    I saw Entombed live in 1992 while stationed in Germany serving in the U.S. Army. I was 18. I went alone. It was a frightening and exciting experience for an 18 year old far from Flint, Michigan.

      OP, my list mirrors your own. Left Hand Path is famous for many reasons. Clandestine has some bangers and is a worthy followup. Wolverine Blues has grown on me over the years, and that is why it is #3. The HM2 sound is still present on WB, but they mixed it up and I like that. The rest is...........okay, but I haven't listened to nearly enough of their later stuff to make a ranking on that.

    Ok this is my new favourite channel. I miss being young and shooting the shit with friends about music. I know you guys are not young but it's nice to see freinds stay connected through music. All my freinds got married, had kids or got bored with it. Rin makes me laugh, comedic twitcher. Reminds me of Professor Frink 🤪

    True Story: I had the regular version of Wolverine Blues on Cd when I saw a used copy of the Marvel version at a store. I was really into limited editions of CDs so I traded in my regular version and bought the Marvel version with the Wolverine comic book inside. I went home started playing it, noticed that the part "Jesus, Hitler, Satan, bought my soul" was completely removed from the song Hollowman, in an obvious edit, and the song Out of Hand was removed and I think replaced with Put Off the Scent from the Hollowman ep. I guess Marvel objected to some of the lyrics for the album. Anyways I took the fucking thing right back to the record store, gave it back to them and got my regular edition back. Fuck the marvel edition.

      Interesting. I had a Wolverine comic book that had an ad for Wolverine Blues on the back cover. Wish I still had it. I wonder if it was the same comic that you're talking about? I bought the comic book on it's own from a convenience store so It's probably different. Marvel objecting to the lyrics is lame. I would've done the same thing you did.

      i have the Marvel version but it has only 9 tracks; Out of Hand is removed and "Put Off the Scent" wasn't put in its place.
      Differences of the Marvel version:
      1. Eyemaster:
      'Hellraiser III' movie sample "I am the way" NOT removed at 0:10 second mark.
      2. Rotten Soil:
      'Flatliners' movie sample "Wake up you little shit, you got company!" removed at 3:00 minute mark.
      8. Hollowman:
      the line "jesus, satan, hitler - bought my soul" removed at 3:06 minute mark and also removed from the CD lyrics insert.
      10. Out of Hand was removed from this version.
      Various swear words are also removed.

    I saw Entombed in 1994 at a concert in Warsaw/Poland. They played with Napalm Death and they were supported by Vader and Sparagmos. Strong Eareche Rec. I already knew them well and their first albums and that's why I wanted to see them live. They promoted "Wolverine Blues". It was something different from what they presented earlier but the guitars crushed with their heavy sound. OG's of Swedish Death Metal. 🤘

      @@thrallsofmetal Hey... still a great album. But in my book it's easily eclipsed by Clandestine when it comes to their early strict DM stuff. To be honest all top 5 records in my list are great albums as far as I'm concerned. And besides Serpent Saints, Back To The Front, Bowels Of The Earth and Inferno (that I think are utterly boring and uninspired) I think the other 3 albums also have stellar moments (yes, even Same Difference). As for Left Hand Path itself I must confess I saw it even lower in some lists and although I don't agree with either them or you it's 100% fine. After all it's all a matter personal taste.

    I had a similar experience like Johnny had with Nihilist where my old band broke up then reformed without me under another name. But in my bands situation they ended up suffering lineup changes that quickly broke up the band for good. My brother did a no show and they were forced to play live without a bassist. Then the drummer left right after and then it was just 2 left and they tried starting another band together but it just didn't work out.
    RIP to original Nihilist member Leif Cusner. He was pretty much the creator of the buzzsaw guitar sound. Also RIP to LG Petrov. Dismember would be a good ranking. I hope they release another album. One of my favorite bands.

    I have a soft spot for Morning Star. When l was in my late teens and was discovering new bands, l'd read interviews and reviews that would namedrop Entombed and their sound as an influence, so l always thought of them as a band l need to check out. Back then Uprising was the newest album and l'd see the video for Say It in Slugs occasionally on tv and l liked ot. But then Morning Star came out and it was the first album l legitimately got and listened to properly. And it sure kicks ass!

      Necrotic Nick- That thrashy vibe on songs like Eye for an Eye, About to Die and Ensemble of the Restless always made me want to come back to it. Uprising for me was a hell of a comeback and there's just something about that sleezy album that's just pure fun to listen too. It feels like a drinking album honestly. lol.

