As a 34 year old man who has been on hiatus(returned with SwSh) since like Stadium days I must say this is the most fun I've had playing a Pokemon game.
I think it's ugs for real, they could've done more with the visuals as in just put in some work, why is it hard for them to just put in some work or get monolith soft to do the environment n get some voice acting..but it looks super fun tho, sw&sh was an utter disappointment returning from leaf green

But I have to say, its a really good game, I am having fun playing Arceus, but not the best pokemon game tho.
I just beat the first boss. I am liking the game a lot so far. I dreamed of a Pokémon game like this when I was a kid, it’s not quite to my dream level but it is heading in the right direction.

20hr in my copy, it a big refresher to the series as a whole. The gameplay is a huge overall and a major change some Die hard pokemon fans. Im die hard myself, but I love this game. Haven't put it down.

As someone who has been with the Pokémon series from the start and has played them all. This feels like a breath of fresh air for the series. I’ve put 85 hours into it so far and it’s so relaxing just choosing a few goals for the Pokédex and clearing it out or doing some shiny hunting when you get bored
I love how they actually decide to do something completely different this year. This game actually looks very interesting to play compared to all the past Pokémon games which never really caught my attention.

Colloseum is a neat challenging game
Pokemon has honestly been just prettying up (relatively speaking, the graphics aren't exactly breathtaking) the same decades-old formula. Whether this had any flaws to touch up or not, it's at least something different after all this time.

One thing I’m finding is Pokémon are doing more damage to higher level mons. So the game really appreciates strategic play. You can beat those alpha’s 20-30lvls above your range (if) you play it right.
Congratulations on being such a PokeMaster but, seriously, f*** that. It's not necessary to advance the game and the main alphas respawn all the time so you can keep that shiz to yourself.

my favorite thing to do in this game is the stealth mechanics...so much fun trying out if I can catch evolved and alphas without battling...its like taking out an enemy in metal gear..😁
Completely agree about the new playstyle "blueprint". This is honestly the game that I think many of us have been waiting for. It's finally a full 3d open world pokemon game that is centered on actually collecting them. Just picked it up but I'm already hooked. Really hoping they stick with this game style going forward.
I'm 30 going on 31. I have played every main series game from the start of the franchise. This is my favorite experience in a Pokémon title by favorite. Unlike many I liked Sun & Moon as well as Sword and Shield both were very close predecessors of Legends: Arceus but neither combined all of the elements within one game. Finally you can be immersed in the Pokémon world with the Pokémon functioning as actual creatures with unique traits, interactions and reactions. The Pokémon have a higher AI and force you to either outsmart them or grind to overpower them in battle. No more running in tall grass hoping you get attacked by a Pokémon with a rare spawn for hours and hours, instead you run through the area and it will be there; if not then you can change the day/time in-game and reset your chances. That's brilliant! This game also makes Pokémon kind of scary in the begnning. Lol
For me this is a big step forward.
Hope they will stay with this style and the new generation will take inspiration from this.

I’ll be honest, I was really down on this game for the first two to three hours. After that however, it really gets going, you just have to push through a few hours of tutorial handholding and kind of bland story monologues. At the point I’m at now I really think this is one of the best Pokémon games since ruby/sapphire maybe even Gold/silver.
All the dialogue and constant bidoofs, starlys and eating noises with a black screen was setting me up for dissapointnent once again. And it continued through the geodude area. But once when I left the second camp I fell in love with the game. I was able to shiny hunt an abra as soon as I wanted to and truly got to explore. Always wanted this freedom in a Pokémon game
That makes me feel a little reassures. Because I was kinda bored an hour in. Got bored of all the og games because of the same formula so I'm hoping I like this more.

I was almost RGT’s current age when the first GB Pokémon game came out. I think it’s very, very good and modernised to a huge degree. Art design is good and graphics do their job, not the best but fit the style well.
So happy to see all these people who enjoy the game as much as I do. I’ve seen an insane amount of hate from this game before launch, this is one of my childhood dreams in a game.
I was so so hesitant to buy the game, as a huge Pokémon fan too. I haven’t liked any of the recent games after XY. I folded and bought this one despite the hate I’ve heard on the game and I LOVE IT

How many times have I heard "This is finally the pokemon game I've always wanted" in regard to this game? Hundreds already and I'm here to tell you that that sentiment isn't true. Would this game be more appealing to you if it was of the same caliber as Red Dead Redmption 2? Of course it would even if you like this game already. Better is better is better right? And Game Freak has the resources to do exactly that and they cut corners to widen their profit margin.

