SMASHED 25 Speckled Trout (with no other boats around)

  • Join LAFB Elite to discover how I find and catch speckled trout and redfish from scratch: www.lafbelite....
    Targeting springtime speckled trout in Louisiana is difficult when all the well-known spots have tons of boats in them.
    That's why I like to strike out on my own and find new fishing spots (using the knowledge inside Inshore Fishing 101) to get away from the crowds and catch quality speckled trout.
    This video is a perfect example of that, because it shows that not every spot you pick out is going to produce.
    But, if you don't give up, and keep trying when the conditions are good, you WILL hit paydirt and put together an awesome box of speckled trout!
    Join my membership at LAFB Elite and I'll show you exactly how: www.lafbelite.com

    Seeing these trout are bringing back memories of the great fishing that me and my uncle used to have in Cloverly, Delta Farms and even lake Salvador. Unfortunately I've been living way up on the Northshore for 20 yrs and haven't spent much time in the marsh...closest I've been is lake rd in Lacombe a few times over the past 5 yrs. Keep up the great work

    Beautiful specks. Nothing like it. Great to see some catch and release action down south. I live in Wyoming and release almost every fish I catch. But I keep quite a bit back home in La.

    If you notice, the skunk trout was not caught in the mouth. I have noticed that when the bite is not on, the trout tend to push bait with thier face and as you see, get hooked under the mouth or in the gill plate. It's very interesting if you look at where all your hook sets are.

    • @LAFishBlog
      @LAFishBlog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Or...she tried eating it and got hooked on the outside of the face.

    • @johnkarges8829
      @johnkarges8829 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There’s a good video on trout hits that shows they often bump or nudge a lure instead of hitting it open-mouthed which leads to missed hookups or foul-hooked fish.

      I know that, and have a whole article on it: www.lafishblog.com/what-the-hell-is-that-rod-stick-pole-looking-thingamajig/
      and
      www.lafishblog.com/important-feature-oyster-reefs/
      But that one is NOT used to mark an oyster bed.
      It's marking something else.
      Small, white poles sitting lone on the shoreline do not mark oyster beds, either.

    Another great video Devin! I fish vicariously through you while at work. ;-) After many years of trout fishing, I've never really tried suspended baits. I tend to do the same thing over and over again. I think they call that "insanity" lol. I need to step up my game. What dictates you using suspended baits vs. Matrix Shad with lead head vs. popping corK?

    • @LAFishBlog
      @LAFishBlog  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just tie one on and start throwing it anywhere you'd normally throw a cork.
      Save the jig for deep water.
      Just fish it a bunch. If you wait for a green light to do it you'll probably end up doing the same thing you've always done and never grow confident with it.

    I’d venture to say most of those community holers didn’t fill/limit their boxes. Some (live baiters)probably tapped out when the tide quit around 11:00hrs. What I’d like to ask is this: between trout #20 & 21 you had an object drift past or you drifted past it. It appeared to be a thick oil spot on the surface. If so could it be something of interest needing addressing? Hopefully not, but in our laissez-faire attitudes of some coastal dwellers one can never be quite sure. If you review the video and see or identify it would you give an opinion on it please? Thanks for the videos. They sure help to drive a point across to some of my etched in stone fishing buddies.

    I fished that area yesterday with top water. Had some blow ups but did not catch. Will make me rethink how much time I give an area. They had a loon working by the rocks, bait fish and a few misses on top. Should have spent the time and changed tactics.

      @@claudeyarborough7532 It really depends on the shot you want.
      My establishing shot (from the back of the boat) was always a wide angle, but I've found linear looks better, just be sure to turn the camera if you're only facing in one direction.
      5K on the Hero 9 doesn't allow for linear mode, but you can crop the hell out of it so it works anyway.

    • @LAFishBlog
      @LAFishBlog  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@claudeyarborough7532 But for my chest cam it's only 1080 in wide, there really isn't anything to crop, and with linear you'd only see my hands.

    Can you do a video review of your boat ?
    Thank

      I think that's a great video idea, but am curious as to why? There's tons of info out there about Trackers. They've been around for decades. There isn't anything I can put in a video that's not already out there. Just curious.

    do you do any fishing on the ms gulf coast?

    • @LAFishBlog
      @LAFishBlog  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really. Not because I don't want to but because there's not that much time.
      Believe it or not, the majority of the work required to run LAFB is NOT fishing, so when I do go I need to make the most of it.
      With that said, on calm days I'l launch from Pass Christian to fish the East Biloxi Marsh and Breton Sound.

    I fish the Grand Isle area, so I'm not familiar with the area you were in. It seems to be a flat next to a channel exit into a bay. Correct? Or what were the structure bottom conditions?

    • @LAFishBlog
      @LAFishBlog  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just a random bank that sets up a lot like the beach on Grand Isle.

    Why would you do catch and release, just for the next person to catch them and keep them? That’s why we have limits. Now I do believe the speck limit needs to be adjusted to 15 specks a person and size limit up to 15 inches as well. Charter fisherman are wiping out the speck population while the bow fisherman are doing the same with redfish. I wish bowfishing for reds would be illegal.

    • @LAFishBlog
      @LAFishBlog  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or maybe the next person will catch and release as well?
      And charters only account for something like 18% of all specks that are caught (in Louisiana).
      So....no. It's not charters. It's the average inshore angler or...rather....the above-average ones.
      Catch and release is something we all benefit from, and steak tastes better anyway.
      Thanks for watching.

      Males tend to croak, whereas females do not. It's how they locate each other to form drumming aggregations during their spawn.

      I made it perfectly clear where I launched from in the morning: Bait, Inc. That's at Bayou Bievenue, MRGO and Lake Borgne, if you're too lazy to look.
      All the guys I know who can actually fish never ask me where I'm fishing at.
