Absolutely love the fact you put all this together in one video. It's the worst having to watch several long drawn out videos to see less than what you did. As someone who plans to do this same thing with my house and know the amount of work behind it (I was surprised when I saw you finish that concrete by yourself), this is extremely satisfying to see be done as well as impressive. Great video, great job, super stoked.
When i was a boy i used to love spending Saturdays helping my grandfather with various projects, rowboat building, log-splitting, various small carpentry projects ideal for a 10 -13 year old and 70 year old to undertake together. He measured twice, cut once... i had the fetch and carry with the boundless enthusiasm of a child. Covid lockdown allowed me time otherwise spent commuting to work with my 12 year old son. Built a garden shed together, raised brick flower beds, patio, etc. Too many men (and especially boys) have lost the joy of creating things with our hands. I remember my wife telling my son that he'd be better with a hammer if he spent less time on his Nintendo. He went from his nickname 'on site' being 'Lightning' (never struck the same place twice) to 'The Human Rivetter ' in about a fortnight. Great times, real bonding, proud of what we built together and protective of it. We need not to do as much as practicable ourselves to affirm our identities and values.
I nominate this for the TH-cam excellence in video editing award. I also nomiate it for musical score award as well. Do people realize he engineered his own truss system? Massively overbuilt with mending plates and hurricane ties.
Always! Be sure to waterproof between the concrete slab and the board placed on it. Without waterproofing, the bottom board will constantly draw moisture from the concrete and become damp, which will cause accelerated formation of fungus and rot, no matter what impregnation this board is impregnated with.
Lol you want to explain to my landlord who placed peal and stick flooring on top of concrete this lol the moisture transfer is causing the flooring to start lifting at the edges 😅
@@annimok tell him yourself. your landlord, you speak. you see what is happening to the house, point out his mistakes. do not be silent. Absolutely STUNNING. I can't believe you did all that beautiful work for tools. I thought it was going to be like a mother-in-law suite.❤❤❤❤ It's still stunning. 😊😊
Everyone take a moment and think about 11:10. That is the moment of "can I catch it" being replaced with "the ground will" logic. Always remember the ground will catch whatever you drop because it's not worth getting hurt trying to prove yourself. It's saved my family's feet, hands, etc. a number of times. We've also been injured not following that rule the same number of times.
I really enjoyed this video. Hats off to you and your family. I especially liked the humor throughout. The overhead door warning then installation showed respect for safety, topped with pure determination for the single person crew. You seem to operate like myself at times. What ever it takes to stay on schedule. Great job and thanks!
Great job on your shed, especially doing the work by yourself. Couple of questions I had 1) square washers on the sole/sill plates, 2) appears rafters are built as trusses (engineered) or a hybrid rafter system, 3)outlooks framed at gable ends appear to be nailed on putting fastened nails in shear, 4) if OSB wall sheathing is for shear value what is fastener spacing (edge & field), 5) caulking indoor perimeter sole/sill plates? Again, props for a great informative video and a beautiful shed!
Bro this is what you call PROFESSIONAL! When you installed that TV I almost started crying knowing I will never have something like this! This is a work of art! 👍🏽👊🏽
What a satisfying feeling it must be to build a house! Your work looks perfect and your using it for a workshop I'm guessing, shoot it's nice enough to live in! Enjoyed watching the process, thanks!
I really enjoyed watching this series. Also, I appreciate you sharing all of your mistakes. It helps me not beat up myself when I make a mistake on my basement room build. 😅 Your production value for a one man band is off the charts.💯 KUDOS!! KEEP IT UP 🤟
At the very end, I saw the link to "I think I built a tiny house," and through the whole video I was thinking it reminded me of a Mother-in-law cottage. Nice work.
Building a tiny house alone over seven months is a significant achievement. It’s a project that requires a wide range of skills, from carpentry and roofing to plumbing and electrical work. The result is not just a home, but a testament to the builder’s resourcefulness, determination, and vision.
Wow amazing u did that by yourself and a little bit help from your wife it looks beautiful out side but the thing I am amazed about was all your gadgets that u made to help u along with building great job.x
Love this video great work only thing I've would have done is put foam sheet on the bottom plate because its sitting right on the fondation and can cause wood rot quicker if water gets in.
