  • How I Cured my PSORIASIS with DIET + Key NUTRIENTS for Anxiety, Memory & Mental Health (BRAIN FOOD)
I'm preparing a simple, delicious, body- brain- & mind-nourishing meal while discuss the changes I've made to my diet over years of experimentation (trial & error) and finally landing on that which enables my whole body--but especially my brain and mind--to thrive.
[Timestamp for start of food prep 6:32]
It's important to remember that no single way of eating is going to suit everyone--we are all individuals. Biodiversity and numerous other factors will ultimately be the key(s) to figuring out the optimal diet for YOU. You must take everything into consideration and be willing to experiment on yourself. That's the only way to gain CLARITY, because thinking or presuming or assuming something is NOT the same as experiencing it. If you want to get serious about your health, then you have to be open and willing to make the necessary changes. (If nothing changes, then nothing changes.)
Certain foods are scientifically proven to improve memory, cognition, anxiety & mood--overall mental health. Some will be more or less efficacious and, again, I encourage experimentation so you can FIND OUT (that's the only way to know). I can personally attest to the efficacy of fish oils and EFAs obtained from my diet which is rich in fatty fish (sardines, anchovies, salmon).
My wish for each of you, whomever sees this, is that you gather information from a wide variety of sources, find a diet that you can sustain and that will serve your body AND mind and overall health; one that you can maintain. If you can do that for yourself, you'll be set for life.
Why I love eating SALMON (especially canned, although I also eat fillets)...
Pink salmon, like most oily fish, is rich in omega-3 fatty acids. One portion contains 1493 mg of this heart- and brain- healthy compound. One serving of canned, pink salmon contains 16.8 g of protein, just over one-third of your recommended daily intake. As an animal protein, these are complete proteins (they deliver all of the amino acids your body needs but can't make for itself).
Canned pink salmon is incredibly rich in vitamin D. A single 3-oz. serving delivers more than 100% of your daily allowance! Along with D, it brings 62% of your vitamin B12, 40% of your selenium, 28% of your phosphorus and niacin, and 13% of your vitamin B6. It also delivers appreciable amounts of riboflavin, folate, pantothenic acid, iron, calcium, potassium, zinc & copper.

Thank you for the informative video. I’m 65 used to get strangers asking me what I used on my face for such beautiful skin. When I told them what I eat is what makes the difference. Well, you could just see their eyes glaze over. What they want to hear is that I eat fast food then tell them about some magic face cream. There is no magic face cream. It was nice to listen to someone intelligent who gets it. Very very rare!

    • @JenniferMyers
      @JenniferMyers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +56

Lisa, you're so right. Sadly, many people don't want to hear it. Similarly, it's not easy as it requires change...a lot of people (this is no judgment but a mere observation) would rather pop a pill or have a shortcut. That simply doesn't exist. It comes down to the combination of all of these lifestyle factors (epigenetic choices) and genetics, too. But the fact is that over 90% of disease prevention and aging is epigenetic, meaning that WE control it with our choices.

Thanks for this video. It gave me some motivation to start working towards healing my scalp. I been dealing with some psoriasis on my scalp, purigio nodularis and dry scalp. I know for me my diet isn't the best as I love to eat too many tortillas and breads. I struggle with a healthy diet. I stay on a healthier diet for a few months then get discouraged that my scalp doesn't look any better. I quit and go back to my old ways.

Looked scrumptious. I relate to you with your skin problem, mine was acne, that I also battled for more than a decade, which was not a bad form of acne but took a tool on my mental health as well, it actually does in a double way, since it causes psychological stress which causes more inflammation which aggravates the problem, through the gut-brain-skin axis... I'm glad you could heal yourself, I'm still trying and haven't figured out yet what is best for me...

Hello Jennifer , I love the content of this video. Very informative and well explained. What a coincidence because I’m making salmon salad with my leftover baked salmon. I toss it in my mixed greens, chopped avocados, whatever leftover roasted veggies and I topped it with organic sauerkraut and pinch of pepper. The juice from the sauerkraut is my dressing. Toss everything and it’s so yummy. I love your recipe too, I’ll make that next time since I have a canned wild pink Alaskan salmon in my pantry. Can’t wait to try it 😋

If you want a healthy mayonnaise, make it yourself. It couldn’t be any easier! You’ll need oil, I prefer it with EVOO, 1-2 eggs, salt, pepper, a dash of mustard (your choice) and lemon (your choice for what type of acidity you want). Put it in a mason jar, insert a handheld stick blender and in less than 2 minutes you have Mayo. It should last 5-7 days in fridge. You’ll never go back to store bought mayo again. Enjoy!

