My husband has alzheimers. Our planned trip to London and the beautiful English countryside were put on hold , in fact, we may never get there. At 75 and 78 it just may be impossible. We do, however, travel with Julie and Luke almost daily. We often rewatch episodes , a pleasure for me and he doesn't remember watching the first time... Thank you for sharing your home and your lives. It makes these old Alabama history buffs happy!
I just love the banter between these two remarkable people. And I might add... I, too, would be flipping out given I lived in a grand manor, where such treasures lay around waiting to be found by ME.
Good thing you have many walls, Julie, because you will be framing and hanging these wonderful documents for years to come! You may have to install a framing team as you have an embroidery team. I'm sure you have a room you could dedicate to this purpose!
It is wonderful to see you and your Mother in Law able to work together so well. To bring life back to Mapperton. And getting everything in order. And doing the repairs and preservation.
I LOVE this. It reminds me of my childhood. I remember going through my grandmother's drawers and my mother's at my grandparents' house. I was a child but it was SO EXCITING. I was always careful and had so many questions. This takes me back to that. ❤
It would be heavenly to have the opportunity to see, read and touch so many objects, papers and historical items. I could gladly spend forever just reading, touching and worshipping the past at Mapperton!
What a great recap of the dresses, the robes, and the paintings--all in one video! I really enjoyed it. Those dresses and the textiles are swoon-worthy, so I hope the Royal School of Needlework will be able to fix/ preserve/ restore them all! I see the excitement in Caroline too, as she assists and turns over the care of all the family heirlooms to a person who clearly loves and respects her husband's family's history.
Agreed 💯%! She is a true gem & I love it when Luke’s Father and Mother make the occasional appearance. The Countess is an endless fountain of knowledge about Mapperton. Unearthing countless treasures & it’s really exciting that we get to tag along. Even if it’s not quite the same as being there, being on video, Julie’s enthusiasm in finding all these wonderful things is contagious. It’s like you’re on a scavenger hunt & every thing you find is even more beautiful than the previous item. I can’t wait to see what comes to light next. 🤗
Julie - Did you ever imagine the magic journey your life would turn out to be? Uncovering so many treasures must be the most delightful experience ! What joy! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Although this is a re-run, love to see again. Tip: when you next decide to go exploring among the cupboards and drawers, take a bar of soap to rub on to ease closing up!!!
So glad you are bringing these paintings to Mapperton so family and visitors can get to enjoy them. Loved seeing your sweet mother-in-law. She has put her heart and soul into the house and gardens there. Much love to you all ❤
It's just great. Invitation to the coronation, the gorgeous collection of those bugs and insects. But then I see a bowl with the well-known mark of the Masons. Everything is terrific.
I’ll forever be puzzled by the fact that they have been married for at least 20 years and therefore Julie has been part of the family for that long but looks like this is the first time she comes in contact with all this clothing, letters, history etc. if I had the privilege of being part of such a family I’d get lost in the house looking for treasures or reading everything I’d be allowed to touch all the time!
Oh yes I know they have a lovely family with 4 children. I hope my comment wasn’t misinterpreted. I too, by marriage, came into a new culture and lifestyle and like Julie I embraced it with all I’ve got. As I watch more videos I understand more how all came to be. 💕
I love this video. I would probably be just as excited as Julie is. Most little girls grow up dreaming about their prince coming to rescue them, where we race away to his castle, get to dress up in beautiful clothes, and have dance parties.
Please show a closer look at the bowl on top of the cabinet with the bugs and fossils. I love watching you two together. Julia gets so excited and Luke says, This is why you don't touch things with your greasy hands..." 😂
Wow, I am just overcome with thoughts, questions and emotions surrounding all this fabulous family history! Cannot wait to see and hear more, more, more! ❤❤❤
8:28 you always have to do it from the middle! I live with my family in an old wooden house (farm) built by my side of the family 200 years ago. Even drawers only 100 years old, you allways must! push in the middle to close
I can't believe that you have never explored all the old drawers. I would love to go through all the chests, bureaus. My mother grew up in southern Wisconsin and she taught school in Elmhurst. When she passed away in 2017, I recieved all her treasures. I love gowing through everything. I just wish she was still here to answer my many questions. 🙂🇨🇦
