Horrible design flaw by Honda by only allowing you to release the lever from the trunk. Every other car ever made has the lever inside the car. Very inconvenient.
If your power is out you Cannot get in the trunk. Maybe to get jumpers???? Ararararargh

Tell me about it I got rear ended and until I get my trunk fixed, I am afraid to open it because it might not close again
If you’re locked out of the trunk in this car you’re also locked out of the car. So your argument is invalid. Now if someone is trapped in the trunk they can get to the car without opening a latch outside.

Wow, I've owned one brand new off the lot since mid 2016 and never knew how to do this. I have a huge TV I needed to transport to my new apartment and didn't have a large vehicle handy. Also, with how many times I've open the trunk, how the hell did I not see the latches right there!?

Anyone know why they have the brackets on the seat backs? The brackets get in the way! On Toyota’s the brackets are flipped, so the seat backs are flat and don’t get in the way.
My 07 Civic has the pulls in the trunk too.I wish Honda would have kept the release on the seat like it was in he 80s and 90s. Makes no sense since you have to pull down the seats anyway
I think it is for security. So your trunk remains locked.

I have my brand new civic and I couldn’t figure it out
My 2012 Civic doesn't have those release levers and I am really confused about how to put the seats down.
It must be different on a 2012. These are the instructions that I found on google for a 2012.
1)Take the center rear seat belt out of the guide (if it’s left in the guide, the seat won’t fold).
2)Open the trunk.
3)Pull the seat release lever on the right and left sides of the seat back (only accessible from the trunk).
4)Push the seats forward, or pull them forward from inside the car.

Kinda sucks that there's no way to open them from inside the cab. That's poor design. If your trunk won't open, you'd still be able to access what's in it if you could open them from the inside of the car.

Thank you, I looked like a fool outside of home depot for 10 mins as I was struggling to make the seat work like my 2004 Honda civic🙄 the new design makes sense for safety reasons however so I get it, now.
