I stopped buying mainline games just because they got so predictable etc. Was almost hoping for a bad review of this one so I won't have to take a risk in being disappointed again but after this I just might have to get it still.
Fair enough personally for the most part I've liked all the newer games only one I wasn't crazy about was the Let's Go games. Other than that I think the series has been taking small steps toward something new sense Black & White.
One of the weird things that stands out for me with this is how streamlined the gameplay is, and this goes for all jrpgs. You spend so much time mashing the A button to get through pointless boxes of text that you've heard a million times before. "You caught a caterpie" A button "Caterpies details were added to your pokedex" Abutton...mash a button as slow pokedex animation happens "Would you like to name your caterpie" Accidentally hit A button becasue you were mashing it, now have to exit clunky keyboard UI. "Are you sure" FUCKING YES I'M SURE! In this, the fact that the pokeballs are fire and forget. Even to collect resources, seems like such a small, but GREAT QOL improvement for the flow of the game.
The most exciting part about this game is that if it sells well, which it looks it is, then a lot of the elements and mechanics in this game are going to be staples for the more “traditional” games going forward. Pokémon is finally taking risks and evolving.
You say that, but they’ve gotten rid of so many beloved, lesser features before for no good reason. Following Pokémon from HGSS, megaS from gen 6, meaningful post games like battle frontiers, etc. As much as I’d love for them to expand on this game, expect this to be a one and done game from Gamefreak, probably never happening again.
@@ChewyLa I agree a lot of things are missing for sure. Almost consider this like a trial run. Going forward I’ll believe they’ll take the best elements from all the old games, but this game will be the foundation. They’ve also that this is considered a mainline going forward title and not just some random spin-off, It’s here to stay.
@@urm8matt156 some people thought it would bomb and not sell. Games alot of fun and will probably be a top 5 selling Switch game when all is said and done
I just played 9 hours or so, and I'm really enjoying this game. It still feels like a Pokemon game, but with enough new strategy and details to make it fresh. I really hope they continue in this vein for other games as well.
The World looks so empty in the reviews and trailers. Ruin’s, deserted buildings, burned-down houses, towers. Is this actually in the game or is the Region just a Barren landscape with only trees and pokemon? I ask this because I love the exploration aspect of Open-world games. Thanks for the reply!
Dunno when, but whenever it’s time for Pokemon Legends: Zygarde, we need Mega Evolution back. I also want to witness that war. I suppose that would put that before the events of this, and in another timeline.
Didnt the ultimate weapon used in the war split the timeline? And I guess that also created megastones. So up until the firing of the weapon it wound be one single timeline and no mega evolution. I suppose the post game could be set after the war. Unless I'm just mistemembering why the timeline split
Honestly, I'm more than happy that they've ditched any multiplayer components if it would've come at the cost of watering down the game's single player mechanics. Let this be a solely single player game that they can double down on.
I second this thought. If they wanna add multiplayer as DLC or for a sequel, let's hopefully they do it around what they've set up for how the game operates. Instead of typical regular 1v1 battles, make it a PvEvP type challenge, relying on teams and tackling challenges to accumulate points, or something.
Yeah if they wanted to do like a multiplayer safari zone kind of thing where you can hang out with your friends and catch stuff together that would be cool to add but definitely not necessary glad they focused on single player
@@ejakaegypt it's still a spin off. All the mainline games have two editions, get marketed heavily and follow a set of rules. This is more of an experiment. No way they will release the mainline game just 3 months after they released a pokemon remake.
It’s a good day for Pokémon fans when Nintendo Life says they had a good time with a new Pokémon title. You guys are more critical than most on Pokémon (which is a good thing), so to see such a positive review from this channel has me hyped.
@@simpletips2514 I hope this sells better than most other Pokemon Switch titles to see what fans really want. Not that I haven't enjoyed the other games but I think I can say I will enjoy this one a bit more, in the end the Pokémon Company will be the big winner anyway but that doesn't mean they can't give us games we want. Fingers crossed
I hope this sells extremely well and shows Game Freak that they've been leaving money on the table all these years by refusing to change. I'm sure they've been happy with the sales and that's why they kept the game as it was, but they could easily appeal to both kids and adults by altering the format and skill levels.
