    Please expand the description box to view links to the channels mentioned as well as additional resources and studies you may find useful.
    If you visit any of the individuals’ channels I’ve linked above, then let them know you came from my channel; spread support in this wonderful community! What are your thoughts on fasting? Have you tried it? Do you have a fasting lifestyle already, or are you interested in starting? Share with everyone so we can all learn from each other.
    Every piece of information we consume should be accompanied by a healthy dose of skepticism; it’s how we exercise our critical thinking skills and foster a deep sense of intuition. Approaching education (and life in general) this way will lead to the richest, most meaningful learning. Also important is that you be truthful w/yourself in establishing set & setting-intention & context. If you have a history of disordered eating or have an active eating disorder not in recovery, then that takes priority over everything and needs to be healed before you can revisit this topic and be a candidate for a healthy fasting lifestyle. xx

      I did a 36 hour fast a couple of months ago and was very proud of myself. I did used to do, quite easily, a fast of anywhere from 16:8 to 20:4 daily but sometimes personal life changes (family dinners/commitment etc) which hamstring it. I’m trying to get back into at least a 16:8 daily with a 24 potentially 24+ once a fortnight or month again depending on my other situations.
      I definitely love it!

    To summarize HOW you actually Cycle Fasting....
    (2:55) You fast intuitively 16 to 18 hours usually, and 24 hrs once a week on days 1-21 while in ketosis.
    (3:24) Two weeks before menstruation you don't fast, you break fasts at 10am, and you eat pumpkins and potatoes and try not to be in ketosis.
    your diet is Real Mediterranean food excluding dairy, gluten, and processed foods.
    (9:40) never do more than 20 hour fasts more than once a week
    (9:44) you fast 17-19 hours, maybe 20 hours depending on your cycle.

    I'm so glad you picked this topic, in our culture (Hindu) we fast every 11th lunar day in the lunar cycle, it's called Ekadashi. I have started doing this for my digestive and hormonal health, & I do it twice a month. You can read about it online and it has really helped me in tackling my hormonal issues like bartholin cyst etc and I have noticed a significant positive change in my mood and mental health as well.

    I have practiced intermittent fasting daily for the last 3 years. I am in my fifties so post menapause. On a personal level this year has been emotionally extremely difficult and for the last few weeks I have not been mindful. The impact of both the stress and less good diet is not good! I turned to youtube for support and was so pleased to see your lovely familiar face. Your calm, kind words and advice were very timely and I will move forward with compassion and patience for myself. I've tried fasting, and I think there are times in a person's life that it can be easier and helpful, but not everyone will do well. As a mother of two, little ones, it didn't work for me.I find that if I have a meal every 3-5 hours I feel good throughout the day and not starving=binge eating in the evening. Just like you I've experimented with many diets and schedules, finally I found something that works for me. I would encourage everyone to experiment as well, until they find what serves them long term.

      It can take some trial & error to determine the best schedule...actually, during my first year of fasting, I did OMAD (one meal a day) for like 11 months straight. But I experienced some cortisol issues (i.e. stress) so I started to vary my fasting times and also practicing cyce-syncing, and BOOM--it was golden from then on.

    Thank you for this information… I tried intermittent fasting for weight loss but gave up after a year it was just to hard and although I lost weight I wasn’t feeling it. ( mind you I am of Moslem faith so we dry fast yearly and some of us fast 11 days out of the month following our prophets lead). I still hated it. You put the hormonal perspective in your video and that intrigued me as I am 47 and trying to find natural ways to get healthy and maintain my health for the foreseeable future and my future menopausal health. So I thank you for guiding me to the right track. This is not a coincidence but I believe divine guidance. therefore I would like to thank god first and you second for putting out such a wonderful video. God bless you and may your beautiful intentions come back to you ten folds in health, wealth, family, joy and vibrant longevity. Amen.

    Hi Jennifer :) thanks for the sound advice. Doctor Sarah Gottfried also stresses this point of yours about how different the female body is, and so a rigorous keto diet isn't actually going to be optimal for females long term and the same goes for fasting. As you'll already be well aware, a lot of the compelling research has been compiled through mainly testing the male population unfortunately. It's good to remain flexible and find what works for you! Also, I just wanted to say that, after much apprehension, I started Tretinoin last night, in large part thanks to you. I know it's not ideal to start in the summer, but I'm aiming for a once a week application on top of my moisturizer and being diligent with sunscreen application, being sun-safe etc. I'm happy to take it slow but I was too impatient not to start now. Thanks again for the inspiration!

    Fasting works differently in male than females. If you are a woman in your fertile years and are considering intermittent fasting as your new lifestyle, I'll recommend you do some research on fasting, stress hormones and progesterone. Female fertility thrives in abundance as it's is all about creating life; our bodies need to know we have resources available in order to be fertile and be able to bring life to the world. When we fast let's say for 16 hours, our bodies sense famine in the environment: life can't be created in famine. When our bodies are under stress (fasting is a way of stress) the female body secretes cortisol at the expense of progesterone. Our bodies will always prioritize surviving before reproduction. Fertility is a health indicator. Do your research. Good luck everyone!

