My parents saved & bought a 1932 Cape Cod in '75, 10 yrs after graduating hs, marrying, & moving from TN to NY. It was fixer upper & dad did everything from the floors to the roof as well as outside (grapevine trellises, rosebushes to grace the kitchen windows, putting up a shed, lean to for the wood. The first yr, they bricked up the fireplace and put in a wood burning stove. He'd work alongside a cutter after his shifts on the LIRR & bring home the extra. Best decision ever! That stove heated two levels within 45 minutes and kept the oilman visits to once a year unlike the neighbors who had him out every other month starting in October 😮. I'd help him chop, season & rotate the wood throughout the summer to early fall, bringing the drier pieces to the back porch, splitting kindling, etc I remember helping him hang gutters, put up paneling (a true '70s experience 😂), replace the formica countertops, pull up the linoleum flooring and replace w tiles, replace piping, solder copper, painting rooms, putting up floor to ceiling mirrors to add depth, so much over those 20 yrs until I married and left. Then when he suffered a double stroke in 2017 and Alzheimer's set in, he eventually became wheelchair bound. I built a portable ramp from plywood, sanded & covered w outdoor carpet & put double looped handles on it from (get this) yardssss of telephone cord 😂 so his caregiver could lift it in & out of the doorway to take him outside. It tickled the neighbors to see his daughter donning his toolbelt! I'm honored to be able to follow in his footsteps in at least being able to take care of my own house (and cars, yep, he was THAT dad! I even went to work in the svc dept of a dealership all through high school & into college. There's NOTHING like the power of being able to know when a mechanic is trying to rip you off😂 I'm screening in a patio next😊 Thank you for the memories. ~Best to you

I'm glad you like this book. It sounds like a very useful and informative resource for shed-building enthusiasts. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxzaRUJNcbypw-fRBDbqqz43ULIa-1EGP- The author seems to have a lot of experience and knowledge on how to build sheds of different styles and purposes. You must have learned a lot from his tips and examples. The photos are also impressive, they demonstrate the quality and beauty of the sheds. The book itself is also well-made, with glossy, thick paper and a soft cover that is pleasant to touch. This book is a wonderful choice. blush

Man,I'd love to find a couple of acres of land to build a cabin off grid where I live and just enjoy the quietness and solitude and escape the craziness of this world.
You are detailed yet simple and clear with your instructions. Your grandfather would be proud. You seem to be a very appreciative and respectful man. This is what are world is missing, back to our root core values. Like generations before