@@NeverSaySandwich1 I want to pay them for making good games of a franchise I love, and not pay them when they make bad games. The only way to speak to major companies is with $. If we buy when they take a new direction and we like it, then we can get more of that. If you refuse to buy even when they show effort, they'll revert back to what's easiest because what's the point of effort if there's no financial benefit
As someone that’s loved Pokémon when it first came out when I was a kid (I’m 33 now) this is what I’ve been waiting for 😊 It doesn’t have to have Breath of the Wild graphics to put a huge grin on my face, because the joy for me is being able to catch and enjoy Pokémon in their natural habitats. I can’t wait to see what direction future main titles of the series are going to take, and I’ll be there for the adventure just like I was when I was a kid. This truly brings joy to my heart and I can’t wait to play it in just a few days 😁😭❤️
As someone who have been here since the beginning (30yr old) I feel the exact same way. This is the type of Pokémon game we’ve all fantasized about as children. Can’t wait to play this! 😄
It feels nice to finally get something alittle different and refreshing from Pokemon. All these remakes of games we all played as kids/teens at first had me excited but I found myself quickly getting bored of the same old formula game after game. Between not being able to find/buy actual cards due to scalpers and ridiculous inflation to the same old games I felt in the last few years my love of Pokemon really take a hit. Will be nice to finally have something alittle bit new and fresh to reinvigorate the series.
@@HandheldGamer1991 oh yea that would be interesting too! We will have to see how 'well' this game dones for them financially. If we speak loudly enough with our wallets they may decide to venture into other things
@@HandheldGamer1991 You're the first person I've seen bring up ranger in reference to this game. That's definitely a game they should bring back to the switch.
what blowed my mind is that if a pokemon can use only 4 moves like always, your pokemon never forgets the other moves, is like having moves in background that are not used and you can swap easily with the main moves my thyplosion has like 20 moves and i can swap them when i am checking the stats
@@supercoolcakes8952 Uhh, no. I'm normally never someone to defend gamefreak, but the 4 move limit isn't because of laziness. It's a gameplay decision. So you can't have dozens of moves at your disposal at once.
@@kirin1230 maybe. but the battle system never evolves, and as stupid as the anime is, it doesnt limit the pokemon to 4 moves, thereby letting even relatively weaker unevolved pokemon do better in battle. And if they let you have more moves, it doesnt mean you'd have to use all of them. It would just be nice to use a pokemons full moveset rather than have to decide if a pokemon gets solar beam or hyper beam.
@@supercoolcakes8952 Interesting idea I hadn't considered yet. I think your idea definitely could work if executed correctly, however I personally am fine with the 4 move limit. However, the last thing I want is Pokemon to be further stagnated, so perhaps it would be better to change the system further in the future. Thanks for sharing your opinion.
I haven't been super excited for a Pokemon game in a while, but I preordered this not too long back as it seemed very unique. Having watched this review, Friday can't come soon enough!
Glad to hear that my preorder wasn't wasted! Really happy to see Pokémon move in this direction; I've been wanting Pokémon to move closer to a real time RPG for over 10 years now, and this is pretty close to what I wanted 10 years ago (and kind of looks like it's from 10 years ago too)!
I'm really thinking about jumping on this one. I've never really played any of the past Pokemon games. But this looks like my jam (I love open-world games)
Mainline pokemon games are well thought out, clean experiences, they are well streamlined and pretty good games. My gripe with the series is that they've been relatively simple, easy experiences and don't give me much of a challenge but from reviews; this seems to change that quite a bit. I'll advise to look at more reviews and opinions that aren't bias or salty before taking a dive. I think I will be purchasing.
Check Eurogamer review. She did an in depth review and does not gloss over or omit some of the flaws not mentioned here, like the rank gating that stops you from just simply exploring how you want.
I think the Shiny rate is the same it's just you will be encountering multiple of these Pokemon in hoards so the probability of finding one increases significantly
I like with the amount of Pokemon spawns it could be a reasonable challenge to both complete the pokedex and get a shiny pokemon for each dex entry without having to invest a ridiculously exorbitant amount of time into the game. (Talking maybe 500 or so hours instead of literal thousands)
Alright I’m sold. The fps does seem like an issue, but I’m reminded of my first time playing BoTW and the game didn’t have the best performance either, yet it didn’t stop me from greatly enjoying the game.
I'm going to choose Cyndaquil as my starter. It was my very first Pokemon back in the day with Silver, so getting a chance to choose it again in such a new kind of Pokemon game is way too good to pass up. I was not expecting the game to be so highly praised after your last video on it. I know that people have plenty of complaints about recent Pokemon games and I can understand that to a point, but to be quite honest, I've enjoyed the vast majority of main series of Pokemon games, including the recent BD/SP. That being said, Legends Arceus taking the series in a new direction is still really good too. It's kind weird to call this a spin-off. It isn't the typical kind of mainseries game, but it is still developed by Game Freak and will probably be featured whenever they showcase the line of mainseries titles.
