I’ll never forget the Christmas of 88, waking up , making my way downstairs to the Christmas tree to see if Santa had left me my tow strap that year!! One of the most cherished memories I have!
I was lucky enough to find 5/8" plywood from shipping pallets to build my entire cabin. I used architectural shingles as siding and it keeps the squirrels and mice out. I used the T 1-11 siding for the outhouse and the squirrels have absolutely chewed holes everywhere. Nothing beats a 2 person cabin in the back country. My wife refuses to go with me (too primitive) so i found an abandoned baby beagle pup last year who is more than happy to take her place at the cabin. He's even got his own recliner.
It was unbelievably courteous of you to give up a huge amount of productivity for a day for the sake of remaining quiet for your neighbors to enjoy their hunts. Good on you.
My dad wrecked me. I spent so many hours watching him build stuff, I see a video like this, and frankly, it's better than any movie. It's fascinating, it has cliffhangers (like how is he going to _____? fill in the blank), and a satisfying end. Nothing I enjoy more. Thank you for all the work of filming (and editing) this entire basic build.I REALLY enjoyed the commentary. I love watching other channels, but often, they don't explain the basic stuff like you do, so when I'm missing information, I know it's coming. Thoroughly enjoyable! Stay Radical!
Your dad too? :D Mine was alway tinkering around in the house or outside building sheds for the animals or a greenhouse and I always was his henchman (or working slave). But I learned a lot of things and every citykid envies my skills :D
If you plan to live year-round off the grid, you should take a look at "Life Uncontained" TH-cam channel as they have built a solar array, catch and store rainwater, and more. It took them a while to make it fully livable year round but lived in a camper and barn until it was livable.
Having near zero spatial awareness and dyscalculia is my problem. That's why I might need to get a ready cut house package with instructions.😂 But a house like this for a holiday home is something that's very common in my country. Spending your weekends and summer holidays in a small cabin with usually very little to no amenities is the norm, and a cabin would probably turn into a full time residence sooner rather than later if I ever get one built. 😊
Thank you, Dave, for another compelling and soothing video. If I was young, I would be out there doing what you are doing, but I am now wheelchair-bound and can't go out of my home without an ambulance because I have no ramp for my wheelchair. So I truly do live vicariously by watching others do what I would love to do. I have always been a nature lover and up until about five years ago, I was always walking, taking hikes, and finding nature wherever I could find it. But this is my cross that I must bear, and it has brought me to a place where I can rest completely and peacefully in God, for He is good. 🙂
Check in ur area, there are often organizations that will come out and build wheelchair ramps for those in need - often completely free or you only pay for materials. So sorry for ur situation, God bless you. Every reason to try and live our best dreams - never know the curves life will toss.
Your voice is pleasant and comfortable to listen to. No manufactured drama. Im 76 yrs old and could watch these all day and i dont know whats happening half the time but i know it's going to work out. Thanks, dave. Keep doing you. ❤
I can't remember the last time I watched a guy build a cabin in thr woods for an hour. I usually can't watch a video over six minutes. This has been so relaxing and engaging. It reminds me of my father, he was a carpenter. So many lessons, so many memories. Thank you
I had a good chuckle when you mentioned guest cabin. I mentioned to my wife earlier this week that I'm having a hard time not starting the design for our cabin up in Paradise. She said we already have a cabin, and I commented that one is the guest and kids cabin.
As a hunter myself I appreciate you taking into consideration that deer season was open, I don’t think hammering nails would effect deer 5-600 yards away but that’s gotta be one of the most considerate things I’ve heard in years, love the videos hope I can build my own little home some day in northern wisco, up, or minn!
