This is genius on so many levels. The extremely simple door design and construction; the interlocking wall boards; the rafters, being screwed together with only a single screw, so you can haul them stacked and simply unfold each one; the tarp for a quick roof, but enough structure to add metal roofing later; the overall simplicity. And on top of that, a very well shot and edited video. Thank you for sharing.

Should have used cheap pva clear shower curtains for you r windows. I have a 3 season porch with shower size windows and they hold up all winter in the northeast cold and snow. With the wind and weather .they are also crystal clear. Just a suggestion.great build tons of thought. Love your videos
Yes, we have an interior rear entry door with a storm door entry seldom used. The inner wood-framed draft door is from a shower curtain that's lasted 30 years without cracking. Of course, that entry never gets direct sunlight that probably would have ruined the still supple vinyl.
True. After a while you probably would get claustrophobic. I bought an old abandoned country house with almost every window pane broken out. (27 panes of glass) I bought a couple rolls of clear vinyl and depended on that until I could replace everything.
Or Make a window with plexiglass. If a Bear came by, it would be 1 swipe and plastic is gone. Then just afix a fold down shutter to close window off when gone. Very nice little cabin, and easy to construct. Great job. Is it around 8x12?
For a bit of added privacy in our screen porch I added a portion of a shower curtain behind the couch. You can sit and still look out the screen portion but the couch itself can not be seen from the outside. That way if you want to sleep out there in the summer you have a bit of privacy. Because they get exposed to the elements all year round I usually replace them each spring. And these are the cheap ones, not the heavier type. LOL, thought I was the only one to think of using shower curtains. You guys rock!
OK for your window, Walmart sells a crystal clear really thick vinyl that I use on my boat which is 20‘ x 30‘ and is all windows. The stuff is great and super clear. Just a suggestion.
Wonderful this might be good also for the homeless with some different roofing and window. Plus some kind of lock for the inside. Thank you for sharing.
Tiny homes for the homeless were considered here but the fire marshal can't sign off on any residence that doesn't have egress windows and other safety codes. To give a homeless person a tiny home should be something they could sell after some amount of time and if the tiny home doesn't meet normal building codes it won't have any resale value. This would bring down the value of any neighborhood. if anybody thinks that we should be giving homeless tiny homes then they should totally build a homeless person a safe dwelling in their backyard... I won't be virtue signaled into paying for a deathtrap community. There are better ways to help
@Amber you're confusing the cause with the effect. Homeless people turn to alcohol & drugs as a coping mechanism. You try waking up to the same dismal reality day after day, month after month, repeatedly let down by a system that is not working, persecuted by law enforcement, hated by the majority of mainstream society, strangers who don't even know you or how you came to be homeless, with no hope of improvement, or even CHANGE, in sight, & see if you don't reach out for something, ANYTHING to escape this hopeless reality & its bleak outlook, if only in your head, & make you feel "good," however temporary that feeling is or ultimately harmful the means may be. Remove the people from the environment that drives them to drink & get high, & they will quit, just like 90% of Vietnem Veterans who were addicted to heroin during the war did when they returned home to their families & meaningful & fulfilling lives, without rehab or any treatment program at all. As for mental illness, when did it become alright here in America to neglect the infirmed who cannot help themselves? I guess when Ronald Reagan shut down all those psychiatric facilities & put the patients out in the streets to begin with, rather than reforming the mental health system as he should have. Many people have the same misconception as you with regard to drug & alcohol use among the homeless, & that is a big part of this ever-increasing problem. The more you understand about an issue, the better equipped you will be to deal with it. No one wants to try to gain more understanding about the homeless problem, though. They just want it to go away, & it simpy doesn't work like that.
Jerry 609 Now, that's a great idea. They could fold down, one from each sidewall to balance. Nothing fancy, basically two slabs that flip down for sleep and up during day.
I feel like there should be some kind of DIY competition about who can build a tiny and workable cabin the fastest, between all the camping DIY youtubers then you should all have a party afterwards in your lil temporary mini-village. I don't know what the prize for the best cabin would be...but you'd probably learn alot having so many different DIY craft people trying things out in close proximity.
As I watch this series, I am increasingly impressed for the following reason: The Outsider is building the cabin on his grandfather's land, with the help of his father. I admire this generational continuity. I presume they are Canadian and are, therefore, sensible. We in the States can learn much.
birdygranma- sharp pitch roof made of plastic. Snow won’t stick or lay. It will easily slide off with any weight. When door opens and closes, roof acts like a baffle and moves with air pressure forcing any collected snow off roof.
WOW 😮 Awesome 👏 Project Outsider & Senior Outsider!!!! It looks amazing 😉! Glad to see all the things you fellows do together!!! Keep up the good work & the videos coming! As always I have you guys in my prayers🙏!!! 😁👍❤️ ✝️
you can also put some weather stripping tape between the layers, its only adhesive on one side so would still allow the slats to fit together but would cut down on drafts.