I just love the journey story with these dresses! what a fun find ! I love them all especially the 18th century gowns. the one you mentioned that's your favorite, I don't know why, probably because of the color theme but it makes me think Christmas vibes probably because of the reds and greens. I did see bits of blue but the red and green stands out to me a lot.
You may have already thought of this, but how about snapping a photograph of each dress BEFORE the acid-free paper wrap and then the box -- attach the photo to the outside of the box and you never have to wonder what is inside -- or open the box to check! 🙂
Cooking? Historical Recipes? Yes. I even think that putting together a historical overview of a Mapperton Christmas book (digital and/or in print) Recipies, Decorating and Festivities at Mapperton with commentary on the subject would be a neat fundraising project.
Julie speaks of framing documents. Of course your artisan knows about the advantages of using acid-free materials when touching photos and documents, and a certain kind of protective glass against potential sunlight.
@Luke & Julie You should have some sort of raffle event once a year.. for a couple to win a honeymoon weekend at your mansion.. raffle costs $500 to $1k set up gift baskets with stuff someone or a couple could use to win in the raffle give away.. just an idea for you to raise money for your property
You know what Julie, I'd bet you could bring Henchingbrook back to life with your channel exposure. Regardless of whether you do it or not, Henchingbrook needs a channel, yes? And wow, your father in law looks like Victor and Luke definitely favors his dad.
Hi to UK, I am a Canadian Financial Advisor. Julie , write a book about meeting Luke...the whole thing and get a great publisher! I am sure you have one and a Land Titles expert. Sometimes it is so hard not to throw out ideas. My own home came after a luxury living in condo because I now know what luxury living is...when you don't wake up to the next project. And to boot, this 1892 home was not my idea. Two summers ago, I woke up to my neighbor saying that if the masonry work around 16 windows and 4 doors was next to dropping soft bricks on the sills and entrances. So I made up my mind to do it myself. From May to the end of October I was up on a ladder next to the roof line...chipping out old masonry like wafers of dry stuff falling on my face with a narrow chisel and cake piping bags to pipe in the new wet masonry. I did get the job done and no one would notice the new stuff.... it was just so close to the original. I look at what you have ahead and I feel your pain. Every year for the past 8 years that I have lived here, has been a hard project to do. My city has offered to pay for the greater portion of two fireplaces to be restored. Ok... let's get some quotes. So I am sure you have looked a heritage foundations....trusts who would take an interest in restoring your property and heavens that I should even ask this one....is there a way to remove physical property from the title that has no value to the working portion of the estate? Would that be worthwhile to look at? I have a thousand questions. I would love to help but as a Canadian, my knowledge is limited to securities markets and financial planning as well as Estate planning. I feel your pain and own one myself just not as big. I did gut the house and what I have now is amazing and MY pain is that my children do not want it but will sell it off. I hate that my grandchildren whom I left it to will not use it. If you feel there is something I can offer in terms of a plan, then let me know. My info is above. Thoughts and prayers.....Diane
I am such a nebshit (Pittsburghese translation too curious?) Every one of those drawers and cupboards would have been examined within the first 3 months. I don't know how Julie was so patient!
I understand the touching of things, I honestly do but there has to be a fine line somewhere. I can’t imagine finding an old piece of a bug & being so concerned about a wing might fall off. I know that probably sounds absurd but it’s so many things that will never be used nor viewed ever again. Like walking on egg shells all the time.
Yes, please wear gloves linen gloves, preferably when you’re handling documents, letters, furniture, books, clothing helps, preserve the items by keeping the oil and dirt from your hands off of those things in a matter how often you wash your hands and makes no difference. You should donate that entire bug collection to the Museum of natural history or call around and see because a lot of times the bugs that are collected more than 100 years ago are no longer alive. They are extinct or there’s variations of them that are extinct. Great find
Gloves are not suggested by conservationists. They create a lack of feeling in the finger tips leading to rips and roughness. Clean, washed hands free of lotions is what you need for documents and clothing.
Julie; Your Mom in law is a Peach. Bring her on more. You have a sweetheart in her. I have the same shoes she wore in this video. I would have been silly finding these. Hubby is a boy. He dont get it. My husband bought me a wolf fur. Gorgeous!! Im getting a wool coat to put it on. They said never seal it up in plastic.
I believe if i found items from my family it would contain blankets, smoke pipe, peace pipe, axe, native regella, & a peace of fry bread all on one teepee. On the Mexican side, sombreros , guitar.

