I would like to donate $20 US, but your page only allows pounds sterling. What to do? You can use it wherever its needed.. BTW: Have you named the Eagles? Swoop and Flutter? How is the Mapperton Annual Fiddlers Contest coming along? 😉
Do you have any pictures of Alice Montague, who became a Neville, this is up my Hastings line through Dorothy
The Dorothy I mentioned was born Dorothy Littleton
@@28105wsking 20 pounds is just under 25 USD and if you have a paypal account it will do the exchange for you. So if you don't mind giving a few dollars more, you should have no problem :)
I feel very much enlightened about why country estates are important to preserve! They have so much family history and historical significance to England! I appreciate all your hard work in this important endeavor. Best wishes to you! ❤
Yes, please! A series on the portraits featuring you and Momma Montagu would be wonderful, Julie!
Agree
Oh yes! I think so, too! The amount of knowledge in that dear head is just incredible, isn't it!? You are so lucky to have such a nice mother-in-law who supports you so well. Take good care of her. She is a National Treasure!
Agree! She’s quite the entertaining art critic!
❤
Your mother in law is a gem and so kind, I loved how she said it’s up to the next generation to choose where to hang things.
A nice lady, indeed. I loved when she showed the gardens around. She knows absolutly everything about the plants, their history.
It would be interesting to get a breakdown of the family portraits. Interesting comments about Cromwell. I also love the beautiful deer.
I love you all, but when your mother in law/father in law are on screen, I always find myself saying out loud, "I just love her/him"!
Yes to the picture video please.
9:33 Agree. She has such a sense of humour too.😊❤
She is very encouraging to Julie which in turn gives julie confidence to do things her way.
We absolutely NEED a picture tour with your MIL doing the narration!
🇨🇦 I would like to see the series on the pictures with your mother-in-law and you Julie!! It is lovely you will have family members together in the same room, they are not forgotten.
Love your mother in law! Her candor is much appreciated. ❤🎉
“Her dress is much better than her face.” Classic! Nice to see the Countess 😄. YES on a series about the newly arrived portraits👏.
Yes yes yes to the video on the Hinchingbrooke paintings with your MIL!!! 👏🏻👏🏻
Coming soon!
Your mother-in-law is a treasure Julie. She is funny with a great sense of humor. 😂
It was very helpful for me to learn that the First Earl of Sandwich, Edward Montegu, was born in 1625. I have been researching my family tree, and that fact helped me discover that the First Earl was my 2nd cousin 12 times removed. I am directly descended from the First Earl's great-grandfather, Edward Montegu (1485-1557). The First Earl of Sandwich was a contemporary of my immigrant ancestor, John Roades (1624-1701) who was the great-great grandson of Edward Montegu (1485-1557). I have been puzzling over exactly how our families are connected ever since I discovered the name Montegu on my family tree....
Absolutely… painting history is so interesting
Those eagles are GORGEOUS!!
That was fascinating about the Montagues and Charles 2nd. I love the little boys painting, I am happy he will be near his dad.
So glad that you are sharing all these paintings that have survived all these years! Love it!
Julie, you need a Baumgartner Restoration TH-cam collaboration on the painting of the first Earl’s mother. The face looks retouched. Baumgartner X-ray of the painting would be really interesting to see if the painting has been altered or repaired over 400 years.
Or even Bloomfield Art Restoration - he is Manchester based.
YES, please a series on the returned picture!
Julie, you and your MIL are so sweet together. Very genuine. Loved the episode!!
What a wonderful mother-in-law! She’s a treasure and how grateful you must feel to have her enjoying spending the day with you working on projects around your manor house.
You need to document all the information you can from your in-laws. Once they're gone, a treasure of historical information will be gone with them. There's so many questions i wish I could ask my late grandmother.
I LOVE what you're doing with the family paintings/groupings! It's also wonderful to see your mother-in-law, she's such a gem and so full of knowledge - you both make a great team!
So happy to see the eagles returning home again, too.