I don't remember what i was looking for when i happened upon your video. I watched from start to finish and thoroughly enjoyed it. I lost my husband of 41 years this past August. We spent our time together living in big cities where the employment was. My husband had always planned on our moving to the country and living in a cabin after retirement. I wish he could have recognized his dream. Thank you so much for sharing.
Bushradical is absolutely the best youtube channel i have seen. The filming is exceedingly great, the skills and techniques are fascinating to watch and learn, and the narration is both comforting and inviting like an old friend. I just can't say enough good about your videos, Thanks Dave for sharing your knowledge, skill and time with us.
I love your videos, the simplicity, the love of peace and quiet. Doing it old school with attention and caution. This video the cadence of your narration made me think of Dick Proenneke. Can't wait to see more. Thanks for what you do and sharing with us all.
Back to basics. Love watching these videos. Seeing Dave saying Grace before his meal makes you realise how far we have come away from being thankful. I have everything I could possible need, Yet I'm still unhappy! Keep up the great work.
Really like how the cabin is comin' along. And the fact it's a solo build with old school tools. My G-pa is smiling. Looking forward to see you and Miss Brooke build a fire, have a meal, and christen your home. GB :)
Love the old crosscut saw. My Dad had one which he inherited from his Dad and the handle on his looked a lot like the handle on yours. Brought back memories of me watching him use it. He also had an old belt driven table saw that he had to be careful of when using and of course admonished us kids to stay away when he was cutting wood. Good times. Glad you finished off the cabin as I was wondering about that after the first video. I know there are still things to finish, but it's certainly looking good.
I've always had an aspiration to build my own house or cabin but wrote it off because I thought it required skills I'd never have. Your channel brings me a lot of joy and has helped me realize that my dream is very doable with some time and effort
You are excellent at taking us through the "process" and that is greatly appreciated. You cover all angles with the camera which makes us feel like we are a part of the building etc.
The forest is alive, it feels everything, understands everything. As you treat him, so he treats you. You will love him and he will love you. You treat him with warmth, and he will warm you. You will protect him, and he will save you and comfort you in difficult times. But the Forest cannot respond to evil with evil, it simply does not know how. The worst thing on his part is indifference. If the forest is indifferent to you, then you don’t love it, you don’t feel it, and it will never reveal its secrets to you. But if you love him, then it's forever. You will not be able to live without him then, longing will seize. It's like longing for a very close person or phantom pain. It seems that he left the forest for a while and not far, in general, but still you already feel that something is not right, something is missing. Yes, you can get used to it and you can even somehow live with it ... Although, no, not to live - to exist, to pull the strap, but not to live. It will no longer be possible to live. But when you return, then you will understand - you are at home, and they were waiting for you here, you are welcome, you are missed. And how good it is to finally be home!
That looks like the most peaceful, yet productive weekend. Wish I had the land and the skills to build a cabin in the middle of the woods. Thanks for the videos.
I absolutely love the love ,respect and honor you gave by placing your Grandfather's saw above the shelf I spent many happy hours as a 9 thr 12 girl sawing and hammering in my Grands basement.( He had a saw just like that..that I used. )Ty for endearing memories
I love everything about this video and the words your grandfather said plus you prayed for your Stability in life and the food you ate. What a good man you are. Love your builds
Enjoying all your and Brooke's channel. I was taking in this episode when my dog, resting quietly on my lap perked her ears towards the speakers, keenly hearing the coyotes. Great video, scenery and audio.
You bring me back to when We built a log cabin in NW Wisconsin. Just closed it for the winter 2 days ago and miss it already. We spent may a day & night at Menards. Thank God for Menards. Ol John made it easy all under one roof.
I really like the narration. I’ve watched a number of cabin builds and this was the easiest to watch and listen to. Both videos are thorough and concise without feeling rushed or slow.
Hello sir, I really love watching your videos. I was born in New York and raised in California, and watching your videos gave me a new view of what life could be. Thanks again. 😊
I have an old summer pasture home in the Austrian Alps at 1000 meters elevation. It was built in stages, with the oldest bits about 600 years old. Although I didn’t built it, I’m fascinated by the techniques used by the herders who did. It would be too simple to say that it is built using simple techniques: while the cuts and methods are easy to understand, it’s amazing how precise the fitment is. Basically none of the cuts are straight, the tools used were primitive, and the is not a nail or screw in any of it. The house itself is HUGE. Three stories high, with space for animals and equipment - today taken up by bedrooms, of course. It sleeps 18 easily. All this built with what appears to be raw lumber from the area, with no nails and handmade hand tools (some of these are still in the basement). It’s nice to be able to go there.
My dad built us a large playhouse when we were young and went on to build three of our homes. I grew up with the scent of fresh wood. Lovely. My son and my brother spent this summer building a screen porch on his garage on a property in northern Wisconsin. I am so glad these carpentry skills in my family have survived three generations. I love watching these videos. They are relaxing and wonderful to see. Great work.
Hey man just wanna say your videos are awesome and I admire your work ethic. I’m 28, fell on some hard times and my parents were gracious enough to let me move back home. This is not ideal, renting an apartment for years has not been ideal and I’d love to be able to do something like this. There’s got to be an immense sense of pride sleeping under a roof you built yourself