I’m not a Pokémon fan, but this actually looks like a game that I would want to pick up. I like the BOTW look of it.
Then just play horizon zero dawn or even the Witcher 3. Way better alternatives to the already amazing botw.
Same not a Pokémon fan and felt that this game took some inspiration from BOTW and not only in regard to graphics as well. Seems more interesting to me than other Pokémon.

You gotta complete quests to progress the story and defeat the boss pokemon of the area and they turn on you and blame you for something you didn’t do and you have to go on the run to clear your name or is that just me even the intro to the game when arceus greets you felt a lot like mystery dungeon

I just hope that GameFreak hires more people who have experience with designing environments and developing better graphics for future iterations of the franchise.
Why don't GameFreak just learn themselves? I mean, they DO have Nintendo and MonolithSoft at their side. They can give GameFreak some pointers.

Why would we want hyper realistic graphics in a Pokémon game anyway? I feel like Pokémon, as a concept, lends itself to more whimsical art styles as opposed to super real looking styles.
Could the graphics in Arceus be better? Yes. But it's still a good start for modern Pokémon. And that's not just me being a GameFreak apologist, I genuinely haven't played a Pokémon game since before Sun and Moon. came out.

As a "lapsed Pokemon player" myself, I purchased the game based on the trailer. I really like the characters are older and not 10 year-old kids. I would love to see The Pokemon Company stay with older characters in the game.

@@nickgennady the idea that kids get their first pokemon and leave home at 10 is mostly the anime's invention. not sure if games at any point actually reference that and the player going on his journey is usually portrayed as circumstantial. pokemon game protagonists also had varying ages for a while. first 4 gens not so much, but gen 5 & 6 in particular the protagonists are meant to be around 15-16.
Nah im definitely good on that. We dont need every game in existence with human characters to play as early 20s. This is a kids game and it appeals to the kid inside all of us especially the hardcore players which is symbolic in the player avatar. Go back to playing one of the million edgy M games. Leave the one fuckin franchise with cool kid protags alone.

The biggest question is when will Pokemon Brillant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl have the fourth update patch so we can finally used the Wonder Trade and Global Trade Station (GTS). I know there's Link Trade but Wonder Trade is the most important part of the games and makes it a lot easier, I don't know why they're not added to the games before released back in November but I'm guess that with Pokemon Legend Arceus release that they wanted wait a bit longer before it's finally updated but I 'm hoping the waiting is worth it 🤞. As for Pokemon Legends: Arceus I will planning to buy the game in the future after watching some TH-cam videos to get some ideas to what to expect in the game
Fully agree with your opinion. Especially that it should be a base for future games. Id be fine with traditional games and these types of games as well in case they decide not to incorporate these elements into the traditional ones.
100% RGT 85, change is good and when we get content with the same nothing changes, the formula becomes predictive, outdated and mundane. Seeing this change in gameplay and experiencing it , is quite amazing. As you said I hope this is the new standard, then they push it further with more innovation.
Look forward to the future of this franchise and where they take it next.
I have fun with the crafting and boss fights and the red eyes Pokemon to hopefully they keep some of the game stuff mainly the crafting if they don't keep the boss fights because the crafting keeps me busy
I've been loving the game so far... hopefully this is a sign of things to come from Game Freak and The Pokemon Company.

When has GameFreak ever improved on a new game mechanic that was fun? Everything they do right in this game will be gone in the next.
Great video review! This Pokémon Arceus is wonderful and delightful. I also enjoy throwing the Pokémon balls and I love the environment. I was looking for a more relaxing pretty game for when I’m tired and just want to relax in a beautiful environment. Jon from Spawn Wave was talking about the Monster Hunter Rise and Zelda similarities which is true and I love it. Sure the graphics could be better but I truly miss voice acting. You brought up the story line being more mature and rather deep which I have been enjoying quite a bit. Normally I skip through the story to get to the gameplay but this story makes the gameplay deeper and more interesting. Don’t laugh but I’m 63 and I’ve never played the other Pokémon games. I ordered the Hori Arceus Split Pad Pro for my switch which will be much better than the joy cons.

If they had polished up a bit more in the graphics it be a 10 /10 in my opinion however I'll give it an 8.5/10 very solid but needs a little more polishing up.

