    Happy Birthday buddy! I was considering offering all of the DIY coatings to my customers but I’m having a hard time justifying the 3 year after this video. I know you have put it through the ringer but I want to be confident in the coatings we offer and I can only imagine the type of abuse some of my customers will put it through which is another big factor for me.

      It’s doing well on my wife’s car, but it gets touched once a week and is garaged most of the time. No winter salts either. I thought it would do better than this though.

    I'm glad you made this update! I too was having issues with the 3 year. A vehicle I coated with it 3 months ago came in yesterday for a maintenance wash and the whole coating was slow sheeting. Spoke to some friends of mine and they too have had issues with it degrading prematurely as well. The 8 year that I installed 7 months ago still looks like day 1 though!

    • @CarsWithKeav
      @CarsWithKeav  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      8 year is doing well on my car as well after a year. Garaged mostly though and only washed once a week and rarely an opportunity for the coating to get clogged so a perfect case scenario for durability. Yvan does say after a decon leave in the sun for the day if it’s not working well. “The chemical decontamination process lightly scars the surface, the sun will close it back up again. Once you bring it in, do a quick DIY Detail Rinse Less Wash, use some DIY Detail Water Spot Remover, no agitation, dwell a few mins rinse, then check again” Now this did not help my 3 year, but it made the 5 and 8 to me even better than they were.

    • @CarsWithKeav
      @CarsWithKeav  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Depending on the road grime it can lose the evading. Maintenance wash usually helps, but it’s only been a few weeks. Ceramic gloss will get the Hydrophobics back for sure.

    I really hate to say this because I do like DIY Detail products, and have had zero issues with everything I've purchased, but for that 3-year coating to react like that (even though you've washed that hood multiple times), again just from my pov, that hood has been kept indoors and out of the outdoor elements. A wax or sealant and all those daily washings and abuse I would understand. In no way am I speaking negatively, but I would give the 3-year coating a hard pass, and give the 5-year and 8-year coatings a hell yeah. I have yet to try their coatings. I did try to buy the 5-year when they had a short-term sale during the 2023 holidays when buying the 5-year coating you also received the 3-year at no charge (I think). This didn't happen only because the website had an issue, or the product was sold out. Again, DIY Detail products are great. Thank you for another great review. Updates are key to good products. Maybe the 3-year requires two coats?

    • @CarsWithKeav
      @CarsWithKeav  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s possible it failed that early well the attributes failed you still got to polish it off. The only reason my conclusion is not fully that way is I have that coating on my wifes car and it is holding up fine for the same timeframe.

  • @MyGuyKirby
    @MyGuyKirby 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    That 3-year is not performing as well as I expected given DIY quality and realistic expectations. However all the longer formula's compared well but key is the concentration of the ceramic levels, often longer equates to stronger resistance to chemicals and gloss second.

    • @CarsWithKeav
      @CarsWithKeav  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is the main attribute to the 8 year is the chemical resistance. Everybody is saying the 5 year on their car is holding up real well. Mixed bag on the 3 year I’m sure the coating is still there just not at it’s optimum anymore.

      @@CarsWithKeav agreed. Although its been in a controlled environment and not seen the abrasion from road salt and sand and wind and sun. I would think in your environment and with all the washing keeping the coating from getting clogged it would last way longer.

      @@jfarm_1311 I don’t think it has that abrasion resistance the other two coatings have. Agreed on the controlled environment which is why the next coating going on is going to get left outside a lot more. Not much road salt in the south so I couldn’t replicate that anyways or the sand.

    Doesn't look that impressive for the 3 year. I know you do a ton of washes, and throw a LOT of car cleaning products at it, but that hood isn't being subjected to the sun, or other assorted cr@p out in the environment.

    • @CarsWithKeav
      @CarsWithKeav  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For sure UV light depends on the amount as some UV is actually good for the coating especially after a maintenance wash from what Yvan told me. “The chemical decontamination process lightly scars the surface, the sun will close it back up again.”

  • @seashackf1
    @seashackf1 22 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    The over selling and marketing of coatings is one of the reasons I’ve stayed away from them. The stated timeframes are just ridiculous. There’s no chance the 8 year lasts anywhere near that long on anything but a show car. These ridiculous claims turn me off more than anything. The product hasn’t been out long and the company isn’t much older than that. So there is no real world history to back it up or any guarantee the company will even be around in 5 years. I just so sick of marketing and overhyping things. The worst part for me is that it works on the masses.
    I always top up after each wash so a coating didn’t seem necessary. I’m finally looking to do a coating, but with bit more realistic expectations. I’m going to treat it more as a longer term sealant/base coat for my topper so at least there’s something under if it failed. I won’t be using DIY, but a competitor who’s been a bit more realistic about expectations and is cheaper. Ive almost completely weened myself off the expensive boutique brands. As everything has gotten better it’s just a matter of finding the products that work just as well and are a good value.

    • @CarsWithKeav
      @CarsWithKeav  22 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      You have a few points I agree with and I always respect others opinions as long as it is constructive and is not just a few words of hate. I do agree on the timeframes, but I can't really factually state they can't last that long as it has not been 8 years. I think 8 is possible with like you said for a well kept garaged car that is in the south (Show Car). I never go by the years really other than to decide which to use I know the 8 year which might not last 8 is going to be the more durable and of course more expensive due to the use of the more expensive chemical known as Silicon Nitride which is the more flexible type and is what keeps the coating from fracturing and failing over time. The more durable the coating the concentration of Silicon Nitride is going to be there which of course raises the price.

    • @seashackf1
      @seashackf1 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@CarsWithKeav I definitely understand that different chemicals can cost more, but I have a feeling there is a massive profit margin in coatings. Seems that way with the chemical segment of this industry. The amount they charge for research, blending the chemicals, packaging and selling in some cases is crazy. Some brands just seem aimed at higher price points as their business model. When I find a much cheaper product or brand that works as well or better than an expensive one, which we are seeing more and more of these days, it kind of proves the point.
      I can’t blame these companies for charging it if people are willing to pay though. That’s where it’s on us as consumers to be more discerning. Luckily we have things like YT and forums these days so we can share our real world experiences and help each other weed through the good and bad products. This video is a great example of your experience with a product and people in the comments sharing their experiences with it too and we’re all better off for it. Keep up the good work. These video reviews definitely help a lot of people focus their spending to suit their needs.👍

    • @CarsWithKeav
      @CarsWithKeav  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@seashackf1 I think the biggest thing is in todays market with constant evolving technologies you have to recoup your research costs much sooner as the time on market is probably much less than it used to be before you have to come out with version 2 or a whole other line to compete with everybody else. So much competition sometimes it’s better to charge more and rely more on that and less on volume. All about business models. If people will pay it then why not charge it. Also inflation is crazy as well on everything from bottles, spray heads, etc. some companies use crap spray heads and others spend more on food Tolco ones.