From one long-time fan to another: I am just sad/angry they don't use the full potential of the series. It's getting really hard for me these days to defend or enjoy the mainseries.
I started off with cyndaquil and I’m loving it 🥰 as a kid I couldn’t really understand the game and I couldn’t beat the Pokémon league but now I’m a lot older and to see the new Pokémon altogether it’s awesome I even think legends is the toughest Pokémon game of them all! 9/10 sounds good to me.. I’m honestly happy and can’t wait to see what the rest of the game has in store 🕺🏽😌
The fact we can move during battles feels like a fever dream, more importantly, I thought I was going to be disappointed with this game but I am taking my chances with this Edit Holy shit thanks for the 94 likes
the new mechanics are what we needed in the series decades ago, talking about the combat system, it is the right direction in my opinion. and the most important, this is the hardest pokemon game since black and white and i am glad (it is not an insanely hard pokemon, just not as easy as the other 3d games) , the strategy component is more present here. complete the pokedex is challenging and rewarding, i am sure this is not for everyone, but for those that enjoy doing this can say it is one of the best implemented until now
Was Black and White.... hard? Dude, you can finish any Pokémon games without struggle and Black and White is not an exception. Besides, although it is not that hard, the most “complicated” game in Pokémon is Ultra Sun and Ultra moon. Black and White are sleepy...
@@pedromonteiro2248 Only the Ghethis battle was difficult but Black and White weren't hard they were just more ambitious. Those games took most risk by only allowing you to catch gen 5 pokemon.
@@pedromonteiro2248 it is just an expression, actually none of the pokemon games are hard, this pokemon legends is not hard either and you are right, you can win every single pokemon game since the gameboy era without struggle, but i wanted to say is that every new main pokemon after 5th gen was more and more easy, and i hated that, those had no challenge at all
That really depends on whether this sells well or not. The Diamond and Pearl remakes sold extremely well so this needs to sell as well, or better, if we hope to ever see a Pokémon game like it again.

I'm really looking forward to this one. I'm also looking forward to how they implement what they learnt from the development into the future mainstream Pokemon titles. I've never been the "I want every single Pokemon in the game" person, so I wouldn't mind if they limited the number of Pokemon to balance things out and give us a full experience.
@@DrViperVideos also just 1 hub town with afk npc's just standing around doing nothing and a semi open world that looks so empty. Not hating on it but this just looks so rushed as every other pokemon game these days
I really do hope that the game is really this great. I'm just tempering my expectations, since NL also gave Sword/Shield and Sonic Colours an 8/10. And if the internet made anything clear, it's that those games were divisive (hell, Alex, somebody who works at NL, was iffy Sword and Shield).
It's just a missed opportunity that there are no gyms or different cities. They've taken inspiration from Zelda but missed to see how incredible well balanced and divided the map of hyrule is. It's still all a huge square but the regions make it seem much bigger.
@@Subremedy Yeah I get that. I'm kinda on the fence because I want them to continue on making these type of games and improving them but I also don't want to support it like that either.
@@C0rrier No but there has never been a pokemon game like this in general. And multiple games took inspiration from BOTW and they obviously did for this game. Just wish they would've went a bit further with it and not rushing it out like this
It’s a step in the right direction for Pokémon and people are happy Game Freak is finally listening to the fans. That’s why they called it a near perfect game as this is a Pokémon fan’s dream. :)
I was very slow to warm up to the idea of this game but the more I see of it, the more excited I get! I'm choosing Cyndaquil. Rowlet is my boi, but I don't particularly like his evolutions and - going off of trailer footage - it would seem the Sinnoh starters are catchable. So my grass/fire/water triangle will be comprised of Turtwig, Cyndaquil and Piplup! (I chose Totodile in gen 2 so this'll be a neat change of pace as well.) Sidenote: This game gives me vibes of that Pokémon mod for Minecraft.
Yees, something new! More fun to complete dex. An incentive to evolve all pokemon. More fun to explore. No random encounters. Running the risk of getting jumped by wild pokemon. Dodging and hiding. A town to help grow by quests. Unlockable clothes. This sounds like a winner and I'm excited for a pokemon game again for the first time since Sun/Moon. I hope the Legends version is here to stay in future titles.
If this is actually challenging in some way, I'd be delighted! Maybe I'll give it a try (despite Shining Pearl wasting my time with the power of love against completely underleveled opponents). But this does sound amazing. I don't even care about technical problems (to a degree, obviously) - those can be patched.