    Hot Take... Unreal Estate is my #1 Entombed album. It's like a best of compilation, with the added weirdness of it being recorded live as part of a ballet. This was the first time I heard there was a "Marvel" alternate version of Wolverine Blues. Wonder if that makes Entombed part of the MCU? 😂

I figured there would be a lot of pivoting between Clandestine and Left Hand Path as 1st and 2nd best albums. They're both amazing so I can see why.

    Really dig Clandestine (amazing playing on this one, it's still death metal but it grooves like a m.f; a very rare mix) just a fraction over Left Hand Path. Wolverine Blues is also a banger, though perhaps a bit one dimensional.
    I never got into anything else, they always seemed a bit directionless and faceless once they left Earache. This video has persuaded me to give Morning Star another try.

    Such an odd discography to rank. Without a doubt my top 3 are the first three, probably in the order of their release. I like Death N Roll(and Black and Roll, and probably any metal that 'and rolls'), but i haven't heard a couple of the latter ones before the AD days.
    Despite the wild variety, these guys overall rank pretty highly for me(the majesty of LHP goes a long way).

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Necrotic Nick- Actually, that was one of the appeals to this one for me. They had a really broad sound and pioneered 2 distinctly different approaches to death metal. Some mistakes were made but I liked that they took some fun chances in their career. The first 2 are golden to me but I really enjoy Uprising and Morning Star in their later years. The Entombed AD stuff is really solid too.

    I get the popular consensus is Left Hand Path #1, but for me, as amazing as that album is, if it wasn’t for Wolverine Blues being the perfect bridging album between bands like Metallica and Megadeth (and any other heavy and riffy bands in their 90’s era style of music) and Pure Death Metal, than myself and many people I know, wouldn’t have had that perfect album that bridged the gap and led you to Entombed and other bands more extreme music. Therefore, Wolverine Blues is by far my number 1 Entombed Album as it was the album that not only opened the door to Death Metal, but as I was trying to get a sneak peak through the open door they gave me a swift kick in the back that forced me through the door never to return.
    Now, with that said, of course “Left Hand Path” is #2, “Clandestine” #3, (“Hallowman EP” and the “Self Titled” B-Sides album fitting perfectly in the next spots, but they aren’t part of this so we move on), Then, although I know the flaws of “To Ride, Shoot Strait….” It is my #4 do to the fact that the first song on it has one of the most fun riffs ever, plus it was the last album I ever took a lot of time to become acquainted with as the follow up was so bad I never really checked in again until this video other than Black JuJu which helped keep me scared away. Now, after checking this video out I went back and realized I really like “Uprising” and “Morning Star”, and with some more time “Inferno” and “Serpent Saints” could grow on me. I may not agree with the lack of respect for Wolverine Blues, but this video did help me give the later albums a chance after many years which is awesome. Thank you!

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Necrotic Nick- I definitely hear you about Wolverine Blues. That was the album that introduced me to the band and while it didn't seem to really fit in anywhere it was this cool 90's oddity of an album with it's own unique appeal. I thought about including Hollowman and When in Sodom but we decided to stick to just the full lengths. Uprising and Morning Star have become 2 of my favorites over the years. I would even say that they did the death n' roll sound a bit better on Uprising than they did on Wolverine Blues but I do love both. I think all of their albums have their appeal (even Same Difference) and I just love that they really created a lot of different albums through the course of their career. Glad you dug the video, man!

    I got into Entombed in 1992, watched the "Revel in Flesh" live video from the Gods of Grind Tour on Headbangers Ball. Bought Left Hand Path and shortly after Clandestine. The Left Hand Path t-shirt is at also almost 30 years the oldest, most washed out t-shirt I still own. Have listened to both albums so many times but after all these years, Clandestine is my #1, Left Hand Path is #2, then Wolverine Blues as #3. After that the gap was so long that I never bought another Entombed album, what little I head never had me excited at all. Was more into technical death metal so that kinda stoner rock approach they brought didn't hit the mark for me. Weird how that goes sometimes.

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Necrotic Nick- I got into them around '94 or '95 when I saw the Wolverine Blues video on Beavis and Butthead. The style was right up my alley since I was huge into Sepultura and Pantera at the time.That's sick you got a vintage shirt. I had to settle for a reprint from Hells Headbangers but I love the fuck out of it. I think because I heard Wolverine Blues first the later stuff was easier for me to get into. I ended up getting into nu metal before I got back into death metal again but going back Left Hand Path just grabbed ahold of me and wouldn't let go.