Also, the re-wilding project really pulls at my heart, and I'm so very thankful for everything you're all doing to help Nature reclaim those areas! It's inspiring, educational, necessary, heartwarming, and will prove to be beneficial to Mapperton, too!! Brings back many happy memories of my childhood spent exploring/enjoying meadows and creeks close to home, fossil hunting, climbing trees, watching butterflies, learning about rabbits, foxes, owls, bats, frogs, algae, ..... !! Thank you!!
What a lovely looking wee boy in that portrait. I’ve just been given perhaps the only photo of my great uncle who died at age seven about 1918. I almost feel as though I have been given a responsibility to make sure he is remembered.
Julie.....YES....we love the interaction and rapport you and the Countess of Sandwich have!!!!
Yes! A painting episode(s). I’m surprised you didn’t keep some of the fossil rocks. I think the children who visit would love to see them.
I'd love to watch you and your Mother in law go over the pictures ❤️
Yes Luke s parents are golden...all my best wishes for them and the family as a whole...the works you all do is so helpful to the rest of us...thank you
The 500 year old painting of the mother of the first Earl of Sandwich is such an important piece of history, plus a terrifically interesting conversation piece.
Because of her sideways glance, she's going to be looking into the corner, though.
Absolutely love having Momma Montagu in these videos ... thanks for starring in this one, Momma Montagu! :)
Yes, yes, yes, Your Mother-in- law is a JEWEL!! I’ll always tune in when she’s sharing her invaluable information!
I vote for a Picture Series with the Countess!
You both have done a wonderful job caring for and stewarding Mapperton. The Montagu family is beyond fortunate to have you both.
Oh yes! Please do more with the Countess! So fun!
I was excited to watch this and learn about the "500 Year Old LOST ROYAL Painting has returned to the Manor!" I didn't hear this mentioned in the video. Am I missing something? Thank you!
Would love to see a segment with you and your mother-in-law reviewing more paintings. She’s such fun when she starts dishing!
The size and slimming of the oak tree as it begins it's life is so cool! For years from now it will be referred to as "The Mighty Oak!" Isn't Nature wonderful!
Without a stake to support it that poor wee tree doesn't stand much of a chance!
looking forward to see the other paintings. take care
I loved my mother-in-law.
Wonderful talk on your family paintings. At times so funny. Thank you xx
Looking forward to more videos with your MIL. She is a delight.
The family resemblance in the Hogarth is just astonishing. It could very easily be a childhood portrait of Luke! Its very sweet! Yay Kids! And don't forget to have portraits made of yours when they hit 18! Painted or photographed? That is the question! Do you have a family portrait of all of you together? With dogs! With the original Mom, one eye looks heavenward, and the other is watching the kids! LOL! You know, you could have her eyes corrected before you hang it. We just had an 1860 hand repaired that was attacked by the TV set years ago, looks great!
I think Mapperton needs an oil portrait of Julie and Luke. Style: a little modernized, but can fit in with the other ancestors. "These are the ones who saved Mapperton" (future tour guide)
Hi Julie. And Luke's Mom.I Love 💕 you Both and all the family, and friends that work there for you guys. And I know you treat them like family to.Julie Please thank them all for this Grandma Raquel.❤. Please tell all your family Please that I Love 💕 all of them and you to.Huggs all around 🤗. Thank you Julie from my Bottom of my Heart.❤.
Definitely Julie! Your MIL the Countess is wonderful! She is knowledgeable and not afraid to tell it like it is. Ha! That poor woman's painting was horribly done lol. Bless her for having to spend hundreds of years portrayed like that. But agree she is an important piece of the history puzzle.
"Her dress is much better than her face" just made my day 😍🤗😂👍👍👍Luke has great parents!!!!!