normal men do this house all elektric one day, i has working elektric installing and one day can made one full house easy, or 3 day, first day drill all wire line holes and add wires, second day add to wall main fuse box, and wiring, then last day make all new wires what maybe need, and then connect all box and ready all have sockets and light, wery easy work. if wires/cables have in wall have one day thats have full ready , then need only one or two day closed cell spray insulatino all wall and roof, all were have metal wall need spray foam NOT sheet foam, then stay airgap. and lot lot water moisture come in wall, need be spray foam have totally glued to metal wall good then not come moisture .
if not insulate good ,wintertime metal wall made 50-200 gallon water in wall alltime. out could,in warm and metal wall condensation have wery big ,this is big area were made water lot.
This is sheer genius! All I kept thinking was how people who have been displaced by natural disasters could have a small place built to provide shelter while rebuilding their lives. And at a low cost. Thank you so much for sharing and I would definitely buy plans even if only to build a playhouse for my grandkids when they visit!!! A new subscriber today! P.S. Great video. Thanks for not standing in front of the camera and yapping through it like so many others. Excellent work, great camera work too. Very helpful.
I've been searching for project like this for a long time. This Cabin is so simply designed, but despite of that so versatile, that is incerdible. I want to build sth like this and been thinking about some columns in the corners, after that a lot of nails to get those columns and the boards together...but it was all wrong. I appreciate that You share Your great design and style to us and help people like me to take a good path.
wow! it amazes me how one can be out in the cold period! let alone building a cabin!! and where are your gloves?! brrrrrrr! 🥶. it really is an amazing and cozy cabin! great job!
Their Canadian and they are acclimated to the cold. Also you don't see the small breaks they take because of editing. Love and kindness from the Pacific Northwest.
Also, that wood stove is massive for the 8' x 6' shack... A stove half that size would probably be fine. Then add some insulation/panneling and a heatshield for the stove (phase II) - complete the roof (phase III?) - win! Now they just need a couch/bed!
@@drx1xym154 Yes, the Cubic Mini Stove is made in Canada and would be absolutely perfect in this space. You'd have to fill it more often, but you'd have more room inside the cabin.
I love everything about this but most of all the time you got to spend with , I presume, your dad. Mine passed away two years ago and he and I built two workshops together and I would have loved to build this with him. Well done!
Sorry for your loss. I also lost my Dad (and two sisters all in span of 18 months) two years ago. Miss him and my sisters like crazy. It's made me aware that life is short and in so I have a great need for the outdoors. I want to be in nature, experience nature and the peace it gives because you never know when your number is up.
The whole thing was built in one day, but it must have taken quite some time to cut all the boards to the dimensions needed. Also, the room must have taken some planning to get the materials correct dimensions and angles. Kinda like the way you put the roof together. I like it a lot
Agreed, very impressed with the build and the quality of the video (no annoying music, bad camera work or irritating commentary, what we see speaks for itself). This earns them at least one new subscriber.
And THIS my friends is how one does it quickly in the Canadian wilderness! How much fun was this, right?!?! Just add a little elbow grease and voila, an instant shelter with plenty of room. That kit is amazing! I’m wondering why you didn’t put it on skids though, how will you relocate it now, dissemble it? That would definitely make a fine workshop... The options are limitless! Thanks for taking us along brother. I consider you and your dad as the sharpest tools in the shed, you work very well together. 😉✌🏼🤟🏼🤞🏼
There is ABSOLUTELY something so mystical and magical living in a cabin like that in the tundra, call it cheesy. But its an amazing lifestyle to lead, Just living simply, building and surviving.
A "Sawmill house" as my dad would call them. There are hollers that still have quite a few standing and being lived in. Some are probably pushing 100 years old by now.
Scott K the sign of a good video can be all the ideas it generates in the readers. They are not criticizing at all, just taking a wonderful idea and taking it for a ride expanding on their ingenious build.
So enjoyable to watch. Man, I wish I had access to land where I could do something like this. What a nice little escape! You guys always do an excellent job. Cheers!
with the massive wood stove, it is actually, very, very hot! it would compensate for the lack of insulation, though that is a genius design with the "notched" wood planks!
I'm just not sure what to say. Brilliant and yet simple, well at least compared to the big cabin videos. Would make a great hunting cabin, or for a survival situation. Well done !
You are a lucky man to have a great father 🤩👍💖. I missed my own so much 😢. ‘Love the door 🚪 of this little cabin, and yes, of course, the overall cabin. 👍
This is fantastic. I don’t know why, but I was thinking you were going to make a Dutch door 🚪 Thank you so much for sharing all of your videos. I look forward to seeing episode 2. Bless you and your family.
Now that is cozy. I would add a solid roof eventually because of the short life of tarps but that is just great. The potential for the homeless community is huge. Terrific job!
@@UkrainianPaulie Granted some wouldn't but there are those who are in their position due to sad circumstances they could not avoid and who deserve a chance.
Fantastic build! One suggestion, use Reflectix insulation under the floor. It comes in a roll 4ft wide. You could also put it on top of the rafters before the tarp. Blessings.
For heat, a mini cubic stove would work here. Your larger stove would hold coals longer, but would probably be a sauna, except during deep winter. I do want to say Awesome job on that build.