Often wondered seeing remote cabins like this; what do u do if some jerk tears it up? Or a REAL d**k just decides to burn it down?? Your place, tho very nice, is relatively spartan so far. Folks who have, say, a propane stove, electronics, tools, etc etc. I spose a lot depends on location BUT when ur umpteen miles away at home? Then what? Can u get insurance to restore the place? Even if so, having ONE such event would take me out of the charm mode. Thoughts?
Dave, I Love the first video where you essentially built your off grid cabin and this one ( the second video ). Your videos are relaxing and calming. Also It was surprising ( and nice ) to see someone pray. I thank you for posting your vids. You stay radical too.
@@averyjohnson2321 Honestly. Made my night, and this two part video was my first impression of him (first video of his I’d watched). Appreciate and respect him that much more now.
I thought the same about the ‘prayer’. It actually caught me off guard, but didn’t surprise me that Dave gave thanks. Always cheerful in his demeanour. This is someone who acknowledges + is grateful for what he has. Food, water + a roof over his head. 😌 Keep things in perspective + be grateful when things go well. It would be naive to think things will always go this way.
This was awesome Dave. This off Grid cabin is a little piece of heaven. Enjoy it! Great series! I hope you continue with updates and adventures you encounter there!
I’m a young man, and your videos give me hope for the future. I hope to one day make a homestead for myself and my family to spend time together and your videos have given me a lot of inspiration. Plus you introduced me to fried eggs, they’re great!
Just found you a few weeks ago and binge watched a bunch of videos. I would love to build a log cabin some day and you're giving me the knowledge I need to make that a reality. I also went and watched you and Brooke in season 4 of Alone. I was pulling for you guys! Awesome job! I love how you show that you pray before your meals. A wise man knows where his daily bread come from.
This is the most wholesome thing in the world. I can't build a table better yet a cabin, but I appreciate seeing it come to life, and DEFINITELY get the vision of making something for yourself and living by your own rules
Absolutely inspiring. Thanks again for sharing this with us Dave, your channel provides loads of motivation for me to one day have my own cabin in the woods.
Love your videos you help make what most people would think impossible for them and break it down for people like us so we can get a sense on what to do.
Hanging that saw made me teary never had grandparents always missed the fact that I didn't ♡ I hear so many wonderful things about them Love the cabin an the video
Been watching your videos for quite a long time now, and just wanted to say I appreciate how you do things. From building, sharing information, all the way to how you produce your video's. It's nice work bud.
I loved watching this little cabin being built, beautiful little cabin in the woods - great job 👍but what I enjoy most is your voice. It's very soothing and relaxing.
Good stuff Dave...I grew up a country boy in the south and now I live in a big city and your videos sure make me homesick but homesick in a good way...maybe nostalgic is a better word. We never built anything quite so impressive but our deer stand over time grew into an awesome tree house and man I miss hanging out there with my father
I just loved part 1 and 2. These are great entertainment for someone like me. In my younger days I spent a lot of time in the woods. Built a log cabin years ago. I'd planned to spend my retirement years doing something like this. Unfortunately cancer had other plans for me. You keep making them and I'll keep watching them. Great job and a lovely cabin.
Hey I recognize this channel! From you guys this is a high complement! It's a whole different way of building, totally different environment, same general appreciation for a good little structure in the wilderness :)
I wont lie. I had gotten off of working a whole week worth of 12 hour shifts. I had one day off and everything was done. I had a whole day of relaxation. I got a hot shower and a warm meal then I sat down and smoked a bowl and watched both of these videos. Easily one of the most relaxing things I've experienced in quite some time. Appreciate the content. Glad something you've built with your own two hands can be enjoyed by both future generations of your family and the world at large. Throwing a subscribe your way friend. Keep up the good work!
I know a coop and a cabin are not the same but I am willing to learn and don’t mind working. Thanks for the inspiration. Being a dreamer and a doer helps.
SMN VOX | I think probably you can say “it IS magical to watch”. 😌 Judging from all the positive comments… it certainly seems that way, and why not. Magical is beautiful!
You are the best Dave. I’ve watched you and “Girl in the Woods” for a long time. What I find that connects me with you is our ability to work with wood and just figure it out. It all just seems to make sense to me. This project that you just completed is so basic and yet so wonderful. I pray that your family has many, many years of wonderful times at the spot. I wish you and Brooke long, healthy, happy lives together.
This is incredible! I just purchased land in New Mexico and plan to someday put a cabin much like this on on the property. I have never built anything like this in my life, but I want to build it myself so I can be proud of it. Your videos motivate me to start thinking materials and plans! So exciting. I'll be watching more of your videos to learn the do's and the don'ts. Thank you!
Something I will suggest is that you measure things like your hip to heel for hight of counters and shoulder to wrist for cabinet's this little trick will help with prepping food and dishes or anything you are standing in your kitchen a while, I am really not a fan of box store stuff if you are building something special for yourself or loved ones. Hope you enjoy the sunsets out there.
As someone who lives in NYC, it can be really hard to find some peace and quiet sometimes. I really appreciate your videos - they help me mentally escape for a little bit.
You couldn't pay me to live in a place like NYC. I enjoy living in the countryside. Might take me 15-20 minutes or more to get to the closest store but oh well I like it
Your videos are like watching a PBS special, reading a calming book, and drinking coffee by the fire all at the same time. Almost ASMR at times... very enjoyable.