The portrait of the 1st earl’s mother is VERY comparable to the famous portrait of Margaret Layton! There’s wearing the same clothes: an embroidered “waistcoat” jacket that was likely a holdover from the previous decade (styled here as tucked into the skirt; Margaret Layton’s jacket still exists, too! So you can see what it’s look like!), a petticoat skirt, a lace apron, a loose gown (the black robe), the lace cuffs and collar, and the lace headdress. I highly recommend taking a look at the Margaret Layton portrait and the extant waistcoat that she was painted in to better understand the fashion of that painting!
Yes please! Love the old portraits!🇨🇦❤️❤️💐👏🇨🇦
I am so glad you two think that portrait is creepy looking because it's the first thing I thought. It looks like someone could be behind the wall spying on someone through the eyes 😄
Would love a series with your mother-in-law about the pictures. She is so wonderful and knowledgeable and the interaction between you both is just wonderful and fun to experience.
In any denuded natural area, there is always a key species that is now missing. For example, in the plains of America, three key species are/were prairie dogs, beaver and bison. In Africa, one is the elephant. If you can determine one or two key species that are possible to replace, your rewilding project will cover much faster. Also, in many parts of the US they use bow hunting to cull deer and donate the meat to homeless shelters.
Since you have fossils you might add them to your gift shop. Also, you might be able to have the local children out for an education project digging fossils either for slightly more income or as a donation activity for taxes. Also will generate more local interest and foot traffic. Also true for learning activities about the rewilding project. Get the community involved.
That was so lovely. I would love to sit and paint watercolors there.
Your mother in law the countess is fabulous. Have loved her since the ladies of London
Lovely paintings more please thanks for sharing ❤
Yes a series of pictures would be great!! Will be great to see the eagles back home in the perch of the mapperton estate..😊
Yes to the painting series!
I would love to see you and MIL talk about all the antiques in the home and the story behind them. I think it would be fascinating.
Absolutely! It would be such a privilege to hear your MIL tell us about the paintings. I am here for that series! :)
I so enjoyed seeing Caroline again! Both of you brighten the room ❤! Yes, I'd love to see a video on the paintings and any important artwork and antiques!!!! Brilliant 🎉❤!
It's so exciting to have your Eagles home!!!! The restoration was beautiful!!
Luke and team, great job on planting the Oak tree and on putting fencing up to protect that particular portion of property!!! I hope all of you enjoy your week ahead!!!!!! Hugs!
Here in New York State (USA) deer can leap from a standing position over any fence that is under Fourteen Foot tall.
OMGosh...you MIL is so cute. I love seeing her.
Yes! We LOVE both your in-laws...more more more please! How fun they both are and rich rich history! AND honoured in their contributions in time, service, gifts, talent's, wisdom that today's generation does not even comprehend! Or wish to. Thank you so much for all your exhausting hard work...oh my goodness...gives me hope on my small 40 ever disasterous something a always breaking from a storm and in need of repair here in Texas....
Ur Mother in law is fascinating about art! Would love to have a video about all the art and the current Countess. You and your family are incredible. ❤ I think the painting of the 1st Earl's mother probably needs restoration.
Please do a series on the family portraits. Very good video today. 👍🏾
Definitely more with the mother in law please😊
I had to smile at the enclosure you have to keep deer out. It reminds me of my Grandpa keeping the deer out of his garden in Northern Minnesota(USA)with a high fence and putting scented soap all along the top. Grandpa had figured out that the deer didn't like the smell of the soap bars. Thank you for the great memory. Best of luck in keeping the deer out.
Really enjoy seeing you with your mother in law!! You are both delightful! Also enjoy seeing Luke with the eagles!! And rewilding with Ben!
Thank you so much!
Yes! More content with both of you! Love to see all those paintings you've retrieved from Hitchingbrook!
Always a pleasure to see the Countess!!! Such a wealth of knowledge, with a razor-sharp wit!
More pictures, much more mother in law! She's so lovely! ❤
Awww your mother-in-law is adorable!