Definitely already see the challenge. I kinda just went with the story and only catch/battled a bit. I think 3rd actual trainer battle? Went against a munchlax i had to cheese by letting my weaker party die to potion spam my starter lol. Definitely never had to do that that early.
I am so hyped for this ;_; Been playing since gen1, this looks to be exactly what i wanted minus multiplayer and higher quality across the board. Gamefreak is improving and I love to see it! I love the idea of needing more than just catching the pokemon to complete its entry. Every single pokemon gets more time in the sun, its more surprising that it took this long!
"what i wanted minus higher quality across the board" That fits gamefreak's style 100%. They always seem to be making games that would have been amazing had they been made 5 years ago.
tbh, i dont care if it is a spin off, if they will release more pokemon legends games like this but improved, goodbye the main games, after black and white they were never fun anymore for me
It's hard to explain what I'm feeling right now. I literally just took my first step out of the village, and I've been playing for 4 hours. Just taking everything in.. this is what we all imagined as a kid, before we had anything comparable. Playing in our own anime, and open world to explore with your Pokémon. I literally cannot stop crying. I have been waiting for a game to make me feel like this again for a long time. The gameplay could literally be Pong, and this is already one of my favorite games of all-time. All of the talk about low effort from "fans". I do agree that they should be taking more steps towards modernization, but there's clearly a handful of designers who genuinely care about how we are going to feel playing their game. Pokémon, you nailed it.
Yes! as someone who has played the originals and was really tired of the lazy same formula this is the right direction and it’s a really well solid game I can’t stop playing and having fun
I am so excited!! Everything i have heard and seen has made it so difficult to wait until Friday and this review reaffirms that. I can't wait to play this!
“One of the greatest Pokémon games ever made” DAMN those big words Anyway I couldn’t have asked more better news today. I am more excited than ever to play this game
Not really. Depending on who you ask, there's about three or four Pokémon games that legitemately qualify as great games outside of the inch-thick bubble that the series floats around in.
It kinda looks like Sword and Shield was the sacrificial lamb in their experimentation with the open world implementation of Pokemon. At least this one looks more polished (Sword and Shield was probably the only Pokemon game I never played). Might actually give this one a try after they sort out some of the technical issues with patch fixes... I'm not usually a fan of day one releases as more often than not there are technical issues to be expected.
Whilst they completely failed to make use of the huge increase in power from 3DS to Switch the 8th gen titles were pretty decent. Probably the best mainline titles since gen 4!
Played it for about 6 hours so far, having throughly explored the first two areas, and all but the volcano in the third area. The game explored a lot of interesting ideas, but ultimately the gameplay is grindy and stale, and it really does not feel rewarding to evolve most mons yourself as most evolutions can be found in the wild pretty commonly. The lack of progress-stopping battles should have been replaced by puzzles, but it just isn't. Ride mons are introduced way too quick, especially with wyndeer's jump that can be easilly used to mountain climb which reveals a sad truth: there is very little reward for exploration. See that mountain? You can climb it... But you have absolutely no reason to as there is nothing there. It's just such a waste of opprotunity to do something like New Pokemon Snap where you complete psudopuzzles to find new pokemon to expand your research notes. Update: I played through the rest of the game. My opinion has not changed. It is still very much a bunch of interesting ideas that just aren't explored very well/much.
Thanks for the review. I always wait for such reviews and comments before I decide to fully commit to a game. Personally I would have preferred if pokemon turned into a game like Astral Chain as far as combat goes and I was hoping Arceus would do that but the combat to me seems off.
@@blacklion2432 honestly the combat is the only part of the game that feels more or less complete. I wish they showed turn order changing as you switch moves, but otherwise it works pretty well, especially with other agressive pokemon joining battle. But important battles are so few and far between, this really doesn't matter that much. EDIT: turn order tracker is always available, you just have to push Y in battle.
A Step in the right direction, though I won’t be buying just yet, as the Open World kinda seems a bit bland and empty, but definitely happy to see Gamefreak try something new. Hope they expand on the open world in the next Mainline Pokemon game
@@rodneyhorsley8601 exactly, the regular people I’ve seen who have already played the game have said the world rarely feels empty. For some reason the marketing to show that off has just been terrible
@@patrickholden4223 yeah they kept the previews a bit empty on purpose to have the wow factor when you finaly go in the zones. People are easily spending 10-15 hours just in one zone to see everything.