Love bush dical. Very things I've ever wanted to know about building a cabin can be learned from you. I'm going to give it try, despite the fact that I am a 66 year old female. I worked rnches for year(horses) so I'm not worried bout heavy lifting. Don't know hat you can do until you try. Thank you very much. God bless, Cowgirl
Dave, I really can't thank you enough for these videos. A few years back we baught a 12x20 "Amish built" shed for my son and finished out the inside as a dry cabin (his intellectually disabled and can't live on his own, but understands the concept of growing up and moving out on account of his 3 siblings...this was a way to give him a sense of ownership and separation without risking a lack of supervision which he requires). This really sparked a desire in us to buy a substantial peice od land and make a family camp. Our family is split into 2 states on either side of the Appalachian range and so the plan is to build 7 small living structures and a "bath house" (water catchment shower/sauna/outhouse) and a large communal outdoor kitchen with covered roof. Some of our kids are looking at hard sided yurts, one brother is looking at permanent travel trailer shed with solar powered batteries for hookups, and the "teenager generation" is very excited to live in dug out structures and tree houses they build themselves. The newlyweds are excited about raising the grand children in the wilderness away from the trappings of modern amenities. You've given us great inspiration and really wonderful instruction and tips. 🙏💚
@@MrAwesomeSaucem 💚🙏 Thank you. Our son is amazing, true miracle. There's really nothing we wouldn't do for him. Have a Merry Christmas... or whatever holiday you and yours celebrate. God be with you. 💚🙏
What a great story. You should start a TH-cam Channel and document each of these choices to help offset costs, so others might learn from your journey amd to have a historical record for your family. Where in the Appalacians? Congrats!
Thank you Dave! I came one year ago across your videos and since then i/it have changed my life! Thank you for opening my eyes!!! Best regards from Germany!
Also in Germany! I'd love to build a garden house like this but kinda wonder if I'll have issues with the stove with the Schornsteinfeger... I would probably buy a Kaminofen that has a rating sticker to keep them happier :-).
As a Michigan hunter, the fact that you respected public land hunters when you had every right to hammer on your own private land is a class act. Thank you sir
So much respect for your work. You and Brooke have the work ethic of our families belief. We so appreciate the time you spend to explain the method, reasons, and you show how much you care and love what you do. Its no wonder you are popular here on TH-cam. No BS just common sense. Thank you Dave
I think the reason i like the idea of building projects like this is not just the finished cabin but to be able to go to the middle of a forest wirking with wood and trees and having a skillset like you have...thats inspirational
Like the others before me, this is so entertaining and relaxing to watch and better than any junk on TV. Fascinating watching this come together. You’ve mastered your craft well and I’m just so captivated and mesmerized. Thank you for sharing your build.
Dave, absolutely fantastic, from the ledger boards with insulation to the T-111 exterior boards, the deck with a live spruce tree is simply an amazing build. If I was a younger man and had the property to build a cabin like this, I would follow along with this exact same build. Thanks for sharing it with us.
This guy has a huge amount of genuine qualities that you have to watch for and listen to very carefully. No, no. Not just a fat guy playing in the woods. No not at all. May God protect him and keep him safe.
Dave, thank you for that amazing video. You are the Bob Ross of cabin building. So relaxing to watch and listen to you. Only channel I can watch for an hour straight and be bummed out when it ends.
Dave, you're consistently one of my favorite people on TH-cam. Your narration reminds me of watching nature documentaries with my grandfather when I was a kid and your content is great. Keep it up brother.
Bianca, we all experience dark times in our lives and you are not alone!!! While I had a super dark period a number of years ago losing my son and his mother, I am currently dealing with another after having reconstructive knee surgery. I'm coming alone but far slower than I want! I have personally realized just how much we talk for granted, like simply walking. I am learning to walk all over again. Also, I have donor tissue, which gave me a new outlook on things and life! So I hope your dark period ends soon and you get back to a sunny bright life! Hope to also see you build your own cabin!😉👍👍 God Bless 🙌 🙏
Very encouraging. I follow TH-cam vids. to fix my cars and just about any other home DIY job there is. I, like many, have often thought about escaping to some remote place and doing something like this and never being seen again. He, for the first time for me, actually made it seem possible. Starting with getting the land cheap due to the type of land then followed by helping me to realize I "don't" have to permanently disappear but rather use it for that honest, true retreat and then back to the regular way of living. I can take this video with me and literally accomplish this goal. It may take me twice as long but I now know, with this, I can do it. Whether I ever actually do is yet to be seen but at least I know I can. TY sir.
