First runner up took the job, but Helen was the winner, she was Miss World 1974. In 1975 she gave away the Miss United Kingdom crown to Vicky Harris, you can see in TH-cam, using the same red dress she used in Miss World and Miss Universe,
She was very uncomplicated, natural, and not pretencious at all, she was very down to earth, she deserved also to be Miss Universe, one of only four women in 8 decades to be first runner up in one contest and winner of the other, only happened in 1961 , 1979 and 2020,
Virgina I was only 11 years old when I watched Miss Universe 1979, that night I had to urge my father to drive me back home quickly to watch MU ....I took a note of my favorites on the parade of nations and you were in that top list... I had 16 top I wrote and kept that list for many years... back then .. everybody watched MU, specially women and chlidren and for many days after the pageant, everybody was talking about it, and when asked who my top favorite was, I had said Miss Wales1st, then Brazil and Venezuela...
@@oscarzermeno3871 Thanks Oscar, I was completely shocked when Bob Barker announced me between the top 12, I couldn’t believe it. It was a very nice experience and 42 years after when they ask me for some advice I say: go, enjoy, don’t expect to be between the Tops because if you fail entering you will be disappointed, you never know what the judges voted, enjoy the experience and that’s it. Miss Bermuda was really beautiful, well spoken and very nice with everyone, she went on to win Miss World in November that year and Miss England who was 2 runner up in miss Universe went to be the 1st RU to Miss Bermuda as Miss United Kingdom. Miss Venezuela was soooooo nice an a favorite since the beginning of the pageant. Today’s pageants are completely different and to much lobbie. Take care Oscar.
@@virginiaalvarez9651 una entre miles y miles, pocas mujeres pueden contar haber estado en una semifinal de Miss Universo!, ese año fue muy particular, me gustaria saber que fue lo que provocó que Miss Nicaragua abandonara el concurso.. parece que la amenazaron los Sandinistas... yo creo que en el canal de you tube REINAS SOMOS TODAS, deberian hacerte una entrevista, lo voy a sugerir.... porque creo que tienes mucho que contar de tu experiencia personal, una vez platicando con unos amigos Argentinos aca en Cacun ya muy mayores tambien comentaron entre otras chicas que fueron Miss Argentina, que tu habias quedado en segundo lugar uno o dos años antes de volver a concursar y ganar, es cierto eso ? bueno, ojala entes a este canal de you TUBE y te entrevisten!, saludos hasta Argentina!
