Hi Ara! You can recycle your old towels. Most animal rescue locations will take them especially if they are thick like the one you used for the roofing. ~Chellie~
Thank you! I meant I couldn't drop it into the recycle bin... but this is a great reminder for what you can do with old towels! I will make sure to pin it so if others are wanting to find something to do with their towels ;)
Mind QT That is a great suggestion, the thing is that Ara had an old towel and she repurposed it. It’s a good example of using what you have around the house to make something amazing. Here in Australia we are only allowed to shop for essentials, going to the hardware or craft shop are not essential and so we need to order on line.
This is what I do for our animal shelter, I make dog and cat beds. First of all I never throw out old pillows or cushions.
I cut two squares sew them on 3 sides, stuff with stuffing from old pillows sew the forth side and there you have a cosy dog or cat bed.
I know they are cosy because I make these for our dog, he loves them we have several around he house. We have a very spoilt pooch.☺️☺️🤣🤣😂😂

This project screams Sword in the Stone. All I can think of is Madam Mim sleeping on the roof on a cloudy day, waiting to pester Merlin when he gets home...
That was my fav Disney movie growing up!
I think the idea of eventually having a dragon on the roof is a great idea especially with the tumbled down tower, it makes me think that maybe the dragon was a pet that got too big and knocked the top off the tower by accident but the residents dont mind cause its easier use the tower to visit the dragon if there is no roof

Perfectly amazing how a towel drapes comfortably into a thatched roof 💖. A dragon on the roof is always appropriate, and your Earth Dragon has its foot at a perfect angle.
Ara I love this project. Please continue. It's so much less serious than the normal dollhouse stuff. I'm currently pregnant and we are all going through these crazy times, it's nice to have a project where it feels ok to make mistakes and be a little silly. After all, it's only cardboard. And it feels a lot more like it's ok to use whatever you have around the house (a necessity under stay at home orders) instead of getting something exact. I think it is the perfect project for this time. And I LOVE the dragons! Please make some furniture and whimsical things you might find in a fairy tale house. This is downright cheerful!

I would love to see it fairy furnishings would be great ( a hanging bed, wicker hanging chair, bookcase with just Nature books, maybe a hidden book about OMG PEOPLE 😁) Whatever you decide will be a joy to watch!
Never ever would I have thought to use an old towel for a thatched roof, bloody brilliant! I am definitely tucking that piece of knowledge away in my mental toolbox! Thanks Ara. This series must have been a real godsend for so many people during the lockdowns, keeping them sane with crafts they can do from things around the home. I'm loving it for sure.

I would love to see you continue this project, it is so interesting to see what can be done with these types of materials. It reminds me of my childhood when my grandpa made me a cardboard doll house. It was far simpler than this but he also used recyclable materials or things that didn't have any other use, such as scrap fabric for curtains and carpet, wallpaper scraps, etc. It was one of my favourite things when I was little and so this project feels very nostalgic and lovely.

I’m recently retired and I’m now rediscovering my love of miniatures. I love your TH-cam channel, you are so creative and offer lots of great tips and ideas. Unfortunately now my head is filled with too many ideas. I love this idea of using the cardboard, I definitely have enough of that. Over the last two days I’ve watch your cardboard house/furniture projects and have an idea for my own cardboard project, just waiting for that perfect Amazon box to arrive. Ironically last night we watched the movie “Dave Made a Maze” on Prime. If you haven’t seen it you definitely need to check it out. It’s about a guy who builds a giant maze/labyrinth out of cardboard in his apartment then it takes on a life of it’s own. I told my husband hopefully that wouldn’t happen to me. Thank you for all your inspiration and keep up the good work!

I love this. The earth dragon physically fit better, but I like the idea of the sea dragon better. I’m so inspired to start creating my own house, last thing I need is more projects though.

I love this project. It's whimsy is just what I'm looking for these days. Please continue working on it if you are so inspired. I would love to watch. I vote for the earth dragon. This just seems so much more a deep-in-the-woods type of cottage to me.
I would LOVE to see more recyclable tutorials for this house! Also both dragons are really cute but I think I like the earth dragon better, they just look so comfy on there.
I love how your mind works; you are so creative! Perhaps a dragon on the roof whose tail has knocked over the top of the tower. Would love to see whimsical furniture made from curly willow or wall art made from moss. Whatever you create makes me smile.
This is so great! I think the sea dragon would look awesome, and the tower could be a broken lighthouse tower :-). Maybe a sea witch or wizard could live inside and have cool furniture and decor.