2:53 I’ve given it some thought, and the reason there’s no voice acting for the games is probably that, due to certain Pokémon names being different in different languages, they’d have to dub a game in EVERY SINGLE LANGUAGE that has been supported in Pokémon forever. That also includes American English, British English, Latin Spanish, European Spanish, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, etc.
The technically only need to do two dubs, Japanese/English. It’s not uncommon for Japanese games to do this, and it requires significantly less time and effort.
Doesn't the anime already have dubs in different languages? I don't see why they can't do the same for the games, outside of the Pokémon Company refusing to give Game Freak a big enough budget. There's really no reason for them to not try out voice acting at this point but Pokémon is well known for taking ages to implement ideas and mechanics that every other AAA game tends to have by default.
I've had a tentatively good feeling about this game since it was introduced. I can now say, I'm 100% in. It looks great and it sounds like it plays great and I'm so there! My only concern being that it may turn me off main-line Pokemon games going forward. We'll see. I'm thinking Rowlett. Never played it before. Plus Grass/Flying - seems like a solid combo.
Pretty cool new spin-off, I'd like something similar to this style in the next mainline game but if not I'd also welcome a Legends game set before Gen 8 based on medieval Europe
It's actually not a spin-off according to the developer. GameFreak/The Pokèmon Company have stated that they consider this to be part of the main series.
I have seen only two trailers for Legends. I have muted all related terms on Twitter. And I listened to this review without looking at the video. And now, I get to play a 9/10 game without spoilers. It’s safe to say that I’m chuffed to bits :D
Honestly! I'm especially tired of fans forgiving bad visuals with the notion that Pokémon has never "been about graphics." Whatever that even means, it's a franchise that has always attempted to look beautiful on whatever system it occupied. I'd just like for it to stay that way!
I feared these games would not be good, but from the reviews and leaks it seems like this is one of the best Pokémon games gamefreak has released sense the generation 5 games.
@@DotHacker99 miles better than their initial trailers had looked. But of course it’s still an embarrassing game graphically. Just has some potential to the art style that I think wasn’t shown in trailers.
I hope the next games would follow this direction (Or imagine if they remake Pokemon BW similar to this hmm). Either way I am definitely excited to play this game!
Glad to hear that you all liked the game. I am still hesitant and plan on waiting for reviews from more familiar sources, but this makes me more optimistic than I was an hour ago. I think that the real determining factor for me will be how strong the story is, and how strong the characters are in this game, as well as how you interact with them. If it’s just normal “talk to named NPC to get one of a handful of lines”, I will definitely be disappointed, as I really want the world to feel… well, real. Anyway, that’s my two brain cells’ thoughts on the matter.
I haven't been this excited about any game other than a new _Zelda_ entry, so that's saying something. I am unbelievably pumped. I was planning to choose Cyndaquil, but I hear from others who've played early that Rowlet's typing is better overall. You can get all of them at some point, so I'll start with Rowlet.
Being a big fan of decidueye I was a little disappointed with the new typing and design, my decidueye got one shotted a lot of Times and a lot of Pokémon counter it unfortunately.
This will be my first Pokémon game. Never really been too interested, in the past. Saw the trailer for this game last year & it just looked interesting. I decided to give this series a go, finally.
Pokemon yellow from the first generation of games was my first pokemon game at least bordering on 22 to 23 years ago, and I remember how it felt to experience capturing and battling alongside now iconic pokemon for the first time that are so familiar to many people around the globe today. I hope you are able to experience for the first time the same kind of wonder i once had on my first impression of the series way back when.
You keep saying it's a spin off, but Nintendo confirmed that it's a core game with that large sheet "Where did your pokemon journey begin" thing on Twitter (and TH-cam iirc). It's a core, main series game.
Correction: Gamefreak said that Pokémon Legends Arceus is a mainline series game. Not a spin off. Hopefully they continue to work on this style and build upon this and add more multipleplayer like battles and ways to run around in the world with other players like sword and sheld
I promise you, as someone who endured the jank of Security Breach, this is gorgeous. I’m not big on multiplayer and keeping things largely with Jubilife is calming in a way. A base to plan your moves before you go out, ensuring you prepared properly in a game that’s largely about missions just works. And come on first person shooter in a Pokémon game. How neat is that.
The early reviews are very positive, and that's encouraging. I'll be waiting a couple of weeks to get the general consensus of players before deciding if I purchase or not, but I'm cautiously optimistic thus far.
