      That's why 1.3 billion Muslims around the world FAST, from sunrise to sunset, for a month every year. It's prescribed by our Creator. That's why Islam promotes and encourages science as it helps uncover our divine law. I appeal to all the scientists to explore the book of Quran. This book of divine law and signs is untouched and intact in it's original language since 1400 years. Divine laws also came before but unfortunately they are not intact anymore. Quran is the last correction of the divine law. Explore it!

Nearly 18 months on I doubt if I have eaten one loaf of bread in total . When I ate bread I got into the habit of feeding birds with half the loaf because I knew that I could easily finish off a loaf once I had started on it . Oats , which are meant to be satiating , were even more hunger inducing for me . Even when I was eating the first bowl I was thinking of the second bowl ! Great explanation thanks . I recently did a 5 day water fast and for last two months have only one meal a day . Was overweight and felt terrible . Now I'm much thinner and my energy level is amazing also noticed my memory is much better. Feel like a new person . Well worth the effort . I stay off alcohol, sugary items and carbs . Eat lots of meats,eggs and vegetables with some fruit and drink lots of water with electrolytes and afew supplement pills like vitamin C , Magnessium and zinc . Living the dream again thank God! Surfing again was a main focus to get me healthy again as I had given it up because of being overweight but I really missed the fun . Yay !

      @wakeupcall2665 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@josephwanjiku6853Nope, that is not how it works. First you need to get fat adapted with little to none carbs, and you loose mainly water the first week or so, with 16/8 autophagy is not really a big factor, 1MAD gives you more of the benefits.
      And once youbhave lost some weight, your metabolism is somewhat changing, so longer fasting periods keep you going. Also, the occasional carb spike like a Thai Curry with rice or a pasta dish and organic Greek yoghurt with blueberry and a tablespoon of honey keeps your body busy and ‚trains‘ metabolic flexibility.
      The thing is, you go about it the way you feel. Do your first fast when you feel like it, as long as you feel comfortable doing it.
      But the point is: your weighting not gradually going down in a certain amount of days/months. You also need to look into an exercise regiment fitting your individual body. Daily walks work wonders, and an App like 7MWC where you’re following 7 high intensity exercises for 45 seconds or so. The intensity is yours to choose. And you can do all of the exercising in your bedroom/living room - no equipment needed.
      Have fun with it!

    I want to read your next book on cancer and it's relation to lack of autophagy due to our excess eating. I also want to read your next book about why we overeat? Do we seek the pleasure of food because our current urban lives are not as rewarding or engaging as is working on our farm, caring for our animals, tilling our soils? Would we eat less if our jobs were not part of our brainwashing that work is rewarding emotionally when work can never love us back? If there was more sense of community and dedication to love and community-communication about connected things that are emotionally important, would we not seek food as our main reward system? We go to work after eating breakfast. We get coffee with a donut when we get to work. Someone makes a delicious cake we all share in over our lunch break - extended break. We eat lunch to avoid the growling stomach and drop off of stimulants including sugar in the afternoon. We grab a protein bar, a piece of hard candy or even go outside for a nicotine stimulant. On the way home we grab a couple of beers-wine-shot of whiskey. We get home and have an argument with our spouse and go grab a few more drinks. We then eat some cheese and crackers to help with our upset gastrointestinal feelings. We might be lucky and have some meat and potatoes for supper. We might have a few chips with our nightcap. We then fall asleep contented in our fullness. We get up over and over in the night to urinate as our bodies want to dump the sugar carbs of the day. Sounds like food is our only reward. Are we eating too much because our lives are so empty of other satisfactions?

I plan to do another 48-72 hour fast this upcoming week. Keto+intermittent fasting allows maximum autophagy, which I’ve been doing as well. The keto allows your body to absorb nutrients and electrolytes more effectively rather than just breaking them down, following by autophagy which rejuvenates old/damaged cells. Thank you!

    Dr. Fung, I was having a terrible time with intermittent fasting. Every time I skip breakfast by lunch time my stomach hurts. This happened repeatedly. I figured that I just couldn't skip a meal. It doesn't work for me. Then, I discovered what the problem was. It wasn't the fasting that made my stomach hurt, it was the coffee. Even though I was skipping breakfast, I was still having a cup of coffee with heavy cream and butter. That helped me be full until lunch. But then my stomach would really hurt. I quit the coffee, now, no problem. I have no problem drinking water. Have you ever heard about coffee being an irritant when fasting?

    From 2010-2011 i lost 75 kilos doing calorie restriction. Worst years of my life where i ended up needing b12 and iron injections and doc considered me borderline malnourished. Yes i lost the weight, but i was not functioning. Sleeping 10 h a night plus nap during the day. I got praise for losing weight, but when i tried to tell them i didnt feel better, in-fact i felt worse, i was looked at like I was stupid. Losing weight is “good for you”, right? My son told me i had slurred speech and at times i talked in slow motion. I did not notice this myself really. And now we are talking about my maintenance period AFTER i lost weight. I could after a year maintaining that new weight, STILL not eat more than 1300-1400 calories a day, without GAINING weight. I got fed up and started eating 1600-1800 a day, and felt better. But weight slowly came back even tho i still kept an eye on calories. I was convinced my body was trying to get back to my highest weight and sucked up ever calorie i ate. Watching Dr, Fungs videos put words and scientific explanations to what i lived through. 3 years ago when i started keto to try lose weight again, i felt like a new person. OMAD came naturally due to less hunger, and i loved my “keto brain” as i called it when talking about it with others. I felt creative again for first time in years. I had less pain in the surrounding tissue of my hip joint(which is crocked), so i take less pain medication. I always struggled with inflammation in that tissue being irritated when i moved too much. I dont need codeine daily anymore. I now and then take keto-holiday where i dont count carbs, but it doesnt take long before i want my keto-brain back. Its my default “setting” now..living keto lifestyle with OMAD. Carby days are rare, and only for special occasions. After watching most of his videos i am now experimenting with longer fasting, and i have yet to exceed 36 hours. But so far i love how it makes me feel. So for an over-eater, like i have been since childhood..this is amazing. Hard to believe this is ME living like that. Love it.

Recovering from Covid last 11 days so hoping autophagy will repair the damage Covid did to my upper respiratory system and digestive tract (nausea and throwing up were a part of my Covid illness). Thank you for great content and educating us on the benefits of fasting!!

      Me too! Just got over covid and launched right into fasting because covid kept my appetite low anyway. Down 23 pounds in a week.

    Love you're videos. I remember watching your content years ago and it was eye opening. Currently doing doing a 15 day fast and making a little vlog to share my experience and hopefully inspire others to try it too. :) Appreciate all the knowledge you share with us and the time you put into making these videos.

      at around the 65-72hr mark you'll get a release of stem cells that will do just what you're wanting. hang in there when you repeat this. you'll know it when it happens too.

    Been doing OMADS and IF and periodic 48 to 72 hour fasts. Lost 13kg since April till now. So excited. Also feeling so much more energetic. Though the first day of extended fasts isn't the most fun!

    It is not a diet, it is a healthy lifestyle change. Healthy lifestyle is a target anyone can feel good about. It can start, or continue, any day of your life.

    I've watched dozens of videos and read lots of websites that talk about autophagy, but this had a great balance of talking about the details of different kinds of autophagy without going into too much technical details about things that a layperson struggles to understand. It would be great if you could follow this video up with a *technique* video -- i.e. HOW to fast to achieve different kinds of autophagy for different goals. Looking forward to the next video.