Dave, I doubt I'll ever build anything like your cabin this late in my life, but I have the opportunity to live vicariously through your videos. I'm looking forward to your finishing this cabin. Thanks for letting us dream about what could be as we watch your, Brooke, and Ryan's videos. Blessings to you all.
Always great to spend part of my Sunday morning watching you build something! My wife and I enjoy your projects and look forward to being able to do one of our own someday. Thanks for the continued inspiration Dave!
Right on time Dave.... took off work today, (Greyhound Driver) just needed a break. Now and enjoying one of your VERY informative Videos... you just made my Day. Thanks Dave
This popped up my youtube and glad it did. As someone born, raised and worked all my life in a metro area, simple little cabin builds in the middle of nowhere is awesome. One day.....one day.
Hey Dave, I really enjoy your videos, I’ve always wanted to stay in something like this!! (Absolutely love that you made the tree part of the build) Wishing you & your family a very merry Christmas, with love & best wishes from the UK x🥰🇬🇧🎄🎅🏻
I would’ve suggested siphoning the water but then you’d need a hose where likely didn’t have one. That bucket and strap came in very handy at the moment. Great video!
David, I work all year for opening day. Let me tell you, MAJOR kudos to you for your respect to the hunters! That was a Stand-up move sir.... Fantastic build as well. I'm an E-tech (oilfield service in North Dakoda) on my "down time" binge watching yours and Brooke's videos. Solid man! Really solid!
I really appreciated how you were sensitive to the hunters in the area. That shows tons of character. I enjoyed watching the whole build. You're a true craftsman. Thak you for sharing.
You and Brooke are my hero/shero team. Love this video so much. I’m a tiny 60ish year old woman - but I’m inspired to dream about building a cabin! You are amazing. Sending love from Wisconsin!
I built a cabin and lived in it up off Goldstream out of Fbks for a few years myeself. The building of this structure was basic, well to us builders it was. But holy cow, your ability to capture it all, narrate it so eloquently was incredible! Gosh I'm so impressed and thank you for producing this because I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Really injoyed watching your build. Alot of useful iinformation . I like the door opening like that with the stairs where they are. Great sense of humor and insight. Thank you for sharing. ❤
After just watching your previous 50 minute video on the build itself and now this 1 hour and 20 minute long deep dive (great term and concept) video, all I can say is I'm bummed that it's over. And that's after rewinding many segments and rewatching them! Dave, you are an artist....in so many different ways. You are so inspiring. You remind me of a younger version of my father... and he was a great man. He received many compliments on his handiwork. His gracious reply was always "Jack of all trades, master of none". That is what I think of when I watch your videos. You're always so very humble. Brooke as well! You both are such great people. Thanks for the great "escape from life" you just took all of us on with this latest wonderful creation of yours. God bless you and Brooke and your families and have a wonderful Christmas and New Year to come!
I want you to know that this video has inspired me to get out and build my own off-grid tiny cabin. My wife and I bought 20 acres of arid forest land in the New Mexico wilderness when our two boys were young. Now that they are old enough, we are going to build your cabin design on our property, just as a place to get away to every once in awhile. Just wanted to thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience, we are very much looking forward to building it together and it wouldn't have been possible without your willingness to share. Thank you!
I was sure you were going to say “Brooke always offers you the first bite, but I’m not Brooke!” That cherry pie filling on toast sounds too good to share. I can relate to forgetting a stud in the framing process but I usually end up nailing a stud on the wrong side of the line location. I’m not sure PT lumber is as good as it used to be, even the below grade stuff doesn’t seem to have the preservative penetration it used to have. Your building skills outclass mine so I’m glad you keep the teaching simple for me to follow. A cabin build is a spiritual thing.
When I started watching the short video, I thought I could watch Dave build cabins all day long. Then, when this video dropped, I was pumped to watch it all over again with even more content! Something about the calming confidence in your voice, even when facing several hundred pounds of un-wanted water. Thanks for being Radical!