Finally jumped on this today. The time felt right to get it, even at full price though I think if it wasn't a Pokemon brand game it should be sold at $40, but I'm going in with an open mind while expecting a repetitive (mostly) calm simple yet innovative adventure. I think the sum of it's parts is enough for me to justify playing. I held off on buying any of the Switch Pokemon games after really not liking the Let's Go Pikachu/Evee games and being disenchanted by Pokemon since after Black & White on DS. X&Y are the last games I played but Arceus stood out to me. While I hoped they had better textures I want to support Pokemon going in this fresh direction with the series and taking more risks and adding at least a dash of challenge. Overall it looks like a relaxing and fun pick up and play game. Everything feels polished and simple (even if to a fault at some points). The character motivations, goals, and story are all very easy to follow and in that sense it's a bit of comfort food. I'd say this is a great introduction game for someone who never played Pokemon before and a welcome addition to longtime Pokemon fans. That being said I'm hoping Scarlet and Violet bring some of the new additions from Arceus over. Pokemon is going crazy with how many drops they have done the last few years and in 2022.
The concept and execution is excellent. There's a few buggy things but they'll get ironed out in the coming weeks. You can go at your own pace but if you rush too much you are gonna get your arse handed to you by wild pokemon.
@@raf686 The pixel art has always been pretty good at least, sure nothing impressive but it had a lot of charm and it was nice to look at compared to those ugly textures and animations
Last pokemon I played was Ultra Sun and honestly I couldn't get myself to do the post game content, because when I finished the main campaign I was already bored. But Legends is really getting my attention with each new trailer, it's all that I ever wanted in a pokemon game (open world, HD graphics, new mechanics, etc.). I don't even have a Switch but I might get one just to play this game
Technically speaking it looks disappointing, but watching this review gave me the same thrill I had with Blue/Red, Gold/Silver/Crystal, Ruby/Sapphire, Platinum and HeartGold/SoulSilver. It looks amazing!
To me, not having a multiplayer is actually a positive. Don't get me run it is fun to battle other people and set up teams but i have been saying that they should focus on single player more for years btw, as someone who skipped Sun & Moon, I'm going with Rowlet
I'm honestly surprised by the final verdict. Maybe it's the fan, nostalgia-loving community as well in the comments section, but this game looks horrible. There is nothing engaging here other than doing fetch quests and repetitive end game design. Not to mention, it has that trope of locking the "true" ending behind an absurd grind. I feel like just because it's different, doesn't make it "one of the best". Innovation and creativity that is not controlled by logical game design and planning, does not make a good product.
I’m so glad that this seems to be a big hit! It’s a shame that it’s so ugly, but I hope that now that they have a new formula that they could build on they can focus more on visuals as they go on!
I feel like it's an exaggeration. We're talking about Pokémon, graphics aren't their quality. One step at a time. First gameplay, then you fix cosmetics.
Let me break it down for those who are unsure. And my top 2 biggest gripe in this game. 1.) First “5 hours” is terribly slow. 2.) Graphics / NPCs are not amazing The gameplay is enjoyable fun! You will die and loose out some rare items. Really wish Gamefreak hired someone from BOTW team because if they did this would game would of been a 10/10 game. Is it worth $60??? I hate to say it, but kinda of / “yes”. Hopefully they add more with DLC.
My best way of describing the pokemon series is that they always seem to be making games that would be amazing had they been made 5 years ago for a previous console. It's half way there to being a switch game.
looks like a solid move - there's just too many pokemon (and they're starting to look dry of ideas), so why not make a game that builds on the foundation, and just add a few new legendary/unique pokemon each game?
I think that is what they wanted to start doing with Sword and Sheild but people wanting every single mon ment they couldn't explore off track as much as they wanted. I really am excited to see this MH feeling pokemon game.
I have so many problems with the Pokémon franchise, but I truly hope this is a step in a new direction
A turtle also hopes that
I stopped buying mainline games just because they got so predictable etc. Was almost hoping for a bad review of this one so I won't have to take a risk in being disappointed again but after this I just might have to get it still.
Fair enough personally for the most part I've liked all the newer games only one I wasn't crazy about was the Let's Go games. Other than that I think the series has been taking small steps toward something new sense Black & White.
at least this gave us different style and new experience
I think a lot of the problems that people are having is that we grown up and the game hasn't. And sometimes it's hard to reconcile

Why do you say if it sells well?
@@ChewyLa I agree a lot of things are missing for sure. Almost consider this like a trial run. BRUHHHHH IMAGINE SEEING AZ TALL ASS LOL
We probably won't see the war, I imagine that is too dark for Pokemon
Didnt the ultimate weapon used in the war split the timeline? And I guess that also created megastones. So up until the firing of the weapon it wound be one single timeline and no mega evolution.