Your mother in law has such a wonderful wry sense of humor when she speaks - DO have more videos with her! She, and you, have such fabulous information about Mapperton and its history. The weather station is super cool. It will be interesting to track the wind, rain etc going forward. I must say that to me Paulina actually looks afraid, maybe because she is looking sideways. I wonder what her life was like…
I am happy that you seem to have a good relationship with your in-laws, I was not as fortunate. They know the importance of the “carrying on” of your Family History and help you to become as knowledgeable as possible in many areas. The EAGLES! What an absolute thrill to see them repaired and understand Luke’s excitement in them. They have stood on the plinths in front of this home his entire life and now they will again take their place of honor to welcome all to Mapperton House! Seeing all you do to keep your home repaired and refreshed is very exciting to this older woman who revels in history!
Caroline is a wonderful loyal friend with a sensitive understanding, & and vast knowledge of everything, historically & factually at Mapperton.
Love to hear about the painting of the past family members. The eagles look magnificent. I adore your mother-in-law Julie. She is the sweetest. Great segment on Mapperton today. So much going on. No rest for the weary. Much love to you all. ❤
Yes, a series of vlogs about the paintings with your MIL, would be very welcome!
Would love more of such beautiful treasures
Your Mother-I n-Law is a fan favorite ❤
Always enjoy the rewilding episodes. Love citizen science. Why not cull your deer?
Yes! A video with the paintings !
I am amazed that your mother in law has such a great recall of dates and peoples names. KUDOS!
We LOVE Earl John and Countess Caroline. Absolutely do some series on the paintings, e.g. by century, or in [more or less] chronological order. Too many to really properly explore in one session. Bet you can do at least 3 or 4 videos on the people, the artists, historical background, etc. Maybe your father-in-law on the historical background and MIL on the paintings themselves?
I would say thank you to the deer, for living good life, harvest with respect...sell them as prepared smoked cuts and frozen sausage rolls. Venison is healthy & there are companies that ship food that needs to stay refridgerated to customer door. I would also sell online the hides as people use for rugs beside bed or over chairs. Watching a farm utube Veggie Boys that does vegetables and beef, their cows have a very good lifestyle free range. Shows in quality of product. Your deer if can get processed by a responsible farm etc...could be a very holistic healthy work for estate. 😇
Definitely do a video with your mother in law and the other historical paintings. So excited the eagles are back. Yippee 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I would love to see a series of the portraits would be wonderful. I also think a display of Luke's grandfathers mederological would be very interesting . It would be interesting to see a comparison of the currently and previous records.
Yes, a portrait series/episode please ❤
Luke, this is fascinating. Very advanced weather station!
Yes, please!
22:47 fantastic Masonic punch bowl
I noticed that bowl, too
The tour of paintings would serve as a lovely way to archive for future generations, also. Cheers!
I love the Paulina historical painting as it would invoke varied interesting conversations! All the paintings would be so intriguing to hear about. The rewilding program is just as fascinating to follow.
Julie, it is so entertaining watching your reserved British family very gingerly join in with your typical, outgoing American style. They are so knowledgeable about their heritage and are only learning through you how interesting it is to the rest of us who live far away from Mapperton. Please include the family whenever they choose to participate. We love them, too.
Yes, Please! I'd love to see a series on the pictures with the Countess! She's a delight!
Extra surprise was seeing the eagles repaired. Wonderful job
Please do Hinchingbrooke pictures in a series . Thank you from Tennessee.
Baumgardner restoration could get that painting sorted. Those eyes look like a previous bad repair or retouch.
You look very polished in your riding coat. Your neck piece only needs a gold stock pin. Seriously it looks nice. I wear my riding coats all the time
Would love a series on the portraits. I was thrilled when I recognized Charles II!
I have been waiting on the news of the eagles. 🦅 i am like you. So very excited. They look gorgeous. 34:47 what a great idea on the, I’ll call it, self walk about.
Yes, I would love to see a video with you and your MIL on the paintings.
Noted!
Wonderful news about the return of the Mapperton Eagles!
I’d love to see a series about the pictures at Mapperton
A series on the artwork - yes please.