Thanks for this Dave. There’s a lot of these types of videos out there now but yours is truly the gold standard. Brilliantly edited and narrated and fascinating to watch from beginning to end. Approaching 5M views so I think a few people agree. More please!
Love your videos Dave! Your last cabin build inspired me to build the same one on my property, except I did a 16x12 instead of 12x10. Thanks for all that you do. Your videos are much appreciated! I know how much work goes into not only building but also your videos as well! Bless you and your family!
Nice to see you on again Dave. Freaking loved the video. I'm always stoked when either of you guys post, but if you don't, I just know you're out in the woods somewhere, being radical, and getting happy. Thanks for the videos and for your faith, your great attitude and your work ethic. It is so refreshing to me.
Dave, been watching you guys for awhile. My wife and I live in Nenana AK and have a cabin up on the Nenana River which we love. So, we know exactly what your talking about with these builds you do. Really appreciate the hour and twenty minute video and enjoyed every minute of it. Also appreciated your prayer before your breakfast! Blessings on you and Brooke!!!
Thanks for posting the deep dive! I look forward to your videos more than pretty much any other person on YT. So, after finishing the video on this cabin build, I was psyched to hear you had a version where you covered the build in depth. (Built an outhouse on our property based on the build you did with your brother. Turned out awesome!) Love your work and, just as importantly, the philosophy you're putting out there. These are crazy days and we can all use some down to earth good sense and values like you bring. Keep it up!
Because of this video I will absolutely do this one day. Whether I live in the cabin or it’s just for seasonal use the process looks extremely fun and relaxing
Awesome Dave. I have been watching you for about a year, and completed my first 8x8x11 structure using 95% reclaimed materials. You inspired me to get out there and get my hands dirty, and the whole process was a huge learning experience. Using reclaimed and imperfect materials certainly added to the learning process. Thank you and keep the videos coming my friend. There is a new structure on the back acre of an 80 acre farm I was living on because of you. Thanks and take care.
Such a pleasure to watch, Dave! From the overall build to the narration you really nailed this build--pun intended! The Upper Peninsula is so beautiful it just makes an ideal setting for cabins like yours. I really look forward to your finish video in the spring, and maybe you can include a short segment showing every tool and their primary use plus cost. Thank you for such quality content, and that includes your outstanding film work and editing. Well done! Like button smashed!!
Dave, it is always a pleasure to watch your home-grown common sense approach to life. Keep up the good work!. Great move using the strap to get off the roof/
Hi Dave, tis is so incredible! But what's more amazing is that you, by yourself, built this!(no matter the time it took) It makes me think of workers or people who complain they don't have enough help. keep it up!
Another classic. I could watch these cabin builds every day and never get bored. I'd really like to see you build a larger, more complex place. Great stuff Dave! Merry Christmas!
I can tell you that after watching your videos, I changed my mind and started thinking seriously about building my cabin by myself instead of asking and paying someone to build it. I love your build videos.
Without a doubt one of the best videos of this kind I have ever seen. You do a wonderful job. Both building and explaining things we feel like we’re right there with you. Half the time I kept thinking I need to hand you a nail.
Oh my goodness! I just saw your husband on the screen and I realized I've been watching him for a while now building cabins, I always wondered who you were! Thanks so much I'm glad to see you and I appreciate your advice very much 💘
Enjoyed this video! I learned a few more interesting needed things from you. 👍 You really explain & video things clearly. You have much to proud of in your life, helping and inspiring others are only 2 of them. You and Brooke have inspired me to build a cabin on my property, won’t be off grid - but will have a woodstove. I’m a bit over 60, so those of you who are older….dream big and go for it!!!
Dave, I really enjoy watching and learning all your fantastic craftsman skills and you explain everything perfectly! You do absolutely wonderful work and thank you for sharing your adventures!