The world is too empty for me. It needs more towns and dungeons, dynamic events for sidequests and pokemons should move in herds and behave more like animals in general. It just needs more to be like the scenes we know from the anime. I hope future titles, using the new formula will finally give us what we always hoped for. Voice instead of text would also be refreshing and more immersive.
This. I this the reason I wont get jt is because the overall feel is desolate. Its empty and lifeless because the Pokémon ai are not interacting with each other or environment. I would have liked to see more forests and maybe little villages along the way. I see why people like the style of play of it feels like a lot of time to commit to something that feels lonely and empty.
It's my favorite pokemon game so far I also love how it expanded the lore
MANNNN!! You, arlo and I seem to be on the same wave length! After playing pokemon for more than 2 decades... the same recipe gets boring and loses its charm. And let's be honest here, the games were like that because of hardware limitations, so now, they have to progress accordingly and make the game a newer and fresh experience for all types of players.

The boss fights were boring. The pokedex concept was a grind and a half for nothing, the combat balance relied way to heavily on weaknesses that made leveling absolutely worthless. Training bags to level stats... what's the point of leveling if a level 12 can 1 shot a level 70+?

The only issue I've found that has been distracting from the game are visual bugs. I've had a stantler walking around on it's hind legs, a weird line around a psyduck while he was standing in front of a river, and wild pokemon kind of lagging a few feet over from time to time. Outside of that, I love the new formula. Having lots of fun. Been playing since Red/Blue first came out.
4:25 id argue that different traversal methods are what make the regions feel small. Though note I havnt played the game yet... But from some reviews ive surmised that after you get Statler, its really easy to zoom across the map. So personally when I play im going to headcanon that my ride pokemon can get tired, and try to use them sparingly to make it more immersive, and feel the distances im presented with.

it's honestly a breath of fresh air to have a more open Pokemon game that doesn't follow the series usual formula, i want more of this not just in Pokemon but in gaming in general (a series stepping away from using a similar formula with each release) :)

It's something we wanted ever since we played the first games and watched the anime.
It has flaws like other people say for example.
A pack of rapidash running around the lands.
Ursaring looking for honey.
Growlithe sniffing for hidden items.
Squirtles shooting water at wildfires.
Better AI and giving them more life.
As in graphics.....they have the money so another year of polishing would've been better.
As for the flying gyarados it should've been harder to get and make it more desirable to get. See from a distance a cool pokemon and having a harder time to get it is more rewarding.

For those who think that the main series games are going to start resembling this style…remember. This is a side-series game. As cool as it would be to see the main series games in this direction, the current red & blue formula works and makes money. In my personal opinion, I see game freak making 3 types of games going forward…main series games in the style of Red & Blue, Let’s GO games ( I predict Johto comes out this year), and Pokémon Legends games in the style of Arceus, based on regional lore.

I got a question: For someone like me that have played only 4 Pokémon games (Pokémon Statium 1 & 2, Pokémon snap for nintendo 64 and Pokémon colosseum) with pokemo game should I get first on my nintendo switch?

I loved the animated series when I was a kid (now I have kids).. This will be my first mainline pokemon game.. which Pokemon should I choose? I really like Squirtel, should I pick water type?
Arceus is the best pokemon game I have played in many many years. The pokemon gameplay has been thrown on its head… and that is a good thing. The way this game plays is just amazing. Its the gameplay shake up that the pokemon series so desperately needed. Sure, it has a few issues, but it is sooooo darn fun!! I love this game.

I have to agree. So far, in my opinion, I think it’s the best in the franchise. It is a very unique experience. I still love the original formula, but I find this one being some special and new. And sometimes we need stuff like this.

I have always loved the traditional Pokémon games, but I have loved pokemon arceus so far. It feels refreshing and new, I love the idea of actually having to work for to fill out the Pokédex, unlike the original games. I hope they continue in this direction because it’s been the most fun I’ve had in a while!

RGT! I appreciate your opinions here - so far the best and most honest review I've heard so far about this game. I too am a fan since the red/blue days. It's not all rainbows and butterflies, and it definitely seems like Nintendo, TPC, gamefreak, or whoever need some major help in the visuals department, but the gameplay is a step in the right direction. Going to go pick it up today.
After watching spawn wave and your video today I decided to purchase the game. I was fortunate enough to grab it for £35 (whatever that is in $$). I’ve never been into or even played a Pokémon game before, but in my case, willing to try something new. Great video, hopefully your on tomorrows spawncast (uk time).
Been loving the game so far. Yeah the graphic are a little sub par, but who cares. It has a great "open world" feel to it. Love the exploration. Love tracking down the new pokemon from sounds in the distance. Take time and enjoy the gameplay

I was on board until I saw one of those NPC’s do the recycled Hau/Hop hand animation. That’s a dealbreaker right there.

