SHE NEVER HIDE THE FACT THAT SHE HAS A BABY. in fact organizers in miss UK, miss universe and miss World KNEW she is a single mom. back before single moms are ALLOWED to join mw and mu as long as they were never married. the controversy only rose up when the wife of the man whom Helen had an affair made media scandal after she won, thats why she was advised to resign to avoid further conflict. the following year miss universe and miss world changed the rules that contestants must be childless as well (note Helen Morgan got her full prize of 3,000 lbs that year even if she reigned only 4 days)
I don’t know about MU but according to the Morleys, technically, she didn’t break any MW rules. According to the MU rules, they only disallowed married women to compete but didn’t say anything about single mums. Ms. Morgan never married so she was allowed to compete. The Morleys knew about her status and they didn’t fire her. Morgan decided to resign because of the pressure from the press. Despite the fact that she resigned as MW, the Morleys still allowed her to keep her Miss UK title and came back to the stage to crown her successor Miss UK 1975 the following year. Of course, after this fiasco, the MW amended their rules to disallow anyone with children to compete since then.