You mentioned that you don't want to fall any trees unless they're dead... managing the forest will result in a healthier forest... Falling tress for that alone is worth it. You could have sheet the walls.. that said... you're the builder, you know your structure. The look on your face drive through the snow is priceless.. I know that Michigan U.P. look...
I am a big fan of your wife's "Girl in the Woods". So I am so glad to see one of yours. Really like your work and have a question. Do you ever use dehydrated camping/emergency food? If yes, what is the best (looking for a good one)? If no, have you talked about/considered it for your cabins? My age and disabilities keep me from putting into practice what I have learned, watching the two of you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise with all of us. I am sure there a quite a few who will take your lessons and put them to good use. Prayers for you and your family are on my prayer wall. God bless and keep you both safe on your journey.
My dad worked with lumbar a lot, building a couple of houses for our big family. He always said you can judge the strength of a man by how many times it takes to nail a 4” nail. You’re right up there Dave, just three hits! Wow! Love this vid, you’re poetry in motion!❤❤❤
I really enjoy not only the actual building of the cabins but the commentary to go along with it. I had watched a few of your videos but when I saw you bow your head to pray before eating your meal, I was truly touched! Thank you for adding that!
I have watched "This Old House" for many years (since the 90s, I think), love how things are explained in detail and how all their remodeling is done over multiple shows (in real time). and your channel is like that too! You explain what you plan to do, and then explain how to do it while doing the mod. And I particularly love this, you explain little tips and tricks and why you are doing the mod in a particular order. Your are my new go to for renovation stuff....I simply cannot stand those other home renovation shows! You and TOH have spoiled me.
Watching you and Brooke build cabins is the fun part of my day, every evening. I'm a woodworker and wish like heck I had done this 40 years ago...... Love you both!
I have to say, I really like your channel, and after years of randomly stumbling on your videos I finally subscribed. I enjoy how you are upfront about what makes sense to be off-grid and what realistic trade-offs are, instead of grifting your audience like some "off-grid" channels do that pretend they never need help or don't present the actual challenges of off-grid construction. I hope to afford to build my own spot to disappear to with my family when ever we need it, and your videos give a lot of great ideas.
That is some rich sand. The darker the dirt, the better for crops. Having that richness of the soil will improve harvest. Fantastic video sir? Enjoy watching you construct foundations and framing. Great piece. I worry about your back sheeting plywood. We used an 8 ft stud to make a plywood ladder. That just attaching a 2x2 across the stud about half way up. Then place the plywood sheeting on the lip, ( you're not pulling that much). Hope I described it clearly. Keep up the good work hoss?
This is a good book. Does provide a step by step introduction to how to build things th-cam.com/users/postUgkxhgbP-6hUnXu_QRaoHgLztgsI0YF3HqR0 , also does offer some steps. Includes pictures to give you ideas for layouts and such. If you are looking for a guide, this is not exactly what you want. But if you are trying to familiarize yourself with the way that pole barn building and other out buildings, are made, then this will work just as you need it to. A few things in this book are a barn (of course), detached garage, storage building, and coops.
But building homes are different than coops, sheds & barns. Also if you must follow code in your area then there are a lot of other rules to follow also. So beware. Not all building are built the same.
Thank you for taking the time to show your work. I am hoping to share this with some young men/ teens and am hoping to inspire them in their search for their place in this world. Please say a prayer for them and for me. Much thanks for your work. I have a tiny building, which is my "home office/ bedroom and did the insulation myself, lol, along with a lot of finishing details. It is a labor of love and I am still working on my space, which is not off-grid, but still a lot of work.
Not something I am going to do at this stage of my life, but I totally appreciate your build and explainations. Totally doable if I was 30 years younger.
You may want to replace the screws that hold in the windows with ones that can't be backed out. I built a cabin with a southern wall that was all windows. I am a winter guy. I was gone a week. When I returned all the windows, doors, fireplace and propane fridge and the solar st up on the roof was gone. I am sure if I were to be gone longer I may have lost the whole cabin. Trail cameras all over the property and at all access points is also a good Idea. The Sheriff told me people watch for people building summer cabins. Caught a guy that stole a whole cabin. Loaded it on a trailer. He only got caught because he didn't have a permit to hull a 10' wide structure.. He also recognized the tiny home...