An online mode at least for battles is really necessary. I would score it 100/100 if you could play with your friend in the same zone.
I'm kinda upset that I can't battle other players. I absolutely love the battle mechanics this time around (aside from sleep and paralysis being the same thing) and wish I could battle other people

I never really was obsessed with Pokemon and it was always so hard for me to play long enough. However, this one looks really tempting. But it is tough to make an opinion if I buy this game or not based on the complete opposite of opinions. That's why I will definitely try this for myself but not right now. Will wait for a small sale since with my currency issues, it is a bit way out of budget. Excellent video!
If you have currency issues do yourself a favor and dont waste money on this game, there is way better games for a lower price

My thoughts on it are pretty straightforward - if you can look past the graphical shortcomings and the rather bland open world, there’s a great game waiting to be played. But for a lot of people, those things are dealbreakers.
I still want to get this sometime and this review has made me even more excited its everything i could have hoped for i too fell out of love Pokémon after the 3rd generation
@RGT 85 wow you are way younger than I thought you was. You said that you was into Pokémon 23 years ago. 23 years ago I was 31, damn I’m old. Lol but I still love my video games!! Personally my first system was the Atari 2600 that I bought from mowing yards all Sumer in 1983. I still have that system. I don’t play it but I just wanted to save it. I now have the Wii U that I play. Btw great video.
I like this new formula but I would change a few things in the next game, I want something that balances between this and the comfort zone we know and love. I like the idea of the research system but I feel it’s a little bit complicated I do like the idea of capturing and battles now

I agree with you %100 the game is very open and the game overall is very fun an theirs allot you can do, this is by far the best pokemon game I've played in a long time
I wish when you got into a Pokémon battle you switched to the perspective of the Pokémon being able to run around in a small arena with your opponent still using turn by turn attack but physically having to dodge them instead of letting the player “free roam” during the battle.
That would be cool

This game reminds of turning a paper in for draft review. It's a great start, but not quite there. It feels really empty. Unless you shiny hunt it also feels repetitive. I think it's getting a lot of slack because the name Pokémon is attached too it. I'm glad folks are enjoying it- that's what matters. It's how a game makes you feel individually.
I’ve been feeling like this, when can I expect things to pick up roughly? What mission or after the first boss fight and etc?
Well, honestly it’s what most people have wanted mechanic wise open world for a LONG time
They’ve definitely been slowly progressing this way for a while, while publishing games, im actually excited for if we get a mainline game, using this system of gameplay

Exactly, they are impressed because gf finally started making the wheel when cars have already been around, they should be making hovercrafts with their kind of money, but because they deprived everyone of quality (on purpose) and now they BARELY step out their comfort zone and suddenly this is the best? Haha wtf?
If this wasn't Pokemon, it'd be as good as a mobile game, at best.
I think this game is great thing. It opened the door to make Pokémon a fantastic franchise again. Pokémon has gotten stale over the years, sword and shield was pretty decent but it’s core was still the basic Gameboy rpg. Pokémon has been needing to modernize for along time. The handheld Nintendo consoles was always the blame. Now that Nintendo has a home and handheld console in one this game is what the franchise needed.

Well, the main goal of Arceus is to make the first pokedex ever. So there is bound to be a bit grinding involve, considered you have to research these pokemon and do a lot of testing. The whole point about Pokemon is about finding and catching pokemon anyway.
30 yr old here. Been playing Pokémon since Pokémon Red on my GameBoy Color. I have been away from the series for a long time now. I purchased a Nintendo Switch Lite and a copy of Arceus half way through watching this video lol. Got me excited for the series again. Also just having a Nintendo console again feels awesome.
This game is great. The graphics really aren’t that bad, and for the series first time going this direction I think it’s outstanding.

