Hey so wanted you to know that your videos really inspired me to get outdoors and start camping. I was in a deep depression and headed to a really dark place. I am good now and doing great. Thank you so much for your videos.
That's awesome Greg! The outdoors is definitely soothing for the soul. Things slow down and you have time to enjoy the sunrise, the sunset, animals doing their thing, the smells, the feeling of the wind, the sounds. It truly is a therapy like none other. Hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, all great ways to get outdoors as often as possible and enjoy the good things in life nature has to offer. Cheers!
I have no idea how Susie manages to not worry herself about you Luke. You seem to get happier and more excited about being out in conditions that most of us know are seriously life threatening. Bless her heart for being strong and bless your heart for being brave.
Do know why so she can get it on with Anton she has tried it on with a lot of his Fk buddies 😂she said it's the reason because he fked Caroline, her university buddy
So cool that you bumped into fans while you were hiking! There are a lot of us living vicariously through your adventures. Please never stop being so kind and always stay a kid at heart!
Spring and fall are also good. Nobody likes camping in the rain. It can be colder than in the snow, if you're not properly equipped, and most folks stay home, so you have the woods to yourself.
FYI Luke, 1st thanks for the video! I needed a coffee break From an era you're just a tad young to remember, "Broken Arrow" was Also Viet Nam war open mike code to bring all assets to a location, usually aircraft. It ment a flier or ground unit was down and about to be or was being over run by hostile forces. Like calling in artillery right on top of your position was called "danger close", for no margin of error.
As a small child I went every weekend with my grandparents to our cabin in the M.N. Woods. They turned me loose in the morning with my babysitter, a large dog. In the winter it looked just like this. Thinking of it now, it’s quite amazing they would turn a 5 yr old loose in the woods. I would build “houses” & “forts “. When the bell rang through the woods for lunch, the dog started barking and off we went to the fire and hot lunch. I can’t imagine nowadays letting a 5 yr old into the deep woods alone with only her dog. Great way to grow up.
Gotta love the commitment to getting the shot, so much so that you're taking alternate routes to place cameras in order to not be walking in the same path through the snow.
Having a Hilleberg tent, most any Hilleberg tent & you KNOW it will provide shelter during the storm, cold, rain, & snow. In the weather conditions that Mother Nature came up with, it's truly comforting to crawl inside the pitched tent where you'll stay sheltered & with a good air mattress & sleeping bag, you'll be comfy cozy. I've never experienced the weather conditions you were faced with in this video & never slept inside a Hilleberg 4-season tent because I'm a 3-season overnighter & my Hilleberg Enan has provided me with all the shelter I've ever needed/wanted. Yes, I've overnighted down to 5º & experienced strong gusty windy conditions all night. Even woke up one morning to find that it had snowed during the night. Yes, I had the foresight to add big heavy rocks on top of all the tent stakes the night before. Twas a memorable overnighter, for sure. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada
Fjallraven pack and a Hilleberg tent, I'm freaking loving it!! You're the only guy I know that actually gets excited about being absolutely blasted by a serious cold front Brother, you are definitely a Man's Man
@@TrekkingPackingGear Yup, although it's nothing like Luke overnight in tents in the middle of nowhere! I was out during the day on Saturday where it started out at a balmy 0 and got up near freezing in the afternoon. I'm hoping for more snow by next weekend because it's been cold but not too snowy here.
I just started watching camping videos. There is nothing better than listening to rain or snow. Most people I know hate snow. I love it. It's so peaceful & quiet & it's always a time of reflection & prayer when it's quiet & with the music of rain or snow coming down.
Welcome to the camping club my friend. You'll learn a lot of your resilience living the outdoor life and, if you're into God, about God's creation and hopefully the wisdom he hides in plain sight in His creation. May God reveal much to you and welcome to your new journey.
Thanks, the guy who sent you the bag is a really good friend cause I looked it up and that bag costs $900 US dollars! That's without shipping. I would like to see this same hike in the spring so we can see the difference. Maybe you already have, thanks again for the video.
One of the best outdoor /camping channels there is and this episode was completely magical. Sometimes these miserable "completion " walks are the best . Great stuff mate ( as we say in New Zealand) .