Yep always hated all the random multi-player add-ins with a passion. Immersion-breaking and annoying.

As someone about to be 33 next month, I totally agree with this.
It should have better graphics that breath of the wild since that's a wii u game

really? This looks boring and lame. This is not what I wanted. I'll wait for the next mainline games instead.
It feels nice to finally get something alittle different and refreshing from Pokemon. All these remakes of games we all played as kids/teens at first had me excited but I found myself quickly getting bored of the same old formula game after game. Between not being able to find/buy actual cards due to scalpers and ridiculous inflation to the same old games I felt in the last few years my love of Pokemon really take a hit. what blowed my mind is that if a pokemon can use only 4 moves like always, your pokemon never forgets the other moves, is like having moves in background that are not used and you can swap easily with the main moves
my thyplosion has like 20 moves and i can swap them when i am checking the stats
They don't forget moves? You can change the loadout of the moves? That is definitely something to consider!
Pokemon can only have 4 moves because gamefreak are too stupid to design a menu that allows you to click or scroll down and select other moves.
It would just be nice to use a pokemons full moveset rather than have to decide if a pokemon gets solar beam or hyper beam.

Right? I’ve never really been interested in the Pokémon video games but I just preordered this one. It will be my first!
What’s the point of preordering?
I love how they're going back in time and telling Pokemon stories from a more primitive time
Glad to hear that my preorder wasn't wasted!
It's not completely open world, it has open areas that aren't directly connected to each other. Hopefully one day it will be though.
do it, all the leakers say it's great
This is your jam......I like blueberry jam personally
I swear I'm going to be playing this everyday until Pokemon Day. I hear the shiny rates in this game are great so I'll be catching as many as I can.
It’s neither. Overworld shinies. You just don’t miss that random one
Same but it’s not a big game only around 40 hours to finish everything
I’m pretty sure the shiny rates is still the same 1/4096 from the last few gens.
You will not be disappointed with cindaquil
I started off with cyndaquil and I’m loving it 🥰 as a kid I couldn’t really understand the game and I couldn’t beat the Pokémon league but now I’m a lot older and to see the new Pokémon altogether it’s awesome I even think legends is the toughest Pokémon game of them all! 9/10 sounds good to me.. I’m honestly happy and can’t wait to see what the rest of the game has in store 🕺🏽😌

Not really. Depending on who you ask, there's about three or four Pokémon games that legitemately qualify as great games outside of the inch-thick bubble that the series floats around in.
That’s what everyone was saying about Sword and Shield and that game is far from it. Can’t trust day 1 reviews.
@@elcocho1568 mmmm i completely understand what you are saying. I just can’t help but get excited for this game
I can’t wait! I haven’t been excited for a Pokemon game in many years. I hope this new direction continues in the next main games.
Sword and Shield really isn't that bad at all. Especially with the DLC's, I liked it a lot. Even when compared to the previous gens.

The technically only need to do two dubs, Japanese/English. It’s not uncommon for Japanese games to do this, and it requires significantly less time and effort.
@@see.eye.2361 that would be weird for non english players who has memories of Pokémon names for decades. Really weird.
@@madaraquoi they could have a mute setting for those that don’t speak either
@@madaraquoi This type of mentality and whining is exactly why the mainline pokemon games have done nothing interesting for YEARS.
2:54 wow that menu is gorgeous
I hope in the next game they go further in this direction and have more animations during battles like Pokémon dodging attacks causing yours to miss
"It is technically a spin-off game" The Pokemon Company literally stated it is a main core game, not a spin-off.
Yep, it's main series
Graphics doesn’t bother me, I’m hyped
I've had a tentatively good feeling about this game since it was introduced. I can now say, I'm 100% in. It looks great and it sounds like it plays great and I'm so there! My only concern being that it may turn me off main-line Pokemon games going forward. We'll see.
I'm thinking Rowlett. Never played it before. Plus Grass/Flying - seems like a solid combo.
Hate to tell you mate, Rowlet never has been and won’t be a flying type in this game
@@minecraftmayneax I- What? Rowlet is Grass/Flying type
@@ThomBaws he doesn’t stay that way is all
From the leaks the Hisuian Decidueye is grass/fighting
I think Rowlett ends up being Grass/Fighting. For reference, Typhlosion is Fire/Ghost and Samurott is Water/Dark
I didnt expected the final score and yet that is a BIG DEAL for a Pokemon game
This video would probably make Alex and Jon giggle like six year olds.
The gameplay seems super exciting. Hopefully they keep improving their visuals.
