    OA visa applied for in your home country - insurance requirement. O visa applied for in Thailand - no insurance requirement. Regarding health insurance in Thailand, the most important thing is will the company you go with payout and will you need to pay and claim the money back. In my experience, Pacific Cross are extremely reliable and you don't have to pay for treatment upfront, the hospital will deal direct with them. Now whether you choose a high cover insurance to cover everything, or a low cost cover with your own financial backup, or no insurance at all, and cover any bills yourself, is up to you.

    A good advice for nnot needing to go to hospital: DON'T DRIVE MOTORBIKE. It's the main cause of going to emergency room for expats. Taxi are so cheap here. You would spend less than one day of staying in hospital for your whole life of taking taxi.

    I just had an accident in Thailand 1week and half ago, since my insurance was not yet in order and started only from 01/06/2023, i went to Bangkok Hospital and they wanted to charge me between 55000 and 650000 bath for 3 days stay! I broke my wrist in a bike accident in Pattaya...An insurance would of made my life so easy...now, i went tru hell, walked around for 3 days and after 3 hospitals later with still no help, i took a plane back to Belgium and got the help i needed! So to all people reading this, pls make sure you have everything in order before coming....

I came straight back up and some people helped me out. Like you say with you twisting your ankle. You have to be so careful there. I caught and infection as some of the water had gone in my mouth. We vacationed in Jomtien in February 2018. My husband got sick and our insurance send us to the Bangkok hospital in pattiya .
    My husband was there for 3 weeks. 11 days in ICU and 10 days on the ward. He was diagnosed with some environmental flue bug.
    That was basically before Covid. The main problem came from his lung and short of oxygen.
    It was basically just before the outbreak of Covid but basically unknown at this time.
    Since he had never had a problem with his lung and 15 years smoke free the insurance paid the whole bill plus our trip back to Canada with a flight nurse. So a word of warning never go without travel insurance. Never skimp on it. At the time he was 73 so a senior but he is doing fine.

    A couple of points, There were some errors in your vid regarding the cost of Room & Board and Intensive Care, it's circa 5,000-10,000 for a private room and 15,000-22,000 Baht per night at a Pattaya Private hospital (Including Bangkok/Pattaya) not 35,000 and 200,000.
    Anyway, good video and advise.
    As a side note, you may at some point in the future, may like to do a video on the Pattaya Sports Club, They're a Charity run club that do a lot of good work for kids schools/orphanages and on the subject of health care, one of the major benefits to members is they receive 10% discount at many of the private hospitals in Pattaya as well as a discounted health insurance scheme for members.

    So much more expensive than in the US. Here you just show up to the hospital, stay as long as it takes then leave without paying a dime unless you have insurance. People from other countries have no financial obligation at all it’s all free and they don’t even need insurance.

    • @OShackHennessy
      @OShackHennessy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@oneendofthailand well I’ll admit my comment was mostly sarcasm. Most people here have health insurance, I was just referring to the fact that our healthcare is so expensive because of all of the patients treated for free. So basically if you can’t afford healthcare you’ll essentially get it for free if it’s serious enough. Cash costs here are perhaps slightly above the high end Thai hospital. But 99% of people who would need to pay cash never actually pay if you get my point.

    In my opinion anyone who chooses to live in Asia without having proper medical insurance or who holidays in Asia without travel insurance is an irresponsible fool. Accidents DO happen as do medical emergencies (particularly as one gets older) and the cost and stress of dealing with them are alleviated by adequate insurance provision.
    Simply trusting to good fortune or expecting to be rescued by the generosity of others (friends, family or 'gofundme' appeals) are foolhardy alternatives to taking personal responsibility by way of proper insurance coverage. It should be part of everyone's budget.
    'Kev-In-Thailand' (RiP) regularly would say that insurance wasn't necessary and then suffered badly as a result.

They seem to negotiate a little depending if you have insurance or are paying directly at the time. The bill would have been 200,000 in total if I wanted the lazer treatment to break them down and remove them. The ICU varies of course depending on what your situation is, but if you are in a coma you can be expect a bill for 200,000 per night.