I like the land dragon sleeping on the roof, and in side it a cottage that a wizard lives there. One room looks like his library, a norther could be where he make positions. I like to see it finished.

Yes, please keep going! Honestly, I'd love to see where your creativity takes you until it's completely furnished, etc. Your workflow and thinking seem different (yet similar) to your other work and it's so interesting to get to follow along with you on your journey. I have to admit that during these trying times, the more relaxed approach allowed by the materials is very soothing too. What I think could be really interesting is to see how you tackle the interior in light of what you've said about the foundations - the ease with which you can explore whimsical and wonky shapes and ratios. Of course, you should only do the project if it gives you enjoyment from start to finish, but there is something so incredibly beautiful about using ''trash'' to create art. In other words - this is an amazing, beautiful project and if you decide to furnish and decorate all of the insides with recyclables, we'd be very fortunate to be allowed to join you.
I think you are so right! There is something freeing about just creating without too much restraint and "perfection". I am enjoying it a lot and will be back working on it after the live stream this week ;)
I love this house! I appreciate the way you reuse so many things. I think the house needs some fairies and a fairy queen. The dragon is too heavy for such a whimsical house.

Oh, and an earth dragon, to me, seems to fit better with the house. You have stone, wood and thatch for the house. It just seems like an earthy dragon would be just perfect.

Just delightful! I can picture either dragon, really. I can also picture matching fairies (earthy flowery fairies for the earth dragon or mermaid-themed fairies with sea-oriented dragon) in a whimsical and magical interior (throwing scale to the wind LOL). This is probably something your daughter might claim and (not to give her ideas) might even want a whole village! (You'll need to build her a she-shed in the back yard.)

Ooh I could see the sea dragon working. The house sits atop a cliff overlooking the ocean. In the day the telescope can see the ships sail by and the creatures close to the surface. At night it can see all the glories of the heavens spread out before it.

I absolutely love your videos!!! Thank you for so much inspiration! I used to make doll houses for the kids in the family. They loved them. I made one for my daughter when she was nine. It got distroyed when she was sixteen, and she cried about it for months. So I'm building one for her daughter. At least I know that she will definitely love it.
Another triumph Ara. I'll admit that I had trouble seeing the thatch in the other video when it was lighter in colour, but this darker colour showed the thatch treatment off to perfection.Well done. Looking forward to more.

How about a forest dragon that is standing on its haunches next to the tower? Like it's looking for its roof to climb onto which is no longer there? Just a thought.

Oh, man. This really does look so amazing. i like what you did with the tower and that roof is great! It would be really cool to see a 'fully furnished' dollhouse using only found materials. I mean, it wouldn't have to be super intricate or filled like your Adams of course, but like, yeah someone lives here.. Just to be able to say 'yes, you can make a full house without breaking the bank' would be super neat, I think.
I am working on the first piece of furniture and with how much I am enjoying it I def think I will be continuing!! ;)

This is so cool! I like the idea of a seaside dragon, its like the house could be on a sea side cliff and he could be the reason the top of the tower is broken....it was an accident of course, he didn’t mean to! Now of course it does allow for the homeowner to be able to enjoy the stars with him...and scratch the places he can’t reach. 😋 One little thing with the tower, perhaps some little patches of moss randomly along the crack between inner wall and outer? Seems like it would be the perfect place for some.

I have to tell you this Ara. I have followed your Cardboard house every video. I have a standing joke with my family. If I lost all of my retirement funds, it would not bother me. I love this project!!! and had to laugh.. I was just thinking.. it needs some vines crawling up the sides.. and then you brought them out!! I really want to make one of these in the future. Ara.. you make the best videos! I missed where you asked people to vote on the roof in the first video.. but LOVE the thatched roof!!. Towels are recyclable you can use them like batting for hot mats or extra lining for warm in jackets etc. My vote is for the sea dragon and a sea side cottage!!

Ara,I I just started following your work and wanted to thank you. I am very new to miniatures having just made a few diy kits. I stumbled across your site and have been trying to build my first structure following your videos. I have reversed walls, burned fingers and made a royal mess..and loved every minute. This was a lot of fun..watching your techniques is inspiring... My daughter bought me a doll house kit for me to work on ..I was very overwhelmed but you have done a great job demonstrating how you achieve a good look without spending a lot of money ..I am now power watching your videos..great filming and editing that flow really well in all the videos I have seen...I have now with your help decided to make 3 doll houses at once for each of my granddaughters..I'm going to make them shabby chic my style using some of my grandmother lace that I had no idea how to pass that on...thank you thank you..loving this new direction for my creativity
