Amparo Munoz was the most naturally beautiful and deserving when she was crowned Miss Universe 1974. A beauty with principle, she was one to stand and fight for personal convictions with typical Spanish fiery passion. Amparo did not finish her reign. She gave up the crown 6 months later when she resisted Miss Universe Organization manipulations and refused a trip to Japan, yet she was not dethroned - the first and only Spaniard to win that crown so far. May she rest in peace by God's grace.
Amparo was an irresponsible person and very unstable. She slapped one of the chaperones in her face because she did not want to follow the rules as a Miss Universe. She even mentioned it in her book---but in a softer way. She even wanted to quit the crown when she was still in the Philippines. Even in Spain she was very unreliable. She was very pretty but too stubborn to deal with.

The face of Amparo Munoz of Spain had caught my attention when I saw her on the Phil. newspapers showing all the candidates for the 1974 Miss Universe Beauty Pageant. To me, she has the most beautiful face and I had already in mind that she will win the Miss Universe Title and she did!!!! Miss Gloria Diaz, the 1969 Miss Universe and the first Miss Universe from the Phils., who is one of the three former Miss Universe guests in this pageant is so beautiful, poised and charming. I just can't help not to notice her beauty.

Back in the day when people actually looked their race.
and when they wore real national costumes worn in their respective countries.
Yes, natural everything, no fakes, not just looks and grooming but also behaviour. And the national costumes were true cultural wear. That's what is needed today, not just going for big and loud or playing costume party, but delegates wearing real cultural ATTIRE/DRESS of true sizes and material.
Absolutely natural beauties too. This is before silicone implants and facial modification.

Can't believe this happened 45 years ago. I am now 53 years old which means I was 8 years old back then. I remember collecting trading cards of all the candidates and we would go crazy at my gradeschool in Bacolod. The most popular card was that of Miss Finland, Johanna Raunio, and Miss Aruba, Maureen Ava Viera. See, I still remember their names haha!
I can relate to that mate, I was 11 at that time and we were crazy about it in school (boy's school!) I remember my favourites were the same as yours. Now it's 2018 and times have changed a lot. I surely miss those good old days. No mobiles, no FB, no Instagram, no social media bullying. We had more personal and human interaction.

Ms. Philippines' equally lovely and was so relaxed when being interviewed, and to think she's only 18...and she's a natural Filipina beauty, looked so smart and intelligent. On the other hand, Philippines has done an amazing job in hosting that year's MU...no solo-singing performances like the MUs of today but cultural performances that are so wonderful to watch even today...Bayanihan Dance Troupe was a world renowned dance group during those years, and even the Pangkat Kawayan....gone are the days when such theatrical performances can be seen in beauty pageants...
Very true, these pageants used to be cultural exhibitions with lots of pride. About Miss Philippines, yes only 18 but very together and poised, class, excellent communication, very comfortable and secure in herself. She speaks four languages too.
What made these classic 1970's and 1980's pageant special was each young lady had her own look and style. They were graceful even without all the training they go through today. All the current contestants are so heavy prepared to speak English, they all have the same look as far a hair is concern-extensions. I was almost 9 when Miss Spain was elected Miss Universe. My mom was a huge fan, and still is today. We didn't miss the pageants each and every year. Our neighbor across the street from our NYC apt was a huge collector of everything from Spain, though she was Colombian. I remember mom calling her the next morning to talk pageant with her.
The production was excellent! The Philippine culture was showcased flawlessly.❤️🇵🇭🔥

Amparo is so beautiful that it leaves you breathless. Her beauty is unrepeatable because it is natural without surgeries. Now they are all operated on. They operate and prepare them for years, losing their naturalness. Amparo's beauty can hardly be repeated again.

It is nice to see this Ms Universe 1974. I cannot say enough about how much the people enjoyed it. All of the ladies were lovely and their demeanor admirable. The Filipinos loved the top 5, they ate just simply beautiful. I will remember each of their names forever.

No puedo creer que vi todo el concurso completo de 1974! Me llama la atención que la gente de Filipinas es muy apasionada con sus candidatas, actualmente. Grita, aplaude y hace mucho ruido para apoyarla. En ese año, sólo aplaudía. Nada o poco ruido con la voz. También las pasarelas eran más sencillas y creo que poco calificaban eso. Se fijaban más en la belleza facial y sencillez. Ahora si no tienen buena pasarela, prácticamente deben olvidarse de ganar. En fin, los tiempos cambian y me siguen gustando más, los años 80s y 90s, del concurso.

can't believe how grand and impressive the show was... Philippines really showed the world we can do this like any 'developed' countries... and oh yes, we made sure the world got to see our beautiful country and culture.... kudos to the organizers.
The Philippines here was at its closest to becoming a developed country. The other time was during its Spanish colonial period. At the time of this Miss Universe, it was ranked number two in Asia Pacific, but a good part of it was its population was only 40 million and sustainable. Gov't and citizens' self-control and discipline is another part of it.

So many countries that didnt participate today. Yugoslavia's candidate kinda looks like Kristen Stewart. Also, back in the days where every contestants got applauded. Spain and Sweden stands out for me. Wow top 12 was just so perfect choice. Everyone so beautiful and do have a class and elegance.

I think, this video should preserved by the Cultural Institution of Spain; frankly; I have seen many Ms Universe contests and Ms Amparo Munoz was and will be the most beautiful woman ever awarded with this title. Definitely. Speaking of Spain at Miss Universe, they have been robbed two times now. They should have three Miss Universe titles now: 1974, 1985, 2013. 1985 and 2013 with their gorgeous and complete 1st runner-ups. Some even feel 1999, although Miss Spain 99 was not 1st runner-up.

but i was wondering what ever happened to that "statue of maria clara" that was given to her at the end of the show? the man who gave it to her said it was "made of thousands of philippine shells." it looks like a magnifecent work of art, and something of a collectible. btw, thanks for sharing this video! i was in elementary school in the philippines living in the barrio, my family have no television, not even a radio, when this event happened in 1974. but i remember, people used to talk about miss spain and miss aruba, all the top 5. curiously, i didn't remember much about people talked of miss colombia, i just now found out she's part of top 5. without youtube i would have never seen this show at all anymore, but i'm glad that it's here, and for a moment i relived the memory, like i said when people used to talk about these beauties back in 1974. anyhow, the dancing with the fan and that instrumental bamboo segments part of the show was impressive even for that time in 1974. i think all the performers, from the young kids to the adult man and woman gave such a simple yet an elegant all-together performance that complemented the whole show and this just happened to be in the country of my birth, and i'm sure every filipinos are proud and very much appreciated, the then and now, when miss universe 1974 in the philippines was happening there. fast forward to 2014, i heard there's no miss universe this year that the miss universe corporation is holding it out for next year 2015, but i'm hoping of course that miss philippines bet m.j. lastimosa would bring in another CROWN whenever it is happening! PEACE!!!

Omg... I was six years old when the winners grazed a posh redtaurant in my hometown. I could not see them well because of the crowd. I squeezed myself through and there I saw Miss Finland. I still remember her face as if it was yesterday. Gorgeous woman indeed.
