Thanks for this Billy! I had a towel that I used to dry my car get stuck in between the seat and the metal latch. One of my seats would not fold down and I was unable to pull the towel out as it was stuck behind the latch. This worked like a charm so thank you so much!
This technique worked for my 2011 Acura TSX. In my case, the release cable was surrounded in a grey foam. I used a screwdriver to lift this cable up so I could grab it with some needle nose pliers. I was able to pull this cable with the pliers and the seat released
If you open the trunk of your Civic on the upper left hand side there is a button like lever that you pull with an icon that signifies folding seats. You pull while you push on your left passenger side seat.

Brooo you life saverrrr Locked my keys in my trunk and locked the inside trunk latch with my key. No spare key either it’s either break my inside latch to unlock it or open it. Roadside help otw to open my door then hopefully I can use this to get to the trunk so I can obtain my keys. ( don’t ask how it’s locked in there I dropped it while closing the trunk ik I’m dumb 🥲)

Bicycle spoke is Easier than Screwdriver. Hold a bike spoke with a vise grip and use the hooked end to pull up on the cable using the vise grip.
