    I’m a 67-year-old woman. This time last year I built a shed pretty much on my own because of what I learned from you. The only help I needed was to raise the walls and my grandkids wanted to help me with the simple projects. They were pretty proud of their grandma. It felt so rewarding to know I finished the shed, it’s still standing (LOL), has no leaks and it looks good. I’m already thinking about another structure to build. Your wife Brooke inspires me. You teach me. I thank both of you so much!

    Probably the best Ryan's Shed Plans on building a shed is hardly found ever . th-cam.com/users/postUgkxcLVQopTIucrxiVRQA0khLGQEnDVKCSMG And Ryan's takes the mystery out of different types of foundation options, etc. He even shows how to build shed with different designs. Very comprehensive, covering different roofing materials, siding, etc.

    • @starwarsfan5001
      @starwarsfan5001 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      @EarthSurferUSA My attitude is that you shouldn't confuse advancement with materialistic possession. And that if we deprogram the idea of a 5 bedroom 4 bathroom $900,000 dollar house being necessary to "advance" and begin to live modestly. We will shift our focus on the things that truly matter in this world. Whatever that may be in our own minds. Consumerism and being better than the person next to us has invaded the subconscious of a large portion of America as of late. Especially as technology advances. I think your misunderstanding of my point doesn't come from a position of misunderstanding itself. But possibly more from a confusion between the words "primative" and "minimalist" because my cabin is larger (35×30 with 9 foot ceilings and a loft and a 16×30 foot porch to be more precise. But I built it all on family land. I did it piecemeal, bit by bit, and I did it without taking out strenuous mortgages that will put me and my soon to be fiancé in debt for the next 30 years. I built bigger because we want children. I built with HVAC. Because I live in Texas and summers can be in excess of 100° for weeks on end. But my house is simple when compared to most homes. That doesn't make me a Neanderthal. It makes me and my wife to be people that understand that sometimes some cattle and a modest home with people that love you are more important than the price tag on the things around you. THAT is the direction my attitude is in.

    • @starwarsfan5001
      @starwarsfan5001 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @EarthSurferUSA I'd venture to ask, as someone who clicked on, and hopefully watched this video in its entirety. What is your view on it? Do you think simple homes advance us and let us focus on more important things. Or do you think modernity helps us stave off "primative" habits?

    These cabin building compilation videos with your insightful voice-over are always a pleasure to come back to on occasion. They're very soothing and calming to watch and listen to, especially for when I have downtime in this stressful period of my life from roughly the beginning of 2019 until now. While I personally would never attempt or do something of this nature let alone achieve something of this magnitude and great on my own, I still enjoy learning about and observing people's various lifestyles and what they value and cherish in life, and your authenticity and rustic living has rubbed off on me in a positive way; appreciating the simple things in life and finding worth and use out of seemingly worthless objects and abandoned items. Also, I can relate to your disdain and reluctance towards the procedure of insulation; I dislike doing stuff that is mundane and tedious in life that is similar to what insulation is like for people in the construction and craftsmanship industries.

    David, thanks for sharing this video. I grew up in Northern Minnesota and grew up building all kinds of farm buildings, sheds etc. I enjoyed watching the start to finish build on this project. Nice and rustic and well suited for your remote area. I'm 77 years old and have lived in the West for the last 50+ years and appreciate watching your videos. I would like to share one pointer that I noticed right at the end when you were installing the wood stove. I learned this growing up around wood burning heaters. When you put the verticle sections of the stove pipe on the inside of the cabin, make sure the inside pipe flange is facing downward on the inside of the pipe below so that any creasote that might condense would run back into the fire and burn up. This keeps the pipe looking clean above the stove keeps the fumes to a minimum inside the cabin. Thanks again. Bernie

    Fascinating videos especially for one of the least handiest guys going. I just never learned the carpentry and building skills you have. There’s something so relaxing in watching your progress on building this cabin. It’s truly a pleasure to see you enjoy the north woods in a way so many people wish they could these days. What a tremendous place to visit and stay far away from nosey neighbors, HOA’s telling you how to live and just listening to the sounds of those woods. I only hope you have access to a nice stream or spring fed lake with a bounty of freshwater game fish to harvest. God bless you and yours, sir.

    I'm 66 and am about to get my second hip replacement. When I get it done in February, I should be recovered by Spring, and it will be JUST in time for me to make one of these getaway cabins, on property we own, deep in the Maine woods. I will be a hero to my wife, and I will have Dave Whipple to thank. Thanks so much for all your videos, Dave. I know you don't put many out now, so I REALLY look forward to each one. THIS one was great, and was a true inspiration!! I'm about to watch it again!

    Dave,I've been here the whole time. I watched you build your whole cabin from start to finish. Their might be some people that are jealous because you build so many cabins in the woods but I say if you own alot of land go for it. Its your property ,do as you wish. I watched Brooke build her cabin and I love hers just as I'll love you cabin. A fire is nice on a cold snowy day. I watch your channel whenever your on and I watch Brookes channel also. Thank you for sharing this video. Love it. P.S. Don't forget ,get out and get happy.

    I love how you put those cabin posts in, packing the dirt down around them. My dad taught me to do that, and it's really served me well. I've never seen anyone else do that. I've got posts in the ground that I put in that way 50 years ago, and they're still standing strong. Thanks for this video and best of luck to you.

Thank you for all you do and everyone out there should consider volunteering with a local Habitat. It has been the most rewarding thing I have done in my life.
