Once I was in Toad Town, I went to the Inn due to being at one health, but when I woke up, it was really scary and crap like that. EVERY SINGLE PERSON TURNED TO A SHEEP! Some of my partners hated me after, Bow came up to me and said "You suck bruh." And then I cried and turned off the game. The next day I tried getting back on to see if it was fixed. Sadly it wasn't. Everyone was a goat now! And then they killed me The End :3
Ethan Thenoobygamer It might take a while though, I've been busy on some stuff lately(CAUSE CHRISTMAS AND SHT)And I might have trouble finding your comment. Just comment on this comment every 3 days or so, And it'll be fine.
+pannenkoek2012 Not that we know of, I think Bonecrusher1022 verified with cheat engine that he doesn't have a health value. It would be interesting if we found a way to kill him though. Love your videos by the way!
@@DelaRosaGirls I saw that video. Not pointless enough. Badge Duplication is at least arduous enough to reward Bragging Rights to whomever decides to do it. Pointless glitches wouldn't even give you bragging rights of "I did the thing"
@@DelaRosaGirls what I'm talking about are things that are technically glitches that someone could accidentally do and not notice that they happened, or glitches that you could feasibly be able to do consistently after only a few attempts, but serve no purpose in the speedrun, for bragging rights or any purpose other than making you go "how could you overlook that?" An example from a different game, specifically Pokemon, would be the Facade glitch in the Gen 4 Pokemon games, where every time a Pokemon used the move Facade, they'd move up by one pixel for some reason, with repeated uses of the move continuing to move the Pokemon's sprite up one pixel at a time. Is it easy to do? Yes. Does it do literally anything to effect the gameplay? No. Yeah, Stryder might have to expand the list from just one game to cover the whole Paper Mario series, maybe even every Mario RPG ever, from the SNES original to the Mario and Luigi games to get enough for a top 10, but even four years later, I still think "top 10 completely pointless glitches" would be interesting.
It is crazy that you don't have more subscribers yet, all the PM stuff is really informative and to the point. I don't know why a lot of channels try to throw in dumb humor, it's fantastic that you're not doing that at all.
+Lmsln Glad you like the format! Thanks for the compliment :) When it comes to these Top 10 Glitch videos I have two goals: Informative & Interesting. A lot of us in the Paper Mario community have spent a long time testing things and coming up with new ideas...maybe we're a bunch of huge nerds that take the game too seriously, but hey, we want to share this information to entertain others or even inspire new glitch hunters. I feel like attempts at humor during these would come off as "trying too hard to be funny," and that defeats the purpose.
I’m listening to this and I noticed how you’ve shifted into a more natural tone of voice over the last few years. I want to tell you how proud I am of you and your work- you’ve certainly shed light on some glitches and boundary breaks that help speedrunners find an optimal path. I wish you every happiness.
+Power-Joy64 Game breaking glitches as in, the game crashes? If so, I'll look into it. I've found a lot more crashes since the last video but I'm not sure if I have quite enough to make another one.
+Riverstarship Thank you! And yep, I actually figured it out for the purpose of this video. These Top 10s are really fun to make for a number of reasons. They're great for glitch documentation, bringing attention to the Paper Mario speedrunning / glitch hunting community, and ensuring that we understand certain glitches well enough to explain it (I don't want to go around saying false information. Unfortunately, it'll probably happen from time to time because our understanding for this game is constantly evolving...but I want to avoid the whole "I think this is what happens" if possible. I'd much rather be able to tell you guys with certainty.
hey, these are quality videos. really interesting and good editing. cant wait to see more! keep up the good work :D also, im really surprised you dont have more subs, but im sure that will change quickly.
I've known this game since its release in 2001, and good sir, you have demonstrated and explained some real cool facts and tricks in great detail that's easy to understand (for a Computer Science student such as myself). Continue the awesome research and game playing. :)
The fact that I just did #10 and #8 on the WiiU Virtual Console version and saw that they still work, probably means that the game is still just as broken on the WiiU. I'd love to see you do a speedrun of Paper Mario on the WiiU Virtual Console version!