I also couldn't help but notice that your gear is absolutely top shelf and bomb proof. That shows your level of respect for this approaching winter storm.
Hey. I'm in New England. We are expecting a blizzard tomorrow thru Sunday. Ha ha I will be wearing my swiss alpenflaunge poncho! Yeah. Still loving that ridiculous thing. Lol. With that, a Hilleberg a shovel and some gaitors I be bomb proof. Awesome!
We are waiting on a 'serious' lake effect snowstorm off of Lake Ontario to start today in which we are supposed to get upwards of 20 inches of snow from. Combined with some winds of +25mph and the sub-artic temps we have been experiencing (+20* to -27*) and watching this video, it almost makes me want to get out my old 4 season tent and set it up in either the back yard or woods behind the house and do a winter weather overnighted myself!! Only things stopping me are a) haven't been feeling to good for the last few days (not covid, just regular flu like symptoms) and b) because of it, wife won't let me( don't want her getting mad at me). And you know the saying...'happy wife, happy life's, lol. Thanks for bringing us along. See you in the next one.
It would probably be good to get out of the house so long as you don't get chilled. Not hard to get chilled once you stop moving to set up camp, though. Wife is right, but maybe when the next one comes!
Ive always loved the out doors. But after highschool i was just to busy with work. Then i started a family and just never had time. I was always somewhat depressed and stressed out. A year ago i came across your channel and your personality and kindness and just happiness made me want to get outside again. So thats what i did. I made time. Took the family with me and onces a month (roughly) we go camping. Just over the weekend nothing crazy and i have to say i feel really good. The quiet time, the peace, the nature is just relaxing. Its helped me in many ways plus my daughter loves it. So thank you. It turns out the simple things is what i needed to be happy. Your the man and im thankful you make these videos.
And here I am in California complaining that it was 45 degrees this morning. I really should be getting out to go camping. Thanks for taking us on your adventures Luke.
big big thank you for all your videos, since my disability im unable to enjoy the gr8 outdoors as much as i did, i kick back and watch your videos and it brings back so many memories, god bless you.
It’s really weird how the weather, over time, in these mountains have changed so much. I live just on the other side of the mountain into Tennessee and I remember as a kid we use to always get quite a few decent snows through out the winter, now I’m lucky to get a single decent snow. I love the snow, just being out in it, the surreal lack of noise, the calmness it brings… but sadly we never seam to get a whole lot anymore, but I still get to enjoy it vicariously through your videos, and it’s cool just seeing the difference in weather just an hour or 2 away. My last good snow we had was mid December 2018, got 14 inches of snow. Every other snow since has been 6” or less and very few and far between. Occasionally if a snow storm happens during a couple of my days off I will make the trip to the Tn/Nc border up in the mountains to enjoy it.
The snow is beautiful. I remember that squeak under my feet with every step. I live in Missouri now,not much of a snow state unfortunately. I miss the great storms in New England. I enjoyed the hike Luke. Thanks!
Luke thank you for bringing to me what I can’t do myself. We talked by email a few years back. I am disabled and there was really no way for me to enjoy the outdoors like you do. Your winter camping and hiking bring me great joy. I want you to know this. I love fall and winter and the beauty of nature around this time. Thank you for my trips I take with you.
Luke what an awesome testament Munchie has gifted you and I and everyone else who reads it with. Great job brother! And to you Munchie *Namaste*. Your own mind is a great playground. Isn't it? Tonight, it is my greatest hope for you that you may always find excitement and discovery whenever and wherever you need it. Keep staying strong, honest and informative because the Universe has got your back. Spread The Joy*****PEACE!
It's amazing how quickly it can change from Autumn leaves on the ground to a wintery wonderland. It's rather incredible. We don't really get snow here in Queensland, Australia so seeing this just puts a whole new level of wonder in me.
Hi Luke, have you ever thought about teaching wilderness survival classes? If there is anyone I would want to be with out in the field in an emergency it would be you. You would make a great teacher. Your positivity is infectious.
I love winter coming over anything. No one is around. It isn't hot. No bugs. I mean it is great. When I was in the Army, it was all about embracing the suck as it's called now.