I've been a pokemon fan since I was 8. I started with pokemon emerald dropped out after black and white and came back to pokemon with Alpha Sapphire. I really enjoy the games, but as fun and entertaining they started being a little repetitive. With Pokémon Arceus it has me glued to the game. I spent 9 hours the day I got it and I got it by the end of the afternoon. In all honesty I hope they do more pokemon in this style. I sometimes do the main story line, other times I just go exploring and catching pokemon, other times I do the side quests. It is addictive and very enjoyable. I do hope they improve a little on graphics (when you catch a pokemon in the ocean the poke all is just pixels) but even so I dare say it's the best game yet. Very refreshing
I'm with you @RGT85. This game is refreshing and should be the blueprint. This is one of the best Pokémon games. I enjoyed Pokémon blue and red, but they overstayed their welcome.
From what I've seen so far it seems this game is literally just a blueprint lol. It will be interesting to see once they actually put the game in it.

Same as you RGT, I've been playing Pokémon longer than lots of these younger folks coming into this. This in my opinion is the absolute best Pokémon game to have come out. I'm completely enjoying it.

@@michaelmyersplays4992 I'm making a comparison among the whole spectrum of Pokémon games to have come out and agreeing with RGTs opinion about this being the one that people from the beginnings of the franchise and how they lead one to imagine how a future modern direction could go. This is the future style many of us have been waiting for. I don't care about manga. At all. That's good for you there Hoss. You know... You could always pull it out if it hurts too much when you sit down. You don't need to have it all up in there constantly. But... If that's what you like... I guess it's cool being that we're in 2022.

I very much agree to this... maybe now that they're working with ILCA, maybe they can have ilca work on the graphical side of things or maybe hire new people who can make them enhance their graphics and graphics performance.

Totally agree with your point on "laying down the groundwork". The game is great, from my experience probably the best from all that ive played. And yes there are still quite a number of things that can be improved upon. What's key here is that it is a new blue print that gamefreak can use to refresh and bring the franchise to a new era. Hoping for the best with how they will move forward after arceus.
All that matters to me with a game is gameplay and story with this a great direction for pokemon to continue. I'm enjoying it so far

Nah, he basically said it is a really good game and the change that the series needed. It's great blueprint to build on from this point on, meaning that any new Pokemon game should follow this new structure instead of going back to its old ways.
@@Geekoo85 being a good blue print doesn’t mean it’s a good game, this game looks empty, void of meaningful content, and it can still be a good blueprint, something to work off of, but not do again because it didn’t work
@@cameronjohnson5671 Good point, but I just answered your question. He said it's a good game and he has a lot of fun with it, despite a few shortcomings. I can't speak for him since I haven't played it yet.
Edit: Besides, if you rewind the vid or watch it again. He says it twice: "This is the best Pokemon game since Blue and Red".

I mean there are many great games out there, but there are also so many things I dislike in these great games. They should remake Generation 5 in the style of Link's Awakening. That'd be sick.
Pokemon Pitch Black and Bright White works if they just don't straight up do Pokemon Black & White 3 lol. The Unova Legends game can focus on the Original Dragon's story before it split into Zekrom and Reshiram.

The truth is, the game is freaking awesome!
The game definitely has some problems like the constant cutscenes and talking at the beginning, but I can not fully explain how much better the whole Pokémon experience is compared to previous games! It takes Pokémon Sword and Shields ability to see Pokémon in the wild without wanting grass to the next lvl allowing you to enter and exit combat fluidly. It’s so much fun to surprise a Pokémon with your own Pokémon to get a head start in battle or physically running away mid battle. It’s the most fun I’ve had in Pokémon! Needs some work and polishing but the core gameplay is so much better!
I've played a little over 20 hours so far. And I'm just getting to Kleavor boss fight. Been so distracted with catching the mons
It looks interesting. I do what under why they didn’t include things like gym battles though. Can you find other players and battle them?
I was skeptical to pre-order this, as I was disappointed with Sword/Shield. I went to get one once I watched this video, which answers a lot of my fears and disappointment with the previous series. Great coverage for a lot of players who didn't play since Pokemon Red/Blue (and a bit of Pokemon Go).
I feel that the combat system in the Pokémon series is pretty outdated in my opinion. I would love new innovations such as switch and controlling your Pokémon or solving puzzles with it, new traversals, and maybe even environmental damage that boost the Pokémons type ability.
It's be nice if this had some kind of multiplayer or stadium or ranked system to fight other players. I always looked forward to PvP being the true end game of any Pokemon game once you "caught em all". As it stands this seems to be a single player experience with friend trading

I want this game with gyms that are player held so you can group together with your faction or clan of choice and take and hold gyms that would be so cool