+MegaZack30 We haven't tested Wii U much so this is good to hear! And yeah the Wii U Japanese Version is the fastest so I'd do runs if I had a Japanese Wii U. Problem is, those are expensive lol.
+Stryder7x Just checked, and it's 32,800 Yen, or $331 in US currency. Considering the WiiU is the most powerful Nintendo console, no doubt the load times are fast on Paper Mario, but from experiences, there is _some_ frameskipping in some areas, and even slowdown (Not emulated slowdown, but real slowdown where the console slows down and the audio skips) in a late point in Chapter 3. As for glitches that straight-out crash the game and the whole system (Classic Wii Virtual Console), I wonder how ear-piercing the sound is on the WiiU. ;)
+MegaZack30 Yeah lol, who knows. I mean, to be fair to the Wii / Wii U, they are basically functioning as official emulators for this game, and emulating things isn't the same as reading from a disc. But yeah, it's interesting to think about for sure.
The cheerful music stops. Everything is quiet. Toads wander aimlessly with an empty smile on their face, not saying a word. And frozen in my view is the question... "would you like to take a nap?"
I am DAMN near convinced you and Cr1tikal are the same person. You're just missing anything involving nipples. Great video, too. Didn't realize my favorite game as a kid could be so broken!
I just found your videos, and let me just say that I really like how you make them. You sound professional as you do the voice-overs, and it just makes it enjoyable for me. You also showcase and explain each glitch really well. And also, thank you for not cursing. Sometimes I try and find new youtubers to watch but because of some of the content in their videos (like the cursing, for example), I end up not watching them. But I think I'll be watching some more of your videos! I think my favorite glitch here is the one where the penguins walk on the abyss. "Ah, I love sliding on ice." xD
+Mint Lilon Hey, thanks for the compliment! As far as cursing in videos go, the live reaction commentary to stuff might have that (like Background Swap Glitch, Part 1 does). But I really don't see a reason to curse in these more "professionally commentated" videos, so no worries there. :)
Of course! Thank you so much for letting me know. I appreciate your kindness and courtesy! I'm seriously considering getting Paper Mario 64 even more now after watching these glitches. I'll probably download it off the Wii U Eshop.
Watching your videos on paper mario made me buy the online expansion just so I could play paper mario myself. I don't regret it in the slightest and I can see why you like this game so much I've only just reached Dry Dry Outpost but I've had some amazing laughs already
I know imma little late to comment on this video, but the first one likely is due to a refactor in the game codebase that happened at some point. The function reponsible for actually saving might've been called Save() first and was renamed to DoSave() afterwards. A lot of IDEs (code editors) will do a string-search when refactoring, and when not disabled, can lead to function renaming affecting resource strings unrelated to the function being refactored. Quite a common occurrence actually. Great video as always, even after such a long time :D
Why #9 does that is because that when Mario pushes, the game registers as a push animation but also has mario slightly pushed up so when he is pushing on a ledge, it registers as jumping but it doesn't register as mario jumping so that's why you can jump while midair. Or Mario is trying to be pushed to the nearest open loading zone
If in number 1, Goombario will be pushed down if you keep jumping on him until it's his turn, if you had multi-bounce and kept chaining it over and over and over, would you and him progressively go lower and lower and lower? I need to see this.
I think the missing music issue in the “would you like to take a nap” glitch might be related to the game trying to change the music back from the cutscene music to the previous music, but, due to the music being returned to the default because of the nap, it ends up trying to change the music back from the normal music to the previous music, which doesn’t exist, resulting in the current music being set to null, resulting in there being no music.
The DoSave completed also works at m.t lava lava it also the save and don't save text appeared in battle. I have not talk to the npc do I'm on chapter 8
I think the tutorial action glitch is a result of advancing the tutorial state past what was intended by retriggering it, so it does strange things as a result of not doing specific things that would only be done one-time at a point in the story's progress. My guess is that there is some sort of battle control state that is set to locked before beginning the tutorial, except.. there is a 2nd state that has action commands locked before this tutorial. Retriggering the battle causes it to advance past this state again causing weird stuff to happen.