    • @coolshah1662
      @coolshah1662 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There's no research to back this up. Fasting isn't starving. Cortisol is good, if it's released in small amounts, as it helps in healing.

    i love this video, i do highly recommend eating more fruit as well, i noticed you mentioned one of the things you eat are olives
    (i used to eat them myself)
    but unfortunately i just recently found out we can never buy raw olives in grocery stores because they are toxic to us in their raw form! :(
    All i'm saying is any real food for us humans is any food we can eat if we so choose in its RAW pure state.
    Anyone can choose to cook it after but olives is just an example of a food that is advertised as healthy when in reality it could kill us in its natural grown state.

    Jennifer, I love your talks on health and on skincare, but in this video I could not help but be hypnotised by your jewellery. I would love maybe a video on that, I know you choose the things in your life carefully, and no doubt you did the same with your jewellery as well- I think it could be an interesting video. Regardless, thanks!

    In India ...we have a day called ' Nirjala gyaras' it Nirjala in it means no water...not even a single drop. We keep fast on this day it is in summer ..which makes it extremely difficult, because no water no food whole day. Yup that's the 'fast'. But that's the love and devotion for God Shiva, even after not eating and drinking we have energy and we chant Om whole day. This day is considered powerful, and eat and drink directly next day after sunrise and after worship ceremony. Thats the most difficult fast you can ever do. I do that fast...and I have low blood sugar problem but especially on that day it never goes down never...other days it does when I don't eat...but that day it doesn't. It's magical and surreal the patience it takes is astronomic because being without water in summers is just difficult.

    I have been battling depression, self-hate and bad overall health for as long as I remember. Your channel has taught me so much about self-care. I’m so happy you help women like me. I’m only 24 but I feel and look way older, because I never cared about my body. I’m ready to start experimenting and getting healthy. Just want to say thank you. And a question,
    while fasting do you have any tips for keeping a good mindset? My relationship with food is unhealthy and I can never go through with a fast. Thank you for everything. :)

      Stay strong! Love your self and build a healthy relationship with your mentality and soul. I’m working on it too! Ive hated myself since i was probably 13 and I’m 23 now. Never late to start your life the way u deserve. My mentality as shifted a lot at age 22 and now I’m in a better place but far from where i wanna be. I wish you a happy life!

    • @JenniferMyers
      @JenniferMyers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It's so good that you're interested in self care. For mindset, I always tell myself that hunger isn't an emergency. I think we're somehow conditioned to have this fear response or an automatic "I must eat NOW" response whenever we feel the slightest pang of hunger. In the research, it is actually that hunger sensation that triggers all of these biological processes (like autophagy)...it's not that we should ignore our hunger signals--rather, it's beneficial to train the body that it doesn't need food RIGHT NOW. Because when we have that time when our bodies aren't digesting food, that's when amazing processes like protein recycling in the cells can take place (the energy is able to be utilized elsewhere). The body becomes more efficient and less lazy the more we condition it to be able to function in this way. I find my mind to be the clearest and most calm while fasting; but everyone's experience may differ, of course. The only way to find out is to try and see.

    And you IF the right way. You're on it girl. The biggest issue ive seen with fasting for women is how it messes up hormones. When I tried it many years ago it always messed with me but I'm hypothyroid and ive got alot of metabolic issues. Ray Peat has been the most helpful for me but I need to shed some the weight ive gained from introducing more carbs after being low carb for many years. But if your metabolically healthy fasting can be great from all ive read.

    I’ve been fasting for 2 years now, and It didn’t help with metabolic problems or the cycle. Also I have hormonal acne all over my jawline and cheeks. And my skin didn’t get better. I fast 20/4. Sometimes I eat two times a day but rare. I really thought fasting would help with my issues but it didn’t 😔

I highly recommend to read Period repair manual by Lara Brinden and Period power by Maisie Hill. Every women should read them and yes, pain free periods /improving menstrual health is achievable for everyone!

    Hi Jenni, you have changed my perspective towards life in general! Now I have started to take care of myself more! I will be always thankful to you! And I have few questions to you! In my country, beef consumption is banned due to cultural beliefs! So can I take lamb liver? Is it equally nutritious as beef liver? The question goes for broth as well! Can I use lamb bones for making broth instead of beef? And can tretinoin be applied on neck? As I’m quiet skeptical about it!
    And Do you believe in facial massages, Microneedling and Derma planing your skin!?? Kindly spare few mins to respond as your answers in these topics will be of help to many! Thank you!

    • @JenniferMyers
      @JenniferMyers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I wouldn’t see why not. Chicken livers and lamb liver are nutrient dense, too. The nutrition in beef liver is superior, but it doesn’t mean that other foods don’t also provide benefit. I’ve personally never had lamb liver, though. I apply tretinoin on my neck very sparingly and infrequently. It’s not advised that one should do this, however.