I'd rather have a cabin in the woods like this than a mansion in the Hamptons. Amazing job, Dave.
That's good job, there's nothing better than get away from city cite to the country, gives a piece of mine n fresh air from the environment.

I would rather have the mansion. Could sell it, finance from that money the construction cost for the cabin and would still have a lot left.

I love your videos, the simplicity, the love of peace and quiet. Doing it old school with attention and caution. This video the cadence of your narration made me think of Dick Proenneke. Can't wait to see more. Thanks for what you do and sharing with us all.
I appreciate that
I agree, a modern version of the classic Dick Proenneke series. Seriously looking forward to the next episode.
Back to basics. Love watching these videos. Seeing Dave saying Grace before his meal makes you realise how far we have come away from being thankful. I have everything I could possible need, Yet I'm still unhappy!
Keep up the great work.
Really like this guy. Not at all the typical hipster chef doing things like this. He’s talented, basic, complex, and fascinating all at the same time!
I love watching you. Your voice is so relaxing. Your wife is the same way. You both are just so easy to be around.
I appreciate the pleasure of sharing your day and night in this magical place. Thanks!!
Thanks
You're videos remind me of Dick Pronicke ,who built an log cabin in the alaska bush an lived in it for decades.I really enjoy watching.Great job.
Idk why I’m so addicted to these videos! Love how humble you are man I hope one day I can build something like this on my families property 🙏🏻
Thanks
I've always had an aspiration to build my own house or cabin but wrote it off because I thought it required skills I'd never have. Your channel brings me a lot of joy and has helped me realize that my dream is very doable with some time and effort
Get yourself a piece of land Evan and your dream will jumpstart into reality 🥴
I got faith you can do it
Just remember straight is straight level is level !
You are excellent at taking us through the "process" and that is greatly appreciated. You cover all angles with the camera which makes us feel like we are a part of the building etc.
I truly appreciate that you honored God by praying before you ate, thank you. Such a marvelous cabin, so jealous.
I've never wanted to build a cabin in my life until these videos. These are just amazing and the cabin looks amazing. Keep being radical!!
Looks amazing dude !! Great job !!
@@vadim_546 Wow, your words are beautiful.
Being retired I think if I had a cabin like this, I’d spend most my time right there, no matter what the weather is. I sure hope there’s a part 3
Me, too! John.
That looks like the most peaceful, yet productive weekend. Wish I had the land and the skills to build a cabin in the middle of the woods. Thanks for the videos.
I absolutely love the love ,respect and honor you gave by placing your Grandfather's saw above the shelf
I spent many happy hours as a 9 thr 12 girl sawing and hammering in my Grands basement.( He had a saw just like that..that I used. )Ty for endearing memories
These videos are pure delight. Peaceful, wonder-Full and so fun!
Thanks
I love everything about this video and the words your grandfather said plus you prayed for your Stability in life and the food you ate. What a good man you are. Love your builds
sure enjoy your vids Dave. Relaxing and informative. Always about the project and never about you.
Enjoying all your and Brooke's channel. I was taking in this episode when my dog, resting quietly on my lap perked her ears towards the speakers, keenly hearing the coyotes. Great video, scenery and audio.
This is great Dave! I can’t wait for part 3 I love the content and the way you put it out here for us to watch. It’s a great inspiration!
Thanks

It must be so comforting to know there's nothing you can't build , repair or problem solve. You've learned so much at earth school!👏💗
I really enjoy your videos and your wife Brookes videos. I love watching how you build things and how you live. I think you guys are awesome
Sitting watching this with my Christmas lights on in the background and kicked back in a chair is my idea of a good time. Looks great!
Sounds great! Thanks
Love the prayer before the meal like a good God-fearing man!
Great work.
Part 3 PLEASE. Keep us updated with all the improvements on this awesome cabin
😊 ok no