Now that was Fun . But freak-in cold .!! That's how much I enjoyed this video. I felt that cold ! Thank you so much for your Hard work Luke . Very Appreciated 🌷
I actually live about 10 miles from the site of that nuclear bomb that was lost. I have heard this story many times from the people around here. Awesome video Luke! Love watching your adventures.
Hello I'm John, I'm glad you got out of your tailgate camping and gave use a hiking video. I'm 62 years old and I use to do this all the time but my health won't allow it. Keep showing foot camping instead of tailgate camping. Watch all your videos. Good job.
Hilleberg is an awesome tent mfr. They are out of my price range and honestly made for conditions beyond what I camp in. Everything I have seen and read backs up the claim that they are worth the price for a cold weather tent. Great Vid! Careful with that leg!
Come to think of it, when I was a kid I couldn't wait for a genuine blizzard so I could go out walking in it. And during every storm, my dad would go hungry until the power went out, just so he could heat up his Dinty Moore beef stew on the Coleman stove
Hi Luke , Marie from South Wales UK 🇬🇧 What a Winter Adventure, I Can't Believe you Went up that Mountain in all that Snow for Lunch . AWESOME as you Would Say . It was Breathtakingly Beautiful. Stay Safe and Warm 🌲🌲❄❄❄🌬🌬❤
Man you are brave camping next to parking lot , in the UK they are known for what can I say "night time activities". Your savior was the bad weather in your case you seem to love it, nice vlog Great to see your leg healed keep up the great work brother you inspire me.
You're not that far off the road! We started having snow here only after New Year's Eve! However, we've just had a two week cold spell and temperatures have gone all the way down to -30 degrees celsius, over the course of January. Anyhow, i love the style and color of your tent. Strength and honor, Luke. Thanks. Johnny, Montréal!
Here, in North-Western Russia, winter has definitely moved for something like 1-2 months later. Two years ago we had the coldest night of the year in the middle of March. This December was rather decent though - rarely above -10C, a lot of days with -20C and below, at least 50 cm of snow.
I am loving the music you chose for the hike to the top of the mountain! I am really enjoying the beauty of nature and how no matter what what ever is bothering you just going out on an adventure can clear out all the noise.
Loved everything about this video! Thank you for taking us out into the snow with you, rather than showing us through the tent door. 😊. Loved that you ran into fans. How cool is that?!
So I’m watching you approach the camera through virgin snow and think, wait… how did he get the camera set up without leaving footprints? Not only did you backtrack to get the shots, but did you also go off trail to keep the snow clear? Props to you!
@@tenhirankei Ha, your reply and listening to Luke “We made it together” while laying on my bed in Florida watching the video. Wondering what he will have up his sleeve for this upcoming weekend of 1/29/22. Maybe huge storm for him to play in.
I love watching your videos. You seem to not only enjoy the outdoors, but fully embrace the SUCK. I miss living out in the boonies. Thanks for another adventure
Thanks Luke for another wonderful Adventure i enjoy these i got caught off guard with covid so my camping plans had to change but knowing youre out there having fun making these videos kinda keeps me in the loop
Luke your videos are amazing. The music you put in with your hike was the perfect touch to help me get through rough times in my life. Thank you my friend, cheers.
I was so tempted to go out into the Pisgah to camp in that storm, but yea, seeing the weather change from about 6-8 inches up to about 15-20 really discouraged me as I only started getting into camping since August. Great video like always though!
I would advise working your way up to a trip such as this. I've been camping for over 40 years and I wouldn't do it. He has about 5k worth of gear alone on this trip.
@@josepheller8395 completely agree with you. While I'm more into the overlanding aspect with my vehicle fully set to comfortably sleep inside, I have untested winter gear, and no experience at winter camping. So, definitely didn't want to camp somewhere with no cell reception, and to have over a foot of snow dumped on me overnight as my first winter camping experience. Been 2 weeks since that storm hit, had another one hit last week, and another one this weekend. I will be calling in this one though, but in an area where it's only calling for a few inches, with no high winds, and where I have cell reception just in case.