The more you understand about an issue, the better equipped you will be to deal with it. No one wants to try to gain more understanding about the homeless problem, though. They just want it to go away, & it simpy doesn't work like that.
@Amber how do you know? You been there.??
@@916619jg who is to say the location?
I think I've done seen about everything when I see two dudes throw a cabin together like they're working with Lincoln Logs. Damned thing's a beauty!
Great ideas in there. I might add a couple of fold down bunks hung on the walls to keep you up a bit off the cold floor.
Hammocks !
Murphy bed
Are the walls thick enough for bunks or would you build them close to the wall but not connected?
Jerry 609 Now, that's a great idea. They could fold down, one from each sidewall to balance. Nothing fancy, basically two slabs that flip down for sleep and up during day.
Bottles of rum. Then sleep on the floor.
No one Nowhere hell ya I would watch that
I was really impressed by how quickly the simple designed walls went up...
I was less impressed by the lack of a toilet and somewhere to wash
It also lacks an indoor pool and jacuzzi, but I can overlook that shortfall... 😎
As I watch this series, I am increasingly impressed for the following reason: The Outsider is building the cabin on his grandfather's land, with the help of his father. I admire this generational continuity. I presume they are Canadian and are, therefore, sensible. We in the States can learn much.
Too bad canadians can't have guns
Lmao..OK.... not all Canadians are sensible... look who their PM is 😂

Absolutely genius. I’m starting mine this weekend based on your idea. 8x12. Love the roof! So easy !
I watched a crap tun of videos on cabin building and whoever came up with this design is the easiest genius idea alive ever seen!🎉
Fantastic build. Now I have 2 things to build once I get my timberking sawmill. Keep the ideas coming. Best wishes to you and dad. God bless!
That is the thinnest roof I have ever seen in my life.
But you did do what seems to be most of it in a single day.
I'm impressed.
John Dough will be easy to remove tarp and complete the roof properly in warmer temperatures.
@@judymanuel1994 I agree
Being he started with two planks at the peak one to NOT rip the tarp and to start the plank roof. . This is epo 1 as the heading states
what happens when there's a heavy snow? would that roof be able to temporarily stay up I wonder ? nice cabin tho. 😚✌️❄️
birdygranma- sharp pitch roof made of plastic.
As always I have you guys in my prayers🙏!!!

you can also put some weather stripping tape between the layers, its only adhesive on one side so would still allow the slats to fit together but would cut down on drafts.
You have so much precision in everything that you do. This is a true gem! Kudos! 💪
Very cool. You guys do more work in a day than I do in a year!
normal men do this house all elektric one day, i has working elektric installing and one day can made one full house easy, or 3 day, first day drill all wire line holes and add wires, second day add to wall main fuse box, and wiring, then last day make all new wires what maybe need, and then connect all box and ready all have sockets and light, wery easy work. if wires/cables have in wall have one day thats have full ready , then need only one or two day closed cell spray insulatino all wall and roof, all were have metal wall need spray foam NOT sheet foam, then stay airgap. and lot lot water moisture come in wall, need be spray foam have totally glued to metal wall good then not come moisture .
if not insulate good ,wintertime metal wall made 50-200 gallon water in wall alltime. out could,in warm and metal wall condensation have wery big ,this is big area were made water lot.
P.S. I don't know if this is a father/son duo, but I love watching you work together. Great bonding opportunities for families (boys and girls)

Also, that wood stove is massive for the 8' x 6' shack...
A stove half that size would probably be fine. Then add some insulation/panneling and a heatshield for the stove (phase II) - complete the roof (phase III?) - win!

How are your forests in Scotland?
The perfection in the cuts that they’ve used is amazing
Brilliant build design; this turned out really well. Didn't think it was possible to build one in a day. Super video. Thanks for sharing. Best wishes.
The whole thing was built in one day, but it must have taken quite some time to cut all the boards to the dimensions needed. Also, the room must have taken some planning to get the materials correct dimensions and angles. Kinda like the way you put the roof together. I like it a lot

A "Sawmill house" as my dad would call them. There are hollers that still have quite a few standing and being lived in. Some are probably pushing 100 years old by now.

For heat, a mini cubic stove would work here. Your larger stove would hold coals longer, but would probably be a sauna, except during deep winter. I do want to say Awesome job on that build.
