    ASIDE from the ease of use on uneven roads compared to haptic touch screens, the SINGLE BIGGEST plus of buttons is that they can be used "by feel" and don't require you to take your eyes off the road for the 2 seconds it takes EACH TIME you have to locate where to touch!!
    I wonder how long it will be before this obnoxious fashion for touch controls reverts back to buttons, knobs and sliders after we come to realise how many fatal and serious accidents occur where a driver's gave was avert for precious seconds???

    • @Games_and_Music
      @Games_and_Music 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I totally agree, nowadays they do add haptic feedback, but yeah, you can't just feel your way across a touch screen, because you'll be selecting or swiping all kinds of stuff along the way.
      I am not sure if the button will ever make its great return, but i do agree, mobile phones were bad enough of a distraction when they came out, but touchscreen took it up some notches.
      And now i sometimes have to hold myself back from not smacking the phones out of people's hands that almost bump into me on the street.
      Somehow being distracted in traffic seems to be a priority, as attentive travelers will move out of the way of 'unreliable' vehicles/pedestrians, which is just absurd and arrogant.
      As if their "multi-tasking" is somehow our responsibility.
      /end rant

      @magnustan841 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s not such a massive problem if the car has a good voice assistant system, like MBUX or BMW Personal Assistant. (although the one in newer iDrive 8 cars isn’t as good as the one in iDrive 7 cars, for now) You can just tell the car what you want to do, no need to use the touchscreen. Also, this Audi and the interiors of cars from the Asian brands are where it’s at in terms of functionality. They strike the ideal balance of buttons, knobs and touchscreens. That’s the keyword, balance, I don’t think you’d want all buttons, with no touchscreen either, interior might get confusing at that point.

    • @markchip1
      @markchip1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@magnustan841 - Touchcreens have their uses, I just hate it when so much of the operation is purely and only available by touch. It's so unnecessary! And in some circumstances, it can be decidedly dangerous.

    Nice "It just works" dig there... 🍎
    It sounds nice and quiet from the inside, but when an RS version passed me on the A1 about a month back, the tyre thrash was very loud - penalty of having wider, more sporty rubber, perhaps? Definitely nowhere near as quiet as a BMW i8 when it's on the move. This regular GT is a better all-round car than the RS version, which seems compromised by the focus on out and out performance. It almost proves that Audi should have left that end of things with Porsche, and instead focussed on an Avant variant and better efficiency, in my opinion.

    This is a beautiful, well engineered car that is impractical to people that like to have fun. It is a grocery getter. I like to go to the beach, but I live 210 miles away. Think I'm betting on that 230 advertised range? No thanks. I like to go to Vegas. Can't even think about it. I would NOT buy a gas car with a 230 range, so I damned sure will not buy an EV with 230. The winds have shifted and the fire is headed your way, or the hurricane has turned and you are now in the path. Evacuate? Or, plug in and get some more charge and then evacuate? Mom is sick and you need to get to her... I can think of hundreds of scenarios where I need to drive greater than 230 in a day. Again, no thanks. This car is a second car.

    It’s not debatable, for many the public charging infrastructure is rubbish. Too many companies, methods of payment. Not to mention finding these these mythical (non Tesla) fast chargers. As form home charging, a large number of motorists don’t have the ability to park/ charge off street.
    One final thing, no mass recycling of EV batteries, yet. I’m 66 and can say one thing for certain, AA batteries have increased massively since they came out. Yes the technology is better, but the price is still going up. I don’t see EV batteries being any different - as the finite resources required deplete.
    Elon Musk is on record as stating “Electric car are the future, but not powered by batteries”.

    Top gear has become too mechanical and forced for my liking I miss the OG trio, James May Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson did it much better, even the mechanical parts when James described how something worked, it was just better...

    Lazy incorrect and typical I guess. Why ddn't you do your homework, or perhaps you did but the truth dudnt fit the narrative here. The taycan and Etron GT share the J electric platform, the electric architecture and most everything important on the cars was an equal developmental parrtnership between Audi and Porsche. So stop with this borrowed tech crap and just tell the truth!

    I'm wondering how electric cars are supposed to replace ICE cars when hybrids couldn't do it. That useless trend will die down in a few years.