Our thoughts are with you both.
I WENT TO ENGLAND IN MY 20'S I THINK PEOPLE WAIT TOO LONG I WENT BY MYSELYTODAY I COULDN'T DO THAT IT'S A STRANGE WORLD TODAY
You guys are so entertaining together!
I just love the banter between these two remarkable people. And I might add... I, too, would be flipping out given I lived in a grand manor, where such treasures lay around waiting to be found by ME.
Julie's a True Blue American. Don't lose it. EVER!!
You two are absolutely hilarious how you react to different facts and finds🤣
Good thing you have many walls, Julie, because you will be framing and hanging these wonderful documents for years to come! You may have to install a framing team as you have an embroidery team. I'm sure you have a room you could dedicate to this purpose!
I love how Luke's mom is encouraging Julie to do what she, the next gen, wants to do, not what the previous gen wants. Such a wonderful way of being.
It is wonderful to see you and your Mother in Law able to work together so well. To bring life back to Mapperton. And getting everything in order. And doing the repairs and preservation.

Really enjoyed this compilation of historical dresses and paintings! 🥰
Yes yes I’m in love with Luke’s mom, she’s fabulous!

These two is why I keep coming back. The two of you makes my heart happy. Beautiful soul. Thank each of you for sharing. Blessings.
How fabulous to have had the foresight (and the space) to have kept the beautiful garments all these many, many years!!!
I'd love for you and the Countess to go through the house hearing her comments about all the pictures. Would be such fun!
Just what I needed today! A wonderful escape to the English countryside! ❤✌🏻

What a WONDERFUL episode this is. Absolutely loved every moment of it.
❤ THANK YOU ❤
I get so excited just to find something at an estate sale, so I am so excited for you finding all the treasures in your family home 💗
It is the excitement - it is infectious… 😊😊😊

Julie has great respect for this family. 20 years. No kids? What? My first came in year one.
@@msl3900 They have 4 children but did not always live in the house as it was his parents

The dresses at video minute 18:00 are spectacular! They are incredible, Julie. I would be excited , too.
Awe you and your husband are so cute together....
😊 thank you
What discoveries you have found I would be thinking what else is there to be found. What treasures. ❤❤❤
Julie and Luke nice video regarding Coronation and also the history.
Watching history unfold, thanks Julie. ❤
Omg 😱 I can’t even stand it ❤❤ these are extraordinary finds!!! I’m freaking out
Those dresses are absolutely beautiful! I love watching your videos.
Thank you so much!
Wow, I am just overcome with thoughts, questions and emotions surrounding all this fabulous family history! Cannot wait to see and hear more, more, more! ❤❤❤
19:00 I just love to see you two Ladies together. I can feel that you are like a daughter
Greatings Gina from Bavaria
Such beautiful old drawers, and cabinets always hard to close them but beautiful.
Julie your accent has gotten so much stronger since ur days on Ladies of London.
8:28 you always have to do it from the middle!
I live with my family in an old wooden house (farm) built by my side of the family 200 years ago. Even drawers only 100 years old, you allways must! push in the middle to close
I am just guessing, Julie, but I think everyone was waiting for you to try on all of the beautiful garments!
😂😂”Which was a bit misleading because it’s old teeth.”😂😂 I love this couple, SO much fun to watch🤪
You two looking through the drawers and trying to close them 😂 ahhhh thank you for the giggles 🙏🏼

51:47, yes please, do another video on the history of the portraits.
Thanks!
Thank you !
yes to pictures!!

Glad you enjoyed it
Judy was right.., it was
interesting to hear what the letter said regarding the dinner ware. Job well done Judy, I hope you feel better soon.
You are so lucky to &ave those items.
I love that the expression of the lady in the "ugly painting" is that she knows yall are talking trash about her. She will pray for you.
Yes a series on the pictures please?

I was screaming at you “ use the handles woman”
BEAUTIFUL I LOVE THIS PROGRAM
You know that even for an American you are a “bit” over the top! Lol. “How beautiful!” Oh my goodness stunning! Luv ya. 🎉
You two are a hoot!
You two are hilarious ❤
It’s fun arching all of this again

Couldn’t help to see a Hugh bowl on top of the old cabinet, it looks like the Masonic Lodge emblem ! My husband belongs , is a past master 🇨🇦🇨🇦
I hope you photographed each item before you put it away. Just so you know where things are. Doesn't have to be a great masterpiece of a photo.
You need to soap (bar) the drawer runners.
Love it love it love it ❤
Luke resembles the b9y in the Hogarth picture!
Maybe take a acid free tube and roll the tapestry piecs a😢round the tube? So it doesn't get creast!
I am such a nebshit (Pittsburghese translation too curious?) Every one of those drawers and cupboards would have been examined within the first 3 months. I don't know how Julie was so patient!
yay!
5:59 is that bowl on top related to Freemasonry??
Chills.
How often are the paintings cleaned?
"This is why we dont open things here..." 😂😢❤
Julie; you are funny.

Still waiting for the video about Hinchingbrook and the paintings from there, etc….
Soap is good for a stuck draw
Textiles should never be stored in plastic. Use cotton sheets or pillow cases.
When a Count of Sandwich remarried, does that mean the first and second wives have the same title, i.e., 5th, 6th, or 7th Countess?
What happened to the frames of those paintings? Did you have to leave them behind?
1843! hold my mug!!!! 🤣
Whenever you two are together, you both talk at the same time. Can't you just let one talk at a time.
I believe if i found items from my family it would contain blankets, smoke pipe, peace pipe, axe, native regella, & a peace of fry bread all on one teepee.
On the Mexican side, sombreros , guitar.
Letters asking for money, from the Father side.
Luke u are hilarious
Lmao
Will you please stop touching the drawers Julie😂
Whats the history of masonic bowl?
Weill do some research!
It looks like bridgerton
❤❤❤