I wonder if you can do any sort of clip in the final rooms of Peach's castle. Clipping your way into the door and maybe fall out of bounds and fight Bowser while first striking him. That would be hilarious.
I know this is kind of off topic, but why did they use howling wolf sound effects? I'm a wolf lover and I don't remember there being any wolves in the Mario series, if I'm mistaken.
Just tried the edible present glitch. My game crashed when I came out of battle and put up a screen full of RAM values. Maybe that's what was in the present? Did I hit B instead of A? Was it because I was in Pleasant Path instead of Lavalava Island? Not sure :/
so I was doing the do save complete glitch then it crashed and the name is called TLB EXEPTION ON LOAD do you know why this just happened? Edit thinking it over I think I managed to hit the save block twice
I THINK I KNOW WHY THE LAKE GLITCH EXISTS! Perhaps the game renders everything in the level at once, even if its off-screen, including transparent textures. I can definitely see how a transparent texture would be hard to render. Perhaps there is another never seen state of the lake, that only appears when the lake is out of view, and when it comes into view, it transfers back to whatever state it was last. But if that state IS the the never seen state, then you can view it!
He has a video dedicated to the lake glitch, where he explains that jumping on it increments a value that determines its state, and performing the glitch gets around the code that normally resets it. The other states are unused, and I suspect the melted lake state is used later in the game. Also, weirder stuff happens when he overflows that value.
Because some of these glitches only work in certain versions, I'm curious if anyone knows which version of this game is optimal for a regular speedrun and why?
Twinkle: hold left. Twinkle: hold left. Twinkle: hold left. Twinkle: hold left. Twinkle: hold left. Mario: SHUT UP, TWINKLE! Twinkle: hold left. Twinkle: hold left. Twinkle: hold left. Twinkle: hold left. Twinkle: hold left. Twinkle: hold left. Twinkle: hold left. Twinkle: hold left. Twinkle: hold left. Twinkle: hold left. Mario: JUST SHUT UP! look. LOOK! I'M NOT EVEN HOLDING THE HAMMER RIGHT NOW! JUST STOP! QUIET! SHUT UP!
The hammer slowly inching towards a squished goombario and the hitting a whole 12 damage....That was glorious.

It actually hits twice for some reason, which the game registers as confirming.

I know this is kind of off topic, but why did they use howling wolf sound effects? I'm a wolf lover and I don't remember there being any wolves in the Mario series, if I'm mistaken.
Pretty sure the Devs wanted the Forest (can't remember what it's called) to seem somewhat realistic
Just tried the edible present glitch. My game crashed when I came out of battle and put up a screen full of RAM values. Maybe that's what was in the present? Did I hit B instead of A? Was it because I was in Pleasant Path instead of Lavalava Island? Not sure :/
I don't know any specific details, but for the RAM values part, it sounds like you were probably playing on an N64
The last glitch was SO FUNNY IT MADE ME LAUGH XD
Don't spin in the game if you're showing off sound.

so I was doing the do save complete glitch then it crashed and the name is called TLB EXEPTION ON LOAD do you know why this just happened?

I THINK I KNOW WHY THE LAKE GLITCH EXISTS!
Perhaps the game renders everything in the level at once, even if its off-screen, including transparent textures.
I can definitely see how a transparent texture would be hard to render.
Perhaps there is another never seen state of the lake, that only appears when the lake is out of view, and when it comes into view, it transfers back to whatever state it was last.
But if that state IS the the never seen state, then you can view it!
yas good thinking
He has a video dedicated to the lake glitch, where he explains that jumping on it increments a value that determines its state, and performing the glitch gets around the code that normally resets it. The other states are unused, and I suspect the melted lake state is used later in the game. Also, weirder stuff happens when he overflows that value.
