything but a 10.0 uptier absolutely nothing can touch you. You can essentially win every game by yourself unless your team completely throws enough that the enemy wins on points.

It is such a minute upgrade, that it seems not worth the SL. At least back when it was a required plane to research to progress, now you dont even have to grind it so why bother
The A variant is the lightest and most agile F-104 in the game.
Since the Mirage F1c flight model is upgraded (It can pull 14-15g at high speed now, and its magic 2 just received IRCCM at Br 11.3) is there any change you will make a video revisiting it?

@@sparkling925 still wouldnt help, the F-104's wings provide so little drag because they provide so little lift. Induced drag is a byproduct of lift, this is why variable geometry wings are useful because you can optimize how much lift they are making, obviously if you are going slow you need more lift but when going faster you don't need as much lift generation, the only thing variable geometry wings would do for an F-104 would make it more maneuverable at low speeds

Is C model better or the A? They are at the same br and is A a bit lighter and less thrust? Both stock and I think I might choose one to spade it (both bought before the C merge into subtree of A model)
In the past I preferred the C because it had an RWR, rockets for makeshift flares, and an engine that didn't overheat so quickly. Now though, with it being at such a low BR and getting a later engine variant, the A is better. But they both fly about the same anyways so it's up to you whether you want a bit of extra flight performance or makeshift flares.

the Mig-21S premium is similar to this but replace the gun with silly headon radar missiles and less speed
These things are good but when downtiered to 8.7 they're complete menaces. Literally no one in the lobby can do anything about it but I find a fun strat. Baiting them to ground boom and zoom manoeuvres makes 50% of them crash into the ground in the first or second pass
This plane turns a lot better than most would expect if you get slow and pop flaps.
If you hit full elevator while going at around 700 mph you can pull 14g and turn quite quickly
You dont even need to slow down, if you dont let your take off flaps extend fully you can use them even at supersonic speeds.
@@rawhidelamp At low fuel it can pull 16g at 1250-1200 kph, so a little above 700 mph. But it just dumps speed there

Question, how do you do slight turns and keep the nose of your plane slightly up, down etc... When I press my WASD keys the plane will react but it will come to back to original position, if I keep it pressed, the plane will do a full turn, how do you slightly nose up, down like that while looking at your enemy? (I'm on PC but I play with controller btw)
Hold C while you free look, then press w or s
Just bind "free look"
While you free look you can pitch and the plane will not move back to its position.
Also i highly suggest since youre already on pc that you get used to playing with mouse & keyb since its easier than on controller (especially aiming)
@@boiiifuaintcare8629 it's really hard for me, I have more than 12 years playing on controller, my hands are freaking tight, can't hit the keys without looking. Also want to tank both of u, I found free look on controller, but still when I try to pitch up/down the plan will do a full pitch if I keep the key pressed, if I let it go, the plane will return to where my aim was, what I'm trying to figure out is how you do slight turns, pitchs, and keep the plane looking that direction, my goes back to normal position and if I keep the key pressed for too long it will try to do a full turn or roll, It's very hard to explain (English is my second language) I wish youtube allowed short clips in comments to show you exactly what I mean
@@elnewbie2611just throw away the controller. This game REQUIRES you to have a lot of kaybinds and even keyboard players sometimes don't have enough keys for actions, yet alone controller fans. Basically, sticking for a controller, you cut your effectiveness a couple of times.

Hi defyn, I keep getting mig21's on my 6 and I can't outrun them. If I do they will shoot a missile, I try to dodge it and then im dead or the mig-21 shoots me down. Can you please explain how to beat the mig-21.

Huh, I usually get kills with this thing like crazy, rarely if ever does it just crit and not kill, and I have so far only tried the german variant, the Italian upgraded one seems interesting, it sits at a different BR spot and has slightly beefed up capabilities.

I love the free kills the 104s are for my Mirage IIIE…can‘t outturn me, can‘t outrun me, they only can outaccelerate me.
But - making me maneuver to take advantage of the speed burn the Mirage is famous for once I‘m on their 6 in order to actually outaccelerate me and having a chance of getting away - basically means giving me an opportunity for a kill…which usually results in a kill.
Its always funny watching groups of pissed off enemy aircraft try and follow me around like a bunch of ducklings. They'll never catch up but boy will they try

My problem with it its not avoiding enemy planes, its actually getting kills with it, either "teammates" kill the plane i was going after first, or i miss all my shots before overshooting the enemy plane (stock grind is a pain here, i teally need 9B's)

The t2 is great at dealing with f104. It is only a little bit slower and can dodge well and the it just got the aim9ps which are good missiles and f104 cant dodge those. I always kill them flbecause they are really good at slowing other people down which really helps the team