Often wondered seeing remote cabins like this; what do u do if some jerk tears it up? Or a REAL d**k just decides to burn it down?? Your place, tho very nice, is relatively spartan so far. Folks who have, say, a propane stove, electronics, tools, etc etc. I spose a lot depends on location BUT when ur umpteen miles away at home? Then what? Can u get insurance to restore the place? Even if so, having ONE such event would take me out of the charm mode. Thoughts?
just research and go for it
Dave, I Love the first video where you essentially built your off grid cabin and this one ( the second video ). Your videos are relaxing and calming. Also It was surprising ( and nice ) to see someone pray. I thank you for posting your vids. You stay radical too.
I LOVED HOW DAVE GAVE GOD THE GLORY!!!
That was the best part of the whole video, the PRAYER OF THANKS.🛐
@@averyjohnson2321 Honestly. Made my night, and this two part video was my first impression of him (first video of his I’d watched). Appreciate and respect him that much more now.
I thought the same about the ‘prayer’. It actually caught me off guard, but didn’t surprise me that Dave gave thanks. Always cheerful in his demeanour. This is someone who acknowledges + is grateful for what he has. Food, water + a roof over his head. 😌 Keep things in perspective + be grateful when things go well. It would be naive to think things will always go this way.
Dave and Brooke always pray. I don't think I've ever seen them eat before saying grace.
This was awesome Dave. This off Grid cabin is a little piece of heaven. Enjoy it! Great series! I hope you continue with updates and adventures you encounter there!
That's the plan!
I’m a young man, and your videos give me hope for the future. I hope to one day make a homestead for myself and my family to spend time together and your videos have given me a lot of inspiration. Plus you introduced me to fried eggs, they’re great!
Man I wish you had your own Netflix series. I could watch you and Brooke build cabins and camp all day.
I did general construction for 4 years and I gotta say, this makes me want to build a cabin of my own. Carpentry and metal roofing was always fun
This is what I want in life. A simple cabin, and some nice peace and quiet. Plans for the future I suppose.
It's very rare to see anyone pray over their meals anymore. It's nice to see someone thanking God for their meal. Thx for that
Just found you a few weeks ago and binge watched a bunch of videos.
You should also check out his wife’s channel, Girl in the Woods.
This is the most wholesome thing in the world. I can't build a table better yet a cabin, but I appreciate seeing it come to life, and DEFINITELY get the vision of making something for yourself and living by your own rules
Spent the morning with my 7 year old daughter watching parts 1& 2. Can’t wait to finish.
Same here, except mine is 6. Now she wants to go to a forest to build a cabin and hear coyotes 😂
Great video's on this cabin looks so peaceful. you did a fantastic job hope you get years of enjoyment for you and your family. God bless.
You motivated me to build my own cabin. Tomorrow I will start it, step by step. Thank you man, your videos are amazing!!

Absolutely inspiring. Thanks again for sharing this with us Dave, your channel provides loads of motivation for me to one day have my own cabin in the woods.

the video
From all the way in the UK I loved watching part 1 & 2. So relaxing to watch a real craft being made/done. Thank you.
Been watching your videos for quite a long time now, and just wanted to say I appreciate how you do things. From building, sharing information, all the way to how you produce your video's. It's nice work bud.
Thanks
I loved watching this little cabin being built, beautiful little cabin in the woods - great job 👍but what I enjoy most is your voice. It's very soothing and relaxing.
When you were nailing the frame I knew I recognized Larry Hauns style. He was a Master!
These are the most relaxing videos ever. The best way to calm down and chill after hard work. Thank you for this, truly! Keep up the amazing work.
These videos always make my day and inspire me to spend more time outside. Thanks Dave!
My pleasure!

Hope you're still with us to watch these videos buddy. Thoughts and prayers ♥️🙏

Thanks Doc, I appreciate it
Literally the exact same just with 10 hour shifts 😂 bowl included
I know a coop and a cabin are not the same but I am willing to learn and don’t mind working. Thanks for the inspiration. Being a dreamer and a doer helps.
This series has been almost magical to watch. Entertaining, calming, inspiring. Thank you! Amazing work.
SMN VOX | I think probably you can say “it IS magical to watch”. 😌 Judging from all the positive comments… it certainly seems that way, and why not. Magical is beautiful!
Can’t wait to see when it’s all done! I envy you and Brooks lifestyle. God bless you guys
God bless you too
You are the best Dave.
Love sitting here being lazy with a glass of rum watching someone else work hard. Great work!
I love the WARMNESS you guy's always bring into these NEW builds... THANK YOU !!! ❤
What a great little cabin, just perfect for you and the wife, look forward to seeing another episode! ✌🏼❤️🙏🏼
I'm only 17 years old but i love watching this type of videos, so satisfying!
As someone who lives in NYC, it can be really hard to find some peace and quiet sometimes. I really appreciate your videos - they help me mentally escape for a little bit.
Daves a living testament to 'A country boy can survive' and your story completes it. If you know the song by Hank Williams Jr.
You couldn't pay me to live in a place like NYC. I enjoy living in the countryside. Might take me 15-20 minutes or more to get to the closest store but oh well I like it
