Your story about your daughter is pretty moving for me. I'm only 18 but last year I left an abusive household, became homeless for a couple weeks, found and moved in with my dad, got therapy and am now planning to walk the perimeter of the UK in march. I've got a tent and everything. Before this year, I never pushed myself. I felt like I was sleepwalking through my life and had no personal autonomy. Now I know that I am a blank canvas and can do anything I put my mind to. The world needs more dads like mine and you. Kids need to learn to push themselves, walking consciously through life and making decisions for themselves. Thanks for that story of your daughter and I hope you enjoyed mine 🙂
at some level, you need to heal with out the persistence of the trauma that caused it. at another level, you will learn that monsters are made, they are not born. that will help you find the compassion to the those who hurt you. but you won't find that until you have found kindness for yourself first.
I've never seen a man who enjoyed being out there in the middle of the night somewhere in the snow and ice crusted world completely alone as much as you do mate. Good on ya!
@@chrisruthford4492 How about if you live somewhere with more strict gun laws? For example it's nearly impossible to get a carry permit in Finland even if you are one of the few who shoot as a hobby... unless you want to carry a rifle or a shotgun around if you hunt, even then it could be trouble if you carry it in some national forest. Luckily we don't have any big predator animals here besides bears and wolves which really aren't a problem. I wonder what I should do if I ever wanted to travel to US and hike in cougar territory for example...
@@TheLazyFinn I built a walking stick that was a sword also. Used to carry it in National Parks here in the US. Better than nothing. I'm with you brother. 10+ years of airborne infantry from the jungle to the desert to arctic "hiking and camping" my body these days can't handle it. Now at 62, if I were part of Luke's hike in this video, I would be operating the enclosed 8x8 tracked Argo with trailer or ahkio snow sled with the camp supplies a couple of miles behind him. Or on a separate route to link up when he got there.
Great video. The coyotes howling reminded me of my last trip to Fort William in the Scottish highlands. As soon as the sun went down we were surrounded by wild haggis . Scary and dangerous situation to be in during winter.
Hello Luke found your videos about 1 week ago and I am really enjoying them . I recently visited Beaufort County South Carolina Parris Island Where Marines have been trained for 100 years! Oorah! My little girl is now a United States Marine. I know your daughter is also in the military. Thank you for her service 🙏🏽God bless from California
Hey Luke. I'm living vicariously through your adventures so thanks for sharing them with us. A humble little tip for you and your followers if you want when heating water in cold weather... only fill your cup about a quarter of the water at first. That will come to a boil about 50+% faster than a full cup. Then, when it is really hot and you add the rest of the water, it will come to a boil a lot faster than if you had all cold water. :-)
My 22year old son is home with us this Christmas! He was deployed in the Middle East for over a year. My late husband and I raised him to know that if you want something then you need to work for it and not expect it to be handed to you. When he was 17 I had to sign paperwork to allow him to enlist. I tell you that was my most scared and most proud day! Thank your daughter for her service and God bless!
If you're enjoying this guy's videos, you'll love Erik Normark's videos even more for the incredible videography and almost zero talking.. You still learn so much about winter survival even though he barely speaks..
It's just mind-boggling seeing those thousands and thousands of ice crystals. I love watching them Sparkle from the camera light. It's like stars in a white sky...

It is 37 degrees and I ran back in the house. :) Beautiful music by the way. Thank you for what you do.
That's awesome, Luke that your daughter told you that, and rightfully your pride shows. This guy has a huge amount of hours camping and hiking in winter storms. He is hard core eating the rehydrated food reminds me of pot noodle. Great woodland Merry Christmas
Thanks Luke, amazing video! I loved very much the fact that you filmed a lot during the night. As a city man, the night in the woods is a total unknown dimension for me and, as an extension, for any other city person among your viewers. There are quite a few channels out there filming overnight camping, but it is very difficult to watch anyone dedicating time to film what happens during the night, which from a city person standpoint, is the most magical and mysterious section of camping in the woods. The sounds of animals, rain, snow, the wind, the stars or simply how your camp looks under the light of the fire during the night is loaded of unique sensations not so common in TH-cam. I hope this little lines can give you some ideas that, united to your abundant creativity, can add more viewers like me to your already nice channel. Thank you very much for your videos, they are fantastic!

@@lessharratt8719 Nature doesn't observe years, but the thought and video is great... Optisim is something I have always appreciated.. which is why I appreciate Luke too
Hope you're better soon. Best wishes from England.
Luke! Great advise to all those listening about hard work and setting goals. Great success is bred from failure! You learn a lot more from your failures than your successes! Luke, happy holidays to you and your family! Be safe and healthy during the holidays!
Again, Luke, neat, clean, just the right gear, quick up, quick down, excellent, PRO. Well done, man. Love it when you do that. Music was wonderful!!! Merry Christmas and happy New Year. Texas
No military experience here, a simple timber cruiser. The extra footwork for the path untrod footage is mind blowing!
Thank you for sharing your adventure! You are very brave to camp out there solo. Safe trails sir! More blessings to you and all you love.

My wife and I sent it two of our four children into the military during the scary years! I can relate to your pride in their declarations of gratitude! The military forces them to confront themselves a lot quicker than kids in the private sector.
The second I saw this I couldn’t click on it fast enough. Merry Christmas Luke!
Congrats on your daughter. I can tell you r super proud. Thanks 4 the present/vid!!!
Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones! Always glad to see your product reviews and overnight camping trips. Your videos are honest and honesty in product reviews is hard to come by nowadays. God Bless!
Thankyou Luke. My Christmas was not happy, for my own reasons.
Your video lightened my heart.
That different packs of wild dogs were having supper because that is the sound they after they kill anything to eat
On behalf of the rest of us: I accept your gift. With thanks and great rejoicings!
(added later: I don't recall seeing you with microspikes.. they're among my favorite pieces of kit for terrain like this!)
Merry Christmas 🎄 from England 🙏
Thanks for a beautiful Christmas gift Luke. I wish you and your family a merry Christmas.
My son is currently deployed to Iraq. I know how proud you are of your daughter and the love that fills a families heart during these times of sacrifice.
Merry Christmas Luke, Susie and family! And a happy new year.