@@josepheller8395 Wow.Nope except as a kid in a small country mòuntian, mountain, d being all day skating òn a pind or sledding on a Hugh hill I lived on with everyone else around and my house right there by both placeß,places, was good to go in the house.Though being outside well just was so much!A thing I did though, was learn, that if I went in to get my feet warm I would put them up against the heat vent got them tosty, tasty, my skates back on or boots, and they stayed nice and warm until I finally did come in for good.I suppose I watch this stuff,,because it is interesting,But I prefer a warm fireplace the heat no higher than 60 and a big blanket! 2
Another amazing adventure. Your videos are a remedy for my anxiety! Hoping to get out for some wild camps in the near future, thanks for the inspiration.
I have always been an inclement weather camper. The worse the weather, the more I want to go camp in it. That probably explains why I do a lot of solo camping... nobody else wants to go with me. I guess it's just the challenge of it or something that I love.
On second thought, this entire set of gear is top notch. In my opinion it's the very best set of gear you could have brought and I'm going to mirror this selection myself. Considering how cold it is I really hope you brought plenty of coffee 😊
Living in Michigan, I know how challenging this hike must have been or you, however, you made it look almost effortless. I envy you your physical strength and stamina. This has got to be my favorite video of your so far. Also, being a 57 year old female I will definitely be avoiding the funky folgers.😀
I used to live in Grand Rapids and worked at a little old hospital in Muskegan. Loved taking trips up north for blueberries, in season, the little booths with a sign: “$2 a box. Put money is the jar.” We would eat a box and save a box. The good folks of Michigan turn into road devils on the way home, after work, heh, heh…They just want to get home. Miss it and think of it often. Texas
Jeeezzz, Luke. How the heck you get oriented inside those snowed woods ??? I assure I would start walking in circles the very first 5 mins of that trail.... Satellite navigation, Spidy sense, perhaps ??? Just give us a hint, my friend... 🙂
I was going to ask the same thing. GPS is great when it works, but in bad enough conditions the signal gets spotty. A map and compass work great when you can see landmarks. No matter how, it's really impressive.
Thank you, Luke. Going through a very difficult time now for me, so having your wonderful outdoor winter adventure was soothing. I was considering the Una tent but after your review it's a deal breaker for me. Thank you! Do you ever bring a snow shovel? Also snowshoes? Really nice winter snow hike. Brought me peace today.
Just gorgeous countryside - the white pristine snow, the beautiful evergreen conifers, the ground and fields covered in clean white snow. Just beautiful. I was amazed how hard you had to work on this hike...and then to think you had to do it twice because you were filming. Thank you for the extraordinary effort. Just so awe inspiring. Much respect for all your hard work and efforts.
I kept expecting you to set up a tarp over your camping area so you could sit outside under the tarp, cook, relax, and enjoy the rain and/or snow. As much as you love a tarp, it really surprised me that you didn't. 😜 Sitting under a canopy, awning, or tarp while it's raining when camping is one of my favorite things to do.
“It’s gonna be cold,it’s gone be nasty, it’s exactly what I have been looking for” That is the most “embrace the suck” phrase I have ever heard… Love it 😅
I’ve got you figured out: cold, rain, snow, nature, forests, trees, tents, hiking, survival outings and associated gear are obviously things you enjoy, and I most definitely understand, but I think what you most enjoy are those “meals in a bag.” 😊
Hey so wanted you to know that your videos really inspired me to get outdoors and start camping. I was in a deep depression and headed to a really dark place. I am good now and doing great. Thank you so much for your videos.

What a Winter Adventure, I Can't Believe you Went up that Mountain in all that Snow for Lunch .
Dogging
@@keef1248 I'm trying to be polite.
This is one of the most beautiful videos you have made, beauty like this, it is great to be alive and enjoy what nature has to offer
@@archi-mendel take care of yourself and all your loved ones!
Appreciate that you always put the Celsius equivalent! Very nice touch!
Went in this same storm with a buddy on the south part of Pisgah near Shining Rock, most intense trip I've ever been on!
I am loving the music you chose for the hike to the top of the mountain! I am really enjoying the beauty of nature and how no matter what what ever is bothering you just going out on an adventure can clear out all the noise.
Great video Luke. Really appreciate your hard work making these adventures. Have a great day
Cheers
So lovely! I love snow!