Honestly! I'm especially tired of fans forgiving bad visuals with the notion that Pokémon has never "been about graphics." Whatever that even means, it's a franchise that has always attempted to look beautiful on whatever system it occupied. I'd just like for it to stay that way!
it's 2022, and Nintendo still is so behind on EVERYTHING. it's actually really really sad.
The Game is like Naruto, Breath of the Wild and Pokemon all together in one game which is really cool.
I feared these games would not be good, but from the reviews and leaks it seems like this is one of the best Pokémon games gamefreak has released sense the generation 5 games.
Can't get much more boring, slow, and easy than Pokémon before Legends, so of course this feels better!
me, who has already pre-ordered this game and watching the review...
Yes, yes its all coming together
Finally an open world pokemon game I can't wait to play it I ordered the physical copy so I might have to wait next week to play it unfortunately 😂
A 9/10 from you ...its a must buy!!!
Good review, but a slight correction, Basculegion does not provide the flight mechanic - that is Hisuian Braviary.
I bet Pokemon Legends Arceus has DLC.
This footage looks so much better than the trailers. This is genuinely starting to look really pretty.
Except the environments. The colors are dull and the polygon counts make it look like a gamecube game or worse in places
@@DotHacker99 miles better than their initial trailers had looked. But of course it’s still an embarrassing game graphically. Just has some potential to the art style that I think wasn’t shown in trailers.
@fuslink WTF?
@@DotHacker99 Bots. just report it and move on
I hope the next games would follow this direction
(Or imagine if they remake Pokemon BW similar to this hmm). Either way I am definitely excited to play this game!
Wish there was an option to have enemies scale to your level. I have roaming a world where everything can be 1 shotted.
Same
I can definitely say that this review is the polar opposite of the previous one I watched.
@@angeldude101 which review was it? Could you link it so I can watch it as well? If you don't mind.
Damn I was expecting an 8 out of 10 which is still good, but a 9 okay I see you Pokémon!
It’s pronounced: Pokehmon, not Pokeymon.
True:)
th-cam.com/video/a-n7Q4p6mgQ/w-d-xo.html
Man yall Nintendo fans got stockholme syndrome or some shit.
It's 2022 and the game looks like it's a wii game
@@BoleDaPole Just shows the power of a single brand I guess, they could sell anything to these people haha
“Basculegion enables you to fly”- umm 4:50
I noticed that too, seems like a pretty funny mistake to me
The early reviews are very positive, and that's encouraging.
9/10! And i thought i couldn't get more hyped. 🙃
Those textures are roughhh wow, what is it with Pokémon and not being able to showcase decent graphics?
The textures are streets ahead of what were featured in SwSh. Are they perfect? Nah. But they aren't awful either.
Because pokemon has never been about graphics???
@@raf686 The pixel art has always been pretty good at least, sure nothing impressive but it had a lot of charm and it was nice to look at compared to those ugly textures and animations
@@jetpackandbutlers5915 I mean that's fine but for me graphics have never been a thing for me when it comes to pokemon.
4:51 Ah yes Basculegion will help me fly up to the mountains for sure
I'm so excited to play. This is so new!!
Technically speaking it looks disappointing, but watching this review gave me the same thrill I had with Blue/Red, Gold/Silver/Crystal, Ruby/Sapphire, Platinum and HeartGold/SoulSilver. It looks amazing!
It's such an amazing game even with the tech limitations. The hype was real and it did not disappoint!
To me, not having a multiplayer is actually a positive. Don't get me run it is fun to battle other people and set up teams but i have been saying that they should focus on single player more for years
btw, as someone who skipped Sun & Moon, I'm going with Rowlet
I just cannot believe this game is actually here. It's amazing to think it was announced almost a year ago.
I was cautiously optimistic but it looks like this game turned out well and looks fun so I'll be getting it as a longtime pokemon fan
Literally, it looks awful. I don't understand how can they make it so ugly
It feels like a rushed game, I dont think its even the developers fault
Looks awful although the gameplay looks fresh they could have took more time to improve the graphics.
2.) Graphics / NPCs are not amazing
The gameplay is enjoyable fun!
"Basculegion allows you to fly"
Fish can fly now?
"They fly now!" - Poe Dameron
looks like a solid move - there's just too many pokemon (and they're starting to look dry of ideas), so why not make a game that builds on the foundation, and just add a few new legendary/unique pokemon each game?
I think that is what they wanted to start doing with Sword and Sheild but people wanting every single mon ment they couldn't explore off track as much as they wanted. I really am excited to see this MH feeling pokemon game.
