      @@jackhoff2189 Change your transmission oil and filter every 80,000 along with the rest of your differentials. Use a Amsoil PI fuel system cleaner every 5,000 miles. At least use a good WIX synthetic oil filter with a good full synthetic oil. Change plugs every 70,000 and gap them at .028. Oh yeah, make sure you don’t over tighten your oil filter, these engines have an oil filter that’s in line with the crankshaft and when it’s too tight it won’t allow the anti drain back valve to seal. 475,000 miles on mine and counting

    I have a 2013 F-150 with the 3.5 Ecoboost with 122,000 miles and I love it. The water pump had to be replaced due to an intermittent leak and about 4 months ago the high pressure fuel pump malfunctioned but that’s it at this point. I use Ford full synthetic oil and the Ford filter done by the dealer mostly because it’s convenient. I’ve driven cross country numerous times with no problems. Driving from CA to PA on I-80 most of the speed limits are 80 mph some I’m doing 80 mph on cruise control and it’s only turning 2K rpm. 22.5 mpg w/out ac on, I’m not complaining.

I buy all my vehicles used , first thing I do when I buy one is as follows. I do most the work myself. change all the radiator hoses, serpentine belt, radiator flush , change out the red antifreeze to the green, change the thermostat, plugs , wires, check trqnny fluid, drain refill the transfer case, battery, and brakes if needed, I've gotten so many miles of most used vehicles I've bough bt doing these things. rust is the reason why I eventually sell them off

      @777jones 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes most vehicles can be correctly maintained and will keep running in top shape almost forever. But people just don't understand maintenance. MAINTAIN-ance. Right?
      But it won't stop salt and rust. Every time the motor heats up, rust gets activated and the vehicle eats itself. By age 18 you are about done.

      Saul Moreno I’ve had a 2001 and 2007 F-150s, both with 4 speed autos. Drove the 2001 to 200,000 miles before selling it. Never touched the motor (4.2 V6) did have to do some trans work at 150K, but that thing was worked as a landscaping truck in hot ass Las Vegas it’s whole life so I can accept that. Ran fine when I sold it.
      I’ve got the 2007 with the 5.4 now, currently at 140,000 miles. No major work done to it, just fluids, brakes, plugs and tires. Also used as a work truck 80% of the time. Plan to keep it to 200,000+
      Synthetic oil changes with a motor craft filter every 5,000 miles religiously. All of my other fluids and filters done on time too.
      I’ll buy another F-150 within a year or two, just not sure which motor to pick yet. I wouldn’t want the first year of any of them if I could avoid it, but I feel that way about most things. Let them work the bugs out first. I am looking forward to the 6 or 10 speed transmission, as the 4 speed is a bit of a clunky dog.

    I have had 2 ecoboosts and they have been reliable, and city driving is brutal on engines. I noticed when you first started it after the oil change, you could tell by how long it took for pressure to build, there was no engine rattle from draining the pan on the first startup! Indicates a tight engine. Ive had new engines that will rattle on first start up after an oil change. One thing that I like to do though, and this is my choice, is to prime the engine when first starting after a change. I pre fill the filter, and then holding the throttle pedal all they way down, which is flood mode, crank the engine till pressure is built. Then start it. Its a bit extra I know, and might not make a lot of difference, but it doesn't hurt either. Maybe a little extra wear on a starter motor. Well done video, thanks

    The roller-style timing chain used on the first year ecoboost is clearly a much better design. Ford changed it over to a silent chain the next year and that's when all the timing chain issues started to show up. I wish Ford would go back to the roller chain. Yeah it's noisier but if it improves the longevity of the engine, shouldn't Ford use it? deal with the noise a different way.

    I have a 2007 F150, Lariat, 4 x 4 with the 5.4 V8 with over 130,000 miles, same color as that one. I have changed oil every 10,000 miles, replaced front brake pads once, rear brake pads recently for the second set, and am on the 3rd set of tires. I did my spark plugs at 80,000 miles and have had to replace 3 coils. All of this is regular maintenance. The only issue I have had with this truck is the air bag went bad and had to be replaced. Everything is bone stock and still looks great inside and out. With the exception of my Nevada Pin Stripe, from a few years of hunting and some pretty rough terrain, the paint looks great, too. A lot of people are surprised to know it is 10 years old. I average about 15.8 MPG mixed city highway driving and have gotten up to 23MPG on the highway if I keep it at 65MPH. I love this truck.

      Its more about the truck not being naturally aspirated thats important. This truck made more HP/TQ, had better gas mileage and performed faster and more efficient under a 8,000lb load than the rest of the 1500 class at the time.. The naturally aspirated 3.7L, 4.0L, 4.6L and 5.0L have all reached 1m miles under Fords care as well. Nissan and Toyota have spent upwards of $50m investing in a custom patented Cummins diesel just to out perform the Ecoboost models, that should say a lot. Not many people have the intelligence to realize the trucks are on around 14-20psi daily unlike the naturally aspirated engines that struggle for power.

    I've got a 2014 Ford F150 Platinum 3.5 Ecoboost. I'm the 2nd owner. I bought it August of 2021 with only 31K miles on it. Still looks and smells brand new. It came from Arizona. I'm in Tennessee. A expensive Invisabreak was installed on it. I do believe it was mostly pulled behind a very large RV. Reason being for the Invisabreak, pig tail on the front bumper and the factory chrome tow hooks replaced with different style anti-sway tow adapters. A Retrax aluminum bed cover was installed and a bed extender and it a 6-1/2 foot bed. I use it to drive to town when I need to. I drive it to doctors appointments and I pull my 17.5ft aluminum bass boat. I'm only getting 13 mpg hauling my boat and 16 mpg city. And I absolutely baby the throttle. Just every once in awhile I'll make the turbos work. Just to clear it out and work the waste gates. I have just recently put a S&B cold air intake on it. To see if that would help my meg's. Not much added so far. Then I bought a SCT Livewire TS+ with a 5 Star custom 87 Eco tune loaded to the ECM. And still getting right at the same mpg. Am I missing something? Since the 2011 F150 3.5 Ecoboost in the video is getting over 20 mpg plus. While also pulling a 16ft box trailer? Thanks

    I know the feeling on the filters. Have an 07 ram with a Hemi, when i bought it, chrysler said to use either a Mopar or Wix filter (wix makes the mopar ones), and to never use fram... after fram had the problem with anti-drainback valves failing and getting sucked through the engines... i think chrysler will still void your warranty for installing a fram filter :)

    I have a 2015 F150 with a 3.5L Ecoboost. Recently, I'm seeing a lot of information about installing a catch can on these engines and, basically, any direct injection engine especially if it's boosted to avoid fouling of the intake valve and other related problems. That said, did this engine have a catch can installed? If not, that makes me question the value of catch cans. Any comment you may have on this subject would be appreciated because I'm trying to decide if I should go with a catch can setup.