@@JenniferMyers my pleasure. You’ll need about 1/2 a liter of EVOO, use half of that in the beginning and as it’s thickening slowly add the rest. This recipe is all about perfecting it to your taste. I use a small spoon to measure out the Dijon, 2 small spoons full, 1 small spoon of salt and 2 large spoons of vinegar and of course 2 whole eggs. Couldn’t be easier.

can you do a grocery shopping haul video, like just show what you typically buy in a week, then and also talk about how you prep food for the week (assuming you don't prepare everything from scratch daily)? i know it's different for everyone, but i think eating more like this could be helpful to a lot of people.
also, do you have any thoughts about fish consumption in terms of environmentalism? i love fish, but it's always kind of in the back of my mind that it's not sustainable for it to be a big part of the human diet in general

But out of desperation I wanted to try everything I can so I fixed my diet, read up about nutrition and began to eat just like how you describe in this video. Good fats, avoiding vegetable oils, omega 3s, veggies, quality protein, avoiding simple carbs and sugar etc, and now five, six years my mental health has improved so drastically. I feel so much better than I did in my 20s. Putting the right food and nutrients in your body can truly change a lot.

If only it were as easy as popping a pill or some other shortcut like that. Life, and wellness especially, doesn't work that way. If a person wants to have whole health, there is actual work involved. However, it is so worth it. People have to love themselves enough to want it, firstly; and then be willing to put the effort and energy into themselves to reap the benefits. But it's possible. It's very possible.

Also if people ask to hangout I always suggest an actual activity like hiking or just hanging at a cafe, rather than just eating!
Memories don’t always have to be created with just food! I find relationships a lot more rewarding when we’re not eating, but when we are actually doing ACTIVITIES 😄

I have to say that I don't. My body feels terrible when I consume those kinds of foods (I don't even consider them as foods, if I'm being totally honest, but rather edible food-like products)...in the past when I have consumed stuff like that, the after effect is me feeling sluggish, heavy and, more unfortunately, my mood (mental health) would be affected, often for several days afterwards. All in all it's a bad choice in my book. I feel so much better in every sense eating this way.

Good stuff, Jennifer. Still having an impact two years afterwards. I especially liked your comments on how good ginger is for health; kind of underrated versus garlic, onions & lemons.
Currently ovo-pescatarian though only eat eggs normally when I go out for breakfast.
As well as here, I saw on another podcast to take out grains (in that case gluten). I will definitely experiment, perhaps starting off with this recipe (maybe add some lettuce and kill the pickles...not a big fan of the pickle).
I'm fortunate to have a case of mild psoriasis only on my scalp & eye brows for 30 plus years. It's a minor nuisance but I know it isn't good for my health.
This video may help me end it. I will experiment as you suggested.

Thanks for another great video, Jennifer. One "recipe" type video I would love to see from you is how you prepare your beef liver. Many recipes for beef liver begin by soaking it in buttermilk, which is not something I want to do, and I know you avoid dairy, so I'd like to find a way to prepare it healthfully without dairy (and still have it be palatable) ☺️

I am 49 and have had psoriasis since age 7, and psoriatic arthritis since my early 30's. Over the years I have experimented with diet, including exclusion diets and 8 years of being gluten free. To be totally honest, I've had times when my skin cleared up dramatically in response to dietary changes.... but it always crept back again even if I stuck to the diet. The best thing for my health has been sun and sea swimming. That consistently gets good results.

Thank you for another new video on your food, Jennifer. I am so inspired by this channel. I try to eat very clean too, and I really find a lot inspiration here. Unfortunately I have a lot of food allergies, egg is among those and it makes me devastated. I love eggs, and they're full of everything good stuff (except the C ), I'm really sad I cannot eat them anmore. Fortunately I like and love most of what I see you put in your food, and I would really try to get my vitamines on top with the food instead of supplements. I really like your type, in lack of better words. It is practically mindfulness just to watch you. I'm very excited to have found another person who is very highly sensitive, and open and accepting about it. I have a hard time accepting it, and I've spent so much time fighting it in my mind. Thank you for being such an amazing inspiration. I look forward to every video from you. I love the different topics, from books, skin care, food etc. Thank you, Jennifer. Hugs from Kristin.

You reminded me so much of my Asian heritage, where we eat healthy food, have calm mindset, being kind and helpful to people, talk slowly and respectful, altruism... Especially the eating part. I have being in Canada for 4 years and I have always being homecooking and eating all natural food and I had perfect skin all the time. Until last year I started a relationship with a Canadian who is incredibly loving and caring and has all the good morals I could ask for, but his diet was horrible! He also cooks for me everyday so I started to have bad eating habit like having junk food becomes a norm now. Then my skin got to the worst of my life and I wondered I can save my skin! I appreciate your video so much, I need to get the original healthy me back! And hopefully make everyone around me healthier too!