I am shocked by your story! Only gone 1 week?! What is the world coming to? Was your cabin in Canada or the US? Were you able to recover anything? I’m so sorry to hear this story. I hope you were able to rebuild your cabin.
Yeah had that happen once I found it after you screw it down drill out the head just enough that nothing can get a grip on the screws. Works just fine.lol
@@curtisanderson3673 So I suppose whatever you build with those type of screws is very permanent. No renovations or replacing windows or doors in the future, without a heck of a lot of work! 😆. Seems like a lot of extra effort to prevent thieves dismantling your cabin. Things we have to do these days.
We love watching you and Brooke’s videos here in Ohio. The quality of the vids are awesome! It’s like we’re there with you. I’m hoping sometime you’ll build a tiny house on a trailer. Thanks for the vids man!!
What a Great video, Ty❤️❤️❤️💯 I love watching your videos and your wife Brooks videos you are both such an inspiration. I remember when I once lived in that joy and happiness. It was the greatest moment of living in my life. It brings me to tears watching you both, it touches my heart. I came to the city life only to help others get healthy some lived some died and I ended up stuck here and the videos you both have, give me the strength and inspiration to get out of the city and go back in the woods. I love the strength and passion you both have and I thank you both for touching my heart to take steps to move forward in what I love, Ty, for you both ❤️✌️🙏❤️🕯️💯🎈🌻😊
I’ve binge watched yours and Ryan’s videos and have become inspired. Now looking for my own parcel of property to create a getaway. Love what you guys are doing.
I read the entire Ryan’s th-cam.com/users/postUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 Plans and was able to make a shed plan. Using Ryan’s Shed Plans alone, the shed itself is great. Where I wish I knew more is with respect to ground preparation and foundations. Maybe that's beyond the scope of Ryan’s Shed Plans.
I’m so jealous. I’m a deer hunter and I always talk about being so secluded and quiet on my stand that you can hear the snowflakes hit the left over leaves on trees. Even if it’s cold I’m so jealous of you somewhat being alonez the only way it would be any cooler is if you did some as lives. You are the cabin man. For sure. Nice build. I watched from midnight to 2:00 ish. Nice build. Nice place. 😍🙏
Excellent!!! Watching you work on your projects is enjoyable and educational, This cabin will make a fabulous guest cabin. I can tell you put a lot of effort into filming, editing, and narrating this project. And you are a natural at explaining what you do and why. I look forward to watching its completion. My regards and best wishes. Be safe and take care!
Hi live in Onondaga Michigan, I have been a Trapper and Hunter since 14 yrs old. I trapped and hunted the UP since I was 23. I am 63 now. All my Uncles live in the UP for over 50yrs. Anyway, love this video! Keep up the great work! I have done the same building as you and it is great to see someone do the same. Thanks for sharing!
Great job on the video Dave! Thanks for making it. Your comment about the shot of the fire made me think that it would be lovely to have a video about the challenges of recording all your work. Maybe a behind-the-scenes look at the gear you use, tricks you've found for setting camera angle, lenses, settings, etc. I might just be a camera nerd, but it would be nice to focus (see what I did there?) on the thing that I'm sure people take for granted. The construction isn't the only work you're doing. I want your audience to know what all you go through to get us these wonderful build videos. Keep up the great work!
I think you and might be the only two people who would watch it. I shoot with a canon HF g20 99% of the time. I also have a go pro Hero 8. And I have 2 Manfrotto compact advanced tripods. Thats the whole rig
Dave you’re giving every homeless person a guide to being a home owner! GOD BLESS YOU FOR YOUR EXAMPLE OF A GOOD SAMARITAN THAT SHARES YOUR BLESSINGS AND MAKE THEM COME BACK WITH MORE BLESSINGS FOR OTHERS TO ENJOY!
Hi Dave. Thanks for sharing this great video. Loved every single minute of it. Narration excellent. Best wishes to you, Brooke and all the family from the UK.
