It's because of guys like you and prime i started to learn touch typing , 2 months in 25 wpm to 70wpm . After 100 wpm for sure I'm gonna buy a kinesis .
I'm working on a Corne right now. Its cool because it solves the same problem of having to stretch to reach further away keys by just not having further away keys. All the keys are one key away from the home row and it has only 42.
The key well style isn’t for everyone. I tried the Glove80 and my hands felt cramped and I couldn’t get used to it. I also needed a lot of code to get the home row mods working properly on the Glove80 web interface and that interface is quite user friendly. I’ve heard the Kenesis key mapping is not easy. Not sure you can claim that you get nothing out of promoting the Kenesis keyboard if they sent you a free one. Aren’t they about 400 dollars? Anyway, glad you are happy with it.
I love kinesis, but I actually went the other way recently and grabbed a zsa voyager. The smaller number of keys and intelligent configurator for layering has been great
I am so glad I have the wired version, but I did buy some longer C to C cables and right angle USB converters for the ports to reduce the space needed for the connector cable - the space on my tray is limited, and I don't want things pulling if it falls off or anything. The loss of the keyboard programming app with this wired version as my first programmable board would have really slowed my learning curve and cost me lost earnings. the body feels built for life, no question.
Thanls for the review. I was in fact looking for Moonlander reviews when I found this video. It's definitely a good watch for me. What is your view on split vs traditional keyboard in terms of enforcing good typing habits? Do you think using split keyboard forces there user to actually type "correctly'?
This looks amazing! I just purchased a Cloud Nine split which I really love due to it's Macro keys . If that doesn't fix my stress issues then I'll be diving into this one for sure!
Last week I’ve bought a Moonlander and your review was one of the primary sources for that decision and now I hate you 😂 But hey, after 3 days of use, I’m kinda happy with the Moonlander.
I'd advise whoever wants to do this to get a solid case separately for the dactyl manuform if you really need your keyboard to sound good when typing. I've found that 3D-printed cases tend to have quite a worse sound to them, so you might not like it.
Team Glove 80 because I was looking at the Kinesis, but I love low profile switches; can't get used to or enjoy MX style switches anymore since going LP
I love the Kinesis TKO, especially because of the 3 split space bar and because it's programmable with up to 9 profiles, each with a few layers. However yours sound better. What type of switches are in yours?
I got brown too. They got a keycap puller in the case so you could check if you like. And mine cae with one keycap removed, probably for checking at packaging time.
Did they send you the Professional version? If so I’m curious to hear your experience with the connectivity between the halves. Heard a lot of bad things about it being extremely flaky, particularly when switching between computers
@@MelkeyDev I see. Correct me if I’m wrong, but you can’t do tap-double tap-hold operations as with Oryx and the moonlander, right? At least with the wired version as you are tied to its proprietary software SmartSet app
My Glove 80 is inbound from New York right now. Edged out over the Kinesis for me, though never tried these split keyboards. Gonna need that Glove 80 comparison video for sure.
I've been using the Kinesis 360 Pro for about a year now, a little more. Honestly, the biggest gripe I have with it is: It is not easy to get good switches. Either you pay a 3rd party (US only, get lost the rest of the world) vendor to do it - or you DIY and void your warranty. And that there are no ways that I know of to get spare parts, at least not easily accessible. This in combination with the high price-point make it a much harder sell and that made me more than happy when I could buy one second hand saving a bit on the price. HOWEVER it's a phenomenal keyboard with all the bells and whistles I looked for in an ergo keyboard: ZMK fully programmable, ortholinear, thumb clusters, bluetooth, split, tilt, curved key well. 4/5 yet so close to being a 5/5
