  • Entombed is of course mostly known for their death metal pioneer era as Swedish death metal early birds. However, most of their material is not exactly death metal - or even metal - but rock music. Let's talk about their discography and also mention Entombed A.D. while at it.

    I get the impression that I'm the only guy on the planet that loves "DCLXVI- To Ride, Shoot Straight and Speak the Truth", for me it's tied with "Left hand Path". Except for that album, I agree with your ranking.

    Entombed, dark tranquillity, at the Gates, in flames, dismember, sacramentum, unanimated (naglfar, lord belial, dawn) etc were great swedish death metal.

    For me Top 3 is
    3. Wolverine Blues
    2. Left hand path (Best vocals)
    1. Clandestine (Best riffs)

    'Wolverine Blues' stays my highlight since then you can hear the Rock and Death Metal mix in the first place. They were on the spot reaching for this direction.

    1) Clandestine is my favorite, but also 2)Left Hand Path and 3)Wolverine Blues are really good. I think the Entomed A.D is way better than the Entombed albums after Wolverine Blues (maybe except Morning star)

    • @RautaMetal
      @RautaMetal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed! Entomved A.D. is better on average than Entombed. How ironic.

  • @DefenestratedMessiah
    @DefenestratedMessiah 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    for me Entombed AD was just Entombed w/ a different logo, instead of a new band. as you said these albums were miles ahead of everything since Wolverine Blues and actually sounded closer to the "true" Entombed sound, especially 'Bowels of Earth', the best of the three imo.
    PS, apparently the "real" Entombed is planning a new release of some kind. there have been teases, and pics from the studio and stuff. not sure what will come of it but it's interesting...album or EP? will it be death metal or rock? time will tell.

    • @Gregbaltzer
      @Gregbaltzer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Entombed A.D. is pretty much the majority of guys from the previous Entombed line up. It was Alex who was holding up the band from, and L.G. and the rest of the guys wanted to get out there and play and create music. I always got the feeling that L.G. was the one trying to keep it real, while Uffe, Alex, and Nicke's interest in Death Metal waned. I really enjoy the Entombed A.D. albums a lot.

    • @RautaMetal
      @RautaMetal  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @DefenestratedMessiah Yeah, we're on the same page with this. Can't say, however, I have much interested in new and incoming Entombed material - based on what they have done since Wolverine Blues.

    • @DefenestratedMessiah
      @DefenestratedMessiah 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Gregbaltzer yeah especially Uffe, his interviews give a bad impression of him at least to me. totally jaded and not interested in metal at all, and he even talks about being "embarressed" by the Entombed fans on tour....um, ok??? Nicke and Alex seem like genuine down to earth guys but LG definitely embodied *metal* the most.

    • @Gregbaltzer
      @Gregbaltzer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DefenestratedMessiah I heard the reason Uffe quit was because he said "he wasn't having fun anymore". In a 2016 interview Uffe was asked "You know, you've been into the music business for so long, what can you say about the metal scene as it is today? Do you follow it? Do you check out the new and young bands? Do you listen to the newest albums from the Death Metal veterans too?
      - I don’t think I’ve been a part of a Death Metal scene since the early 90’s to be honest. I didn’t like the way the scene were and did everything to stay out of it, there are bands I don’t want to be connected and in a scene with. I like the HC/Punk scene much more, people are more open about things I care about"

    This is where we kind of differ. I have all of Entombed/Entombed A.D.'s albums. I love them all. The way I look at it is that there are enough bands doing the full on Death Metal sound that Entombed doing a more Death and Roll sound was refreshing to me, because it was different than what most bands were doing. I would rather listen to what Entombed were doing than listen to 10 more Death Metal bands who never strayed from the path. I love hooks/grooves/and catchy chorus in metal. But I don't think I could do a best to worst, because I like them all. I could just do a albums I listened to the most vs. albums that I didn't listen to as much. The albums I listened to the most were LHP, Clandenstine, Wolverine Blues(my introduction), Hollowman EP(which is a great companion piece to Wolverine Blues), Uprising(I loved this album, used to work out to it a lot), Same Difference(I know you hate it, and I was thrown back by it at first, but the more I listened to it the more I grew to love it's laid back bluesy vibe. I loved the songs, the riffs. It was just suited me when I was in a more laid back mood), and Inferno(my god those songs were catchy as fuck!). Serpent Saints falls in the middle, I listened to it a fair amount, along with the When In Sodom EP. I expected you to like this album more. I has a more raw production and they were really going for a more return to Death Metal sound on this album. And it has that song Masters of Death, which is a shout out to the Death Metal scene and classic bands/albums. It's a fun song. The albums I listened to the least are To Ride, Shoot Straight, and Speak the Truth, and Morning Star(but I love the song Chief Rebel Angel).

    • @RautaMetal
      @RautaMetal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's fine to differ because at least that creates conversation :) I respect Entombed as a band but I just don't like most of their albums. That's it. If some other ppl like their death'n'roll, it's okay. It's not taking anything from me.

    Curious if you ever checked out the Nihilist Demo CD? I have it. It's really good and an interesting listen. Plus Johnny from Unleashed is still in the band then. Sadly I never found out about Firespawn until after L.G.'s passing. I've since gotten all those CDs and really enjoy them a lot. Nicke kind of came back to Death and Roll with Death Breath, which I like. There is suppose to be a second Death Breath album already finished for years. Not sure what ever became of it, or when it will see the light of day.

      Gotta say I never remembered to check out that Nihilist demo cd. Firespawn is/was really good! Better than Entombed in fact.

    • @Gregbaltzer
      @Gregbaltzer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RautaMetal The Nihilist demo Cd is totally worth it. It's a 14 song compilation of all their demos, and the production is good to really good, depending on the demo. Bass is really loud in the first three songs. But it's a fun listen. It's a hell of a lot better than those pre-Death Mantas demos, which I didn't really enjoy. It's probably one of the only demo albums I'd recommend

    What's point in reviewing albums in a genre you don't like?
    Two Entombed albums are death metal. The others are not.