I just love watching your videos. Would love to do this sort of thing, maybe some day... It really is satisfying seeing you do this, see how doable these things are.
I’ll never forget the Christmas of 88, waking up , making my way downstairs to the Christmas tree to see if Santa had left me my tow strap that year!! One of the most cherished memories I have!

Wonderful ❤
God will bless you !!!

Me too. My anxiety is really bad right now and Dave's videos save me
Yeh, I go for my rasbarry coffe cake,
I was lucky enough to find 5/8" plywood from shipping pallets to build my entire cabin.
Who has those kind of shipping pallets? What businesses would be good to check?

Not only are you a great carpenter. But you are a very good narrator, storyteller content creator and you tube channel host.
The more I watch these cabin build videos the more I think I could actually build one some day.
If you plan to live year-round off the grid, you should take a look at "Life Uncontained" TH-cam channel as they have built a solar array, catch and store rainwater, and more. It took them a while to make it fully livable year round but lived in a camper and barn until it was livable.
You certainly can!

Have you contacted Habitat for Humanity to see if they could build you a ramp? Where do you live?
Check in ur area, there are often organizations that will come out and build wheelchair ramps for those in need - often completely free or you only pay for materials.
So sorry for ur situation, God bless you. Every reason to try and live our best dreams - never know the curves life will toss.
if you contact a local church they should be willing to build you a ramp, hopefully
This video is interesting and calming. A pleasant voice and informative information! Thank you for this video, truthful and considerate ! Good job!
Your voice is pleasant and comfortable to listen to. No manufactured drama. Im 76 yrs old and could watch these all day and i dont know whats happening half the time but i know it's going to work out. Thanks, dave. Keep doing you. ❤
Thanks for watching!
I can't remember the last time I watched a guy build a cabin in thr woods for an hour. I usually can't watch a video over six minutes. This has been so relaxing and engaging. It reminds me of my father, he was a carpenter. So many lessons, so many memories.
Thank you
“The Ruff ..”❤
Your family sounds awesome!
What a wonderful family you have and a wonderful thing to do for your son.
Congrats!
Great story. Approximately where? I'm right next to the Appalachians.
Thank you Dave! I came one year ago across your videos and since then i/it have changed my life! Thank you for opening my eyes!!! Best regards from Germany!
thanks
Also in Germany! I'd love to build a garden house like this but kinda wonder if I'll have issues with the stove with the Schornsteinfeger... I would probably buy a Kaminofen that has a rating sticker to keep them happier :-).
Much respect for pausing the job for opening day. Not many people would be that thoughtful.
As a Michigan hunter, the fact that you respected public land hunters when you had every right to hammer on your own private land is a class act. Thank you sir
You don’t need to hunt. We’re not living in Indian times, you all just shoot deer for fun. No need.
Hopefully no 30-06ers nearby 53:53 say within ½ click😮
Hunters don't respect the lives of other sentient beings, so tell me again why you think they deserve respect?
Thanks
This guy has a huge amount of genuine qualities that you have to watch for and listen to very carefully. No, no. Not just a fat guy playing in the woods. No not at all. May God protect him and keep him safe.
Thanks
Dave, thank you for that amazing video. You are the Bob Ross of cabin building. So relaxing to watch and listen to you. Only channel I can watch for an hour straight and be bummed out when it ends.
Dave, you're consistently one of my favorite people on TH-cam. Your narration reminds me of watching nature documentaries with my grandfather when I was a kid and your content is great. Keep it up brother.
Thanks
Dave your videos are the best, the cabin build is radical.
It’s so good to see you pray before eating, God bless you big guy. Can’t wait to start building these.
Great job Dave! We really enjoy watching your videos.
These videos found their way to me in a dark time in my life last year, they always comforted me❤️ I hope to build a cabin like this one day
Bianca, we all experience dark times in our lives and you are not alone!!!