I want to try out different split keyboards in the future, but that's gonna be when I'll get a new job. I've tried a Piantor with low-profile switches, but I don't really like it that much, I kinda prefer typing on a regular mechanical keyboard. I think I just dislike the feel of typing on low-profile switches overall, so for my next split keyboard I'll get something with regular switches.
I am happy, because today we have a world of mechanical, ergonomic and accessible keyboards options, for all taste. I have a Corne keyboard with a tenting kit, an Ergotravel, Alice and reviung41, also if you want a concave keyboard like kinesis 360 but cheaper and full firmware programmable as well exists various Dactyl keyboards options with concave design.
After some years with my HHKB I wanted to go for the moon lander but instead went with a Piantor Pro split keyboard. And I love it. Split columnar keyboards are the thing, I cannot use a staggered keyboard anymore.
The Kinesis is one out of three keyboards I would like to try. The others would be the Dygma Defy and the Moonlander's sibling, the Voyager as a kind of traveling keyboard.
The real issue for me here is, I want to get kinesis over the glove80, because of the robust design, but they order a good price only in the US. For me in Poland, I need to pay like a 800$ to get one..
I really want to try concave keyboard but eu options are so bad. Both kinesis and glove80 are US based so you need to spend super premium to get those on top of an already expensive, boutique product. There is also Dactyl Manuform but it's DIY, not something I want to deal with. Not to mention those DIY keyboard's are anything but cheap and Dactyl is actually pretty expensive to print.
I have the Glove80 and the ZSA Voyager. I actually prefer the Voyager. I have choc pro red switches in the Glove80 and I am currently using choc sunset switches in my Voyager. I am looking forward to trying the ambient choc twighlight in the voyager whenever they show up in the mail.
There is just something about the layout and the position of the thumb keys on the Voyager that feels the best to my hands. Also, my thumbs don't hurt as much using the voyager. Don't get me wrong, I love the Glove80 and the key well truly is awesome. But sometimes, I feel some pain in my thumbs and Voyager surprisingly feels more comfortable to type on. I know my thumbs would hurt even worse on a Kinesis 360 since the thumb keys are even higher than the Glove80. I also prefer low profile choc switches so voyager and Glove80 make more sense for me. Moonlander and Kinesis use MX switches. I just got the Voyager about a month ago so maybe my opinion will change after using it for a while longer. But, so far it's been great and I really like the Oryx software. For Glove80, I just use nickcoutsos/keymap-editor.
did not you say like a year ago that Moonlander was a great keyboard? I cannot imagine a person switching from Moonlander to Kinesis and still typing fast immediately. I takes weeks if not months to get used to this kind of stuff. I do not like how it looks, I do not like the concavity, I do want to have a keyboard with an RGB backlight and hotswapable switches. Kinesis simply does not offer it. It is ugly.
My WPM did not take a hit at all.. I suggest you try it out first before making some claims. I can tell you, I personally prefer the Kinesis over the moonlander now :)
I got the glove80 few months ago; if you make a good video i'll get the kinesis *Edit - I can't buy it even if I want, amazon doesn't ship to me and their website only ships to US, maybe it's a sign...
@@MelkeyDev haha fair :) I got into split keyboards after your moonlander video but moved to glove80 recently. I guess kinesis and glove are quite similar tbh, the curve is the game changer.
Well, now you're gonna have to try the glove80 as well. There's really no getting around it.
I guess you are right haha
It's because of guys like you and prime i started to learn touch typing , 2 months in 25 wpm to 70wpm . After 100 wpm for sure I'm gonna buy a kinesis .

I have a Kinesis Advantage 360 myself and LOVE IT. Well worth the money.

Just bought a Glove 80. I really hope it will solve my RSI and I can go back to code all day 🙏

Tip for broken Bros: you can build a dactyl manuform for less than 60$, using amoeba PCB, pi-2040 and 3d printed case.
I eventually want to build my own Dactyl

what a beautiful looking muscular gigachad programmer. a rare one in this field
Does you Kinesis have Gateron Brown, Kailh Clicky White or Quiet Pink switches?
Wish I could switch from moonlander (broken thumb module) to kinesis now, but taxes to import it to brazil are way to high