So, you didn’t choose the Fjällräven windsack as your first option for this trip? 🤣
Hahahahah!
Well Luke, you faced the challenge of the elements and overcame. The forest was incredibly beautiful with the first snow. Trek on Luke… trek on!
Loved everything about this video! Thank you for taking us out into the snow with you, rather than showing us through the tent door. 😊. Loved that you ran into fans. How cool is that?!
You r amazing,great videos,love the outdoors and camping,but not in winter🥶
This is so Inspiring. Thank you, your videos have been a god send, while stuck in the hospital after CAR-T treatment for Lymphoma.
So I’m watching you approach the camera through virgin snow and think, wait… how did he get the camera set up without leaving footprints? Not only did you backtrack to get the shots, but did you also go off trail to keep the snow clear? Props to you!
You speak so gently and clearly that I can understand the situation and enjoy the time as if I'm with you. Thank you.
Nothing more settling than listening to rain on a tarp or in a “waterproof” tent.
Except for being inside a warm, dry, comfortable home maybe?
@@tenhirankei Ha, your reply and listening to Luke “We made it together” while laying on my bed in Florida watching the video. Wondering what he will have up his sleeve for this upcoming weekend of 1/29/22. Maybe huge storm for him to play in.
Except watching this from FL!
Can't agree more. Snug in a bag full belly empty bladder! Nothing better
Gotta test yourself mane yolo

Pretty snowy night. Thanks for bringing us a long to share your Adventure.
I agree. Nastier, the better.
On second thought, this entire set of gear is top notch. In my opinion it's the very best set of gear you could have brought and I'm going to mirror this selection myself. Considering how cold it is I really hope you brought plenty of coffee 😊
and snow shoes
😇😇🤙🤙🌷
First few seconds of intro I said. Yea. He's loving it! Peaceful. 🥰
Living in Michigan, I know how challenging this hike must have been or you, however, you made it look almost effortless. I envy you your physical strength and stamina. This has got to be my favorite video of your so far. Also, being a 57 year old female I will definitely be avoiding the funky folgers.😀
Yeah, MI loves it's snow. Hello from a fellow Michigander.
Getting outdoors always helps!
Lisa, after watching the video what makes the Unna a deal breaker? Looks to me like it performed flawlessly in heavy rain and snow.
All the best!
@@jakerancourt3496 I am going with the Suolo.
This channel has the best manners. :)
The animals know how to be quiet right before a major storm
These kind of conditions make the adventure exciting to watch
Hey Luke how are you? I have a question. How did you thaw out the poles to the tent?
I have the same tent, so I suspect he pushed them out (not pulling), maybe after warming the sleeves a bit.
The shot at 31:55 shows just how steep your climb was. Nice shot and adventure.
People: Why did you pick that spot Luke?
Luke: That is a crazy parking lot. I’ve seen nude women in that parking lot…
😂😂😂👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Just gorgeous countryside - the white pristine snow, the beautiful evergreen conifers, the ground and fields covered in clean white snow. Just beautiful. I was amazed how hard you had to work on this hike...and then to think you had to do it twice because you were filming. Thank you for the extraordinary effort. Just so awe inspiring. Much respect for all your hard work and efforts.
Cut the bag down bro!
yeah exactly not rocket science
I kept expecting you to set up a tarp over your camping area so you could sit outside under the tarp, cook, relax, and enjoy the rain and/or snow. As much as you love a tarp, it really surprised me that you didn't. 😜 Sitting under a canopy, awning, or tarp while it's raining when camping is one of my favorite things to do.
“It’s gonna be cold,it’s gone be nasty, it’s exactly what I have been looking for”
That is the most “embrace the suck” phrase I have ever heard…
Love it 😅
That’s a winter wonderland. Nice video.
Luke, you are the best!!!
BTW, I will never stop watching your videos. You're true blood!!! Ty
Whoa!!! It did snow!! And it's beautiful!!! Thank you for bringing us with you!!
I’ve got you figured out: cold, rain, snow, nature, forests, trees, tents, hiking, survival outings and associated gear are obviously things you enjoy, and I most definitely understand, but I think what you most enjoy are those “meals in a bag.” 😊