Thanks
Always great to spend part of my Sunday morning watching you build something! My wife and I enjoy your projects and look forward to being able to do one of our own someday. Thanks for the continued inspiration Dave!
Great build and video Dave- your tips and skills are amazing- can’t wait to see her finished!
Can’t express how much I love watching these videos.
Right on time Dave.... took off work today, (Greyhound Driver) just needed a break. Now and enjoying one of your VERY informative Videos... you just made my Day. Thanks Dave
Man you are a helluva builder teacher story teller and human being. I love your channel.
51:40 Mad props and much respect. Your consideration of others is par to none. This is my first videos of yours, and I'm your newest fan! Cheers, Matt
This popped up my youtube and glad it did. As someone born, raised and worked all my life in a metro area, simple little cabin builds in the middle of nowhere is awesome. One day.....one day.
Hey Dave, I really enjoy your videos, I’ve always wanted to stay in something like this!! (Absolutely love that you made the tree part of the build) Wishing you & your family a very merry Christmas, with love & best wishes from the UK x🥰🇬🇧🎄🎅🏻
same to you
I would’ve suggested siphoning the water but then you’d need a hose where likely didn’t have one.
Thanks
I really enjoy this long form, commentary heavy video with lots of explanations. Awesome vid Dave, thanks!
Sending love from Wisconsin!
where ya from? I'm from Antigo.
I rewatched his homesteading tools video so many times
Nice! I use a similar line. “Joe of all trades, master of some”
I want you to know that this video has inspired me to get out and build my own off-grid tiny cabin.
Thanks
😊
Dude I just realized that You & Brooke were on a season of ALONE you guys are truly AMAZING!!!
Wait what?? I literally just commented that it was reminding of alone without the stress
Turned out awesome!)
Love your work and, just as importantly, the philosophy you're putting out there. These are crazy days and we can all use some down to earth good sense and values like you bring. Keep it up!
You and Brooke are AMAZING!!
Oh yum breakfast and dessert is so delightful!
Love your tree on the deck!
Thnaks
So nice to see someone who knows what they are doing, and can explain it to someone else.
Dave, it is always a pleasure to watch your home-grown common sense approach to life. Keep up the good work!. Great move using the strap to get off the roof/
Hi Dave, tis is so incredible! But what's more amazing is that you, by yourself, built this!(no matter the time it took) It makes me think of workers or people who complain they don't have enough help. keep it up!
Wish I had exposure to this stuff when I was younger! Would have loved to do this. Love your videos. Thanks.
I love your build videos.
i watch all your videos with no skip they’re that good
I am loving your builds. I watch Brooke 's stuff but learn more from yours. You really have made me think I can do this myself. Thank you!
You can
Without a doubt one of the best videos of this kind I have ever seen.
I know that Michigan U.P. look...
Thank you for the video Dave. You are an excellent carpenter and I love your perspective and discussions. Great.
Dave, thank you for filming all this! The cabin looks amazing! I agree, there is something almost therapeutic watching the building.
I love that you Pray...what a great witness!!!❤
Watching you and Brooke build cabins is the fun part of my day, every evening. I'm a woodworker and wish like heck I had done this 40 years ago...... Love you both!
Dave Whipple, I have really enjoyed ALL your cabin videos! Thank you for creating and sharing these videos!
Your commentary is absolutely perfect with this video. You video quality and the story you tell is very entertaining. Thank you!
Even though this is related, it is a spam comment. I saw it on so many other videos.
The production quality is incredible!
It doesn’t matter where you two live it’s all about the content for me. So happy you two are taking time for yourselves!
What a Great video, Ty❤️❤️❤️💯
I love watching your videos and your wife Brooks videos you are both such an inspiration.
Good news! His wife and brother both have channels two. This place is up to its ears in Whipples.
Wow, David. You are really good at that. I always learn a lot watching your cabin builds. Thank you for sharing that. 👍
Dave you are an excellent builder and also gifted with perfection.
Love watching your build, and your so neat!
I'm from the UP and I miss the sound of the snow as you walk through the woods. Thank you for your videos1 I love watching them all!