Ok! What a talented and skilled young man you are. Self sufficiency is lacking today. If you have the time in your life, please share yourself through community engagement and education in some way with children from all cultures if possible. YOU are needed. Your family is blessed to have you. I appreciate too showing your mistakes and your sense of humor. Now that takes confidence in ones self. Don't get cocky though, please be careful!
That is a SERIOUS Shed! At first I thought a quick build for Garden type tools but this is Def a Skill level higher than the average person can likely easily handle...Maybe TWO or more ppl building this lol. -Mark.
Best DIY video I have ever seen. Production was spot on from showing the close-up after each step. Hands down best tutorial I have ever seen. But the music dude....come on. 😂
Thank you for this video, it was enjoyable and satisfying to watch. Thank you for showing us all your mistakes and near misses. You made it all look fast and easy. I didn't think about how much time it took until the day It started to snow. I see it took seven months. At any rate well done. You've inspired me to think I could make one too! Love the black contrast you chose, looks cool! Later
Just looking at the video made me tired.. lol A lot of work but surely the result was worth it all! I'm glad you stayed in one piece. Congrats on this fine build. :)
This book was a great resource for ideas, practical advice th-cam.com/users/postUgkx-b91_bYU48sOwHX-XC49tRRXRxcnOmZm and pro tips I purchased the plans for the 10'x16' colonial and used them for the basics and made my own modifications. I built my shed for storage and lawn equipment, but decided to sheath and side it in case I ever wanted to add insulation and turn it into a shop or bunkhouse. I poured over this book all winter while I planned and found it to be the all-around best shed book out there.
A nice garden shed. I renovate an old pig stable in the backyard of my house ago 10 years. The stable is made in the 1930 years. It is building complete with bricks.
Cool shed, nice work! I'd have cut that slab myself as I don't think expansion/contraction cracking will look good there but hopefully it won't be too bad for you.
Wow...amazing hard worked . Good job. keep it up . That's great working alone, I'm relate for what you doing. Nice content, see you next video. Happy new year. Greeting from Philippines ❤
Great job, it came out great. Just wondering though, at what point will the house be lifted up to put the moisture barrier between the concrete and bottom plates? Because, moisture will get in there 100% and without that barrier, will rot the bottoms out over time.
Truly works great on my dw718. Nice fit and craftsmanship. Now if you could make something for my old delta contractor saw i would be very happy. Thanks 😊
The house was built so wonderfully, you guys are amazing with your passionate project. Meticulous detailed construction helps me learn more about how to build a house. Thank you
Is this on your property? If so, you might want to consider building a Feldbahn-system. It's german for field railway. A narrow gauge railway with a gauge of (typically) 600mm. Easy to lay, relatively cheap to build and very effective.
It's not recommended to put a tarp under your concrete foundation. Usually, you would put graval or rock down so the water would drain and not bild up. Otherwise, it could compromise the slab, making it settle, making it unleval, or even crack.
Actually, he did right. That was a moisture barrier to minimize moisture seeping up into the slab. The problem was the fill. You’re correct in using washed stone or coarse comparable sand. The material seemed to be topsoil and was very clumpy and not compacted properly. The positive side is it was placed over undisturbed soil. Over time subsidence could be a problem after a couple of freeze thaw cycles leading to slab subsidence. It’s gonna crack. That’s just the nature of concrete, but the major concern is subsidence. We all, however are (or should be) constantly learning, and the only bad mistake is the one we don’t learn from. Otherwise I’ll say it was a fantastic build! I especially love the TV idea!
I really don’t know a lot about building but how do you prevent the concrete base from sinking in in case of an earthquake or if the earth under it gets very wet and soft?
I was wondering what zone he was building in. Regardless of a frost line that dirt didn't even looked tamped down before they poured the concrete. I would imagine that rain would do a number on eroding the soil under the pad. 🤷♂

I think the soil needs to be compacted before laying down the concrete
Yeah. But this definitely isn’t a tiny house. Just a shed. Doesn’t have to last long lol😂
